Afternoon Tea at The Lanesborough in City of London, Westminster

I will give them 5 stars because my drink was great, my husband enjoyed his Cuban Romeo and Julieta Churchill, the host was nice, our waiter was so great and helpful. However, the manager ( I think that’s what he was) was condescending because we were taking pictures, he came over and told us we can take pictures as long other people in the room are not on the picture. Seriously?! Is that necessary?! He ruined his birthday celebration for him.

As a solo female traveler I felt exceptionally welcomed. I visited the lounge to end the day of stolling through London on a high note. And I was not disappointed. They were accommodating to my taste in cigars and their recommendation was spot on. The service was impeccable. Perfect old fashioned to accompany my cigar. The background music created relaxed atmosphere. I could enjoy my cigar and read a book and feel like my batteries fully recharged for the week. Big thank you to professional and attentive personnel.

This hotel is not only stunning and in a great location but it serves the loveliest cocktails in the bar and the best afternoon tea that I have experienced yet! I have not reviewed any afternoon teas before as they were not worthy of a review but my experience here was perfect! Not only was the experience absolutely lovely but the staff at this hotel were so welcoming and really went the extra mile to ensure that my family and I were looked after. I would recommend the afternoon tea here to celebrate a special occasion. We are looking to return soon!

This was birthday gift for me from my good friend and what a great choice. I can honestly say I don’t understand the negative reviews on here and can only think that those who make those comments are already in a negative mindset. Living in London, an afternoon tea now and then is my treat so I’ve been to many in the city. The Lanesborough is in my top 3!. Such a friendly warming environment right from being greeted at the door to leaving 4 hours later, yes it was so good, we went to the Library bar for drinks afterwards…. Drinks and table efficiently sorted by the attentive and equally lovely staff, Andreas and Efi to name just 2 that stuck in my mind. The Bridgerton themed tea was very well done, food was fresh and a delight. Refills of sandwiches and lots of tea choice included. I had the Champagne offer which was Mercier, equally delish! Cakes were so cleverly done and beautiful. Too much so even left with the a ‘doggy bag’. My friend had the cocktail option and really enjoyed that too. If you go to luxury hotels for afternoon tea, you get very special food so given the quality and quantity with refills, I’d say the price was really reasonable. The service was impeccable and not overdone in any way, the staff were happy to chat casually and told us of the building history and of course Lillibet the resident cat. If I have to be negative about anything, the drinks are quite pricey but hey… it’s a luxury high end venue so to be expected. Not stuffy, very well done where every customer appeared valued. A treat for us. May sees a new afternoon tea I believe and we would definitely be back again, even if just for drinks. Thank you to all at the Lanesborough, a really lovely afternoon.

We had an absolutely brilliant time at the afternoon tea. The food and the setting was amazing - we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service second to none, all staff were brilliant but Rafaella and Jahid really stood out. Will visit again!

This hotel is stunning! The afternoon tea was simple superb. Could not fault the atmosphere, food, and the service was really really good. It is well worth the money, you get what you pay for! This is a 5* hotel, in central London, we really enjoyed our experience and will definitely be back. Thank you!

Cigar night on a Friday, one of the best venues in London. The service is really exceptional and really helpful with the menu and recommendations. Thank you to the management on site, really enjoyable evening. Go try it you will not be disappointed

My daughters and I enjoyed our afternoon tea. Honestly I am surprised to see so many negative reviews. We had a lovely experience with excellent service and delicious treats. Champagne was wonderful as well. We would definitely come back.

We went for champagne afternoon tea on Christmas Eve. It was £95 per head. We wanted a glass of rose champagne rather than the one on offer. This was an additional £10 per head. The afternoon tea itself was dreadful, the worst and most expensive I have ever had. It consisted of a few sandwiches, of which I only liked one. One of the sandwiches was egg mayonnaise, one of my favourite sandwiches, but not with garlic mayo! On top of the sandwiches and I do mean literally on the sandwiches there was a serviette with a pie on top of it! Then s further plate consisting of very sickly cakes and the last plate one cake to share. The scones were simply in a serviette placed on the table. The bottle of water was an astronomical £14. (We went to Chichetti that evening and had exactly the same bottle of water £5) Simply dreadful and disappointing afternoon tea.

Visited The Garden room on 4.01.24 for my partners 29th birthday. We didn't know what to expect as it was our first time experiencing a cigar lounge. Georgiana was so helpful and really kind, she talked us through which cigars she would recommend and was very patient and attentive. We were lucky to have the lounge all to ourselves which was nice as it made the experience very intimate. Each and every member of staff we encountered were so kind, welcoming and they even brought over a dessert for his birthday and gave him a complimentary drink to try and talked us through what it was which he really liked. Overall we had a really nice experience and want to thank every body who dealt with us for their hospitality as it really made our first experience a very positive one and we both really appreciated the complimentary treats as they were unexpected.

I did the festive Queen Charlotte Afternoon Tea for New Year’s Eve. The teas (Queen Charlotte blend, and orange roobios) were so good. I wished I could have tried the others but alas I only have 1 stomach. The handmade scones and the preserves were delicious. The sandwiches and turkey pie was a nice savory hit, and the dessert cakes themed to Bridgerton was silky smooth and rich. The service staff were attentive and I enjoyed the sublime atmosphere.

Absolutely incredible bar with a great range of cocktails and spirits. Amazing team with exceptional customer service. Every time I go back the already impeccable service somehow seems to improve. The whole team is great, especially Simone, Cesar and Sophian. - My only suggestion would be to bring back the olives to the selection of bar snacks.

Beautiful room, feels a little bit like Savoy tea room but smaller and tables closer. Service poor, no follow up. Then waiter was very abrupt, Information about substitutes was not correct. We were not clear on what we were eating from the explanation. Sandwiches uninspired. Desserts good and decorated very well. The one that you were to split( only got 1 per 2 people) was not splittable without crushing it and it’s sugar crown was inedible. It truly was a just missed.

The Lanesborough lives up to its reputation and our expectations. We booked afternoon tea in The Grill as a birthday treat for a friend. The service was attentive and timed to perfection. Regular checks were made throughout and every need was premeditated. The afternoon tea was with a Queen Charlotte theme (Bridgerton) and the cakes were all a feast for the eyes and mouth. We were compelled to take umpteen photos for instagram as everything was just so beautiful. We loved everything and would highly recommend. We will be back.

My husband and I attended Lanesborough afternoon tea for our Anniversary celebration. From entering the hotel, the welcoming porters, helpful receptionist until we got seated, everyone we came across had a smile was welcoming and pleasant. The location is intimate with a lovely atrium. "Andrea" who was our host was very professional, polite and knowledgable with great recommendations. The food was delicious with a diverse selection of sandwiches, each had a unique lovely taste. The scones were warm, fresh and very light served with clotted cream and delicious preserves. Dessert selection was unique, had delicate taste and look which was very much aligned with Queen Charlotte theme. There was a live pianist which was a lovely touch. The tea selection was flavoursome, piping hot with the tea server prompt. We were pleasantly surprised by the hand written Anniversary card and a complimentary pastry. Finally at the end of our wonderful afternoon tea Andrea handed us the a packet of seeds to plant in the garden which was a kind gesture and completed the delightful experience. We had a wonderful afternoon celebrating our anniversary not just because of the high standard of the afternoon tea but also importantly the quality of the service and general positive attitude of the staff. We regularly go for Afternoon tea and the Lanesborough has really set a high standard on a par if not better then the others. A must do experience to celebrate your special day.

My experience at the Lanesborough Hotel for afternoon tea was disappointing to say the least. This almost entirely came down to the service we experienced. I went there with my friend, excited to try the Queen Charlotte afternoon tea they were providing, and as my friend has coeliac disease, we were happy to find they had a gluten free menu available. However, once there it took over 45minutes for a server to even come to our table to ask what tea we wanted, having tried to catch their attention once a significant amount of time had passed. Once the sandwiches and cakes arrived my friend mentioned that she was allergic to some nuts and asked if that would be a problem with the cakes. She was greeted with an eye-roll and told she should have mentioned this earlier (which she recognised, however the servers tone was unnecessarily rude). He was then reluctant to bring her scones as they may contain traces of nuts, and again aggressively told her that if she had informed him earlier he could have had the kitchen prepare her some. She then said she would be happy to wait, and after trying to dissuade her, then went and reluctantly asked the chefs to make her fresh scones. After we were full, I asked the same server if he could pack my remaining food into a to-go bag - having seen this done for multiple other customers. He proceeded to use a condescending tone telling me it would be a "waste" for him to do so as the various cakes would be "mush" by the time I arrived home. When I said I did not mind this and would like them anyway, he rolled his eyes, took my plates and went to "see what he can do". Needless to say, we both felt fairly belittled at this point. When we then asked for the bill, a different server came over with a card machine and asked if we wished to split it, to which we responded yes. We were then asked to calculate this ourselves, and knowing the afternoon-tea cost £85 asked to each pay as such. We were told it came to £87.75 each, and believed this included service charge as it was more than the cost of the food. Having paid this, we were preparing to leave when the same server came back to us and informed us that we had underpaid. We consequently questioned this showing her the bill which stated the tea cost £85 each. After, again, presenting the bill as if we had underpaid she proceeded to tell us that there was an extra £25 service charge which we "could split", but that it was discretionary and we did not have to pay it if we wished. Both myself and my friend were shocked that having already paid for our food we were put in an uncomfortable position regarding a service charge whilst leaving the venue - particularly given the quality of the service we had received throughout our experience. The venue was beautiful and the food was lovely, however, due to the various interaction had with the staff (which ranged from patronising to outrageous) our experience was unfortunately tainted. I hope this message gets back to the staff at the Lanesborough and sincerely hope this improves in the future. It would be a shame given the beauty of the hotel.

My family and I enjoyed a lovely Queen Charlotte themed afternoon tea. I t was a wonderful birthday treat. Having visited many other top London hotels for afternoon tea our expectations were high and we certainly were not disappointed. The food was delicious, plentiful and was beautifully presented. The service was excellent and we enjoyed the background piano music very much. It was a very pleasant and relaxing afternoon treat. We will definitely visit again. Thank you

I did not enjoy my afternoon tea experience. It had been some years since I was last there, and I had been several times. My recollection was the experience was a treat. This time, the service was extremely poor. At one point there was approx a 20 minute wait for fresh tea to be served. The food was lovely, there was plenty of it and I enjoyed the specialty of the Queen Charlotte fare. One of our party was celebrating a birthday and I appreciated the extra attention she received. I did find the room a bit chaotic, with children allowed wander freely through the dining room. Overall, the price has jumped enormously since I visited in pre-Covid time, but the experience was significantly downgraded. I did mention my views when I was leaving, but was advised that there were a number of new staff in training. It is not at all value for money any longer, and having been one of my favourite afternoon tea spots ever, I can't see myself returning.

Very posh experience. Great ambiance, great service. Excellent cigar selection accompanied by a superb whiskey selection. Highly recommend this venue/experience

One of my favourite places in Central

I have eaten here many times (Ok it was a hospital, and I was a nurse) and many times I looked at Buckingham Palace gardens through the top windows.

This was a fancy afternoon tea with wonderful customer service. We felt like special guests because of the way they took care of us. I'm gluten free and chose this place because they had gluten free options for me including scones. I've never had clotted cream before and it was magical! The desserts were all very sweet and beautiful. The gluten free sandwich bread was so soft and delicious, I couldn't believe it was gluten free.

I loved everything about this afternoon tea. I am shocked to hear any negative reviews. My daughter and I ate every single thing that was brought out to us. Normally we never eat this much but everything was so amazing that we couldn't stop! The desserts were out of this world! I normally don't like scones. However these were delicious! I would love to have the recipe for the scones. Service was great and he even gave me a couple of scones to take home since I loved them so much. I just wish there was some type of music.

Went to the hotel for afternoon tea on Tuesday 25th April. Once we were shown to our table, I realised that we could hear a continuous noise. Spoke to one of the staff who said that some renovations were happening and they didn’t realise that the sound would be heard. They promptly moved us to the other side of the room and gave us complimentary drinks. Several staff came to speak to us and apologise. Such great customer service - they really wanted to make it a good experience which it was.

Marvellous place, great services as the staff were friendly and accommodating, Neil was helpful in recommending a cigar to try. Very pleasant spot that is worth a visit for any cigar aficionado in London or even if you would like a drink. Very impressive cognac menu.

Wow. If you are a cigar lover and find yourself in London wanting to enjoy a cigar, this is THE place. Amazingly good cigars, excellent staff and nice surroundings made this one of my best cigar experiences so far. You have to buy cigars here, you cannot enjoy your own. The price is a bit steap, but hey, for once per year, you can afford ut.

Absolutely stunning cigar lounge that is outstanding in the way it’s outside but feels like it’s inside. This is the best most luxurious place to sample and smoke a fine Cigar. The layout is stunning. The service is outstanding. Fabulous choice of well kept cigars and also great whisky’s. I’ve been several times even in the winter and it never ever felt cold. I think it has underground heating it feels that warm. It’s not cheap! In fact it’s expensive, but what do you expect in such fine surroundings in a 5 star hotel in central London. If you enjoy a fine Cigar then you won’t be disappointed in this place, just take plenty of money. I believe it’s worth the expense, for the fantastic experience in such beautiful surroundings.

The place is nice. The service not the best. The cigar they picked for me wad torn in multiple spots and couldnt ask to change because it was cut already while I was away from the table. Still nice place to smoke, cosy atmosphere.

This place has a grat selection of cigars at all price ranges. From quality Cuban standards to vintage rarities, they've got options. They also know how to keep their stock environmentally regulated and in good condition so you know you'll be getting a quality stick in premium condition. The beverage options are a little expensive but very high quality. Single malts, cocktails, drafts, champagnes, non-alcoholic options, etc. It's one of those situations where you're paying a little extra for the service, environment and quality with the menu. I highly recommend this place for those that are looking for a place that serves high quality goods and high quality service. Excellent all around.

Best cigar bar in London by far. A very wide selection of cigars (some quite rare) and an extensive collection of drinks (some extremely rare). Don't think about it. Just go!
