Easily the worst fish I have experienced. God only knows what they Did to it????? They managed to turn fish into a consistency I can describe as a dehydrated mulch. They should apply for worst fish and chips in the uk. They could well win it and it may drum up some curiosity trade. AWFUL is an understatement. Oh almost forgot the young girl who served us was lovely.

Orderd fish and chips could have had a 3 corse meal for the price soggy batter freezing cold chips and I think the lady on the till needs some lessons in customers service ohh and they need to change their Facebook photos to the actual ones they serve

Disgusting Chips no fish as delivery driver late. Greasy Horrible chips Fish cake should be called leather cake. Vile.

Recently we visited the chipyard for takeaway jumbo battered sausages and chips at dinner time. When we arrived there was a short queue and there were lots of people dining in. The cafe area was very clean and there were plenty of tables including one outside. We were met by a friendly member of staff and our takeaway was prepared quickly. The food tasted great, was cooked perfectly and was value for money. There was a great menu including burgers, kebabs and all the usual chip shop favourites including pies, rissoles, fish and roast chicken. We can't wait to visit again when shopping in Bridgend, because we had plenty of chips and the sausage was good quality.

We rang before arriving to check they were open as it was bank holiday Monday and they told us they were open all day. When we arrived they told us they didn’t have anything that we wanted to order, no burgers, no kebab, no large battered sausage. They said they had been really busy which was the reason they had hardly anything in - if they had told us this on the phone when we rang we wouldn’t have bothered going! Ended up having 2 small battered sausage and chips and chicken bites and chips. There was a 40 minute wait for the chips to be cooked, yet we were the only people being served in the chip shop. Nothing looks like it does on their Facebook. Very very disappointed. Food was very bland. The only up side was that the portions of chips were big but they had no taste to them. Sausage in batter was soggy and also tasteless. Won’t waste my time going here again

Oh my gosh paid for larger fish never tried here before,no words I had a large fish finger then found hair in food!!!,think I’ll stick to my usual chippy in Bridgend!!,wish I’d read reviews before I tried!,spoke to a young lady over phone who said the fish is weighed now but I’ve never had a piece of fish that looked half eaten 😂,only couple of days before I had a lovely piece of fish cheaper and bigger!!.my fault for giving them a go!!,the fish did me laugh though!,stay away much better chip shops in Bridgend!!!

Went there with my partner as we fancied a decent chippy and my their pictures online it looked good, chips were stuck to the paper they were that full of grease, rissole was bland with no flavour whatsoever, sausage full of grease, curry sauce was way to thick, why can't you get a chip shop curry sauce from a chip shop????? Was about 8 staff there all running around like headless chickens was embarrassing to watch, one was wearing black gloves for hygiene purposes but was handling all different kinds of food and kept rubbing here gloves into her snotty nose, couldn't make this stuff up, worst place in bridgend for a fact

Food was decent unless you wanted doner kebab. I'm not sure who supplies The Chipyard with it's kebab meat but it lasts until 15 mins after opening time and then your out of luck! Went instead for a mozzarella wrap deal! In fairness staff said it would be 15 mins - no problem. As this actually provided 15 mins worth of terrific entertainment which I spent working out what 80% of the 5 staff in the building do? Whatever is going on in the back room must be entertaining as there was never less than 3 people out there at any one time. One blonde girl appeared to be doing all the work fair play to her! She had another girl with her who bless her looked permentantly confused and traced back her steps at least 17 times. There was a girl with pink hair who appeared to be the person "in charge" (quotation marks needed) who did not really appear to do much other than tell me there was no doner box available and open and close the doors on the display cabinet for no apparent reason. The joker in the pack tho appeared to be the only male in the chippy who commented at least twice that he " didn't know what he was doing" as if I couldn't work that out for myself and chat away with the delivery drivers (one who waited so long I'm sure he aged 10 years) if his arms and legs worked as well as his mouth then this would be a lot more of a slick operation. Credit to him tho 5 minutes to closing time him and one or two others finally sparked into action and managed to finalise the orders for every one waiting in the shop which was starting to resemble Tescos on a Sunday afternoon and managed to clear us all ready to lock the doors dead on 9! Food was decent tho! (When it finally came)

Bought what was supposed to be two large cod and one portion of chips. When we got home we found the fish to be small thin strips of batter with something inside that didn’t resemble cod and a box with some but not many chips inside - All for £16-50 which was a waste of money. Either the business is struggling or some one is at it but either way our advice is don’t waste your money with these rip off merchants. There are a couple of other chip shops in town that serve up decent portions at a fair price. AVOID at all costs.

Keep away absolutely no good food and customer service my mother a pensioner had fish and chips took it back said it was all batter so the staff give her fish bites as a substitute sorry not good bye the way they were the same all batter very poor staff did not offer a refund just laughed shocking avoid this place 👎

Beautiful piece of cod pity about the chips really scabby and service was unprofessional, didn't ask for chips when I ordered the fish, but they put a very small portion in the box anyway, i don't like my fish squashed in with my chips needn't have worried this time plenty of room in the box. Server didn't seem to know what she was doing 🤔. Hopefully this will improve but I will not be going back to find out.

Had the caramel chicken and chips box meal and it was amazing!!! Really can't wait to try all the other offers they have soon

Traveled to Bridgend to try this place after seeing the massive hype on social media of the food they offer. Chairs were on the tables so we took it as sitting in wasn’t available. When we got back to the car and opened our food box it was the biggest let down. Looks nothing remotely close to their social media posts and the food was tasteless, the wrap was stale, the chicken didn’t have any taste and mozzarella dippers were rubbery. We contacted their social media to complain and didn’t even get a response.

Visited three days ago after seeing posts all over social media. If someone asked me if it was worth the money, I'd 100% say no. Chips was near enough raw and the wraps that they offer should be made fresh to order, not pre-cooked then nuked in a microwave. Not every customer needs to hear every conversation the staff members have, especially about the fights that's happened on the weekend. Very unprofessional mannerism coming from numerous members of staff. The boy working loves to give off dirty looks for no apparent reason at all. They gave off the impression as though they hated their job. Very unprofessional and the manager definitely needs new staff. Will not be returning in any hurry.

Absolutely amazing, I had the tray with a layer of chips topped with a layer of kebab meat topped with loads of cheese and then it was grilled so the cheese melts all over and into it with a separate side salad, that was the nicest kebab meat I’ve had in a very long time, the foil tray is the size of a roasting tin, I think it’s meant to be for sharing but I didn’t share, good price too, definitely having that again

Rang at 615pm asking for delivery. Was told 1 hour 45 mins wait. I’d had long day in work but willing to wait as we had nothing in. Husband diabetic so he took his meds 20 mins before they were due so he managed his sugar levels. I rang at 830 (half hour late already). Was told they only had one driver and they’d be with us within the next 45 mins. Understandably I was cross. They had my money, and now looking at 3 HOUR wait for food. Told the young girl on the phone if we knew it would take 3 hours we wouldn’t have ordered. Even explained husband diabetic. No reaction. Just that everyone in same boat this evening as they only had one driver. So don’t tell us it’s going to be 1hr45 mins when it’s going to be over 3 hrs! 3 hours 25 mins later, our food arrived. Chips weren’t very hot, they should have said portions were massive because two chips were more than enough so wasted a portion of chips. Plus they got side order wrong. I appreciate every business has its bad nights. But no offer of free drinks or any conciliation for the 3hr 30 mins wait for food.Will never order from here again. Basic customer service is lacking.

I was nearby and decided to pop in and get takeaway for my family. Not had any takeaway for weeks with lockdown. OMG the fish was huge. Prob could have had one cod between 2 of us. Precautions to keep 2 mtrs away and a perspex screen. A bit more pricey than we are used to but value for money when you see portion size. Don't think I need to eat for a week. Amazing thank you

Absolutely will not be ordering from these lot again.I called up at midday to ask if they were taking orders for delivery? They said "yes". 'Yes', they are taking deliveries. So... Given that they said yes they are doing delivery, and it was obvious that I wanted my order for as soon as possible as my partner and I wanted it for our lunch, I went ahead and placed my order. "Brilliant!" I thought, "I can't wait to have my chips". Rather expensive at £23.10 for an order of two large chips, 2 cod bites, a fishcake, a pot of gravy and a pot of curry sauce. That was alarming in itself. Here is the more alarming part though.... An hour and fifty minutes passed and our order hadn't come. Presuming that they must have either gone to forage for potatoes to make up my order, or just forgot, I called to ask what was going on. "Oh we aren't delivering until three", is what I was told when I got through. This trinket of information should have been given at the beginning of the very first call, don't you think? Clearly incapable of discussing this with me, she passed me on to, I presume, her manager. He was equally as poor. "Oh we do have it all over Facebook" That's great, pal, except I didn't order through Facebook, did I? I called you! Facebook and the telephone are not the same as each other, nor are they interlinked. Also not an excuse for the incompetency of the whole place. Maybe next time someone places an order, you tell them when you are delivering! Useless.

Very popular, great chips and fish, deals for oaps, portions usually on the generous side, but as always depends who serves you. Expect to wait at busy times

Well what can I say since we have been having our Friday or weekend take away from the Chipyard the consistency has been fab. The place is clean and choice incredible with quality. The cod is gorgeous and not greasy, the cod flesh is so cooked inside the batter. The size is amazing with freshly cooked chips. The staff are so down to earth and engage well with the good mix of customers. Keep up the fab work.

This is a great fish shop that is well positioned being opposite the bus station and near the shops and pubs. The Chip Yard offers takeaway food and a sit down option serving traditional favourites such as fish, chips, pies and a range of curry options. The restaurant is a great meeting place for food or drinks, catering for all ages and offering pensioner discounts. We have eaten here many times and have never been disappointed. The portion sizes are good, the food is always tasty and fresh. The staff are friendly and the restaurant area is always immaculately clean. In my opinion I would take the negative comments with a pinch of salt.

Do not bother to order food. You will wait for at list 1 hour 45 min.

I always use this chip shop now as it’s the best in town. In fairness, there are a few good ones, but this is always my first choice now. The service is always friendly and welcoming, great bunch of girls (and the guy)!The fritters are lush, the chips are great quality and good portions. The fish is always good too, and the fish I have just eaten prompted me to write this review as it was again excellent. Big white flakes of freshly cooked fish in a thin crispy batter - just perfect.

Stunning yet again, lovely food, never fails, also huge portions, the desserts are to die for, and the staff always happy and helpful..The cafe is always full, so that says a lot, when tables are full, happy customers.Wish they were open now 5am could kill for a chippy breakfast...

Always lovely polite staff, clean premises, spotless, Food always top class, lots too, plenty on the plate, best chippy, In town, always busy, lovely desert fridge too, I love my weekly visit, hope it stays open, as Asteys closed, and The Windsor, all towns need a good chippy, The pub a few doors down, offer half price food, but it's not quality, like the chippy, real potatoes fresh food. Yummy yummy... also the lovely man, with blonde in his hair always lovely welcome xx

we always go to the chipyard normally really lovely but the last few times hot very nice. tonight it was disgusting, chips greasy horrible, the pasty had been blasted in the microwave couldn't eat it because all the pastry was hard.really disappointed.

Chip yard serving the best fish and chips in Bridgend, lovely clean shop staff are lovely. Only thing sometimes they are concentrating on the takeaways and customers are left waiting in the shop for up to half an hour

Told 1hr 45 mins for delivery, rang at 1hr45mins told another 30mins min, absolute joke, we had ordered at 5pm, there was children's meals included in the order, I would have at least expected a call to say if they had delivery issues seeing as children were waiting for food. Pure disregard for customers.

Always sparkling clean. Staff super friendly and accommodating. Eat in or takeaway. Can be busy at peak times. In the centre of town, right by the bus station and not far from the train station. Not really possible to park outside.

I ordered food through just eat and received a delivery time of 1 hour 15 minutes (which is borderline ridiculous for a chip shop). About 30 past my delivery time I received a phone call to tell me that the restaurant didn’t have any cod which again, considering it’s a fish and chip shop, is ridiculous. After amending my order and finally realising how long it had been I called back to find out how it was half an hour past my delivery time, I was told that they were busy and would be at least another half an hour. Shocking service and I will never use again. I now have to order from another restaurant and wait around an hour for food.

Popped in on the way home. Ordered fish and chips. The staff were friendly and efficient. The fish was large and the portion of chips good. Enjoyed the whole meal. Highly recommended it.

Under sized portions for price they charge. This place is very pricey, would have been better off going to pub next door where you be able to get an adult size meal and drink of choice for sane price.

I have walked past this fish & chip shop many times going into or out off Bridgend Town. On this first occasion, I decided to try its fried fish, always a good test, It was surprisingly good, with fresh, white fish flaking into mouth wateringly bite-size pieces, covered with just the right amout of crispy, flavoured batter. Cooked to order which meant I had time to scan the menu, with several permutations of chicken, fish and other options. It was also noticeable how many of the customers were enjoying the clean, warm interior as they ate their meals, before catching their buses home.

I'm gonna start by saying apart from one of two really good chippies a few miles down the road the only one local too us is absolutely rank, so when I really couldn't be bothered to cook the other day I had a look on "one delivery". The kids usually have McDonald's or burger king delivered but I really wanted "Chips" lol. When I seen the chipyard I was pleasantly surprised, and when they delivered I was ecstatic. I am not a big lover of chips got too be really in the mood and they have too be from a chip shop. It took them 40mins too deliver and it was stunning. Firstly I was chuffed as they sell Peter's steak and kidney pies as I'm fussy and only like them so great start, secondly their chips were proper not frozen real fresh homemade chips lovely, and too top it off the gravy and curry sauce was proper, real gravy not plastic(bisto lol) and the curry was thick full of flavour. My boy had a burger he enjoyed that too. Great service, great prices and top food.

We enjoyed a stunning meal of fish and chips, large portions, batter perfect not too thick and cooked properly. Curry sauce was lovely I enjoyed, staff are always pleasant and nice.

We fancied fish and chips and decided to try the Chipyard.A good choice.I was greeted warmly,my order taken,informed that there would be a 5 minute wait while the fish was cooked.All of which was fine and the end result was great fish and chips.Well done to the helpful staff.We will return.

We ordered for delivery, the food when it arrived was lovely and great value for money!! However the delivery took over an hour, in which I rang twice and the women on the phone wasn't very friendly.
