Very nice place to eat, quite simple menu but cooked well. I am Coeliac and it was clearly marked what I could eat

Love this place , staff could be a bit more quicker to serve and check when u finished , also had to ask for more drink , but wouldn’t hold that against them

Relaxed atmosphere, attentive service, nice food , good portions . We had a nice lunch. Will be back .

The tortiglioni was, unfortunately, the worst pasta I’ve ever tasted, and the cost of it was exorbitant. Would not recommend.

Had Christmas dinner with daughter, my only issue was and i hope they take this as a positive criticism because other than the two main course the whole experience was top notch , alas the beef was miles from being edible. And the turkey was much the same, dry . Not worth the money as my two mains went back to the kitchen minus the veg and mash. Again the staff was delightful.

A very reasonable price for two courses. Staff did not hurry us away although they did say that they needed the table back in four hours which was absolutely no problem. At this time of year the place was very busy but staff coped well with good humour. Toilets are in the basement but there is a disabled toilet on the same level as the restaurant. Private car park to the rear.

So looking forward to this meal with my friend, but not a brilliant experience. Starter was pate but did not look very appetising however got to say it was very tasty. Main course was slow cooked beef which again did not look very appetising but to my surprise again was very tasty, especially the vegetables. Sweet was Cranaghan (think that's what it was called) again was not very appetising looking and got to say it tasted like dried oats with a raspberry stick in it, couldn't taste cream or whiskey, so so dry. Wine was good and staff were pleasant enough but no one bothered to come and find out why we sent the sweet back.!!!!!! Such a shame as we were so looking forward to this meal.

Since the new menu has went out we have been twice and it's much much better. Great deals on cocktails and service is so much better. Special menu is great value. We will be back.

Just waited 90 mins for my main course, when I queried this, there was no apology and I was told it was literally being plated up. 20 mins we later gave up and left. When we went to pay for the drinks and starter we had had, only to be met at the bar by a customer aggressively arguing with my 70 year old mother, staff did nothing until I had to step in to help her. Then when he offered me out 🤣, they became interested. Not quite the family meal experience we hoped for.

The service was excellent 👌 the waitress from Manchester was superb, so friendly and lovely. Food delish too xxx

Went with my family tonight for the first time. The food was lovely we all enjoyed our main courses. The staff were lovely, the surroundings are beautiful and cosy. We will definitely be returning soon

Just spent about 2 hours in the bar area here with my husband, 2 daughters, son-in-law and 2 dogs, had a delicious 2 course meal with wine ( well us 3 females, the men were driving) will definitely be back, sooner rather than later, excellent food and service definitely worth more than 5 stars 🌟

I just wanted to give praise where it’s due, I was in on Saturday night for drinks and it was great to see a young server Holly that knew what they were doing and had a great personality.

The Urbanist very kindly welcomed our parent council meeting last night. We appeared without prior warning as we didn't have venue for our last minute meeting! The manager and staff member working couldn't have been more helpful. I'm sure this will be a perfect venue for us for future meetings. Really impressed!

This was our second time visiting The Urbanist. The first time was a disaster. We decided to give it another bash as we had heard there was new chefs (last time was over a year ago). I have to say we were not disappointed at all. Food and service was fantastic. The Urbanist also offers Bluelights discount. So a cheeky 20% off our bill also. We will definitely be back.

Popped in late afternoon thinking I would grab a quick bite while my dog was at the groomer down the road. Sat with the menu for nearly half an hour before someone came to take my order. Ended up only having time for coffee. Not sure why the service was so slow, as there was no one else there when I arrived.

My husband and I have just had a meal off the new menu and really enjoyed it. The service was second to none, not pushy, not feeling ignored, just right. Prices are not ott either, so definitely not breaking the bank. To be honest, we have had disappointing visits on a couple of occasions, so were a bit apprehensive about eating here again, but there was no need, this time it was excellent. Well done guys! ps Only one wee suggestion is to have some heavy (and maybe some stout, as we overheard this requested, remember a lot of auld yins around this area) and the new beers don't cut it. 😂Just a little niggle though! 😉

Great Meal, when we phoned up to book a table and explained we had a wheel chair with us so she sat us at a big table with plenty of room for other guests to get by. Staff were very attentive and made sure we were ok and had everything we needed throughout our visit, one of meals was lamb and it was a bit tough for my mother in law (she has problems chewing so that was our mistake and not the restaurant, the Lamb was fine for us) so we asked to change it for her for the fish and this was not a problem and it came very quickly. The fish looked very nice with big flakes of fish. Sticky toffee pudding and cheesecake to finish. With the wheel chair we used their lift which was easy to operate and assisted by the staff holding doors ope for us. Once again an Overall very enjoyable evening and top marks to the Staff for being very helpful and courteous. Will definitely return

Delicious food and service, a big shout out to Chelsea our server today who was fantastic and recommended fantastic cocktails at great value. Will definitely be back.

We have been a few times beforebut, looks like they have changed the menu, and the food was delish. I had Greek salad as starter and honestly have not tasted anything more flavourful. Katsu curry had pickled cucumber which gave it a different level. The other 2 meals were excellent also, one being a steak which was reported as great. The prices have also changed, more affordable. Will return more often.

Nice food, staff were very friendly and welcoming. We sat outside as it was nice and warm, so didn't see much of the inside. What we saw looked nice and clean though.

First impressions looked great! Went for lunch with my son, lovely table. Extremely slow service, people came in after us and received their orders first. We had to ask three times for our water, very disappointing as on first impressions we thought it would be good. Everyone deserves the same service no matter who they are.

Father's day lunch. We had a brilliant time and can only commend the staff on dealing amazingly with a difficult and challenging day. The rudeness of some patrons to the staff was a disgrace and completely uncalled for. Such people should be barred! We have nothing but good things to say about our experience and in fact having a longer wait between courses allowed us to have a good catch up, laughs and stories as a family celebrating the Fathers in our lives. The bar also had some games the kids could play as well as colouring in their menus. My recommendation to those who whinged, get off your phones and tablets and actually talk to each other! This is the second Father's day lunch we have had there as well as several other general meal visits and we love the place. Can't forget to mention the attentive staff who couldn't apologise enough for the issues out with their control and being polite and calm in the face of rude arrogant people. Thank you to all the staff, you are great at what you do and don't let these people take the shine off that.

Popped in this afternoon for lunch at 2.15,ordered food at 2.20pm and still waiting at 3pm,no one came to tell us that their were running late,paid for our 2 drinks and left,we weren't the only ones,another couple waited a hour before leaving,,that is a not acceptable and I certainly won't be back and wouldn't recommend this place.😡

Went to the urbanist earlier this evening with my son and husband. Having recently spent the guts of £600 on a baby shower, I came for fathers day / early birthday dinner. The food was ok, but the service was not. The girls were lovely & I understand it wasn’t there fault, however, 1st we were asked did we want burger & chips and Fish & chips as the chef had over cooked. I’m not a big eater but even I thought the portions were small.. I was going to have the burger anyway, so we took it. My sons meal swiftly followed. Great. Next we had someone come and say ‘I’ve no oat milk but I can give u almond’ I had no idea what he was talking about. Wrong table. Then something about deserts. Again no idea what they were taking about. Next we had another waiter bring my little boy an ice cream cone, and when he went to reach out to get it, it was taken away as the staff realised once again they had the wrong table. I looked across to the bar to see them all standing laughing. I felt quite uncomfortable and decided I wasn’t staying any longer, so I paid my bill- which no one could find, so I had to rhyme off what I’d ordered. This was the first we had been out since I’d had my recent babies, it was meant to be a birthday / Father’s Day and a nice afternoon to relax & spend with our oldest. I’m very disappointed, especially given the money spent on a baby shower and that was just me alone, not including the 33 guests that spent plenty on alcohol. Since my fb review, they limited who can comment on my post, so I’ve now left a review on every page I can comment on.

Our favourite place for going out in Kilmarnock.

Amazing food. Good portions. Car park in back. Table and chairs at front and rear. (Barbecues in the summer at the back.) Very polite and helpful staff. Wheelchair access at the rear via an elevator. I personally had a very good experience at this restaurant. (I'm going again for my family Christmas dinner. Already booked....can't wait.👍🏻😄) ADDITIONAL: Went for my Christmas Dinner. I ordered beer battered haddock with hand-cut chips. I recieved battered cod with oven chips. Waited a long time too. I will NOT be going back.

Went at lunchtime with my 6 month old. Food was great as were the cocktails. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Only me and my friend in for a meal. Not friendly no atmosphere at all. Food wasn't up to much had direah since I ate yesterday. Not a soul or staff member to be seen when we left

Had lunch with my wife and Daughter, menu was limited (Winter Menu) not what is advertised on their website. All 3 meals were poor, we will not be back!

Cancelled my 60th Birthday 11 days before event, no reason,if I hadn't contacted them by email I don't think they would have let me know. Staff were very uninterested when I went in for menus. Reading between the lines it could be closing .

Won't be back food was shocking Mac& cheese absolutely tasteless no garlic ciabatta wuth it, mexican chicken was so tough and dry difficulty cutting it. Burgers raw in bits, battered fish more batter than fish. Soup broccoli and stilton tastless. Meals were brought out with long intervals inbetween, therefore everybody was eating at different times. Very disappointing

Went for meal last night and was presented with reduced menu. Which I can understand it was quiet.We ordered 2 mains and a side. Few drinks.Mains came out could tell they had been sitting a while as barely warm our side didn’t arrive so we had to ask for it.When it did come out it was wrong side, by the time our replacement side came out we had finished our mains. Plates collected we were not asked if we wanted a desert or tea or coffee or other drinks. We waited 30 mins and finally got up and asked to pay at the bar as no one came to bother with us. I want Resteraunt to see this, other tables around us also had similar complaints it food was poor and cold. Once we paid we actually stayed in bar because we wanted a few drinks and your cocktails are really nice. But we soon left as we were only people in the place come 930pm and we could tell staff wanted us to go. (Saturday night )It’s a real shame your place is lovely and your cocktails are fab if you could address food and service customers would return but people who were there last night won’t be recommending it. We live minutes away and would be in more often if it wasn’t as bad. I have one star for the cocktails.

Unfortunately one of the worst meals we have had in a long time. We gave this place a second try after a simar experience over a year ago and it was very disappointing. Food was cold, dry and very clearly wasn't fresh.

Most expensive place in Kilmarnock that pays their staff minimum wage; and in most cases no wages cos they just sack their staff when they don't need them anymore. Charged 80 quid a head on Xmas Day, paid their staff a poultry time and half; one week later fired one of their chefs cos they "can't afford to pay them." YET THEY MADE 9K on Xmas Day alone!!!! Absolute sham of a company and sham of a management team from the top downwards. Staff who helped the company and did all they could to help this place go from barely passing EHO cos of cross contamination all over the place; to people leaving all the time and never having a stable team. Refusing to pay HOLIDAY PAY after leaving the company which is owed by law. Head chefs doing dishes on Xmas Day and during the main period... 🤣 What a farce of a badly ran organisation. I would say best of luck but, that would be being kind. I'm sure I share the same setiment that the place goes out of business as soon as possible! I'd advise all the people of Kilmarnock and surrounding areas to give your money to other thriving businesses and not to the millionaire running this joint. Blocking ppl on other platforms won't stop the people knowing that your "premium" business can't even pay its employees and the business partners it owes money!

There for a baby shower..food was nearly 1 hour late, fish was swimming in fat, some meals had parts missing and NEVER were brought to the table.. They gave 2 bottles of wine and 30% off the bill..OK if you drank wine 2 out off 10..Won't ve back

Sadly endured this place on Sunday night. The food was poor quality and the waiter had a serious issue with any criticism. To the point he was being very rude!!! ( ned like) I'm not going back and it's only 5 mins away. My £14. 50 burger was a flat dry patte with 2 small bits of lettis, 1 slice of tomatoe of which was hard and almost green. The bread bum was dry. The cheers was an additional £1.95. No thanks My parent had the chicken burger and it was burnt. End of story!!

Had my daughters 30th birthday here on Saturday night. Great venue , great staff and food was fab 👌 defo recommend.

I had a great meal and will happily return. The location is good with great parking. The restaurant was warm, welcoming and stylish. The food was incredible. At our table we had a meat eater, vegetarian and vegan. We were all delighted with the menu and what we ordered. The vegan options in particular were fantastic. They gave the choice of a meat alternative dish (burger) but also an incredibly tasty vegetable based dish (butternut squash Wellington). The service was great. Our waiter was attentive, polite, knowledgeable and friendly. We could not have asked for more. I will be returning in future.

Lovely sophisticated pub with great food and atmosphere. Dropped in today (Christmas eve) for a late breakfast with my wife , son and his girlfriend who live lonely a short walk away . We liked it so much we booked a table for four on Boxing day for an afternoon of wining and dining , in the spirit of the festive season of course.

We had booked a table for 12 people on Christmas Eve. Food was on point , as was the service. 👏

In the past few weeks my friends and I have spent the best part of £400 in this restaurant ,and every time the meal has had to be sent back .My Fiancé has food allergies which can result in her being hospitalised ,so serious is her condition , so very important that they get it right .On the last occasion, she actually wrote it down for serving staff and explained it to them in great detail ...and they still got it wrong ! I called the restaurant the next day and spoke to John the Manager ,who was unsympathetic and rather flippant to my concerns. John told me that he was going to ring me the following day That would have been Monday, 3 days later I'm waiting for closure .

Came throw from Glasgow with family of 4 as they wanted to try this place ... inside is beautiful, staff friendly but price and meal very disappointing 5 pound for a can of coke ...! Meals very small , at 7 pound for patie I would expect it to be home made ... as for fish and chips it said on the menu hand cut chips but they were frozen ones ..? And the fish batter was nothing like a fish batter no Crisp to it . Chef need to know how to service his food as it looked like it was just thrown on to the plate I did mention to the staff ... sadly I wont be back very disappointed which is a shame as it could be a great venue in the summer with the out door space

Disappointing first visit. Poor vegetarian/vegan options. Ordered the veg tempura as main to be told it doesn’t include chips - so for the price of 10.95 I was given courgette & pepper in tempura batter, totally unimaginative and quite honestly a rip off! Tempura was just ok. Had to pay another £4 for a side of “skinny fries” which were just oven chips. Other members of the group had various versions of the macaroni, all said it was bland and tasteless, including the Smokey macaroni which on the menu says it is spicy. Unfortunately won’t be back

Picked here for my birthday meal at the weekend as they used to have a lovely vegan menu - not anymore😥 poor veggie choice, expensive cocktails and my husband's steak looked like it'd fallen off the bottom of a shoe! It tasted that way too unfortunately, so got sent back. (second steak was fine. And they didn't charge us for his meal). Dessert is usually my favourite part of a meal, but I couldn't wait to get out of the place without even glancing at the dessert menu. We most definitely will not be back, which is a shame as it is a lovely venue and could be amazing if they get rid of the TVs as well! Sorry Urbanist, you used to be so much better! 😩

Service was terrible some of our party got their main meals before they got their starters. My wife found a large piece of metal in here pasta which she nearly swallowed. This looked like a piece of jewellery.

Overpriced for size of portions

Had to send my main meal back as it was cold but staff were very apologetic and returned it to the kitchen to be sorted. Had some cocktails which were lovely. The staff were very polite and looked after us well.

Don't waste your money here, waste of time

Was very much looking forward to eating here. Staff seemed more interested in the football on TV than bringing drinks order. However waiter did have pleasant manner. Food when it arrived was luke warm at best. Very disappointing and when waiter asked if we enjoyed we said "it was ok" and he realised it was not a good experienced and he asked no further. 2 stars for the decor and for friendly waiter only. Will not be returning. Pity was so looking forward to it.

Went for the first time after passing this place several times.There was four of us had drinks before reservation time and then had the starters which went down well.The mains however were rather inconsistent.I had steak pie really disappointing small amount of meat tiny pieces of veg and In my opinion frozen chips.One of us had sticky chicken and rice and left half of it as in his words he could not eat it as it was far too spicy.Did mention this to server but did not feel she was interested.The decor and plenty of staff but in my opinion the meal did not match the surroundings.

Stuart is an absolute gem 💎 he is worth more than his wages!! The bar manager David is just as good he keeps his team going!! Me & my partner had a meal in the urbanist last week. Best service you will get 8n kilmarnock for a meal!! Ultimate respect for the team we eill be back 💃💃

I visited today with my brother and son. The atmosphere is relaxed and the setting is lovely a wonderful place to dine out we had the Sunday roast all round absolutely superb plus a dessert! Friendly staff, great customer service definitely going back!Thanks 👍🏻

Friendly staff and real quality food.

Staff are attentive and surrounding was nice. The meal was pretty good by the sauce with the muscles was a bit bland, just tasting of cream. Cheese cake was really good value Popped in tonight for a couple of drinks and we had a long Island ice tea and a French Martini. The have to be some of the best ones we have ever had.

Visited for lunch today for first time, friendly welcome as soon as we entered from John. The food was lovely and good portions. The staff were all attentive making sure everything was okay with our meal. Lovely first visit.

Had a lovely dinner this evening with family, great staff who were new but very attentive, genuinely nice folk, the scallops starter was immense, the other starters , the calamari and the chicken tempura also were fabby IPA steak pie and the Sunday roasts were delicious, I had the chicken fajitas, which were nice, but i felt the salsa was very vinegary and slightly overpowering (maybe i put on too much) the eton mess deserts were just the right portion size, not too big or heavy. Unfortunately can’t comment on the sticky toffee pudding as they’d ran out.. 😢, so had the caramel sponge instead the sponge was so light and yummy. All in all we had a lovely night and will deffo be back… looking forward to trying out the breakfast menu 😉 cheers folks, sorry i forgot all your names …i’m blaming it on the gin(s)! ha

What on earth has happened to The Urbanist 🫣. I really should’ve taken heed on the many bad reviews recently, but stupid me , knowing how good it was previously, wanted to return . What a mistake !!!! On my last visit several months ago I had the chicken burger - it was amazing . Huge in size full, of flavour and onion ring to die for - TONIGHT HOWEVER - ABSOLUTELY AWFUL !!! Took ages to get our drinks ( we had to remind them 3 times ). Glasses packaged with Ice like we were having a Mr Frosty. After waiting ages , the food finally came . Absolutely awful. Burger was a 3rd of the size it used to be , over cooked and no onion ring like before. The coleslaw should not be termed coleslaw ! For the other person I was dining with, the menu stated theirs came with relish . No relish was served with it . We asked if we could have the said relish as stated on menu and had to remind them twice . The meal was half eaten by the time they brought this disgusting thing they were passing off as relish. Disgusting 🤮 Mostly very young inexperienced staff who management have obviously not taken the time to train and any of the few experienced staff standing around certainly didn’t supervise them in an way . There is obviously no one here with any hospitality skills. Such a shame that such a lovely place has gone down hill. Will never be back whilst the standards are so appallingly low .

Really good menu food was fantastic staff very friendly

Disappointed with tonight's visit. Small things like not bringing more cutlery to suit the courses. Fajitas were sizzling the first time we came and tasted so much better. Seafood course was sadly lacking in seafood. Tempura was excellent. All starters were good. We had intended on looking at the dessert menu but no-one offered it and we lost interest after 10 mins and asked for the bill instead. Won't be rushing back.

Had the best night, lovely food, great service. Location perfect with parking and outdoor seating for the nice weather. Atmosphere relaxed and staff couldn’t do enough. Definitely recommend and will be back.

First time we've been, it was quiet as it was a week day but good was lovely, really nice place to eat and staff were really friendly and helpful. Made us feel very welcome. Plenty of food to choose from and we didn't have pudding so we will definitely be back to enjoy more. We enjoyed a cocktail and a mocktail and they were willing to make anything if they had the stuff to make it. Really enjoyed it 😊

Went for dinner around 5.30pm and waited over hour to be served our food. There was another table who were there before we arrived and they had the same experience. It's not as if the place was busy - maybe 20 people in.

Took my mum out for breakfast on Saturday and it was great! We both agree that this was the best breakfast we have had in a long time! Had been before John took over as the new manager and wasn't impressed but what a difference he has made to the place! Will definitely be back!!

The food was delicious and decent portion sizes. Good choice on the menu and there is a seperate kids menu. Prices are fair for the style and quality of the dishes. Service was slow though, we went on a Sunday and it was pretty quiet but we waited quite a while for food. Felt as though there were too many staff for the amount of tables and staff were looking for things to do, meaning that they often were at tables asking the same things again and again. Perhaps there should be more people in kitchen and less waiting staff?... having said that they were very helpful and pleasant. The venue is trendy and nice atmosphere, toilets are modern and clean 👌

Don’t expect to be served anything offered on the menu. Can’t even deliver the basics they offer. Unable to serve either food or drink that is supposedly available. The days menu appears to be made up on the spot with excuses made when what was ordered wasn’t served. If you like pot luck or a surprise bag then this is the place for you. Shame as the old building is lovely and conveniently placed. Won’t be back as there are umpteen other better eateries in the locality. Hell, even McDonalds is better than this place and I’d rather bin their food than eat it. At least you get what you order though! Good luck and god speed….. try KFC

Thought we'd give this place another shot after they cancelled our booking a few weeks ago due to staff shortages. Wished we hadn't. On arrival at 3.30pm there was live music, but it was so loud it was unbearable. Ordered a rosê wine. God, it was awful. Tasted and smelled like perfume. Only one they have. Tried a Chardonnay. Tasted ok at first, but no. I had Mexican chicken which was lovely, Husband had sirloin steak but it was smaller than expected and had no onion rings as advertised on online menu, however he enjoyed it. Also we were not given or offered a steak knife until halfway through the meal. We ordered dessert. Sticky toffee pudding. Again the online menu was obviously incorrect as no Churros were on the menu given to us. It was ok, edible. The sponge just wasn't as it should be...... and square! Basically we didn't enjoy our time and it was quite expensive for what we had. Cannot fault the staff. Very pleasant. We came here when it first opened and was impressed, even though we had an issue with the undercooked food which was dealt with quickly and efficiently. I don't think we will return.

Service shocking, chicken wrap came with 2 tiny pieces if chicken. Not worth the money.

DRINKS ONLY Smart big venue. Enjoyed a Saturday afternoon in the sun here. Lots of outdoor seating both at the front and to the rear of the building. Staff I interacted with were friendly and helpful.

Dinner was lovely - the vegetable tempura is so good! Decent cocktail menu, nice wine & lovely decor. There was an incident with some spilt drinks which was dealt with in a very professional manner - great customer service.

I've been in for a drink and for lunch in the last week. Staff are friendly and efficient. Food very tasty. Recommend the Tanquaray Seville! And even better they are doggy friendly, so the furball was able to come too.

Was in for a meal on Saturday night,meal was beautiful as always but not amused with the new management not a patch on the previous one no interaction with customers or staff from what I seen just seemed to loiter at the front of the building while the wee girl behind the bar was under severe pressure with drinks and not once did he move to help any staff ,didn’t see the usual manager but if this is the replacement I won’t be back as I didn’t think much of the hospitality more interested in standing around looking pretty but takes a lot more to keep customers happy

Had a lovely lunch today - well presented and very tasty. Great service too! Will be back 😁
