The Sun Hotel & Bar in Lancaster

Lovely hotel bar and restaurant in the heart of Lancaster. We were there for a mixed business and pleasure trip and the reception and service was well balanced for both purposes. Great burger, fantastic pie, and an excellent selection of beer behind the bar. Friendly and accommodating to all of our needs. Highly recommend!

Great pub, good selection of drinks, and even better food. Good size menu, and by that, I mean on the smaller side, still a great choice of food and something for everyone. Even with a smaller menu, we still struggled with what we were going to have. We settled on a sunday roast dinner and a chicken and chorizo pie. They were both perfect, beef cooked to perfection the mash was buttery, the veg was done al dente with a nice bite. The pie was full of flavour and creamy, for dessert we had dark chocolate with pistachio icecream..again they hit it nail on the head. My only quarrel, even though the service was good, a few things seemed a miss, we ordered a side that was forgotten about, it arrived 5 minutes later, so it fine in the end. Also, the service buttons on the table we wasnt sure worked at one point as we pressed it for the bill, but no one came until we got their attention on the way past. The mens bathroom seemed to be on the dirty side, i.e the urinals, tissue on the floor, and the sink. However, i have seen a lot worse.

What a find! Staying locally for work and so glad I found the Sun Hotel & Bar. I booked a cosy room, which was definitely cosy, and fantastic value. Spotless and comfy. The bar and restaurant is lovely, with a great selection of local ales and spirits. A delicious evening meal, and a lovely varied breakfast menu for all appetites. A great spot to recharge and also work remotely if needed. Lastly, the staff are absolutely delightful and provide such a warm and seamless service. Will definitely be booking again for my next trip.

Great pub, with alcohol free beers on top. Service is always friendly and welcoming. Been a couple of times recently and tried the lunch sandwiches, fish and chips and the burger and chips. The sandwich was the worst of the lot. The burger was good, but needed a better bun. The fish and chips was great!

Booked to stay over for a night. Checked in and stayed for lunch. Fish finger sandwich X2 and triple cooked chips. Staff are brilliant - friendly, fast and efficient, very friendly and accommodating. Our room was spotless, recently redecorated and absolutely beautiful! Bed was really comfortable and no noise from the bar/restaurant downstairs. We will definitly be returning. Excellent food and drink in historic pub with great atmosphere

Good place, good beer, good food.

There are different rooms depending on what you pay. One of our rooms (the one on the top floor was the worst and smelled a lot of tobacco). The photos are of another double-suite room. Not the triple above. It is more of a bed and breakfast, since, for example, there is no elevator. At breakfast you have to choose between several options. Of course, there was no hot coffee, the coffee was not very hot and the milk is cold

This has become our favourite place to eat in the city, as the place is relaxed, dog friendly (v important) and the food is always on point. They seem to know a thing or two about beer also... Very highly recommend 👌🏻 🌟 x5

Comfortable bed and great food. Bathroom needs a deep clean.

A hotel, pub and restaurant all rolled into one. Part of the building dates back to 1760.! The food is good and the rooms are fine. There is a great choice of ales and lagers. Plus mulled wine for the festive season.

Great beers and the surf and turf platter was brilliant

I stayed in this beautiful historic hotel for three nights and had a great time. The facility and the staff are extremely welcoming, the service is excellent, the location is central and super convenient due to its proximity to the train and bus station, the breakfast and dinner were fantastic. In short, only superlative words for this hotel which manages to maintain an excellent quality-price ratio

I've been In here tonight, I'm actually still In the pub, I've had a few beers In a few pubs close by. I come In here and I've had a pint of Estrella, I was just about to leave and as I walked to the doors the heavens opened. I decided to come back In the pub for another beer where I ordered It from a table as a couple had robbed my previous seat. I ordered another pint of Estrella from this table and It took about 15 minutes to arrive at my table. I told this chap that I was just about to ask for a refund but I asked for a packet of crisps as compensation. He come back a few minutes later and told me he can't give me any crisps. A very disappointed customer.

Fantastic hotel, really vibrant and friendly with outstanding food and wonderful attentive staff that can't do enough for you.

21/09/24: dog friendly! Good selection of craft ale. We had Lancaster Brewery: Endeavour pale ale and a Somersby blackberry cider.

A proper pub with a proper Steak and Ale Pie, home cooked, don't mistake this for a pot pie it's a proper pie! We ordered at the bar, there was also an option to press a button on the table for the waiter, but l expect that was annoying for them a very busy pub. The long slow cooked lamb was to die for. The licorice panacotta with rhubarb was super tasty, l wondered why it was added to a glass rather than let it free stand wobble on its own and l soon discovered why too much gelatin, it was very stiff, the rhubarb was a strange combination as a topping and did not add much, it was was sweet and made it feel more healthy. Dog friendly. The parking was a nightmare thanks to new local council restrictions and there was a NCP car park next door but never had to Phone App and it refused to accept my payment, so l moved my car to another car park and walked can't risk getting a parking ticket. The one way system is a nightmare and I passed the pub 3 times in the rain to eventually finding a place to park near the bus station, next time l will use the bus!

Great place, good food, nice friendly atmosphere

We spent 4 days in this lovely boutique hotel. The staff were very welcoming and efficient. The room was clean with everything we needed including a large very comfortable bed. We had breakfast cooked fresh daily with a variety of choices. We also had several delicious food quality meals at reasonable prices. Portions were large! The location was perfect for getting to the castle, bus, and train station. Everything was perfect! We highly recommend the Sun for your next visit.

Food not great today so poor quality. Ciabatta just been defrosted and stuffed with fillings.... definitely gone down.

We stopped at the Sun Hotel to have some lunch after visiting the castle that was nearby. The location is excellent right in the center of Lancaster. I opted for the fish and chips.. I received one large piece of fried fish and a plate of wedged sized twice fried chips, and mushy peas, I found everything to be very bland and very greasy. I couldn’t eat the peas. I just didn’t like the texture or the flavor probably because I’m not used to something like that Perhaps I will try something different next time given the opportunity. The atmosphere is very nice nice and cozy.

Service and quality of food seem to have gone downhill. £12 for full English, The sausage and bacon are the dearest items on the list yet I was served dried over cooked up bacon! This is lazy and also unacceptable at those prices. How hard is it to cook bacon?? Plus the place wasn't even busy.

We attend The Sun regularly in a large group for brunches on Sudnays, and the staff are nothing but kind and accomodating. Great service every single time, and the best eggs benedict in Lancaster. Would recommend!

Just stopped in for a Sunday roast, it was the best roast I've had in ages. The beef was cooked to perfection and all the trimmings were amazing, especially the red cabbage. Great service all round!

Had an absolutely delightful stay in the Sun hotel and bar. Room was beautiful and immaculately clean and all the staff were extremely friendly. I even left a pair of headphones by accident upon leaving and a staff member phoned up quickly offering to post these. The little bar downstairs was lovely, we had breakfast and it was phenomenal. Brilliant place in an excellent location with very reasonable prices. I highly recommend!

Great local Beer with 10 Cask Beers

This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in. It's a beautiful old building and the bar was very lively on the Friday night I stayed. Would highly recommend. All of the staff were really lovely and welcoming...:)

We ate with friends but can't comment on the rooms as we weren't staying. Remote table service worked well, food was lovely, great value for money, highly recommended!

Excellent service in lovely surroundings. Lots of interesting facts dotted around the hotel about its history. Breakfasts were freshly cooked and delicious. The room we were in was compact, apparently the smallest in the hotel, but the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was spotlessly clean and well laid out. The staff were all helpful and we were offered a glimpse of the (unoccupied!) larger rooms which were amazing. The only issue is parking as it was difficult to park nearby. Luckily, we were able to leave our car elsewhere and taxi back to the hotel which was very inexpensive. If you're in Lancaster, The Sun Hotel and Bar is well worth a visit.

A historic building in Lancaster town centre. Fair size double bedroom, extremely comfortable bed, spotless everywhere you looked at. The pub was lively, not noisy, even though it was Thursday. Beer was decently priced (compared to london). Good background music, attentive staff.... a jewel. I'll book next visit.

Never stayed here so can only comment on food & drink offering. Not the cheapest pub in town but quality beers, wines & spirits. Good selection of cask ales although biased towards Lancaster Brewery. Decent selection of food on offer, well prepared and good quality. Who serves garden peas with Fish & Chips. Gotta be mushy peas, this is Lancashire guys!!

Nice location in Lancaster. Stopped over 1 night. Rooms excellent , good selection ales,beers & lagers my tipple was £5.75 (?) a pint don’t know if that is the going rate for lancaster ? Never had dinner but the menu looked very nice and competitively prices. Had breakfast in the morning ( £12 ?) arrived for breakfast at 7:30 and full english was served @ 8:15. Appreciate all cooked from fresh and was lovely. Next time I stay ( and i will ) i would look to pre order breakfast for a swifter service
