1906 Lounge Bar in East Ayrshire

We went for a second visit knowing how good the food is. On this occasion we started with tempura chicken and prawn cocktails, for the mains we had haddock and steak pie. While everything about the meals were fabulous, the surprise was that chopped pineapple was in the salad in the prawn cocktail that complimented the dish

Went in for a drink, ordered 3 times, drink did not arrive within 15min. Decided to leave, waiter apologised saying it was really busy but 1/3 of the tables were empty! Poor excuse for atrocious service. Will certainly not be back. Hadn't been in for some time because the service was so poor, no improvement! The runt of the RAD group? Perhaps!

I was looking forward to a certain item on the dinner menu but when I arrived the menu had changed. This wasn't explained when I made the reservation that night before arriving. Apparently it was a new chef that's done a new menu and they haven't updated the website. So disappointed!

A very poor dining experience. I'm a local to this area and as such I'm fairly easily pleased, however the '1906' has earned this rating as sick of it being a food/ service gripe. One of the starters was completely forgotten about and required a prompt to the manager after I had finished my starter... The mains took an excessive amount of time to come out, and as such we were asked if we'd like additional drinks to disguise the wait, at that time they'd have been billed against the final charge.. One of the mains ( a salad) was missing loads of the salad ingredients... Top tips for a restaurant in 2024: Come and ask if the food is ok at the right time (basics). Don't tell a customer complaining that it's because 'it's busy' their kitchen service is very poor. Don't tell a customer complaining that it's because of 'walk-ins'. The above x2- if this is a reason, lower your prices to account for the poorer experience- simple. On a positive note- waiting staff were really nice. The duty manager was really apologetic and didn't charge for drinks and x2 starters- just get the basics correct and you don't need to..

Went for dinner, restaurant busy, which should be a good sign. No! Had to flag staff member down to order a drink. Then slow to take food order. Starter of haggis pakora, which I had ordered previously and loved. Arrived and haggis rounds halved and battered (not pakora), served with bagged lettuce and red onio, not a salad/no dressing and no pineapple salsa. Main: chicken and chorizo skewers - no skewers. 1 skewer served with rice. Thankfully, we had ordered cajun fries to share, as portion small for the price (£12.95 each). I think potentially a new chef and no one checking quality, the "salad" particularly was an issue - thick bagged lettuce. When usually it is a prepped side salad.

Just back from our 1t visit and certainly wont be our last. Food was really good and well presented AND very reasonable priced, staff were lovely so 10/10 The restaurant is lovely decor and had nice ambiance to it .

We used to eat here alot but haven't been for a while as the last few experiences haven't been good however decided to give it another try which I wish we hadn't. There was a wait to be seated as there was only 2 members of staff. Starters were good and when finished we asked for more drinks. Mains arrived and my fajitas were terrible. Was as if the vegetables had been fried in the fajita seasoning and then a breast of chicken was just cut up and sat on top of them. There was no flavour to the chicken and was pure white so obviously hadn't been fried in along with the vegetables. I also found a hard object in my chicken which I nearly swallowed. The drinks we ordered after our starters arrived when we were putting our jackets on to leave. Went to the fairburn in Mauchline last night and had a completely different experience as food and service was great. Unfortunately we won't be back.

We decided to eat here as my now deceased Mum worked in the Royal Hotel over 60 years ago so we thought it would be a nice thing to do. We didn't have a reservation and even though they were really busy we got a great table. We were warned there was a delay on the food as a funeral party had just come in and taken up 15 tables. The food was worth the wait, I has steak pie which just melted in you mouth, the braised steak and the fillet steak were equally as good. The puddings were also melt in your mouth although we did find the portions a little on the large size. Staff were friendly and efficient even though they were run off their feet. Only down side was apparently the men's toilets left a lot to be desired.

The food was okay. It was probably quantity over quality. However you certainly would not leave hungry. We shared some of the sharing plates as a starter - the haggis pakora were great. We had a variety of main courses. The loaded fries were huge.

We went for out wedding anniversary. The service was slow to start with the waitress looked like she couldnt be bothered. Our starter came and it was lovely. It all went down hill from there. Took ages for the waitress to clear the table of dirty plates etc. We waited an hour and no main course arrived. My husband went to look for the waiting staff to ask what the hold up was. Eventually the waitress came and said she forgot to tell the kitchen the starters had been cleared. Our night was ruined so we decided to call it a night and go home via farmfoods for a pizza. We can't fault the starters we had it was good. But unless they do something about the waiting staff we won't be back and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Ate here in January 2023, thought the service was slow and very poor. Decided to try it again on 20th August 2023. After a slight wait to be seated, we were asked our for our drinks which arrived shortly after. I was given a window booth, 3 times we asked if they could lower the blinds... Still waiting and not once we're we told why they couldn't be lowered. Ordered nachos for starter, and a few drinks. Starter was ment to have peri peri mayonnaise which didn't arrive, highlighted this to staff, to be fair was sorted quickly. Asked again for our drinks. Mains then came. Had to ask again for our drinks which was a pint of Tennents and a soda water and lime, eventually they arrived as my main was almost finished. Food was OK, but not once was I asked how the food was. Lovely venue, poor men's toilets, terrible staff, don't think I'll be back.

You seem to struggle to get a Sunday roast on a Sunday night in Ayrshire etc so we thought we'd try this one and booked a table (online). Front of house gentleman was very welcoming and had excellent customer care skills and went through menu changes etc. Drinks ordered and roasts soon arrived and it was very nice, with the vegetables cooked to perfection. If you are expecting a huge plate full you'd be disappointed, but you do get lovely surroundings, staff and quality food. Desserts were spot on and filled us up perfectly. Couldn't fault our visit and congratulations to the front of house and waitress - you were superb.

Amazing food, great staff, friendly and great atmosphere. I couldnt praise this place enough. Best bar in cumnock. ☆☆☆☆☆

Shocking service from this establishment. Waited just under an hour for our mains order, then it arrived in separate orders. Drinks order took 20 minutes to arrive, ruined the evening for all. Well done, I imagine there are many more restaurants that would take your custom rather than having your patience tested in this way.

I ordered garlic and chilli king prawns for a stater.. It cost £8.25 for 5 prawns and a bit toast… I fed this back to the waitress who in all fairness offered me drink in place of it… but I said no expecting it to be taken off the bill. The rest of the food was average but again… overpriced for what you get! I then went to pay the bill and was again asked how my meal was… I told them again how poor my starter was and was just told “I will feed that back to the chef” with an apology. Again, it remained in the bill. We then Went through to the bar for some drinks but couldn’t stay due to the DJ playing music so loud I started to dislike Dolly Parton! This is a welcoming bar with a good selection of food and drinks. However the proprietors need to invest in at least one more member of staff serving during the busy periods.
