Great dining experience. The food was wonderful. We had tapas and the portions were perfect. It was served in a timely way so all the food was hot and kept coming at just the right time. The wine was good, and the cocktails were perfect too. 44 Hill Street is a gem of a restaurant in a great spot for a night out in Belfast.

Went in after having tried other places on Hill St that unfortunately had their kitchens closed. Ordered quickly as noted a very large group of young men came in, sadly I wasn't alerted to the fact that their meals were preordered so we had to wait till they were all served their dinner. Beef bourguignon was quite tasty but my husband's steak though medium rare was more tough than it should've been and he really needed his steak knife to get through it. Sides of veges a total flop, broccoli a very insipid colour with overcooked carrot and some unusual potato type fingers mixed in that had obviously been boiled or steamed. I could've overlooked much of this had the bill not been so overpriced at £90 for three drinks and sad food.

After a long day of touring Northern Ireland, in Belfast, we sat down for lunch at 44 Hill Street at almost 5:00 pm, we were very well looked after, a cozy place, polite and attentive people. Everything was very tasty, from the starters to the main dishes, very well served and quite tasty. It was a rather pleasant find. Excellent value for money. $$

Food was good and served efficiently by motivated staff. The restaurant was busy for a Sunday but they managed to serve everyone. I would recommend this restaurant.

After struggling to find somewhere that did vegetarian food we eventually stumbled on this place and decided we couldn’t be bothered going on much further. Glad we did cos the food was beautiful. Fairly decent range of vegetarian food. The meal I had was absolutely delicious, especially the dessert. The chocolate nemesis was stunning. Don’t expect to be rushed in here. Our server was under a load of pressure as it started to fill up but handled it well and was really lovely. Not the cheapest restaurant around, but everything provided was of a really high standard so you can live with paying a bit more than other places. Would definitely go again when I’m back in Belfast.

Quite mixed opinion. We have 3 dishes A perfectly cooked fish of the day, a cordon bleu taken for our daughter (in the absence of a children's menu offered) and a beef burger... I was very disappointed by the latter which was very small and served without ANY accompaniment and the beef is more than average (frozen?). The other 2 dishes had a mini side of salad. The value for money is not there.

First of all, the location and service are great. Orders were ready to eat in less than 15 minutes. The cordon bleu was very tasty and absolutely reasonable in price. The fries were absolutely horrible and way too overpriced for the quantity, but after complaints were made they were kindly removed from the bill immediately. The burger was certainly tasty, but very small and absolutely overpriced. In terms of food, I didn't have anything that stood out from the many other restaurants in the area.

it looks like the chef was on vacation...Price/quality is bad, I asked for a steak weld done and it got it medium, also the ratatoille was not good and not close to original dish. Calamary fritti was also not tasted.. in general expensive and bad meal..

The food was beautifully cooked and the wings were especially amazing! However, they might be short of hands when we were there, so we waited a little bit longer for our food and bills.

My husband treated me to a beautiful meal, Colleen our waitress was so lovely couldn't have done enough for us! One slight problem with meal but she made sure this was resolved with no fuss, great spot will deffo be back! Only thing I probably would say it the service charge should be optional - however didn't make a big deal to me with great service and great food I was always going to be tipping.

Disappointing to say the least, there were two people in a serving capacity, the local lady who organized the drinks was lovely, however the gentleman who took our order and served the food was nothing less than indifferent. The automatic 10% gratuity is an insult, as he obviously knows that no one in their right mind would provide a tip. As an example, we had to hunt for our own cutlery on other tables!!! Took the order, dropped the food, disappeared, came back for the Visa card. Please do yourself a favour and skip this one.

Disappointing - service and steak and chicken wings good but tapas smoked Haddock no better than frozen Iceland stuff. Onion rings were overcooked and not very nice. Ambience and environment nice but 10% service charge added without asking. Not particularly impressed for £76.00.

Nice surroundings,the bar looks great. Staff friendly and efficient. Food is good, pre theatre menu is value for money. Drinks are expensive but no more so than most restaurants in the area

We stopped there for an early dinner as we were wandering around Commercial Court. Nice place, good service (Araz, I´m not sure I spell his name right, he is from Kurdistan, was really nice). I had the fish of the day and as side dish the dauphinoise, potatoes cutted and in a pile very well seasoned. Both were a great match. My husband chose a pasta, a very tasty carbonara. Good choice, great service and very good food.

Ambience, service and food is all very pleasing. The tapas is delicious, but the portions are tiny. 3 morcels per £5 serving. Pricey, but fun.

Very good restaurant in Belfast

Had an absolutely amazing lunch here yesterday. The food and service are fantastic and the restaurant is beautifully decorated. A very good wine list. Would highly recommend the steak and dauphinoise potatoes and the creme brûlée was the best I have ever had.

Most yummy food in the world. Especially for the tapas and mush potatoes.

We ordered a drink on arrival and nothing appeared at our table for nearly half an hour. Had to ask for menus. Food was average. We found it difficult to get the bill —a waiter who may have been French brushed us off saying that he was looking after other people. To conclude very poor service with an unpleasant atmosphere. There are lots of other nicer restaurants around the Cathedral quarter. We won’t be back.

The ambiance and staff were great. The tapas were really good - we loved the goat cheese croquettes with lavender honey and the crispy halloumi. The drinks were also nice, but the mains left a lot to be desired. We aren't usually picky, but the gnocchi was really flavourless and dry - I had to salt it quite a bit to make it palatable and only ate part of the portion, and I have never met a gnocchi I didn't like! My partner said his chicken cordon bleu was also really bland. If we go back, it would just be for some small plates. Also they do add a service charge automatically to the bill, even for a table of two, so be aware of that.

I've never been embarrassed in a restaurant as I was in this one. I arived with my husband and the French sir instead of directing us to a table, as there were many empty ones, he handed us the menu, pointed to the prices and left. He left us standing at the entrance for a long time. When he came back he asked us if we are going to order something. We really felt very undervalued, as if we didn't have money to pay. We ordered two burgers, mine with additional brie cheese, I paid £2 for 3 tiny cheese rectangles on top of the meat hahhaah how ridiculous. We never, ever step foot in this place again.

Great spot 1st time here won't be our last. Food was top class. Ignore other bad reviews. You pay for what you get and this was worth the money.

Lovely atmosphere and well-presented food. The service was mostly good; however, the staff were slow at clearing plates away, checking if we wanted additional drinks, and if we wanted dessert. The food looked beautiful and was overall nice, but maybe the gnocchi could be more flavorful. Also, the breads and hummus were a little disappointing; the bread wasn't fresh, and the hummus needed more seasoning. Other than that, the other meals were very tasty. The restaurant was busy and the manager seemed to be stressed every time he walked past our table, a smile and some cheerful engagement with his guests would be a nice addition

Arrived and front of house just stared at us until we spoke. Focaccia as starter was dry, mains - beef bourguignon was average at best, fish special was overcooked and dry. Dessert awful - cheesecake had a curdled texture and look, sticky toffee pudding was like a brick and ice cream was solid as a rock. We sent back desserts not a word was said of apology, they were however removed from bill. Left one person eating dessert on their own. Service wasn’t great, asked for water never arrived. Had to ask for cutlery at one point also. Extremely disappointing given the price. We weren’t asked once how the food was. There are many better places to eat. Edit on response: Thank you however, we wont be back both the food and service was extremely poor and a waste of money.

The food was very good. The restaurant was very cold, despite it being very mild outside. We asked them to put the heating on, but it made no difference. I have become concerned lately that staff in restaurants just pick up your card and tap it without showing you the machine that shows how much they are tapping for. This happened again tonight. That said, the food was lovely

Whilst the food was good, no complaints there, I'd reccomend that no one with children or any mobility issues comes here. Booked a table for 5 at 7pm (so not exactly late) and informed the restaurant well in advance that one of the 5 was a child and would need a highchair. Got to the restaurant and were put on a table of 4 with a highchair in the narrow walkway used by all staff and anyone heading to the toilet. Waiters were lifting hot food over the head of our child and, whilst we were waiting to be moved, a customer kicked the highchair when walking to their table. We moved ourselves to a safer table where the chair wasn't in a walkway but it was kicked again by a waiter trying to squeeze between tables. A wheelchair user or any one with mobility issues would not be able to fit in the restaurant as we were unable to bring a pram through the front entrance. I'd say the cramped nature and amount of covers would be a fire risk were there a need to evacuate. Won't be returning and wouldn't reccomend.

Great food tonight, service and atmosphere. Lots of young diligent wait staff even though the boss said it was busy and they would be slow. Glad to say he was wrong. Had a few tapas then the beef fillet and cod as mains. Good Guinness and even better French Martinis according to Mrs!! Will definitely be back.

Worst restaurant I’ve ever experienced EVER in Belfast. Sat for over 30 mins on arrival and had to try get staff attention to order a drink and ordered starters and mains at same time. Starters arrived missing one , no apologies and tried to say we didn’t order it! I asked it mains had been ordered correctly and was assured yes…mains arrived wrong 🙈 no apology and had to ask for mine to be taken away to be kept warm . My partners arrived which was beef bourguignon but looked like tinned meat . I nearly broke tooth in my cod due to being kept warm while waiting on beef , they also had the audacity of adding on 10% service charge!! Passed on my feedback while paying and manager couldn’t gives 2 Fs , turned his back while cashing his takings! Nights out are a luxury nowadays , don’t waste your time or money on this place .

Owner wasn't very friendly and I really hate that a service charge is added onto the bill when you are paying restaurant prices to be served a meal. Wine was lovely and food ok but very salty.

Been here quite a few times and the good had always been excellent and good value. Services is friendly, quick and unobtrusive. Last visit was a very quiet January Tuesday and representative of the usual bustling atmosphere. Good Great wine offering.

Ate here tonight whilst visiting Belfast for the weekend. Myself and my husband were blown away by the food, absolutely incredible. So good that we ordered more tapas! The highlight was the pork belly. We also had halloumi, beef shortrib, calamari and chorizo croquettes. Everything was mouth watering. The waiting and bar staff were also lovely. Highly recommend!

44 Hill Street is CANS Team choice for our 🎄 dinner. It was a good and relaxing environment. We were spoilt with lots of choices. Thanks to the staff ⚕️

Otimo ristopub. Nella zona della movida Belfastiana trovate i 44 di hill street, personale gentile e competente , buone portate nel rispetto della tradizione irlandese. Ho mangiato una buona steak. Buoni anche i dolci. Ovviamente a Belfast no scegli la lasagna o la carbonara, qua si mangiano i piatti locali , fish and chips comprese.

We went for a christmas lunch and fully enjoyed our meal. Our server was extremely accomodating, friendly and helpful, giving great food advice also! Food was delicious, highly recommend the pork belly bites. Excellent food and service, will definitely be back.

Quite possibly the worst mail I’ve actually ever had in my life on Saturday, 9 December 2023. Had bree to start, frozen in the middle so had to return, second one bought out after the rest of the group had all finished their starters, again, it was frozen in the middle and had to be sent back, so I did not get a starter. Main course was turkey and ham, the stuffing was out of a packet mix, the vegetables and cooked to mush, gravy very salty. Had to send back as was literally in edible. When the bill came no amendment had been made and they had the cheek to charge £17 service. Very very very poor quality, would avoid. They also squeeze three people onto tables of two so very uncomfortable.

This place is ridiculous. Had reservation for 5:45. Had a meal for 170 pounds plus 35 pounds gratuity. Manager/owner asked us to finish our drinks at door because they had guests coming in. We went to sit at bar at 7:00pm. Table is still empty at 7:20pm. Very offended by poor hospitality. Will never return. Additionally, they added 15 pound service charge and never indicated that it was added when I gave additional 20 pounds. Definitely find them mistrustful.

A high quality dining experience with friendly and helpful staff. Well portioned meals that aren't over priced, and managed to sit a group of 8 at short notice. Best meals we had all week, and a lovely atmosphere to fine in. Would happily go back again.

Myself and my date had a reservation to eat at your establishment on Saturday evening of the 2nd December. The service wasn't 100%. I can't fault everything, but there were a few things that weren't up to standard. Firstly, we were not given water to fill up the empty tumblers already on the table. Secondly the main course was mediocre at best. On the menu, it was promised that alongside the chargrilled steak and fries that there would be extras like shallots. There were not. Instead, it was a plate of steak and chips. It tasted okay, but it was cold, and we left the majority of it behind on the plates, which were cold also. There were long waits in between courses. To consider the service and food and lack of wine in the wrong glass, amongst other complaints I don't believe we will book a table in your establishment again.

Called in with no reservation and immediately seen to. Service was excellent, food was delicious, staff were fantastic. Will definitely be back again. Had a great relaxing visit. A well deserved 5stars and looking forward to returning.

Upon recommendation, we visited this restaurant for an early Christmas dinner. When we arrived we were greeted promptly and seated immediately. The restaurant was notably cold, and had no atmosphere. The owner gave us an a la carte menu, and the Christmas special menu. Drinks order was taken pretty much immediately which was great, and then the waiter came back for the food order. We were then informed that unless the whole table were ordering from the Christmas menu then we could not order from it. We found this strange as we had originally been given the two different menus? The owner explained that the reasoning for the whole table having to eat from the one menu was that the chefs had complained about having to cook from two menus and found it confusing. However, I believe this to be a poor excuse as both menus had a lot of the same items, and the other diners were also using the Christmas menu. Meaning that the chefs were cooking for both anyway. We then ordered our starters which came out fairly quick, however they were very disappointing. The pork belly bites were very very salty and fatty and the Brie cold. The fish cake however was very nice. The mains arrived shortly after the starter, and were even more disappointing. The burger was served with an over powering relish that made the whole dish taste of smoked paprika. This was not advertised on the menu. The steak was cooked to perfection, however it was cold, and was served with mushrooms which I had already requested upon ordering to be removed. When I asked for my shallots as advertised on the menu, I was told I could not have them as they were mixed in with the mushrooms which. The skin on skinny fries were already salted, but aside from that they were tasteless. The turkey and ham dinner was anything but fresh, and contained shop bought turkey, ham and stuffing parcels. The chipotles were extremely overdone and the roast potatoes were smaller than the Brussel sprouts. For £24.50, we expected better quality. The waiter who had taken our order was very polite and friendly. What shocked us the most was how rude, abrupt and dismissive the owner was to his staff, especially in front of customers. We have another booking later in the month that we have just cancelled. Unfortunately I do not recommend and will not return.

This was the only place they could find. Upon getting there, I find that they placed us around the front area with the higher seats. With 2 elderly with a walking stick and 2 kids with us I know they’d struggle to get up on them. So I requested to have a normal lower table and seats. The waiter was kind enough and straight away got the manager, however the manager was very dismissive and asked me where my husband and my brother was who he spoke to him earlier on, and that all the available tables at the back were booked and waiting for people. He then proceeds to ignore me and went on the till to do his own thing. The whole time we were there, only a few tables got filled and the back stayed empty. Food wasn’t that great. Not going to come back. In response to the owners comment/reply to this review, I would like to clarify that 1. We were simply told there were seats available. 2. As we seen there were plenty of other seats available we asked if we could be seated at lower table to accommodate the elderly and the kids in our group. 3. I understand that we were accommodated without prior booking being in large group, but what I don’t understand is why we could not have a more suitable table and why the “bookings” could not have used the table that was given to us. 4. All of this could have been politely explained to us, but there was a definite feeling of dismissiveness from management. 5. Again these tables remained unused through out our lunch meal. So their reasoning doesn’t feel valid.

The Cote de Bouef is epic. Staff and service very good.

We waited 45 minutes before our food order was taken. Same duration before we got a drink fkr tge table. Starters and tapas were lovely. Mains were fine. We ordered 3 cheese boards for the table to finish. They were presented with undercooked garlic bread. We asked for plain bread or crackers, but none were available. Disappointing end to an average dining experience.

Restaurant was reasonably quiet. Cocktails took 25-30 mins to arrive. Water took 15 mins. Got a chickpea burger. No texture, just mush. Nice looking place though.

The place was nicely decorated, service was friendly but forgot orders on multiple occasions. The food was overcooked and definitely overpriced. I also am not quite sure why it says "contemporary french cuisine" it's more or less standard Irish food.

Went to 44 Hill Street with my girlfriend on a Tuesday evening for the 5 tapas for £20 deal. Every tapas was gorgeous and it was a great value for the Cathedral Quarter. (personal favourite for me was the Pork Belly bites) I'm still dreaming about them. then finished the meal off with the best espresso martini I've had in a long while. I highly recommend 44 Hill Street!

came here last month and have been meaning to write a review and kept forgetting, but haven’t been able to get the taste of the food out of my head. came here with my mum for a simple night out and did not regret it at all. Told the waiter about my allergens and he couldn’t be more helpful. He stood and pointed out everything on the menu that i could have. I had the pork belly bites and although portion was fairly small, it was absolutely delicious, i just wanted more and more. Had the steak for my main and i have never had such a soft steak before in the best way, it was not too chewy and just melted in my mouth. It was a quiet night and not too busy. Very cosy and food was fab. Definitely going back.

First time at this place, and it'll not be the last. Food was top-notch. Would highly recommend 👌🏻

Best evening meal we had in Belfast

We arrived to a busy restaurant- Left stood at the door for more than 10 minutes before being asked for our booking. Eventually seated . Table felt sticky, poorly cleaned. 3 of us, We ordered 2 starters 3 mains. The Brie was served cold despite supposed to be hot. Croquettes were very very small for the £ value. Here’s where it went really wrong, main 1 arrived , Not as ordered but we waited so long we just accepted it in order to eat. Main 2 arrived a solid 10 minutes after the first came. Fish dish, credit to the chef, very well presented and prepared . Main 3 arrived 5 mins after that- Steak. Pepper sauce should have been served on the side, not poured on like a soup. Despite this , the steak was nicely cooked. Bill requested- serviced charge of 10% added to a 3 person tab. Incredible. Too many good portions i lm Belfast to return tbh

Food was grand, but they brought several things over that we hadn't ordered and when we said we hadn't, they still added them to our bill (we didn't take them). We also had to ask several times for water and one or two other things.

The staff are lovely and it's a really nice place to eat. I can't actually remember what I ate! But it was in a bowl, vegetarian and delicious lol. There was a lot of choice for meat eaters.

Food was very nice, only let down by dreadful service. Weekend night, but wasn't even particularly hectic.

Absolutely amazing service, the staff are so attentive and seem like such lovely, genuine people! Cannot fault the quality of food. The pork belly bites are the best I've ever had and the beef short ribs are outstanding! Small-ish portion size but I came in starrving hungry, ordered 3 tapas plates and left very satisfied! The outside beer garden is adorable with a lot of street art to brighten up the vibe. I will 100% be a regular from here on out! Much love

Stay clear of this restaurant obnoxious manager. Did not feel welcome..... so after eventually ordering off tapas menu, the food arrived well smallest portions iv ever seen, it was only just warm.manager at no point came over to check if our food was ok. Well when manager came over to take out plates i told him i wanted compensation for terrible meal, i told him i will pay for drinks but not food, the pretentious man accused me of getting a free meal, the nerve of the man i offered to pay for my drinks but not the food. This man has no people skills and should not be managing a restaurant. 😤

Called for early supper on a Friday. This was an oasis of calm in the maelstrom of the city. We had tapas which was cooked perfectly and was super tasty. Mains were fish cakes and pork chop which were amazing. Attentive staff made the evening a great pleasure. We will be back!

Food was good - tapas is a good deal and tasty. The sharing boards are expensive for how much you get, especially the cheeseboard. Quite annoyed by the bill - “optional” service charge was added on, and the bill doesn’t show the total without it. You’d have to figure it out, but then the server rushes you into paying, and even when I questioned the price I was just asked how we were paying it. Needs to clearly say what the price is without the service charge, and remember it is optional.

Mediocre food, bad unfriendly slow service.

Stumbled upon this restaurant on our trip. Was pleasantly surprised at the quality you get for the prices. Delicious food with a good atmosphere.

The day I visited I preferred sitting out in the beer garden and having a pint or two. The staff is attentive and provide good recommendations making me feel right at home. We were so hungry and we ordered the tapas to share which was a good deal 3 tapas for £15- we got the chorizo croquettes, goats cheese croquettes & calamari. All of which didn’t disappoint. For the mains, we had a steak of fish and beef bourguignon. Both definitely worth the price. We didn’t stop there and had the dessert ! The server recommended the cheesecake which was extremely yummy! They also offer a wide range of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu would be a welcome addition for those with dietary preferences.

Food was amazing & well priced. We were a group of 5 - service was uncoordinated & for both our main & dessert one dish wasn't delivered and we have to ask more than once. Only a few 0% alcohols available & the 'nosecco' is priced the same as the prosecco. Would return as the food was delicious.

Went today with family group to celebrate my daughters graduation....loved the whole experience ....the look , atmosphere was relaxed and friendly professional staff.had tapas variety selection to start ...all enjoyed ....mains were perfect.i had the pork chop....and we finished off with desserts...sorbets are amazing....baileys cheesecake also highly recommend..perfect finish to perfect day...definately would go back again.
