The hotel is beautiful and the area is lovely. Breakfast was fine and the food overall was excellent — I couldn’t fault it. However, I was disappointed overall. Our group was split between two buildings about 15 minutes apart, and the other building was extremely hot, which made even walking through it a struggle. Our rooms were on opposite sides of the property, so we didn’t get to spend much time actually hanging out together. My room was tiny, the shower temperature couldn’t be adjusted, and part of the window fell off when I tried to use the blinds. Basic amenities I asked for weren’t provided, and drinks were overpriced. There was also a lot of banging from the kitchen during the wedding service. For the price, I expected more. I wouldn’t tell people to avoid it necessarily, but keep expectations low.

I was there today for a coffee morning with friends - everything went well until the coffee arrived. The worst coffee I’ve been served in a long time. I was not alone in my concern. Good venue, service etc. but they need to up their game as far as the coffee they serve - hot dishwater bears a close resemblance.

We got a lovely big room with bay windows. Massive and very comfy bed. Some of the furniture was in need of TLC, handles extra. The food in the restaurant was very good, if a bit expensive. £7 a pint was sticking the arm in and £8.50 for a glass of wine ridiculous. Breakfast was not that great, Soda and Potato farls hard and over cooked. Lovely hotel, just wouldn't be in a hurry to book again.

We attended a wedding here recently but couldn't hear the service due to the noise from the neighbouring conference room of large groups of people chatting. The hotel didn't have microphones for the couple or kids doing the readings, so we didn't hear much of it, despite sitting so near the front. We were surprised the hotel staff didn't manage the noise, or have any soundproofing between the two rooms. I hope the couple didn't notice and weren't upset by this. After the service, there was a lack of clear direction from the staff, who didn't show people to the wedding reception drinks and refreshments area, so most people followed others to the bar instead. The bar was down the corridor on the right, but the special section was in a conservatory space just past the hotel reception. The communal areas and gardens are lovely if the weather is good, you'll get some really good photos. There's lots of space to mingle and plenty of seating. There's no lifts here, so ask for an accessible room if stairs are a problem. There werea few maintenance issues in oir room; the shower head in our room kept tipping forward and didn't stay in place so it had to be held, but there was plenty of hot water and the shower temperature stayed constant. The bed creaked every time we moved but we only stayed one night, so it wasn't too a big issue. Bar prices were around £10 for a small 20cl prosecco bottle and £30 for 75cl bottle. It was nearly £15 a cocktail though. You can look on their website for prices; the dining menu included some drinks prices. The food at the wedding was a large roast dinner with plenty of sides - no one went hungry. The food was a bit overcooked for my preference but totally edible. The desserts were great. Breakfast was good as it was hot with decent portions and there were lots of other healthier options. There's a good bean-to-cup coffee/drinks machine at the back of the room, so go for that rather than filter coffee.

We booked for the Sunday carvery today, totally honest it was a massive let down. Super super rushed, reception staff were unnecessarily rude, we queued for quite a while for both starters and mains which is all forgivable The major issue was the food, I have had carvery from most of the big spots in ni and to be honest this was the worst. The ribs (actually just pure fatty pork belly) chicken wings and cocktail sausages were worryingly cold, the salad counter was a mess I actually couldn't believe it, the stuff was bad, totally honest it was just not good, this was at 1pm not the end of the day, turkey was so so dry and again it was only early in the sitting , the saving grace was the bits and pieces along with the main, veg, stuffing etc. Really tasty, and Dessert was actually lovely. Little gripe that they had no decaf coffee, such a big operation and I've never had an issue in any other restaurant or carvery about decaf coffee. Just lots of little let downs unfortunately.

We had the pleasure of filming our final wedding of 2024 at this stunning venue, and we were thoroughly impressed! It was our first time here, and everything exceeded expectations. The size of the main wedding bar and dining area was perfect spacious and so well laid out... From the warm welcome to the incredibly helpful and kind staff, everything about this hotel made the day seamless and enjoyable. The hotel itself was spotless, the food in the restaurant was absolutely delicious, and the beautiful grounds provided a breathtaking backdrop... Parking was hassle-l free, and the staff went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. We couldn’t recommend this hotel enough for anyone planning their special day!

We had our work Christmas party and my husband and I stayed over in a suite. Suite was overall nice but very poor water pressure and couldn’t even fill the bath. Dinner was very poor and even poorer service. Servers were rude in particular one young girl with blonde hair who I won’t name. She constantly rolled her eyes at customers. What a disgrace! We were part of a large christening party for a Sunday carvery today, we we were seated immediately and had our drinks order taken on being seated. The starters were great choices of soups and rolls, a large salad selection chicken wings, and ribs etc. The main was good typical of a carvery with selections being replenished can be hit and miss ham was great for me turkey was bit dry. Dessert was great, there was a large selection for all tastes. The staff are extremely hard working and bent over backwards to accommodate us, hats off and 5 stars for them. The hotel is beautiful and the grounds are kept immaculate. I would highly recommend.

I don't normally write bad reviews, but in this instance I feel I have too. I am disabled, in a wheelchair. I booked the carvery for my 60th birthday, I was disappointed in the choice of food that was not meat. I do like some fish but my husband was told that if he wanted the salmon he would have to up to the restaurant to get it. As he was unwilling to leave me I had to make do what else was available. As the result the only thing I enjoyed was the pudding. All this I would have accepted but when I wanted a disabled toilet, not only was it not clear where it was,but after been taken down several corridors I found that it was in a narrow corridor which had several large TVs on stands blocking the access. I managed to get in but I was unable to get out. My husband had to man handle my wheelchair out backwards. I find it surprising that such a large hotel, with several different function rooms would gave so few disabled parking spaces and only one disabled toilet. Totally ruined my 60th birthday. I will not be back.

£50 for two deserts for my two children has left a bad taste in my mouth, was told kids were not allowed to join us without paying the full £25 price despite advising that they had eaten at McD’s before hand (couldn’t force feed them a proper dinner), Rang today to complain but they didn’t offer me anything except for an apology, won’t be coming back! Won’t be getting any more money from me.

We've visited Rose Cafe many times and haev never been disappointed. They do a tasty fry, really lovely coffee and tea, and an amazing selection of homespun Sunday dinners! Highly recommended. Every time we go, we're stunned at the great value for money. The icing on the cake is the friendly owner, who shows she's glad of the business and always make us glad we dropped in.

So excited to finally go here with my daughter but the experience wasn't what I expected. For the prices there is no table service you have to order at the till. I was not advised correctly when asking about the Spanish hot chocolate. It isn't a drink it comes in a bowl for dipping biscuits in. I specifically asked was it like a normal hot chocolate you could drink and was told yes. I ordered coffee and 2 savoury pancakes. Paying by card I was asked to select what tip I wanted to leave. Feeling like I had no option I left one. Then we waited on our food. I had to go and order tea after the "drinks" arrived as the Spanish hot chocolate is not a drink and leave another tip. We waited again and after 35 minutes of waiting I asked for a refund. To be told that the food order hadn't been sent to the kitchen. We didn't have time to wait any longer. When the refund was being done they didn't ask what of your tip you would like refunded. I don't mind paying for service but we didn't get any. Can't review the food as we didn't get any of that. Won't be back. Sometimes best to stick to the places you know.

Impulse stop for lunch, based on a friend's recommendation. Very friendly, cheerful staff... small but varied choice of lunch dishes; both we had were v.good. Prices seemed to reflect the quality of service, food and settings. I'm sure we'll be back! (I've seen advert saying the business is up for sale (Jun 2022)... is that still the case?
