Great service with a very friendly staff!

Beautiful latte and staff were so lovely. The barista (charlotte) was so pleasant and made my day! The owner Al was lovely too. Great experience all round and recommend this spot for everyone

Well made, tasty coffee prepared by a very pleasant member of staff. There are plenty of picnic benches in the immediate vicinity of the café too. The building itself also blends nicely into the environment, which was nice to see.

Amazing little place in a stunning location, lovely coffee and choice of teas as well. Loved the fact it was very dog friendly with free dog treats and water bowls, really adds something special to just a walk at Mussenden Temple. Will definitely be back again a time we are in the area.

Very good coffee, they also have almond milk and ice cold coffee. Nice spot to stop and take your coffee with you while exploring the temple. For food they only have a limited amount of sweets (chocolate bars...)

Al's is a the best coffee hut on the North Coast. The coffee is freshly made & roasted by Al. The cakes & buns are delicious and the added thought of water bowls and treats for customers dogs is genius. Al also uses nothing but recyclable/compostable cups & paper which is great to see. He's provided seating that's both intimate & informal to make the whole experience a joy. No wonder people keep coming back for more.

Dropped in for coffee on the basis of so many positive reviews but really disappointed, firstly the positives, the girls who served us were very friendly and polite. The ginger cake was really good but this is a coffee outlet and the coffee was dire, more hot water than anything that resembled coffee . Real shame because the wee shack is quaint and has nice seating. Really disappointed in the coffee.

Staying at Roepark , so we love calling into Als coffee. He’s always glad to see you and the cappuccino is gorgeous I also had an almond pastry so delicious! So while out for a drive to downhill call to big als for you refreshments!

What an experience callin into Al's coffee. The craic is 90 and the coffee and treats are 2nd to none!!! No trip to this part of the country is complete without a visit to Al's..... ☕🍮.

Pulled into the car park realising it was after closing time. Stopped to get my bearings (on a road trip) and to reset Google Maps for my next port of call. All I got was a gulder (if you’re local you’ll know what that is) of an aggressive Scottish accent shouting at me ‘We’re Closed, We’re Closed’ and stared me out. Kind of shocked and horrified 😟 I left not knowing what direction to go in.

Just came across Al’s coffee for the first time and oh what a treat. Lovely little spot at Lion’s Gate with great coffee and treats!!! A must stop if you’re in the area 😎

Great coffee shop in the carpark of Downhill Demesne. The staff are very jolly and their laughter does your heart good. It's dog friendly and there's plenty of outdoor seating close by.

If you are looking for consistently excellent coffee with a professional and friendly service then Al's Coffee is the place for you. An idyllic setting at Downhill Demesne where you can also enjoy the gardens and cliff walks at your own leisure. In my opinion Al's coffee is the best coffee I have ever tasted. He also has a wide range of wee treats on sale each day. I love the friendly and relaxed atmosphere, the fun, the banter, it’s my happy place. Al and his staff are always very welcoming and friendly. A place I would highly recommend to visit. Al is amazing and so is his coffee. Thanks Al.

Fantastic coffee, people and service!

My family and I feel really lucky to be able to visit Al’s Coffee Bar regularly, especially in times of Covid 19. It is set in a great location and has almost become a bit of a safe haven for us at the end of our daily exercise. It has an open air queuing system with distanced markers, hand sanitiser stations and they even sanitise money so it’s safe for their customers too (which has been great for my vulnerable mother who only works with cash!). It’s so nice to know when we are out on our walks that there is always a friendly welcome from all the staff and a fab cup of coffee. I can honestly say that Al’s coffee is so tasty and I look forward to it on every visit. Al’s also uses 100% biodegradable cups which is so great to see and I have even witnessed staff out with litter pickers doing their bit for the environment and keeping our local area clean and tidy. In times like these I do believe that Al’s has been great for everyone’s mental health providing a little bit of normality in crazy times. Keep up the fantastic work you are all doing and thank you 👏👏.

I am at Al’s a couple of times each week. The coffee is in my opinion the best in the Northwest, by miles. The cakes and pastries are fantastic. Al and his two assistants are the most welcoming, warm, friendly people you could meet. In my humble opinion the care they take with service, looking after people and keeping the place in pristine shape is exceptional. The world would be a better place if more people were like Al and his crew. I commend them to all.

We visit Al’s coffee on a regular basis. After a walk along Downhill beach we drive up to the Mussenden Temple and have a cup of the best coffee around. Always greeted with a friendly smile and a bit of banter from the man himself and always engaged by the friendliest staff anywhere. This is a treasure of a place and adds to the quality and atmosphere of an already special place. We are never disappointed. Even in bad weather the welcome would warm your heart. Simply a must if you’re in the area.

This is our favourite spot to go on a Sunday morning. Amazing staff, coffee and treats, and the setting is perfect (even in the rain!) The whole set-up works so well regarding the current rules. The queue is marked and distanced and hand sanitising stations. Thanks guys. See you again next week!

Discovered this hidden treasure during lockdown. Excellent coffee and tempting treats. Al and his staff are very friendly and welcoming to everyone. The place is very clean and tidy. Visited Al’s Coffee on New Year’s Day. A very welcoming and cool establishment. The coffee and tray bakes are excellent, such a welcome change from the likes of Costa, Caffè Nero etc. Also, their efforts to make both staff and customers safe during Covid-19 should be applauded, i.e. social distancing enforced and lots of hand sanitiser available. The views aren’t bad up there either :) Well worth a visit.

Like most people have said already, Al himself is what makes this place a standout in an area that seems to have the most cafes per capita in Western Europe! He is such a friendly, personable chap which explains his loyal clientele. Coffee is excellent, the cups and lids are plastic free and fully compostable which is a truly great thing and the cakes (made by a friend of Al's) are superb. There are NT maintained, fully accessible toilets and some picnic benches within the walled gardens too.

We love Al's for every reason. Amazing coffee, incredible customer service, the walks and views ... it truly is the best little spot on the north coast. Al makes all of his customers, be it their first time or their daily spot, feel like a friend. Dogs, kids, and people of all ages welcome. Also, in the currently climate of COVID-19, it feels a very clean and safe alternative to sitting inside among others ... and Al hands out hot water bottles on particularly cold days :)

From a tourists point of view! Everytime we are over in Northern Ireland this is our morning go to. I can say that during covid Al has put all measures in place, ensuring only one party at time in the ordering area and others queue outside. We have been there early this time and have seen everything being disinfected and wiped down. Al has hand santizer that I see him using regular between customers and using appropriate utensils to handle food. Als coffee is the best, ethically sourced and right down to the cups being fully recycable, it's definatley a business I will continue to support during my visits. Great place to start and end your walk. Als always happy and never forgets a face, it's a pleasure to support such a cracking man!

Not only is the coffee at Al's absolutely delicious, or the scenery spectacular, but Al himself is the friendliest, most kind-hearted man (who thoroughly cares about his coffee!) and you could not find a more joyful or warm welcome anywhere on the North Coast than at Al's coffee. I could not recommend this establishment highly enough!

So had reason to take 10 visitors from Moldova to this little gem of a coffee stop. The fabulous coffee is matched only by the owners friendly thoroughly decent attitude. Welcoming, helpful, informative and generally all round likeable Al is the jewel in the crown of this amazing location. He promoted the location and how best to enjoy it and spoke highly of the Trust and it’s staff without once seeking to line his pockets by promoting his coffee. Tour completed we then sampled his brews and oh my oh my, what a cracking coffee this one man brewing machine serves up. As a Bangorian I would even contemplate traveling this far for another taste of that caffeine heaven. So in a nutshell - fab coffee served with a welcomed sprinkle of Scottish wit at a location that would be hard matched anywhere in this wee country of ours.

This is a national trust site. We had a stroll around the extensive grounds. Had a good cup of coffee on Al's coffee. A private concern within the trust site. The various building were well signed and in good order. Great views as well.

A historical masterpiece. A great stop if you're up for a walk.
