I popped into overends today with my three little ones for a snack or ice cream… I got my drinks, popcorns and ice cream tub for the little ones, and ordered a sausage roll take away for myself. Paid up and a moment later was told that there were no sausage rolls available despite being advertised on the board. Having already paid and not wanting to awkward I looked for something around the same price and ordered a cheese toastie. Five mins later, cheese toastie arrived in paper box. I looked in the box and thought I was seeing things. A toastie no bigger than my hand, bread no thicker that slices pan. Not even buttered on the outside for the usual toastie look. €7.50!!!!! In fairness to the manager her gave me my money back but could make no comment on the price as he doesn’t make the prices, gave me my money back. I have always loved going to iverends after a trip to airfield but I certainly will not ever be returning….

Overpriced, disappointing food and slow service. We had a quiche and 2 salads(16.80) salads were soggy and slimy like they had been prepared many hours ahead. We also had soup (9.50) which wasn’t hot, a ham & cheese toastie (7.50) which came out of a Tupperware box, not freshly made and poor quality, would have made better at home. My companion asked for it to be well toasted but it was still white on the plate. Very bad value for money. I won’t be back.

Ordered the vegan option for lunch (can't remember the name) , it cost 15.95 and consisted of 1 slice of soggy bread topped with beans which were hard and flavourless plus 2 slices of cucumber. I wish I'd taken a picture. It's only when I got home I realised how much as was charged. Won't be going back.

Overpriced poor quality food. €8 for a kids ham and cheese toasty, which was warm bread not toasted, and rubber ham. Sandwhich was laced in butter €7.50 for a sausage roll, yes that’s €7.50 with no sides. €8.90 for a sandwich of the day which was tiny, and of poor quality. You get much better in any deli for half the price, and €4.80 to add on some chips which were decent. Overall very disappointing given the look and feel of the place

I’m a member in Airfield and there is an agreed contract of 10% discount on food for members. I’ve availed of this discount on many occasions with no problems at all. I add the discount to my bill as a tip for the staff. Today however I was there with family and when I produced my card as usual the waiter said ‘no discount, only on hot food’ Also he was very gruff and rude. I asked had the conditions of membership changed as I had received no notice of it ? he curtly replied ‘yes changed’. I said I would have to check it myself. He threw his hands up and roughly said ‘yeh go ahead’ There was a really lovely manager there up to recently and the manager has changed I was told today. I had noticed that the gorgeous, courteous and respectful manager was not there this week. Also, the prices are very high. The charge for a small muffin today was €4.95 and scones €4.95 too !! For 2 coffees, 2 brownies, 2 scones & 2 childrens juices it cost me over €35 !! I’ll certainly be checking with the membership office alright as there is a breach of contract and that’s illegal. I would love to be able to give this place a good review with its ethos and beautiful space, but unfortunately my experience was terrible, both in terms of hygene and customer service. In the self-service bakery area the piles of plates provided are not washed professionally and all have clearly visible sticky residues of food, greasy smears, finger prints & more, all very offputting. I mentioned this to the waitress, who was very polite and apologetic and proceeded to remove the worst offenders from the pile. However as I was selecting the food, I could overhear at the till the middle-aged, salt-and-pepper manager ask what had happened, and when she mentioned it his 'professional' response was to groan a loud, passive-aggressive 'thank you!' in my direction, but without addressing me directly. Hard to believe this type of person works in a customer-facing role. Obviously receiving feedback and improving the experience of his restaurant is something he is not in the least interested in. Airfield should hire with far more discernment.

Lunch served from 11am .. we were there at 11.05am and it was all ready to go. I had trout and two salads with Guinness bread. The whole meal was so tasty. The salads I chose were Asian Slaw and a Quinoa Salad both of which can be oily, these were in no way oily, just full of flavour. The trout was perfectly cooked and plenty of it. The bread was just beautiful. Very reasonable too for such a good quality meal. Just one disappointing thing .. we ordered a pot of tea and a pot of boiling water…. both pots had marks all over from where tea had dripped down previously. Other than that … a wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend a visit. Pop in to Airfield next door when you have finished … to experience a city farm, vintage car chat and loads more !

When we asked if we could come in 15 mins earlier than we booked the waitress said no giving no reason, despite the restaurant being half empty. The service was slow, it took 40mins to get our food. I was given the wrong order twice, third time got it right. One waiter was very nice and apologetic, otherwise there was no explanation about slow service. The food was just okay, for the price would have expected better.

Went here this week for coffee and cake after my child's communion. We were told by people in restauaunt that we could not go to restauraunt anymore so were directed to the shed opposite. Quite a gloomy place. One full table of trays with used paper cups and food near entrance. V little choice.. rocky road €4, scone 4.50, everything is paper...cups, plates loads of plastic cutlery. Felt like an environmental disaster. Very gruff and inexperienced staff. Except one lovely guy. Who was just great and kind and happy. This new place so out of keeping with the gorgeous restauraunt that used to be in the old house. I know times change but Wow...sad to see. Oh the only cake there was was quite a sad looking lemon drizzle. Didn't try! Also they seem to have git rid of garden centre.

This previously buzzing restaurant was more than half empty when my daughter and I visited in early April. The menu is geared to 2 or 3 course lunch which was more than we wanted at lunchtime. We choose a starter dish each, one desert and 3 coffees. Starters at €8 each were particularly small and desert also at €8 was similarly tiny. This business model needs to re-evaluate portion control and the poor portion size at these prices. Our bill, when it arrived had an overcharge of €15 because of the awkward 2 or 3 course pricing system. Even corrected to €35 this lunch represented poor value. What a shame.. Miss Overends used to be such a great place.

Last Friday I was scheduled to have an MRi in Dundrum. As I was travelling from Arklow and my appointment was for late afternoon, I contacted an old friend to meet up for lunch or a cuppa. We decided on Airfield as it is very close to The Rockfield Medical Centre. I was early and waited out in the craft shop area, where I spotted a tea towel that was €17.95. That should have been a hint of what was ahead. It was a very stormy and cold afternoon so I decided to take lunch in the cafe's dining area. Imagine my complete shock when the person at the desk said we could only be seated if we ordered 2 COURSES each! I politely asked if I could have the lunch and my friend a coffee & cake with me. I was sharply informed that was not an option & that to gain a table we both had to have 2 courses each... Never in all my dining out experience have I been TOLD IT WAS COMPULSORY to have 2 courses. Needless to say we opted for take away and ate it in the car. It is my understanding that the most genteel Overend sisters left their estate for the enjoyment of the public. I certainly recall having afternoon tea in the conservatory over looking the gardens. I think they would been turning in their graves. If you are a senior, then my sincerest advice is to stay away from Airfields and bring your business elsewhere. The grounds cost 9€ to enter by the way for seniors. I'd prefer a free and pleasant walk in the Dublin Mountains or along the promenade in Bray. I will pack a lunch next time I need an MRi.

We had a family lunch here recently - a mix of adults and kids. We were in our own area (not on the main restaurant floor) which was nice. We ordered mussels, pork belly, gnocchi and lamb. All were delicious. However, the cabbage with the pork in my view did not taste good. Service was slow considering we were one of the first guests when it opened. The kids menu is extremely poor. We ordered a plate of goujons and potato "chips" - all covered in salt, very inedible. The Lemon Posset was nice but the Apple Pastry was nothing but cream. For the price, food and service was average, not worth it in my view.

Really lovely experience there, the staff went out of their way to make sure they could assist with our dietary requirements. The kids menu isnt great... roast chicken /roast cod with mash just isn't the type of thing our kids will eat in a restaurant but the staff organised for them to get burgers and chips from another place and brought them over. I'm vegan and while they didn't have a vegan option on the menu, the chef is very accomplished and they did bring me out a delicious meal. My partner had their a la carte food which he thought was really delicious.

Popped into here from the Dundrum Shopping Centre for Sunday lunch. Went with the roast chicken as the barley and beef pie looked very unappetising under the keep warm lamps. The chicken came out in sections with what we both felt were small portions and having spoken to the manager one extra bit of chicken was sent out to our table of two. For the price I would’ve expected near enough to half a chicken per person. The chicken wasn’t nicely roasted, the skin was flabby and not palatable. For 18 euro a head it was an overpriced and disappointing meal. Mash was okay if sauce on the salty side and the roasted carrots were the best thing about the dish. Cake and coffee afterwards were grand but not worth a journey for. Really like the idea/ ethos behind the place but would avoid mains there going forward. Also there’s very little in the surroundings to absorb noise so it can be a bit of a headache visiting even before the food arrives. Can’t really understand how the place was so busy.

The eggs, which used to be so flavoursome, were really tasteless this time. I loved the fact that it's local produce, so appreciate that it will be a somewhat limited menu. Very much self-service as well, just the food brought to your table. At €13 for the OK breakfast, it really isn't cheap, so would expect a bit more service. The food was cold and terrible. The kids got mac and cheese which consisted of approximately 10 pieces of cold gelatinous pasta and it remained uneaten. The roast lamb for €18 was 2 pieces of lamb, some peas and a side salad. A scandalously over priced, unfilling, cold dish. I had an extremely underwhelming and uninspring salad for 12 euro. All the elements were dry, bland and tasteless. The only remotely edible ingredient was the humous that I used to add moisture to the dry barely, dry halved carrots and some lettuce. We originally came with the intention of walking the Airfield Estate, as it was raining we decided to grab a bite and wait out the rain. So, thankful that we did! This place was out of this world! We were welcomed like family by “Trice”, short for Patricia. She helped us navigate the ordering process and made wonderful conversation throughout! The space is beautiful and open, and has amazing natural light; which was evident even on this rainy day! The food was beyond belief! We had the Eggs Florentine and it was the best we had every tasted! All of the locally sourced ingredients complimented each other and were a delight to the senses! We had a scone with jam as well and it was equally as fresh and tasty as our meal! We managed to walk the estate during a lull in the rain, and decided to have a light lunch before taking the train back into the city. Lunch was equally as amazing as breakfast! After deciding that we couldn’t stay here all day, we grabbed some snacks, and left with big hugs from Patricia! We promised we would come back before flying back home, and we did. We made the trip, with much better weather this time, and had another amazing dining experience! I cannot say enough good things about the food, the staff and especially Patricia! I loved the waiter service in Overends, I loved going in, spotting my friend(s), perusing the menu, the lovely lady who came over to take my order and after bringing it to me in its entirety would then after a while ask could she get me anything else like another coffee. All that is gone. I hadn't been here since around May last year and it's all changed for the worse. You have to queue up now. You get a table number and eventually your food is brought to you. The menu is more limited, the gorgeous veggie fry that I longed for with the avocado is gone. I asked the nice lady who still works there what happened to my coffee. Apparnetly it was made, I didn't go over to collect it (who knew?) and it was thrown out. Because she's lovely she said she'd bring me another one. Such a pity but I just won't be back. Shame.

I used to love this place. It was just great, you'd have to que at times but it was always worth the wait. Superb staff would ensure that once a table was free, you were looked after. Jugs of refreshing water with mint were automatically placed on the table, kids were given something to color in, mouthwatering menus were handed out and you could relax after your walk around the farm.

My husband and I used the recently opened Cross city Luas to visit Airfield Estate ( Balally stop). We took advantage of the current January offer that with a spend of 30 Euro in Overends, you gained free access for two adults to the estate. ( 10 Euro each otherwise). The staff in this bright restaurant, overlooking a reflective pond, were attentive, professional and courteous. The food is responsibly and sustainably sourced, after all it is in the middle of a working farm. The food was delicious. A wonderful quiche and salad 12 Euro, a daily roast sandwich ( lamb) 9 Euro followed by two delicious baked custard tart and coffees came to 34 Euro. The soup option looked good at 6.50. Really, I don't think you could go wrong with any food choice. It was all of a very high quality. Think Avoca with legs. There were lots of families there who were then heading into the farm with its play areas and viewing of farmyard animals. Will certainly be going back. ( Can add on a shopping trip to the adjacent Dundrum Shopping Centre. What's not to like?

Used to love this place but I agree with other reviews that it has declined. Hate the self service especially given that it's such a family oriented place. It was great to be able to sit the kids & park the buggies & have table service. Now you have to join a big queue & the coffee queue runs into the food queue. Food is fine & service quick enough but i found the staff not helpful. Asked coffee server if there was milk on table & she said yes when there wasn't - so that involved another trip to the top of queue. No glasses left for water & another staff member not bothered to help source glasses. Disappointing

I expected a queue a mile long so came early. The place was almost empty. I had chicken broth laden with salt. I could not eat it. Stale bread. One tiny pat of spread for bread. I told the manager about the soup. He gruffly said he would tell the chef. Soup is 6.50. A slice of quiche with 2 blobs of disgusting salad is 12 euro. I used to get a soup, small sandwich and cookie for 8 euro. People are avoiding this place and no wonder. I did not like the food, prices, self-service, staff. I regret that I will not be dining there again.

I've been to Overends restaurant at Airfield several times. It is a wonderful place - a bright, airy room with views of the gardens and a partially open kitchen. They have recently opted for a more deli style service which makes total sense to me as it gives the place a more relaxed atmosphere and also allows customers to take a close look at all the colourful, fresh food on offer which is what the place is all about. At breakfast there are homemade breads with Irish butter and organic jams, build your own porridge, fresh juices and more. At lunch, overflowing ceramic plates emerge from the kitchen brimming with produce pulled straight from their own garden. The chefs must be in heaven to work with such quality produce - it really is quite rare to find food of this standard on offer. It is an incredible project at Airfield - a charity to preserve the estate and to educate the local community about food provenance - I hadn't realised the background until reading all their history on the leaflet left on the table. The food being served is of course seasonal and I opted for a plate of mixed salads which were beautifully presented, flavoursome and delicious. As for the cakes... it's worth a visit just for those! The staff are friendly and helpful. I'll be back again and again. Thank you.

Only a few months ago I had lunch here twice and it was great. Unfortunately they have changed to self service, clearly on the basis that it would be more profitable. What they haven't twigged is that a well run self service requires nearly as many staff as waiter service, so it's a chaotic rip off. They charge as much for food as before- but you have to queue for ever and then eat it amidst a canteen style mess of discarded trays, drinks cans, cutlery falling off the table etc.Food nothing special and as it is priced for waiter service and you have to forage for it yourself, it's obviously grossly overpriced. A childs portion of pasta was really poor- mingy with virtually no sauce and a flavour which the child disliked.I had to clear our table myself. My daughter asked for help to carry food to the table, as she had 3 small children with her.Staff- claiming they were overstretched- refused.Isn't it funny that at McDonalds, we have always been offered- actually offered- help with trays. And always when you ask for help you get it.So next time we are at Airfield- if we ever do return- we will nip down to McDonalds at Dundrum Centre, for friendly service, better food and great value!!!Looking at other reviews, I find it very surprising that the management seems oblivious to the customer feedback.

The wonderful warm welcome from the original tea, the elegant service and fabulous, extensive menu have been utterly and arrogantly DESTROYED. What were they thinking?!? I did call once and give my opinion on the proposed changes, only to be told it was all to showcase the wonderful food?! And to ensure the financial future of the estate. It's been a grave mistake and Letitia and Naomi would be outraged. They had a wonderful selection of food, which you could choose while seated- a classy weekend brunch, a mouthwatering lunch menu, fabulous cakes on display, an elegant display of drinks. NOW?! Where's the showcase of fabulous food?! Innocent smoothies? A crappy quiche with red peppers? One token vegetarian hotpot. A low-end selection of flapjacks. Canteen-style offering of bottled wine. Brunch? Forget it! I was offered 'daily eggs' an omelette loaded with stuff and some eggs rolled in some other stuff. Since the change I've been there three times, first time I nearly cried, second I brought my mum to show her what they had done, third time I went out of necessity (I was so hungry I could have eaten a horse) Instead of a fabulous brunch like before (Eggs Florentine or Kitty's Garden Works) I had to settle for sourdough toast. I can't help but air my absolute disgust, as I've always done with the staff, so many of whom have been let go, and who are so terribly missed, that morning I complained that the type of dishes they had were very rich for breakfast/brunch. The girl behind the counter has learned her arrogant approach from the new manager. My toast was forgotten - I had to leave my two toddlers AGAIN and go up and ask for it, the two employers were giggling, chatting and one was sipping coffee herself as I asked for my toast.Ughhh! The idea was always ludicrous. As a mother with a buggy and toddlers it's a no go - logistical nightmare. Having to get up and get whatever you may have forgotten from the self service cutlery counter which is not fit for purpose is a disaster. It's fine in Avoca Kilmac, it's a terrible stress in Overends! Whoever thought it was a good idea to take what they had, what we had and do this to it should really be ashamed. It was an elegant place where you would actually dress up a little bit and make sure your children were well behaved. Now the place is like a zoo. The clientèle has totally changed, there's no style anymore, all new customers from the summer camps, most of whom were most likely there on a once off, I don't recognise any familiar faces, there used to be a 'lovely crowd' - no longer the case. I'll say no more on that. Kids are running riot. Tables are left uncleared. Lots of new staff, who were doing a lot of giggling and catching up, instead of making sure the restaurant was presentable. That same morning on arrival I passed the kitchen door and there was music blaring from the kitchen, that would never have been allowed by the other lady manager.I used to go there three times a week and I think I probably spent about 250-300€ a month. We even had a lunch there after my daughter's christening, at the fabulous long table, gone now, as they now 'showcase ' all this fabulous produce LOL!! They might think it's just teething problems and that we will all come on board, no way! I have promised myself I will never STEP foot in Overends again, even though I'm a member of the estate and bring my children there about four times a week.It does stink of cutbacks and bottom lines. Let's see how it fares.. I met some friends today and I mentioned Airfield and two of my friends ranted about how the place has been ruined and they have decided NEVER AGAIN either.I now drive to Herbert Park even though I prefer Airfield. The new manager is rude and arrogant and it annoys me that he seems nearly defensive about the 'showcase' of terrible food he presents. He doesn't give a damn or know perhaps that many of the old team knew me and my two toddlers, and I knew so many by name, and they knew how much I went there and supported the place. I could cry for what it was.How dare they!?And no we don't need to see chalk diagrams about seasonal produce. It's actually insulting. And it lacks, ALL of it lacks ANY CLASS at all.I hope and am confident it will a failure. It's so good to read all the other reviews. All terrible. All outraged.

We were really disappointed to find that the redevelopment of Overends restaurant had actually turned it into a self service cafe type experience. We really disliked it. We found it hard work with 2 toddlers in tow, the new menu is very limited and we will probably now be looking for somewhere else to eat before visiting Airfield in future plus will probably not be renewing our membership. We loved this restaurant as treat after super mornings spent at farm. With new menu, which is very poor for kids, we will not be back. Choice was boiled eggs, waffle or sausage roll. Kids went with sausage roll, was way too much meat for kids & very bland, neither child finished theirs which I was happy with as didn't agree with that much meat. Our breakfast was as disappointing, very bland black pudding rosti. Came to over €30 for it, tea & coffee didn't come down to table with food & when asked about it I was told that they were self service too but I wasn't told that at the till. I am really disappointed as loved the old menu as did my kids.... yearned for the yummy granola & cherry chocolate cake.... won't be back for the men today. Boo! Without doubt the food in this beautifully designed restaurant is outstanding. If they can elevate the simple Victoria sponge to the level of an artform you need to get here to see what they can do with a salad! As a confirmed carnivore this kitchen has made me look at salad with different eyes. My wife and I have been regulars both as a couple and with guests and we were looking forward to seeing how our favourite brunch venue could possibly be improved. Sadly - when we tried to visit shortly after the reopening it seemed that it had become a self service café style operation which I am sure makes a great deal more sense to the accountants but from what the other patrons in the very long queue were sharing might take a bit longer to bed in with the punters. Despondent we left and went elsewhere which really pained me as I still dream of the black pudding salad and Victoria sponge. I guess at this time in my life if I drive to a destination restaurant of this quality I don't mind paying a little more to really enjoy the experience.

I visited the beautiful Airfield estate with my toddler son and had a wonderful morning. Then popped into Overends restaurant for lunch. Sat the little guy in the baby chair and went to collect and order my food and brought it down to the table quickly. Having been there before a few times I've always paid at the end. I asked a passing waitress for a coffee and she went off to get it for me. Next I knew an older gent, who seemed to be a senior bod, is standing over me saying "have you paid" as I'm feeding the baby. I said I hadn't but was of course happy to. He then seemed to have a mini conniption and said I had "somehow bypassed the system". I said I hadn't been aware of the system but would of course pay at the end if that was ok. He came back a minute later and said "I'd have to pay now" I asked if this was really necessary as I was with the baby etc and he insisted. I said ok if it's really necessary. Then I pointed out the bill was wrong and he had undercharged me by €6. He was so insistent he said I had to pay it and that was that. Ok I paid and thought to myself you ruined my meal and lost money for your business. Graceless and unnecessary. Still a lovely setting and food is wonderful but let down by this busybody. What on earth possessed management to change from the very successful restaurant format and pretty good menu to this self-service debacle. As regular visitors in the past, I was pretty dubious about the change and to be honest I haven't tried the new version. Why? Whilst I was willing to pay the premium prices for the previous quality and service - the new menu doesn't entice...and roast with salad just doesn't float my boat at the princely sum of €18. With two toddlers in tow I also favoured Overends in the past because we could wander the farm then sit down, get settled and have our food served. Stuck my head in today and saw the offering in reality is even worse than the menu on website would suggest so seriously guys what's the point. Perhaps you should ask your customers what it is they want!

I have been to Overends a number of times and today was the first day I was ever disappointed. It used to be one of my favourite places for breakfast. They have changed to a self service format with poor results. The menu is now very limited for breakfast. The service is slow. We waited for 5 minutes before any staff appeared at the self security counter. When the lady finally asked us what we wanted she then immediately and inexplicably walked away to do something else for a few minutes. I had the "rolled sausage" which was inedible. The pastry was soggy and slimey and the meat inside was grey and lumpy. It was €6.50 which was expensive for a glorified sausage roll. It seems we are not the only disappointed customers as the restaurant was only half full on a Sunday morning. Previously there would often be a queue out the door. The management have ruined a good thing. Hopefully they will see sense and improve things again. For now though, I won't be returning.

Which was really not tasty(and the kids hated it): cold meat with lots of fat, sad salads and a bad soup . Out of despair my husband ended up getting a soup in 1 min. Obviously I was not told the truth so I spend more on the buffet vs the kids pasta. I complained and they don't care. So overall it is expensive tasteless food and it is not suited for children .
