Angelo's Bistro in Amber Valley

Lovely place. My sons took me for Mother's Day. I was slightly disappointed with my meal. The risotto wasn't very creamy and had to leave half of it, as I struggled to swallow as it was quite thick. The dessert pastry I thought was sponge as quite spongy. But it all tasted nice, the starter I had (bruschetta) was to die for. Definitely will go again

Came here in November 2023, once for an evening meal with friends and once for a Sunday lunch with family, on both occasions had wonderful food and experienced great customer service, fairly priced, great beers and wines on offer as linked to a pub, can't fault it, a must go to place to chill out and eat, highly recommended.

Poor service and hospitality expensive think food had been microwaved tough fish unedible mother suffered food poisoning since eating Calamari who is 84. No frills like cafe in a Sports Bar Uncomfortable chairs one place setting missing had to add a chair cramped to the edge of the table. Appalling was a family celebration for an engagement. 😭

Nice pub with good beer and friendly staff

I've been going here for years, and it's a go-to as you know you're getting good food! The restaurant, when full, can be slightly noisy, but I guess that's down to the high ceiling. It doesn't bother me so much, but may others, if sensitive to noise. Lots of choice on the menu to cater for freshly cooked and full of flavour. The front is the bar area and on the weekend expect that to be busy, it doesn't hinder the wait time too much on service though. To the back is the restaurant, so you're away from the social drinking side. Lovely place, clean, nice and a really friendly welcoming atmosphere 👍🏻

Food was lovely, service reasonable. No parking really so had to use the railway station car park. Price ok. Cauliflower cheese was rock solid. Alright apart from that

The food is to kill or die for, possibly both. Started off with just some bread, balsamic vinegar and pesto... the pesto was spot on. I've had the Tagliatelle Ragu, my girlfriend had the Angelo Ragu, if I could, I'd eat both, and then another one, but the portions are big enough to fill you up. Pair it with some red italian wine- couldnt go wrong. Didn't stop us from having desert, which was just fabulous. I had the Affogato, girlfriend the brownie... what a finish to the beautiful dinner. The staff were absolutely perfect, friendly and accomodating. Made sure to ask us if food was ok- which it wasnt ok; it was absolutely brilliant. Anyway; I hope Angelos will be around for many years to come as we'll be back more frequently.

Amazing hen do meal, really made it a special evening. Shelley was so amazing in helping with last minute changes to the room, very accommodating and helpful. The food is absolutely unbelievable, so tasty. Staff so attentive and friendly. Couldn’t have had a better time. Thank you!

Had a really lovely time here last Sunday. Was great that you could order off the a la carte as well as the Sunday lunch menu so there was something for everyone. All our food was delicious - freshly cooked and the courses nicely spaced out. Really nice atmosphere. We will definitely be back.

I visited Angelo’s Bistro for my Mum’s Birthday and we opted for the bottomless brunch - the food was absolutely delicious as were the cocktails! I would 100% recommend this for a lovely occasion and have already suggested it to some friends of mine as a place to visit. The service was great and just such a lovely atmosphere! Went on saturday evening with my boyfriend, I ordered the lasagna and he got the beef ragu. Portion sizes are always really generous and food was lovely as always. Definitely one of my favourite restaurants, would highly recommend.

Visited Angelo’s between Xmas and New Year for a family meal and all I can say is ‘wow’ 👌🏻 The food was amazing (my steak was as good as I’ve had) and the service team were quick, polite and attentive… We will definitely be visiting again!

We ate here to celebrate my birthday. We’ve been a number of times before and always really enjoy it. The food was fresh and the service as always was second to none. A lovely place with delicious food and great spot for drinks after too

I've been here a few times and sadly never had a very good experience. The staff are always lovely but service can be very slow. The prices are really very high for a neighbourhood restaurant and the quality isn't there to justify it - nearing £20 for a pasta dish is crazy considering many of the dishes feel like something you could make yourself at home. My biggest issue, though, is that the atmosphere is not very nice. The adjoining pub (which you walk through to enter the restaurant and share the toilets with) feels more like a nightclub with loud music and very drunk patrons. That sounds like a very miserable thing to say but it's not the best environment for a civilised meal and not very family friendly. Our table was booked for 8pm on a Saturday night but our food wasn't served until past 9pm - so perhaps it's not like that all the time. I don't like leaving negative reviews but I hope this is constructive.

Loud restaurant with bland food. We are pasta and for the price (around £17 per meal) we expected much better. Heavily loaded with pasta that we were sure came out of a packet, boring bland sauce with very little meat or fish. An extremely disappointing experience. We won’t be back.

What a blxxdy din! Tabe booked for 6pm but the place was already buzzing with every seat taken and a cacophony of noise so loud it was difficult to talk to even the person next to you. We had arrived 15 mins before our other guests and l had all on not just getting up and walking out. Maybe you like these places with an "atmosphere" but l don't. I was persuaded to stay and thankfully the food was good and service quick and attentive but l couldn't wait to escape the echoing noise.

We came to Angelos on Friday as a party of 5 and all I can say is wow. We arrived early and had a drink in the Kings Head first. It was buzzing and a great atmosphere. We were greeted warmly by Angelo and his staff and both the food and service were 1st class. We'll definitely be back soon.

I went in a night out and Christmas meal. The food was wonderful. Very busy a d noisy at times. Parking isn't easy but we found a street parking space.

An honest review, we dined last night for my birthday and were really disappointed by quality of food. Starters - calamari was extremely chewy - not fresh and the size of the squid rings size & taste resembled fishy rubber bands. The batter was very poor also. My king size prawns were served in a chilli & garlic “sauce” that was more like a broth & was so hot it was obviously microwaved. Steak. My partner ordered a 7oz fillet steak than was so thin it looked more like a minute streak, asked to be cooked medium rare - steak was medium to well done- no pink in sight. Paying £30.00 for a streak we expected much better than what we were served, plate was filled with huge amount of chips that was unnecessary. My steak luckily was cooked correctly however the quality of steak was poor & chewy with lots of fat that shouldn’t have been of the cut of steak I ordered. We were never asked if everything was alright during our meal so didn’t have chance to change steak & raise our disappointment. Won’t be returning.

Great pub in Duffield. Real ale I can recommend the Bass is brilliant. Had a few meals here in the past and all good there. We tried a “bottomless lunch” which included starter, main and included 2 hours free bar. Staff nice and polite. Well recommended 👍

We've been coming to angeloes for a few years now , and the food has always been lovely but not sure we'll be visiting much in the future. 1st of all the food is nowhere near as good as it used to be but the prices have gone ridiculous , £9 for mushrooms in a tasteless sauce & the fillet medallions in brandy sauce has gone up £7 , I get everything has gone up in price but im afraid the standard at angeloes hasn't.

Absolutely love it. We came for a team work meal on a Thursday night got a discount for ordering before 6ish and the food quality and taste was amazing!! Everyone really enjoyed their meals. It was warm and cosy with a lovely subdued atmosphere. The bar area looked very welcoming too. Thank you for having us 😊

Average food, not bad looking restaurant

I found this place dismal. Having dined at Angelos when in Milford and hearing good things about this place in Duffield I was expecting good things. Unfortunately not, the pub/restaurant smells like a toilet, the music was so loud I could barely hear my friends at the table, people smoking outside was blowing straight in to where we where sat and to top it off the food was awful. The lasagne was just a microwaved lasagne heated up until it splatted the bowl it was served up in, stuck on a wooden board and served up. No accompanying sides like salads, veg, chips etc. A really dismal meal which lacked any care or thought. The staff were friendly and the food was served in good time but I will definitely be avoid this place in the future.

A lovely Italian restaurant attached to a busy vibrant pub. The food is excellent & traditionally Italian. If you want Italian foodd cooked very well this is the place to come in this part of the country. A little pricey but then everywhere is at the moment for this stereotypical Yorkshireman.

Wonderful food and good service, I had the Burrata for starter and the signature Tagliatelle Angelo as a main, generous portions. Restaurant a tad noisy and it wasn't that clear how to get into it at first, but a great place!

This is one of many visits to Angelo's Bistro, we sat in the bar/dining area. We had an amazing meal for starters the vegetarian Board for two with a lovely variety of vegetarian treats including the best Bruschetta and Halloumi Fries, for my main I had the vegetarian pasta which is quite enough on its own but I did have fries, great value for money. The staff were lovely and friendly, the atmosphere was excellent all in all a lovely night out. I would definitely recommend Angelo's Bistro at the Kings Head, Duffield.

This is a nice place with a good atmosphere, if not a little loud for me. Starters were delightful I had the calamari - absolutely delicious. But the main was a disappointment. I ordered the linguine marinara, it promised salmon, cod and king prawns in a light tomato and garlic sauce. The reality was different, I had no sauce, 2 prawns and what can only be described as a few flakes of fish. It was an expensive bowl of pasta. That's a shame. I think whoever is checking what comes out on the pass needs to check a little harder.

Nice place, nice enough food. However, for the price you pay,you’d expect more. Got passed our drinks by a man in flip flops and a rugby shirt who was boozing in the pub next door. Service was haphazard but genuine.

Have been to Angelo's twice recently, once with friends & last week with my partner. The Pluses. 1. Biggest plus is the service. The staff, young, but with an excellent 20+ supervisor, were all trying to give their best & were friendly. 2. Excellent sorbet - very good value for money. 3. The room, large, provides a positive atmosphere for the diners. The Minuses 1. The prices are an absolute micky-take. I don't care how good the quality, in a bistro, nearly mid-teens to almost 20 quid for a plate of pasta is simply unacceptable. It's not only Angelo's where the prices are high, but even so. I wouldn't revisit because of this. 2. The food isn't that great in terms of quality. I had to send back a main course where the meat was dry (left on the pass for too long? Simply overcooked?). The serving of vegetables was barely a child-sized portion. On another occasion a side of potatoes, supposedly flavoured w/ garlic, were seriously under-flavoured. Antipasti olives were of below-average quality. A starter of meat balls were only adequate: again under-flavoured. It's not difficult to do better in your own kitchen. At nearly a tenner, this is just not good enough. Similar w/ a prawn starter that was more than 10: sauce not unpleasant, 4/5 king prawns doesn't make you think of coming back. Overall, though a pleasant place to dine, the food was disappointing, the prices simply barmy when set against quality. The prices are a typical Derbyshire problem. Look at a range of pub-dining menus in the county & you get the same problem: high prices & a distinct lack of price competition.

We went as a table of 3 for a family birthday. We had the bottomless lunch. The food was excellent! Tasty, piping hot, authentic with so much favour. The staff were great in ensuring our glasses were topped up as a part of the bottomless brunch. So they did not hold back on the drinks which was great. One member of staff had picked up on it being a birthday and surprised is with a birthday board. Great place and I'd highly recommended you give it ago!

My risotto Angelo was a real disappointment. It was like rice in cream with very little flavour. It was really rich but totally flavourless.

Food was quite good but it was unbelievably noisy. We had to shout to hear each other. It’s definitely not a relaxing dining experience.

Lovely venue, nice and friendly staff and good service. We were here for a birthday celebration and all had pasta based dishes. There are a couple of alternative dishes available. The food was good, and prices average for that type of establishment. Buying drinks seems expensive, but perhaps that's the sign of the times and these places need to make a profit. My only criticism was the level of noise, which on a Saturday evening was probably normal, but to me, it was very uncomfortable and extremely loud. It's not the place to go for a relaxing, peaceful meal, but if you enjoy a lively, exuberant atmosphere, book a table.

A friend & I visited here for Sunday lunch today. I wish I’d been able to speak to Angelo himself to congratulate him & his wife on a superb experience. We had a table for 2 up in the corner which was quiet & discreet. Service was quick and we had starters from the Italian menu - the bread & pesto dip were delicious. & THEN the Sunday roast arrived 😮 wow! It was out of this world, the beef melted in your mouth and the whole meal was a very generous portion. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
