Anexo in East Hertfordshire

Came here one Friday night with a friend. I'd previously been to Anexo before it had moved location and had a great experience so had high hopes when bringing my friend along to the new location. Staff were friendly and it was clean and comfortable. Unfortunately a number of the wines were not available but we chose from the selection they had. Food was nice, some bits better than others. Maybe not as higher standards as I remember from the restaurant but it's still early days with the move and maybe still having some teething issues. Would still come back and have lots more plates to try on the menu.

I gave this 4 stars mainly for the service received. The staff were lovely and knowledgeable. The food was delicious. The only downside was my husband ordered whitebait and the portion was tiny. I know this is tapas and portions are small but compared to the rest of the dishes the whitebait was way to small.

Absolutely lovely restaurant with really attentive staff and great knowledge on the menu. We went on a Saturday night and the mood was. Pretty chilled and the music. Traditional. The Tapas dishes were all really good and honestly I could not be critical of any of them. The only thing that I would say is that they felt it necessary to charge £18 for just two, count them two, scallops. Such a strange decision by what we understand to be by the chefs

Another lovely evening at Anexo. Delicious fresh food with excellent wine . Too too - sit downstairs at the bar . The lighting and ambience is great .

Really good quality food at a quiet lunchtime. We shared 6 dishes between two of us, some lovely flavours, good service, and we will be going again

The concept of this place, especially downstairs is really good, the counter dining option is definitely the way to go. Menu and wine both had a good selection. Food however was mediocre at best, I couldn’t recommend any of the dishes that we had and more importantly they didn’t taste anything remotely like Spanish cuisine. Nowhere to hang coats so you either put them on the floor, sit on them or was told to “put them on the high chairs by the toilet”…hmm. The whole experience was 45 minutes, including desert, i understand the concept of tapas, but this was way to fast. I think this place has potential, but it needs to get the basics right…namely the food

We went back to Anexo in Hertford for the second time for my birthday last night and had a really lovely dinner downstairs in the tapas bar area where it is for me personally the best ambiance. We had chorizo, jamón croquetas, pork belly, manchego and a few more dishes it was all delicious as always we had a really great time!!

So arrived not expecting much as I’d had mixed reviews from friends who had dined previously. 5 blokes out for a meal (as our respective halves were away for the weekend) all super hungry and thirsty! From the moment we arrived I just knew we were going to have a great experience…I was not disappointed. We had a very engaging and bubbly waitress called Izzie..she was brilliant..particularly as she laughed at my lame jokes! She guided us through the menu explaining the format and suggested we order a minimum of 3 plates of food per person - so circa 15 plates. We ordered 22 plates. The manager who was also brilliant came to the table and suggested we had probably ordered too much food and didn’t want to see us send food back. We were all impressed by this. As it happened we stuck with our choices and scoffed the lot with room for pudding! The menu is not extensive but sufficient to provide a good choice of options along with the specials board. Food came out quickly as one would expect with tapas and without exception was very good. My particular favourites was the mussels,jamon and mushroom croquettes along with the stuffed courgette flower. The food was fantastic. We had both white and red house wines which were very quaffable. In summary..very good food along with lovely staff. Will definitely be back with my partner as she will love it. Well done to all concerned

Menu is short but that’s an asset in our opinion, with a healthy specials board. Staff are so friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Food is wonderful. Modern tapas with a twist and the setting is intimate whilst a healthy bustling environment. We will be back again!

Awful … I hate having to write negative reviews but I hope the management see this. I have been here once before and it was perfect , service , food all awesome. I was there Friday 9th with 2 friends , the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. Started off well enough , seated .. drinks .. food order but .. it’s a tapas so you don’t get all that you have ordered at the same time. First course .. arrives …10 minutes later another course the. 1 hour later we are asking for our food and a drinks order. During that hour we asked 2 times where is the Angus steak and chicken ? Given the wait we thought it must be something spectacular but … I hour later 5 slices of steak arrived £14 quid , about the amount you could adequately fit in a small sandwich. The food was “ok” nothing like I had the last time , but it was over priced , and whilst the servers were lovely .. one hour wait for a spit of steak ? So , will I go back ? No chance .. we left there starving and £150 quid down so as I said , I hope the management see this and get it together.

Saw the mixed reviews so was a bit apprehensive at trying the restaurant out given the amount of excellent alternatives in the area. However in my experience I only have mainly good things to say about our visit. The dishes were tasty, a good service and the restaurant has a nice ambiance. Prices are competitive for the area. I think a couple of the dishes could have been larger but all in all an excellent place to enjoy a meal out.

Disappointing, my third visit and I doubt I will return. Lady who showed us to our table asked us before we had even sat on our seats, still or sparkling. Hello, wait until we have sat down please and thanks but we will have tap water. I think it’s very expensive, as an example, we asked for two prawn dishes, although tasty, were way too pricy. Only one plate came out and at the end we said we only had one plate, and they said they had put them on one plate, my gripe is £22 for a plate of prawns!! Outrageous. The potato bravas were very dry and slightly over cooked. The rest was reasonable. A nice atmosphere but feel let down by the food.

We heard such a lot of good reports of this restaurant and decided to give it a try. However, we didn't think it lived up to the rave reviews we had heard. The service was satisfactory, the food OK but it's extremely noisy, the lighting is much too bright and there's general hubbub which we don't like whilst having dinner.

Love the bar downstairs, tapas is excellent and service spot on. Worth a visit. Kilian is a superb host, he always makes you feel important.

Ordered tapas, food was loaded with salt even the mashed potato being very expensive for what it is. Mr Tanaka is better. Staff even know their food is dry.

First time and very impressed. Service was great and the food was delicious. Live music downstairs was a great way to finish the evening.

Has potential but a few things would put me off returning. If you end up downstairs it's a very different vibe to being sat upstairs so brace yourself for that. Service was good by the guy behind the circular bar, one of the waitresses was pretty rude to the guy as she didn't know who ordered what and found it unprofessional she just dumped him with it all vocally. The food..well the menu sounds fab but a few things weren't executed well. The smokey break was fab so would defo recommend that. The crab not so good. It is supposed to be presented on a crostini type bread but good grief this was like a piece of brick we could not cut with a knife let alone chew it. It was inedible I'm afraid. The crab itself was OK and would be better on a blini I think so just a little adjustment. The potatoes were OK, the belly pork OK but quite small, the short rib was very nice and a good portion, the octopus was OK but small. Mussels were nice and the sauce the mussels were in was very delicious to dip bread into. The scallops...well for 8 pounds per scallop I was expecting something amazing..plump, juicy, large...they were average. Extremely expensive for the size I'm afraid. I'd expect 2 for 8 quid as id get 3 in london for 12 quid as a starter. There is definitely potential but it needs some menu refinement. Maybe a nice squid ink rice, or paella ..can't remember if they were on menu but needs to.come down in price or won't survive. Might give it another chance in future but not rushing....

First time visiting and we were very impressed! We were offered to taste the house white which was lovely considering it was the cheapest bottle! We ordered the bread with oils … which as bread goes I have never had a smoked bread before! It was bloody delicious! The peppers, seasoned and moist! So far so good! We then ordered the prawns, again swimming in garlic which in my mind is heaven! Cooked to perfection and severed beautifully. (they were that good we ordered them twice) Potato bravas, lovely and crisp! Along with the chicken skewers and steak. Both meats cooked lovely and seasoned well. (The steak sauce could be better as chimichuri goes, however not the end of the world) I wish we could of eaten more as I would of loved to try the beef rib and meatballs but we were both so stuffed! Great service, lovely food and even better price when the bill game! Happy lady! Will 100% be returning back to this lovely tapas restaurant

Service as always lovely and friendly, good selection of Tapas, there’s always a few extra options on the specials board. Have been here numerous times since it opened have tried croquettes, tortilla, meatballs, prawns, crab, pan con tomato, all tasty. Would recommend

What a fabulous find! The venue, food, wine and service was absolutely wonderful. A hidden gem and one we will return to in the hope of sampling the cauliflower. I’m rarely inspired to leave a review but this place really deserves a shout out. Fantastic!
