Driving back from Edinburgh & stopped in Biggar for a spot of lunch. Sells, coffee, soups sandwiches & has deli counter. Stay in or take away. We ate in & had a lovely coffee, quiche salad, which was delicious. Lots of lovely speciality deli things for sale. Also bought some of the local gin. Although limited seating it is a very relaxed place with a good atmosphere & local feel to it.

This place is an absolute gem on a Scottish high street with several rather interesting places to look at. Parking is plentiful and this encourages engagement with the local businesses. Service at The Olive Tree was prompt, friendly and accurate. The food was superb. We had a charcuterie plate for two with excellent meats and well chosen cheeses as well as generous accompaniments. All this was provided at a very reasonable price. If you are travelling to Edinburgh from the north west of England and had not thought about the A702, you're going to need a fresh look at your satnav. On that itinerary you should allow time for refreshments or, better still, lunch at this excellent deli. You won't regret it.

Returning to Lancashire from East Lothian via Biggar is not the most direct route. However I had recalled a nice little café from when I passed through in 2013 and when I arrived this time recognised the Olive Tree as the one I remembered. We timed it well nabbing one of the 2 or 3 small tables. The gentleman who appeared to be the proprietor nipped out from behind the counter to take our order which was a nice surprise and quickly dished up some excellent sandwiches and toasties - not overblown with loads of salad nobody asked for as you sometimes get, and not overpriced, but just really tasty with plenty of filling. The cakes were too good to resist as well, and difficult to choose from the large selection. Excellent coffee capped it all off nicely. Lots of folk were buying takeaway sandwiches while we were there as well. The staff were friendly and the owner was very personable, advising us on how to store some fresh honeycomb we were buying. The shop is full of tempting food so be warned you will do well to resist buying something! I'll be stopping by sooner than 5 years next time I hope.

having stopped off for some what i thought would be a nice rest with my children, how wrong could i have been, apparently i upset a few customers because my children where being not being as quiet as they shoud, i thought this was a place to go and eat cake not sit and read a book, the assistant behind the the counter was the most arrogant and impolite person, sadly i will not be going there again and i will be telling my friends and family to do the same. shame on you.

if you want rude service, rude insults, a lecture if your children behave in anything other than a victorian manner, where you are told this place is not a Kindergarten and if you think so you have come to the wrong place and I've lost two customers because of them, when in fact the children were sitting playing quietly for much of the time, and just a simple 'excuse me could you ask your children to sit down and move away from the counter' (where they were looking quietly at stuff) then this is your place. The man has no customer service skills whatsoever. I've been there lots of times before with and without children but I've never had such awful rude lectures from someone that were totally uncalled for. Go to Aroma - you'll get better welcome there, go to Biggar flavour for your deli stuff, you won't get looked down at. Deserves no custom whatsoever.
