Barleo in West Lothian

Wow ! What can I say , gorgeous surroundings, great customer service, delicious food, n scrumptious merlot ! I have a milk intolerance, the server was accommodating offering alternatives. We shared Bruschetta to start with , my partner had tagliatelle carbonara , I had penne picante with spicy sausage. We shared rosemary n sea salted focaccia n skin on chips ....we will definitely be back ! X

First day ever in Europe/Scotland, had an early dinner here, had a pizza and tried my first peroni. Wonderful atmosphere, kind and outgoing staff, this was a great first experience across the pond for me. If I wasn’t seriously sleep deprived I would have stayed longer and tried a dessert. Wish I had more time in Linlithgow so I could go back. Highly recommend.

Felt our experience was rushed in &out in 50 mins Staters King prawns were NOT even cooked in sauce just taken out fridge & layed on sauce (4 PRAWNS) £2.50 per prawn OMG Mains Ravioli/lobster not a sniff of fish in sight. Tagliatelle /salmon both main dishes had exactly the same sauce, sorry won’t be rushing back All for £77……..NOT value for money

Visited today for the first time and it won’t be the last. Lovely restaurant, unsure why there are negative reviews about staff, the person serving us (possibly the manager) was lovely. The Parmigiana Di Melanzane was absolutely delicious. My partner also enjoyed his insalta caprese and Linguine Pescatora. Good size portions and tasty food. Under £80 for 2 courses for myself, 3 courses for my other half, a soft drink, a pint of peroni and a glass of wine is incredibly reasonable given the quality of the food. We’re already planning a return visit.

Had booked for lunch as anticipated would be busy. Was with my friend. Started with minstrone soup each and shared foccaccia mozerrella with extra cheese, awesome. The minestrone stock was rich in flavour with a good mix of vegetables. The foccaccia was perfect. To follow we had spaghetti carbonara and penne carbonara with parmesan and ground black pepper. Both were bursting with flavour. To finish off we both had tirimasu with a lovely homemade flavour. With the best of service it was an all round excellent dining experience. We will definetely return and would not hesitate to recommend bar leo to anyone.

What a treat! From the warm friendly welcome to the delicious tiramisu for afters! This is a place were you are genuinely made to feel so welcomed but all the staff and management! The menu caters for everyone and with a fab selection of specials you really aren't stuck for choice! Thankyou all for a lovely evening, we will definitely be back! :-) x

Really used to rate this place. Give down hill, without a doubt. Felt we had starter pushed on us, when they arrived the garlic bread was burnt and the hot starters barely warm. A second bottle of wine was brought and opened without anyone ordering. Totally out of order. Feels like trying too hard. Need to go back to basics and ensure you are truly listening to your customers.

Booked online several days in advance for party of 6, giving contact details as is usual. Received online confirmation. Arrived on time and entered restaurant to be told they were closed. Showed screenshot of confirmation, no apology, staff blamed me for not also ringing to confirm (in which case what's the point of an online booking system?). Rude staff taking no responsibility. Cannot recommend Barleo, will not return. However can heartily recommend the nearby 1807 restaurant bar which saved our evening.

Food lovely - unfortunately the service was the worst we have ever experienced! Never before have I still been eating my meal when the waiter has started clearing the table - and continued to clear everyone else's plates and glasses whilst I was clearly still eating. The service ruined the whole experience and whilst the food was lovely, the very rude service would make us think twice about returning.

This is a nice restaurant on Linlithgow Main Street. The decor is warm and relaxing the waiter was friendly and courteous. The menu was wide but not overly so. There was a good range of specials to choose from as well. The food portions were generous and well cooked. The meal proved to be good value for money. It’s on our return list

We visited Barleo for an evening meal with family. The restaurant features nice decor and did appear to be an authentic Italian. The food was tasty, the portion sizes were also generous. The only downside was the male member of staff who just seemed grumpy, almost giving off the vibe that he was the manager and being a ‘waiter’ shouldn’t have been part of his job role. However, we still enjoyed our meal. I would return, however, would just hope for the staff to be a bit friendlier.

Honestly, the food was quite OK. My pizza quattro staggioni was pretty tasty and my wife’s scalopinna ai funghi was also quite reasonable. Even the profiteroles proved to be a good dessert. But something essential was missing in my opinion to be able to describe our evening as a nice dining experience: the place is lacking charm, which is so typical for Italian restaurants. If you ask to switch the french fries for spaghetti, you get an extra charge. If you do this in Italy, they hang you! The pretty arrogant waitor (I would not be surprised if he’s the owner of the restaurant) pretends to be Italian, but is as fake as it can be. A macho-type of guy who has no clue his gestures and attitude have an discomforting impact on his customers. “I’m sure I will see you back later this week” is what he said when we left the restaurant. Nope, my friend, that’s not what we intend to do. Note: the waitress on the contrary was very helpful and friendly.

Good food, very good service, value for money. Friendly atmosphere throughout, good choice from the menu, well presented.

The worst restaurant I have been too. Restaurant was empty, the waiter was extremely rude, the impression he gave off was if he was having a bad day and my 4 year old got the brunt of this. I do not expect any waiter to be giving my son a row for being a child. I was absolutely horrified to experience this. Will definitely not be back nor will I recommend.

Had a lovely meal tonight. I had veal and lemon sauce. My husband had lamb. We had wine and an aubergine starter. Really lovely. I live local - why have I not been here before! Many thanks to Dino and his colleagues . We had a wonderful night. Will definitely return .

Arrived earlier than our booking time but welcomed in, no problem. Friendly, efficient service. All food very fresh, tasty and we enjoyed all our starters and mains. Nice warm and friendly atmosphere. Would highly recommend. £80, including the service charge for the three of us with one drink each.

Party of 9 went for dinner. Food was excellent but totally ruined over a spoonful of Parmesan. We asked for Parmesan and the waiter came with a small bowl and a small teaspoon. Each person got a small teaspoonful and there was about one spoonful left. I asked him to put it on my granddaughter’s pasta but he refused muttering about the cost. Our bill was over £200 yet we were refused about 20p worth of Parmesan. Very strange attitude and means we will not return

We had high expectations for this restaurant, but we were surprised with the food. First we asked for the garlic bread in a focaccia, which was absolutely delicious. The entrées, however, was a different story. We asked for the risoto and a spaghetti bolognese. The rice was way overcooked, almost as soft as mashed potatoes. the spaghetti was also overcooked and the bolognese had way more tomato sauce than ground beef. We asked for parmesan cheese and first we were told that it would be extra (unbelievable to charge por grated cheese in an italian restaurant). We ended up not being charged for the cheese, but I don't know if it was because if was free or because of the amount they added to each plate ( less than one full table spoon). The tiramisu for desert was also average, lacking the distinct flavors it should have. Most of the staff was really nice and friendly, but a few seemed overweening. Not a place I'll be keen to return.

For an Italian, worst carbonara I've ever had, actual oli in the bowl, 😳, food came far too quick for it to be fresh.
