What can I say, a beautiful accident, phoned up the owner to see if I could book a table for dinner. Unfortunately, they were closed for the night we wanted but ended up chatting too the owner Elvera for 15 minutes said goodbye. 5 minutes later received a message saying that she and her husband would open for us on the night we wanted and sending the menu so we could pick what we wanted. Anyway, I arrived and had one of the best meals I have ever had. My wife is celiac and the meal had been especially catered to her, including gluten-free canopies, first time ever. The restaurant itself is even nicer than it looks in the pictures, had a lovely relaxing meal and received great service from Elvera. Normally the restaurant is only open at the weekend so opening on a Tuesday was way above normal. Can't recommend high enough, would give 10 stars if I could.

Exceptional evening spent in the beautiful Barratt’s of Tyn Rhyl. Canapés with a G&T by the ornate fireplace, then into the dining room for a wonderful 3 course meal. Matched with a small but spectacular wine list. Highlight was the deliciously delightful chocolate creme brûlée, clearly made by a skilled chef. Fabulous evening! Thank you!

Barratt’s of Tyn Rhyl is a small boutique hotel which is a beautiful listed building with gorgeous period features. It is spotlessly clean and the food is delicious! The room we stayed in was beautiful and the bed was huge and so comfortable. We travelled from Ireland to take our son to uni in London and booked this guesthouse as a stopover on our return journey to Holyhead. Our return was delayed and we didn’t arrive until after 8pm. Elvira, the owner, was extremely accommodating - she was so busy in the restaurant (which was booked out) but still found the time to have pleasant and friendly conversation and get us set up with a fantastic supper as we were starving. During our stay at Tyn Rhyl we enjoyed several delicious meals prepared by Dave and received first class service from Elvira. After a very long journey the warm welcome and chance to relax in the lovely lounge was just what we needed. Thank you Elvira and Dave, we had a wonderful time at your lovely hotel. This is one of the best places we have ever stayed!

Went today for the first time for Sunday lunch. What a fantastic house tucked out of the way in Rhyl. We had prawn cocktail and soup to start with. Then welsh lamb and free range pork. All absolutely delicious, well cooked and plentiful. We couldn’t finish with our desserts so they kindly gave us a ‘doggy bag’ and we enjoyed the best Lemon tart I have ever tasted at home. The pastry was buttery and the lemon filling was superb. I may be using a lot of superlatives but this Sunday lunch was the best value you could ever wish to find.

Three choices of each course so we tried them all and yes they were all tasty and so well presented on the very Italian like plates and bowls . Great presentation, good sized portions (not too little, not too much) and certainly worthy of its 2018 Michelin recommendation and other accolades over the years. Certainly beats all other restaurants in Rhyl. Chef David and his wife should be congratulated for providing a first-class dining experience. The wine was also good, and very reasonably priced. Surrounded by commercial premises you could well miss this place just driving by but once through the gated driveway you can hardly believe you are in Rhyl when you see the impressive old manor house. We enjoyed a pre dinner drink and canapes in a comfortable lounge with a real fire burning in an old fireplace with fantastic wooden surround. We were equally impressed with the small dining room and it's artefacts and they had gone to the trouble of decorating the tables to reflect Valentine's Day. The dining room is very small and comfortable with only 14 covers over 5 tables but they also have dining space in a conservatory with another five tables. We opted for three courses at a fixed £40 which included the canapes and coffee, All three courses were very well presented and of good quantity and taste and I would have to point out the ham hock terrine starter as being of exceptional taste. The service throughout was very friendly and efficient which rounded things off in making a special evening.

Hidden away from the rough part of Rhyl is this beautiful hidden gem. This amazing, quaint hotel is steeped in history and lovingly preserved by the owners. We were told that it is actually the oldest building in Rhyl. We booked on a Sunday lunchtime and was pretty busy so unfortunately we were faced with quite a wait before being seated at our table. We had the 3 course Sunday lunch which was absolutely superb. The black pudding and vegetarian haggis starter was beautifully presented and tasted divine. I had the local roast Welsh lamb which was very tasty served with beautiful homemade gravy, roast potatoes, Yorkshire and mixed vegetables ( perhaps a few extra vegetables next time please). Finally I had the ikky sticky pudding which was heavenly. Overall the restaurant was beautiful, the staff were friendly, and the food was fabulous. The only reason I gave 4 and not 5 was down to long waiting times to be seated and between courses. We will certainly be back again as I'm sure the waiting was a one off, and the place is second to none.

When tasked to book "somewhere" for Sunday Lunch by our Aussie friends, Ty'n Rhyl was my first thought and boy was I right. They were suitably impressed by the building, and the gardens with the interior bringing out the cameras and many admiring comments. We had requested a late sitting due to our circumstances but did feel a little guilty when we were the only ones now to be eating. However the service was brilliant and the food to die for. This set price menu at £17 pp for 3 courses was not extensive but enough choice to suit us with each having a different main, my sirloin of local beef was suburb, probably best ever. The baked salmon was offered with an individual choice of sauce and pronounced excellent as was the slow cooked pork on apple with VERY crispy crackling. The selection of fresh veg didn't look too exciting but was more extensive than first glance and cooked to perfection and more than adequate. We had all selected the same WONDERFUL starter, sounds ordinary, melon, prawns, smoked salmon with a marie rose sauce, but ordinary it was NOT. Somebody really knows how to pick their melons! I will remember my first mouthful for a long, long time. And the deserts, well lets just say no body was disappointed, all different, all wonderful and all homemade. And you know exactly how much this veritable treat is going to cost in advance, how good is that? Bad points? just a little niggle, that with all the flowers & greenery available in the gardens, I would have expected to find a small posey or an individual real flower on the table rather than the very artificial one. Perhaps they are reserved, with linen napkins, for the more expensive evening meal which t I have yet to experience. To my mind lunchtime dinning at Ty'n Rhyl is value for money, a memorable experience in unique surroundings, Don't hesitate to book but have a care for your timing if you need the other tables to be occupied. We were ok with our own company, the quality of the food and the ambience of this 16th century building more than enough for us.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We had heard good things about Barratts so took my brother in law there for a birthday treat. Good things about the visit were the canapes, they were tasty, the starters were ok and two of the three main courses that we had. Overall, though, it was poor value for money. The greeting on arrival was lukewarm and we were left with our coats, and all evening no-one asked to take them from us so we put them on the back of our chairs in the dining room! There was a one-price fixed menu but when we said we only wanted two courses we were told we could do this and the price would be adjusted (this is offered on their website but we were not told this at the restaurant, nor were we told what the adjusted price would be). Two of the main courses (duck and lamb) were good but the sirloin steak - which had been ordered rare to medium - was too well done. And it came not as a piece of steak but cut into slices (never seen that before for steak!). It was returned and asked to be less well-cooked. This took some time and the duck and lamb were almost finished before the steak was returned - and it was at least as well-cooked as the first attempt, if not more so. We didn't complain again as it would have meant a further wait but the steak meal was not enjoyed. For the cost, this was a disappointment.

Think of Rhyl cuisine and you think of fish and chips and an ice cream on the front, and dammed good that can be. You do not think of fine dining. Well go to Barrats and be surprised. £40 for a three course set menu with a small but well chosen selection of dishes. I am always suspicious of a small restaurant with a vast menu. How much of it can be truly fresh and made to order? All courses were excellent and the presentation immaculate. The building itself is part of the charm of the place and you wait in a cosy lounge whilst waiting for your starter and then taken to through to the restaurant. Keep some of your holiday pennies to one side and treat yourself to an occasion, not just a meal, for your last night in Rhyl

Stunning Al a carte food well worth booking in advance. I've actually attended a small wedding here too and the service and customer satisfaction from the host was second to none. They accommodated the group with easy and sophistication. Each meal was perfectly presented and tasted divine.

Although we've dined at Barratt's several times, this was our first visit for quite a while. Ty'n Rhyl is tucked away and you really wouldn't think you were in Rhyl! The food was excellent and really good value at £20 a head for the Mothers' Day 3 course menu. The service wasn't the quickest, particularly from arrival to bring offered drinks, but once started was OK. Whilst the pre lunch drinks seemed quite pricey, the wine was good value. Would recommend a visit if you're looking for excellent, traditional food in an intimate setting but aren't in a rush.

Rhyl has little going for it these days. This once great seaside town, full of memories of childhood trips to the seaside, has little to offer the discerning visitor... apart from this one oasis on Vale Road - Barratt's of Ty'n Rhyl. I've known about this restaurant in a building dates back to the seventeenth century, for a long time, but just didn't get around to paying it a visit until today for sunday lunch.Acclimatisation takes a while. It's like entering a time capsule and being taken back to a time when nothing is hurried, by the husband and wife team that own and run this place. The menu is communicated in verbal fashion whilst sipping pre-lunch drinks in one of two 'historical' rooms. We were then seated for lunch in a small, but light and warm conservatory. Three superb courses made by a chef that has got the balance right between fine dining, good home cooking and giving value for money. The service was measured, gracious and effective. It probably wouldn't suit everybody because it was a bit like inviting yourself to someone's period house for a meal. For us, it was a splendid way to spend Sunday afternoon. We will certainly visit again.

I stayed here for a couple of nights in January on business and I was extremely impressed. The welcome you receive from Elvira and David. I had driven a very long way and was greeted by a lovely cup of tea and biscuits. Very comfortable bed and all the facilities you need. The breakfast was truly delicious, fresh orange juice and the yoghurt and fresh fruit was a real treat. Definitely recommend if you are staying in the area.

An amazing experience, food, service and general ambiance couldn't be beaten. Don't be put off by the location. This is an oasis in an otherwise bleak seaside town. The food in the restaurant wouldn't have been out of place in a top London restaurant. If you're thinking of staying over, the house is cosy and comforting with a breakfast the next morning that will be as good as you can get in any top London hotel. I can definitely recommend Barratt's of Tyn Rhyl to anyone visiting North Wales - it's well worth the detour.

The food at barratts is to die for! The roasts are amazing and everything is just delicious. The surroundings are beautiful. The only negative is the wait for being served but good things are worth waiting for!! And if requested for special reasons , I'm sure the more than helpful owners would cook something quickly.

This is, quite simply, the best guesthouse I have ever stayed in. I was on business and (unfortunately) only stayed one night. The house is beautiful as are the grounds, and it is the attention to detail and comfort that is so impressive in this era of Travelodges etc. From the selection of sweets, to the decanter of sherry, to the selection of teas, a cafeteria for ground coffee, quality bathroom products in the room, to the quality furnishings in the room, to the sheer peace and quiet - and that is before you get to the food. I only had the breakfast rather than an evening meal, but people come just to eat in the evening due to the justly deserved reputation of the food. The breakfast was, quite simply, the best I have ever experienced in a guest house. A puree of mango and separate Greek yogurt with almonds, selection of fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries for starters, then the full English including home made sausages, locally sourced cured bacon, fresh farm egg - what can I say apart from it put a smile on my face that lasted all day.Elvira and David are so welcoming - their reputation is justly deserved so do yourself a favour if you are in the area!

From the moment we arrived until we left, Elvira and David could not do enough to make our stay there more enjoyable. Tea and cakes were waiting for us on our arrival and we had the pleasure of experiencing an exquisite meal cooked by David an excellent trained chef who's presentation would not have been out of place in a 5 star hotel. The room was very clean, cosy and comfortable, with lovely homely touches. Barratts is situated on the outskirts of Rhyl and is an ideal base for touring North Wales.... I only wished we had booked more than one night. Thank you, we'll be back!!:)

Every year we splash out on a night out for my birthday and we always head for Chester or Llanduduno to find somewhere formal to eat. I happened to see Barratts on this site like the reviews so I checked out the website where I were impressed by the menu and 5 courses for £40 was good value so I booked a table for me and my partner and we certainly were not disappointed. The whole night was a experience from the log fire the service the lovely conservatory and especially the food it was so well prepared and presented freshly made and delicious. The owners need to put some pictures on their website for people to see how well presented the food is. We booked for eight but arrived early were greeted by Elvira at the door had a lovely evening and didn't leave until 10.45 couldn't fault it. It was a lovely night and now we don't need to travel far to get a fine dining experience. Hidden gem in the heart of Rhly.

We were here for Sunday lunch last week and what a lovely experience! Ty 'n Rhyl is a beautiful building and exudes a homely warm atmosphere as soon as you walk in. Elvira, ( the owner, together with her husband who is the chef ) gave us a warm welcome and read out the menu of the day for us which was nice as you are then not faced with too many choices on a large menu. We ate in the Conservatory which was decorated like a Winter Wonderland......gorgeous and as the afternoon darkened it was magical. The food was top class with all fresh ingredients and very tasty indeed and presented beautifully.it was all very relaxed and we felt completely at home. The Grandchildren were well catered for and they loved Hywel who waited on that day. I thoroughly recommend Barrats to anyone who wants a really good home cooked quality meal in wonderful surroundings.

We were recently on a coach trip to Portmeirion and Snowdonia, based in Rhyl. Before we went I checked Trip Advisor looking for a nice restaurant to treat my partner who was celebrating his 60th birthday that week. I chose Barratt's of Tyn Rhyl and we were both delighted by the house, the restaurant and the service. From the moment you set foot through the door, you can feel the history of the house oozing through every wooden panel and beam. It's totally charming and cosy - the oldest house in Rhyl. A real gem find in this modern age. Elvira, the owner, served us drinks and canapes with the menu in a small but beautiful olde worlde room. Supper was served in a lovely Georgian dinning room, it was very peaceful with attentive service and excellent food and wine. Interesting menu and quite expensive, but if you can afford to splash out, go for the experience. Not many places like this around North Wales, I'm sure! Reservation a must - I should imagine it's not the sort of place you'd just walk in off the street as its too special. Thank you Elvira (and husband chef) for opening up your lovely old house as a restaurant, a memorable treat

Gosh..where to start...I had come across reviews on this forum by chance and was curious to visit..so glad we did.We went as a family group of 4 and each of us agreed it was more than just a meal out.The house is just so lovely and welcoming. We sat in one of the reception rooms in high backed winged armchairs whilst deciding on our menu choice ,drinking very nice wine and cooing over delicious canapes. The feeling was of being transported to some remote stately home in the highlands. The dining room is elegant and grand without being cold with a chandelier sparkling. The food is certainly fine dining but with generous portions. My brother lives in london and has eaten in many high end restaurants and he was so impressed at the quality, value and experience. Please go and see for yourselves..it will be memorable.A big thank you to our hosts and hope to return soon.

I have stayed at the B&B a few times and have always found David and Elvira most welcoming. Having dined in the restaurant I can vouch that the food is of the highest and finest quality and surpasses a lot of the meals that I have eaten in far higher priced and acclaimed establishments. Quality of the fresh ingredients used and David's abilities as an excellent chef are reflected in the quality of the food that he produces. I can not wait until I return to North Wales and can enjoy the opportunity to dine here once more. It is definitely worth a visit if you are anywhere in the area.

As a party of 4, we celebtated my brother-in-law's retirement. On arrival at 7:30pm and after a fabulous 5 course meal with 3 bottles of fine wine, we finaly left at around 11:30pm knowing we had made the right choice. This was fine dinning at its best, having a small 'cover' the service though-out was excellent as was the setting. I would not bother with the negative reviews,'nothing special' one said, I wonder were they go then???. At a cost of £50 ea for a Saturday evening out with fine food, wine and surroundings, I believe it's worth it.

My husbnd and I stayed on our way to Holyhead. We were attracted to Barretts as it was described 'as a restaurant with three rooms'. When I made the reservation I enquired if food would be available and was told yes. All was good we thought. When we arrived we were shown our room and we asked what time Dinner was served only to be told 'there was no other reservations for dinner that evening so they were not serving food. Disappointed we asked what restaurants there were around and Elvira said there were Indian,Chinese, Italian etc all the usual. She offered tea which we gratefully accepted and when served she brought a ham sandwich 'because I feel guilty'. She also offered us shepherds pie whch they had cooked for their supper we declined. We asked what restaurant they would recommend only to be told they never eat out.. We headed off towards the seafront and town and walked and walked and only found takeaways and chippers granted of every nationality we ended up back in our room with a packed of peanuts and Pringles not the evening we had envisaged. We had originally made our reservation for two nights but the concern of whether there would be food available on the second night coupled with the news my Father had had a fall at home we decided to spend our final night nearer to Holyhead. After a nice breakfast we checked only to be charged an extra £60 for cancelling, with no apology for Dinner the previous evening not being available and knowing there was no decent restaurant in the area. Barretts is not a restaurant with rooms but rather rooms with a restaurant which may or may not be open, so be aware you are not guaranteed Dinner at this establishment.

We met friends for Sunday lunch in this wonderful atmospheric restaurant as a special treat for our wedding anniversary. And what a treat! Georgian-fronted, but Jacobean dark, carved and panelled inside the reception/sofa room behind the little red door! Beautiful Georgian dining room at the front and light airy conservatory at the back. After parking behind the restaurant and seeing David, the chef, picking herbs freshly from the garden, we were greeted warmly by Elvira. There was such a relaxed, almost family feeling about the place, with regulars arriving to hugs and kisses from the hostess! The food was fantastic. I had delicious fresh tomato soup, and my husband had an elegant tower of very arty-looking black pudding and mushy peas. He had roast pork with crackling which melted in the mouth and I had tasty, tender, local Welsh lamb! Vegetables including asparagus, cauliflower, broccoli and carrots accompanied roast potatoes and a fluffy Yorkshire pudding. Our friends opted for sea bream, salmon and scallops - with the herbs picked from the garden earlier adorning them. All beautifully presented and enticing! Desserts of poached pear on rice pudding, and chocolate tart with cream were perfect! We would definitely return and recommend wholeheartedly! Really, a very special place for a special meal. Thank you David and especially Elvira!

What a find, in Rhyl of all places. I eat in all standards of restaurants around the world. Small shacks to 3 starred £150.00 a head restaurants. The canapes were perfect, the calves liver starter a real revelation, and a main course of sea bass sitting on a salmon fishcake with scallops on spinach, was unbelievable. the sweets were also great. Maybe a little expensive but you have to pay for quality. Being able to take your own wines (corkage charged) is another plus. Will certainly visit again when I'm in the area

This is our third night eating at Barrats. It's consistently high quality service, food and surroundings. The first room is an old warm reception room, from the Jacobean period. So you instantly feel transported from Rhyl. We ate perfect canapés, had an excellently broad choice of starters and main courses. The variety ranged from a la carte steak to freshly caught sea bass. A couple who were visiting with us said they have eaten at Michelin star restaurants which dont come close to this place. So you should expect the quality of the food to approach perfect.... However the service is relaxed, friendly, non-stuffy and we brought our own wine (corkage was very reasonable). They have am excellent wine collection we just wanted to bring our own. £6 per bottle corkage was fine. The environment was great. We ate in a Georgian period dining room, reminiscent of a Jane Austen novel. On an earlier occasion we had post dinner coffee in a Cleudo-style library, which was very relaxing and really made us feel a million miles away from home....But you're not. This place is very near if you live in Rhyl, probably just a short taxi ride for most if not walking distance. I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants something special and appreciates good food. This restaurant was about £35 per head on a Saturday night but just £16 for a three course Sunday lunch. Worth every penny.

this place is so unexpected in a town like Rhyll. It is a large house filled with antiquity and the food is divine. It is £40 for a 3 course meal and is worth every penny, whilst surveying the menu and trying to decide on only one item for each course you are served with canapes which are delicious. Each course is so prettily presented that you need a camera to record the moment!! The food taste as good as it looks and you need a healthy appetite to reach the end. The meal was the highlight of our trip and if we are ever within 20 miles of it we will return. Don't miss it!!
