62 The Bank in North Devon

Stopped off for tea and cake with my small dog after seeing sign in window that says dogs welcome. Checked out the lounge to the right and found lovely sofa overlooking the window. Upon placing order I was told no dogs in lounge and asked to move to bar central area where dogs allowed. I said shame due to the window sofa and was told window view in middle lounge. You couldn't see out the other info due to High bonket seating ... Really not welcome as laid up as restaurant not a chill area like other lounge ... Tab s were laid up for restaurant use ....felt so uncomfortable and not welcomed that I left and doubt would be back again..... Was checking venue and staff out for fiftieth celebration but prob go elsewhere after that visit. Such a shame

Cocktails at No 62 are very good. Particularly the Margaritas that Ian makes. Great decor and atmosphere

Most of the food was okay. Ordered a mushroom pancake and it had one miniscule button mushroom in it and a ton of large chunks of carrot. I couldn't describe it as a mushroom pancake. The cheese sauce was also split. Mentioned this to staff, all they had to say is they didn't know what it was supposed to be.

Carvery is much better than most.Huge serving of meat.All nice and fresh.

While staying in the area for a few days we were looking for somewhere with good vegan & vegetarian dinner option. Bar62 The Bank did not disappoint. From the start we had excellent customer service with a constant smile from Kaitlyn. What an asset to your team she is. She knew the menu well and helped with food choices. Vegan options are clearly indicated on the menu. I had the hazelnut pesto rigatoni which was absolutely delicious. My husband had the vegetable fajitas, a good selection of crisp vegetables with the usual accompaniments. I also requested some bread which Kaitlyn said she spent some time in discussion with the chef to ensure it didn’t contain any dairy products, again going the extra mile for the customer. Dessert was a chocolate sphere filled with ganache & raspberry ‘gel’ very nicely presented. If in the area again we will definitely return here. The food, service and ambience was excellent.

Excellent and varied menu. Food was exceptional. Lamb, belly pork, Hake - desserts were ridiculous- portion control doesn’t exist either. Loved it! Went back the following night.

Fantastic food and great value on the buy get one half price lunch menu. The Korean chicken burger was awesome. Wife also enjoyed her chicken parmo. Would love to come back. Decor wad Fantastic and the staff were great. Worth every penny.

Absolutely fabulous food and wonderful service. We went with two well behaved children and the attention too detail was very much appreciated. They had already prepared the table for two children and whilst initially we had been concerned taking the children any concerns were quickly dispelled. We had a wonderful family evening in a wo derful setting. Thank you!

Brilliant service, lovely food and best service

I first contacted them via messenger about booking the carvery for our daughter’s birthday. They saw the message but just ignored it so I then called them to book and advised one member of the party would be gluten free as they say they cater for gluten free. No problem! All good. When we arrived we went straight to the carvery and the gluten free options were simply the chef pointing out all the things I couldn’t have. This is sadly the norm when gluten free. You just get less choice or less food for the same money. I had hoped a gluten free Yorkshire pudding might have been an option as these are readily available to buy if chef didn’t want bother but no. The food itself was mediocre, under seasoned, the potatoes were slightly hard, the cauliflower cheese almost slop. The meat was nice though. It’s such a shame as it was a special occasion for us. I have to say though that the guy who ran front of house was just lovely, very friendly and professional - a real credit to the business. It’s a lovely building, a really lovely setting to sit and eat but the food does let it down. 10/10 for the maitre d and cleanliness of toilets but 5/10 for food. Harsh but true :-(

First time for us, the food, service and smarty dressed staff were well above what we had expected. The carvery was very good and at what I call a reasonable price. We will certainly be going back there again.

Mediocre at best , my first visit here and I was told I had to try the steak pancakes , my partner had them for a starter and it was overcooked and tough. Unfortunately I had to wait to have mine until the main, yet again, overcooked steak and tough. My partner had the pork with cracking for a main. Pork was overcooked and no crackling . Needless to say we didn’t have a pudding , with a £90 bill for two starters and two mains with a couple of drinks , we certainly expected a better quality meal. Unfortunately it’s my first and last visit there. It seems the Brends need to seriously up the game with the prices charged .

Bar 62 Great place for a cocktail the mixologist is always on the go

A return visit to a favourite haunt, booking strongly recommended, but Sunday night not too busy. Great setting, good food. Shame they'd run out of Atlantic Pale Ale yesterday. Sirloin, Bass and house salad with icecream trios+clotted cream. They do a peanut butter and jelly cocktail drink which we didn't fancy one little bit !!!! Updated a year later on, in April 2024. Still good, service slightly slow. Sirloin again and grilled salmon, icecream trio for both of us. Doombar. Outside covered in scaffolding but inside decor still excellent

Great food! Highly recommend the horseradish and steak pancakes and fajitas. Service is really good too. Definitely exceeded our expectations 😍

A very nice bar. The decor is exceptional and well maintained. The service was a little slow but I feel that's because we weren't that visible. I felt the prices were a little expensive but I'll definitely be back.

21 of us booked in for the carver for my mum’s 80 birthday. Food was great staff really friendly and helpful. Very accommodating. For such a big number even put the football on for us to watch in the main bar. 👍🏽 keep up the good work

Really lovely sirloin steak served to perfection. However, that mashed potatoes prawn curried starter was dissapointing as the mashed potatoes was hard and no refund for the starter was offered at the time of the bill was due. Otherwise a lovely meal in a good atmosphere

Well again short if I can but not so sweet. A few things The Brends need to consider. The most important one, is you are loosing your grip on your business! Now I’ve been giving my business to The Brends for some 30 years or more but now I have my doubts about their service and their consideration for their customers. Booked Mothers Day lunch, paid the deposit, informed them one of the party was disabled and in a wheelchair. Arrived at the Royal Fortescue (To whom I’d made the booking) to be told we would be dining in the small area between RF and 62 The Bank. This was once a cafe/tea area. Anyway got a drink at the bar. Can I put it on my tab….NO too difficult as I was classed at eating in The Bank ! Had to pour our own drinks as the bar staff are evidently trained they don’t offer a pouring service any more. Anyway. Table position had no consideration for other dinners or my mother as this was difficult for her and those sat around on other tables, with the wheelchair. Finally desert, which was all preordered at the start, took in excess of 20 minutes to reach us, with so many apologies that it became embarrassing for us never mind the staff. It’s a walk on by next time… and that is a shame, as the food was quite good 😒🙈🙈

We had Sunday lunch and it was great we were well looked after one of us is a celiac and they catered fir this really well when we asked a question they could not do enough to get the answer great

Went for a quiet evening meal at 62 the bank in Barnstaple would highly recommend this establishment.first class service,staff where very professional and attentive and the food was excellent.i had the creamy mushroom and vegetable pancakes for a starter and it was amazing

Went with 3 friends, 3 of us ordered the steak pancake which I have had several times. Tonight it was very disappointing, the steak was very grisly which I left on the side of my plate and the other 2 people said that the steak was tough. The waitress was lovely and that she would tell the chef and the manager but we saw nobody. None of us will be in a hurry to return!

Went Christmas day for lunch. Dreadful meal... Canapés dry with no flavour. Turkey tasteless. Stuffing balls impossible to cut as rock hard. Yorkshire puds, brittle. Ginger pannacotta sooo full of ginger, burnt mouth and made eyes water.. Not a good experience, especially as paid £85...never again will I eat there.

Lovely restaurant . Great service and atmosphere. Good vegetarian choices. Accommodated us as a last minute drop in of 3 people despite being busy with Christmas parties in. Faultless.

A really great place to have some lunch in Barnstaple. The food is divine and the service is superb. You don't necessarily have to reserve beforehand but it does get busy due to it's popularity. Very highly recommended!

I am still in slight shock that for a main meal only and one drink each our bill totalled £60. The food was good but I wouldn't return.

Had a wonderful few hours here for the festive bottomless brunch with a couple girlfriends. Opted for the fajitas which were plentiful and tasty. Think I tried most of the festive cocktails on the menu and they were all very tasty. Service was top notch as it was so busy and the team really did look after us so thank you.

Venison was well done and really should have been rare. Dessert was fabulous

My wife and l have eaten in 62 The Bank a few times now, and l can not fault this establishment at all, always a joy to dine.

We visited here for quick drink we warmly welcomed and seated it's a lovely little bar, are only complaint was the bar was rather warm, we would definitely return again

Exquisite starter scallop ceviche with fabulous buttermilk dressing. Star level cuisine. Sea bass was succulent. Service very good altough somewhat over present.

Went twice to this restaurant in an old bank in the centre of Barnstaple. It has an amazing ceiling. The food was excellent and service attentive. Children’s portions are very generous and a nice choice for both adults and minors.

We visited today for the carvery. We found staff very welcoming even though we hadn’t booked a table. We were served extremely quickly and professionally and the food was very good, however we found the person carving the meat to be rather unfriendly and a little rude. My son asked her a question which she didn’t answer and she made us feel like it was too much trouble to serve us. This was a shame as the rest of the staff were brilliant!

absolutely terrible food the burgers were awful we ended up sending them back, however the front of house staff were fantastic very helpful and took them off our bill

Recently went here with my husband, in-laws and children. We had an early table so the restaurant was lovely and quiet. Staff were friendly, attentive and great with the children. The food was outstanding - the pancakes sounded a bit odd on the menu but boy were we wrong ! They tasted lovely - the fajitas were great too. We would highly recommend this restaurant if you want good quality food with friendly staff to serve you. It is little pricey but worth it!

We ordered two of the truffle burger mains and both patties were overdone, tough and dry. In addition, we couldn't taste the truffle, nor was there much flavour to the burger. We did let the staff know and they offered to send it back to the kitchen, but we declined. For £18 each, we would have expected the quality to have been better.

We popped in for a cocktail… and spent all evening here! What a wonderful experience! From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel incredibly welcomed and special.The mixologist, our servers (Lucy, Luke and another kind chap who's name I didn't catch), went above and beyond to ensure that we had a fantastic evening. The vegetarian options on the menu were brillant. I highly recommend the vegetable fajitas, which were beautifully presented and packed with flavour. The real standout of the evening was the cocktail selection. The mixologist was an absolute master at crafting unique and delicious cocktails, perfectly. His attention to detail and knowledge of mixology was truly impressive and made for an unforgettable experience. Overall, I cannot recommend Bar62 and 62 The Bank highly enough. The incredible food and cocktails were only surpassed by the wonderful staff who made us feel so special. Thank you so much.

We had 2 carvery meals but veg were not cooked enough for our liking, leeks almost raw, roast potatoes were good, nice beef not pink, but that's how we like it. A good selection and serve yourself apart from meats, turkey also available today.

Went for the bottomless brunch. Lovely food, cocktails looked delicious but I don't drink so had the cucumber mocktail. Very nice. Attentive staff, clean tables. Very reasonable price. Would recommend it.

It was a good visit today. Food quality was good and service was good. All in all a good visit. But it just wasn’t top quality, staff were adequate in their service.

Wonderful menu, found it really different plus difficult to choose. The calamari to start was divine and I followed this up with the seafood pancake. Both so very tasty although did have a bit of food envy for the ribs or the Thai curry. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Someone has spent a lot of time training and making sure things are right. Well done, it shows

Visited on the bank holiday. Not much was open. So good on them for being open. Was very quiet and sadly lacking much atmosphere despite the fancy ceiling. Menu didn’t really speak to me, but the steak was tasty as was the steak pancakes. Cocktail was interesting and it was nice to be able to speak to the guy behind the bar to help with choosing.

My favourite place in barnstaple. Ian is a credit to your company along with josh. 5⭐ service as always. The best cocktails in town 🍸🍹

Was really nice but very quiet the evening we went. I suspect its not always like that ! Fast and friendly service. Some of us had pancakes . Delicious although I'd have preferred mine hotter but difficult when you have side salad on the plate as well. Look forward to coming back perhaps on a busier day .

Staff meal out great place, don't know why I've never been before

First time eating here and was not disappointed in fact very impressed. Chose the creamy mushroom and veg filled pancakes absolutely gorgeous from first taste to last. Did not have a starter as wanted to try the desserts but the mains filled me up. Saw the dessert I was going to try on another table definitely got to return and try that. The surroundings are beautiful especially the ceiling. Staff very welcoming and was very attentive to our needs without being pushy. Overall a very pleasant evening.

We enjoyed another great evening meal here with friendly staff in stylish surroundings. There were several dishes available for my gluten free diet, I enjoyed the Keralan curry. A buffet breakfast was also served here in The Bank during our three night stay at the hotel, and that was also excellent.

Good looking interior and bar area with attentive staff but let down by the food (chorizo burger was really not good) and drink (the NZ red wine we had was really poor value for money)

What a lovely bar and restaurant. We were in a party of 16 for a family get together and had a big table out the back. Nice and clean and modern for an old building. Staff were friendly and efficient. Most people had the carvery, 1 person did not like their's but was being fussy. The food off the lunch menu was good with a nice choice. A nice place

We have heard lot of good things about this restaurantand were not disappointed. Simply amazing, high quality and full of flavour food. Both meat and vegan options. The cocktail and mocktail options are on another level. Catering for kids through to large parties it's clear this venue is a must for anyone in the area. Oh and the staff are impeccable on every level. Coffee and Tea also excellent.

went for xmas lunch the sevice was disgusting we had to keep calling staff over to clear the table although the staff were all stood around talking. food was cold & they had ran out of gravy which is silly as gravy makes a xmas/sunday dinner. ridiculous...dont waste your time going there

We keep returning so that should say it all. We mostly choose the carvery lunchtimes as there is a good choice of veg and GT gravy for me, and excellent value. We love the atmosphere you always get there and always great servive

A very strange experience. Came for my bottomless brunch, and although the waitressing and food/drinks was great as always, my table was the only table within the room for an hour until other guests arrived. I understand that you have to cater for everyone, but...

Lovely lunch and excellent service

Very disappointed with the service, food and how we were treated last night. We had a table booked and 3 course dinner payed for in advance. Table booked for 28 people for an NHS Christmas Meal. Table wasn’t ready on arrival, no available seating to have a drink while we waited so got asked to go into the Fortescue Hotel to buy a drink at their bar while we stood around waiting. When we finally got to our table we were crammed into a small room where fortunately only 15 people could make the meal due to COVID and Flu on our ward. One of us rang in advance to prewarn them that unfortunately only 15 people could make it. We were told on the phone that the money was non refundable so it could go as money behind the bar for drinks. But when we were seated, we were informed that this wasn’t the case and they were keeping our £400+ as the food was already prepared which we understood but still didn’t think was fair as we called in the morning to inform them and our meal was at 20:15pm. Some of the people that couldn’t make it phoned and asked for the money to be put towards our drinks for the night. But this wasn’t the case either as they told us that wasn’t possible. So we asked for the food to still come out as we wanted to give it to the homeless but they didn’t bring the extra food out as a waitress informed us that the food wasn’t prepared which meant we got lied to at the start evening by a manager. When we did get our food it wasn’t up to the standard that we thought it would be. Baring in mind we paid £37.50 per person, the meals were very small and the food was very dry. When we asked for extra gravy and cranberry sauce they only gave us some amounts to go around 15 people. They continuously ignored our requests for the food to be brought out. Our bill at the end was £80 which we refused to pay as 3 individuals and maybe a few more called and asked for their money to be put behind the bar for drinks which was agreed by a day time manager. Very disappointed and we won’t be returning for our Christmas Meal next year unfortunately.

We had an evening meal and were seated at a round table near the window which was perfect for 5 of us. Great choices and very friendly staff. Mock tails were available which were a bonus for the designated driver. My grandson had a brilliant...

Back again to one of our favourite places for lunch. It was a lovely Christmas atmosphere there today, and as always amazing food and service. It's such a lovely room to sit and enjoy a fabulous lunch.

Menu was very limited so would imagine the food to be great... wrong! Steak in a pancake doesn't work especially when the meat has been cooked to within an inch of its life. Mexican burger was like a hockey puck. Cold and tough.. The waitress couldn't get us out quick enough, no people skills whatsoever and felt very much like we were in the way. £200 later and felt like we would've had a better experience in the local kebab shop. Sorry @62 The Bank but your chef and front of house need a change and soon!
