Ascona Crossgates Service Station and Cafe in Powys

We stopped here for a coffee during our day out on the bike. We both decided to have a latte, but wish we hadn’t. It was nasty!!! It was from a machine in a paper cup. The taste was awful and my partner had to top it up with milk to make it palatable. Before getting back on the bike I decided to take a toilet break. To find them you had to go through the adjoining shop and out the front door! But I shouldn’t have bothered. The men’s were out of order and a piece of paper was taped on the ladies door saying “unisex” lol. The smell of urine was very unpleasant and they could do with a good clean. The only reason I gave three stars is because there were some lovely bikes to see

Driven past lots of times, now I wish we had stopped early great staff, service brilliant, proper cafe grub , freshly cooked and large servings, we will be back again.

Turnover tasted like straight paraffin

Very convenient place to stop. Plenty of spaces for parking up and enjoying your own refreshments or use the cafe. Also has a convenience store and toilet facilities. Sadly on this visit the ladies toilets were neglected. No toilet roll no soap, messy floors. I let the men running the store know but one was too busy chatting 😕 . Strangely, on my return journey, the ladies toilets were closed and they had turned the men's toilet into mixed use! In all of the years I have stopped off here, I have never known this place to be so uncared for. 😕

Stop here to go to the toilet and have a look around the shop on the way up from southwest Wales to North East Wales via Shropshire and it was absolutely fantastic the best in central Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

I have been here on a Sunday 3 times in the last 3 months and have only managed to get food once. The other 2 visits I was told it was a 90 minute wait and the other a 45 minute wait for a sausage and egg bap!!! think this was my final visit as I usually go there on the motorbike which is about 75 mile to get there and to be told that food can be around a 90 minute wait is ridiculous. Looks like its just up the road to McDonalds in Newtown from now on.

Convenient stop with toilets, a shop and a hot drinks machine but has some weird staff.

First time stopping here and will be making it one of my regulars! Staff are lovely, so much selection and tastes amazing. Had the bacon and egg roll, it was cooked perfectly 👌 Great size portion and very good price too. 100% recommend stopping on your way through Great place to see plenty of classic cars and bikes too

Ecigs are over priced, no battery point to drop off the batteries for recycling which means either you have to just keep them and you have a draw full of flat 650mAh Lithium Ion batteries and eliquid going everywhere (not very eco friendly), could you also stock some more sandwiches as all the bread is brown bread except the breakfast sandwiches and not everyone likes brown bread which would probably explain why the shelves are rammed with sandwiches, also complains about the cafe it's been that way for years I'd say they get it locally as all the food is the same quality as the Riverside Cafe bacon's always dry and gristly, I think the best thing is the sausages, eggs are always over done and tastes bland, it's nice to support local but at the same not all local are good quality people like gristleless meat fatty yeah but not gristly, people like runny yoke, people don't like over cooked food so maybe it is the staff I don't know I stopped going years ago as it's that bad I think what does it for people is the bikes not the actual service, could you also remove the flag by the door at night or turn down the sensitivity of the alarm system as that goes off often and it's normally around midnight can go on into the early morning even if you do turn it off or it eventually stops itself it them goes off again and I'd say it's the flag thing that smacks against the alarm on windy nights

Lovely welcome, service and food.

Long queue for lunch, not a problem but when I got to till they said no more meals. No warning!! I asked if there was a set time to stop meals , was told no its when staff decide. I wouldn't mind but it was 12.15. I would have thought this was an average lunchtime. Have called here for many years but never again

Great place everything you could need. The cafe was awesome, the best breakfast I've had and great value.

Staff are friendly. Plenty of parking. Toilets are OK, although they had run out of toilet roll in the working toilets in the ladies. Coffee wasn't hot from the machine, but I'm guessing that's not their fault. Lots of choice for snacks, some good offers there too.

Great shop, but as a father travelling through with young children, the toilets are absolutely awful. Outdated and dirty. Such as shame, because I’d like to leave 5 stars, as the staff and shop itself are really good. Very friendly staff, always polite and helpful, so I have no gripes there, however the toilet is a huge letdown and I always hope that neither my son or daughter(especially) need the loo! A wonderful, modern shop but battered and filthy toilets!? I can appreciate a toilet doesn’t bring revenue, but considering how many must pass your service station when travelling, I can’t imagine a small fee charged for using the toilet would take long to recoup refurb costs and help maintain them. Sorry for the 2 stars, but in all my years of using this service station and considering the shop refit, it needed highlighting.

Cafe was ace. Lovely fry up! Fuel was cheap. Shop team also very friendly & loads of variety in the shop.

Love this place. We always stop here on a Sunday morning on our way into the Elan Valley. Have done for years. Never had any problems here. Food is always very good, at a reasonable price. They even cater for gluten free diets. You're guaranteed a decent brew, along with a peaceful few mins sit down. We will always continue to facture this place in to our family outings this way. Fantastic little service station with everything you could possibly need.

Downhill fast since the facelift. Looks flashy but service is poor. The slowest garage in Wales, as a result the queue is usually large which also causes the forecourt to clog up as fuel customers are not processed fast enough. The numbers on the pumps don't match the numbers printed above them. The card readers in the shop are so old and battered that they often don't work properly. Staff routinely turn their backs on queuing customers presumably to do more important things. Which is another reason they fail to process customers fast enough, and is really rude in the process.

We stopped off on our bikes, loads of parking spaces. Mate had mega breakfast, i had the breakfast baguette, both very nice not at all greasy or grisly. Will visit again if we ride that way again.

Great cafe! Turned up randomly at 7.45 on a chilly Sunday morning, even tho the cafe wasn't open the lady inside got me and my friend a well needed brew! We stayed until opening time for breakfast and the food was delicious! Will definitely be back.

I called in today for lunch, but wasn't the best fried eggs were overcooked, one had no yoke. Sausages were cheap, very disappointed as usually food is very good.

I used to come here with my parents in the late 80’s very early 90’s to do that Sunday Market which was held just up from the pumps. I was last up this way in 2014 so I swung in for 10 mins for memories sake… in all these years it’s hardly changed at all. Handy facilities for bikers, used to love looking at all the bikes!!

Stopped here for breakfast, can't say enough good things about it. The food was fantastic and well worth the money.

Great stop for fuel food, logs and loo. Loo pretty basic though. Cafe great for breakfasts and drinks. Shop very well stocked. Huge car park, free for 2 hours. Steps and ramp to shops, but step up into shop. However shop can also be accessed via Cafe.

Love this place great to stop and stretch the legs. Food is good staff friendly and helpful to. The shop is well stocked and when you have been traveling for hours it's nice to get a hot drink and snack. The restaurant sells lovely food we like the breakfast. The toilets are also clean and tidy to. So even if you don't need the shop or restaurant the loos are there for a pit stop

Well it's a petrol station, but it's also got a big shop, a café, a launderette, a car wash, and toilets.

Rode past here many times but eventually dropped in for an all day breakfast. Don’t expect anything too special as it’s just a typical greasy spoon with the food being just OK. Too many visits may result in some kind of coronary issue.. maybe.

Crossgates service station is always the place for us to stop when we have a ride out on the motorbike. There are normally many other bikers with the same idea. It is a great meeting point. The food and service in the cafe is always good. And of course you can fill up with food and fuel.

Not bad for a petrol station. The cafe has great food but it isnt cheap
