The Mustard Seed in Ballymena

Family of 4 - 2 adults / 2 kids. Very welcoming & able to accommodate on what was a clearly busy Easter Sunday. Lovely setting looking across the river. Menu is based on set 2 courses (starter & main), but there was a good choice (although think main / dessert should be an option as this is a preferred for some). Kids menu has good options too. Good specials. Only downside is that they had run out of pasta, which seems a strange thing to run out of! However, they were very accommodating with our 2nd choice option. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Just wow! These were the best meals and service we’ve had since we arrived in Scotland. Catriana was warm and friendly, attentive and helpful with recommendations. We had the lunch special which was two courses for £16 plus a £4 supplement for the beef steak and the lamb. Still the best value meal in Scotland so far. The red wine was delicious too! Highly recommend! Funky building and decor too.

What can I say? It was my partner's 60th birthday and despite being fully booked according to the website, after a phone call to them they were able to fit us in. So glad they did. They were amazing. There were at least two large parties and they were rushed off their feet, but they were so very attentive. Very friendly and smiling, nothing is too much bother for them. All the staff were brilliant, and Steph went above and beyond. And the food... well. Just absolutely amazing. I think I can honestly say I've never eaten better. If Michelin gave ten stars, this deserves eleven. If you're planning a trip to Inverness, make sure you book a table in plenty of time. You won't regret it.

Delicious food, great service and a nice atmosphere. Ate there last year when visiting Inverness and returned this year. Didn’t disappoint. Make a reservation!

We enjoyed our lunch tremendously: the food was prepared by a chef who knows what s/he is doing and presented beautifully. The staff took good care of us. Zuza and Sophia (on her very first day at the restaurant) were attentive, friendly and professional! Highly recommended!

Had dinner during our visit to Inverness. The food was excellent. We both had the salmon for our main, husband had the bruschetta which had a wonderful mix of flavors. I had the side salad which was way more than a salad and had a marvelous dressing. The service was not great. The servers were busy and spent very little time helping us. I would probably return for the food.

First of all attractive restaurant and location. Hostess very upbeat. Food was very good- as were the cocktails! we went early and opted for “ early menu” - make sure you notice last page of menu as not announced by staff. I made the reservation a couple of months ago and was seated at the “ off shoot” cafe space near the front - awful seating - absolutely - clarify a window seat in main dining room with reservation! It is a busy place . Again food very good- now service. Whoa- felt like we were on Candid camera! The young waitress was fully inadequate and untrained- it had to become funny because it was so ridiculous- abrupt , ask for a bottle of water- nope tap, ask to have a cocktail first before ordering - didn’t get it at all- the tussle of slamming around the large menu board in the small space could have created an injury to anyone! Getting the check was another debacle. Something else!

This restaurant was recommended to us by our cab driver while we were visiting Inverness and it was a great recommendation. The food and service were excellent and it was a great value and in a nice location in downtown Inverness near the river. Would highly recommend!

To my mind a two course menu which is cheaper than going flat out a La carte in a place you’ve never visited before makes sense. So why doesn’t the kitchen/management see this? This should be viewed as a platform to showcase your capabilities with the expectation that these people will recommend and return going a La carte if you get it right. Unfortunately tonight’s experience was a never to return one. Luke warm soup, with the waiter saying oh you like your soup hot! Well unless it’s gazpacho. Smoked haddock tart that was dry as and had a lovely charcoal finish to the pastry. Och I’m not going to continue with the food but to say that the mains were mediocre. The service was great and couldn’t be faulted, but let’s be honest here if you are a pretty competent home cook and know your stuff you’ll be disappointed, and there’s better places I’m sure to go to in this lovely city.

Fabulous restaurant amazing service brilliant atmosphere and lovely food! Wine was really good and we were not limited to ordering house wine as could order 175, 250 or 500ml this was perfect as I love a Pinot Noir and in most places can only get a full bottle which I never want. You have to try this place, it's just so natural, everything about it, they care about what they do there, the manager has been there over 20 years and she is passionate which clearly cascades down the way and impacts the whole ambience and experience. Restaurants are ten a penny these days and the service sometimes suffers because of this, but not at this place, we would love to pick this place up and place it close to home in Angus. this place and the people working here deserve 6 stars ❤️

My wife and I booked a table mid week as we were staying in Inverness. I am a Coeliac and I saw that all the Gluten Free options were marked up on the menu with a few options available for each course. The meal was lovely and we both enjoyed it. My only small and it is a minor point is that, like many restaurants that offer Gluten Free dining, they do not do Gluten Free Beer, as I say this is very minor and overall we enjoyed our dining experience. Visited this restaurant tonight, a very warm ,friendly welcome from Christine and all her staff. The service was excellent and attention to detail was superb. We were recommended this restaurant by a colleague. We were probably spoiled by the fact that we’d eaten at Rocpool the previous evening, but food quality aside, (and while well cooked, the food was tasteless), the evening was summed up by two incidents. One, bearing in mind we are in the middle of a pandemic, the barman at one point, while shaking a cocktail mixer, had the strainer in his mouth for around 30 seconds before proceeding to pour the drink!Shortly thereafter, the manager? (well he was wearing a suit), came back to the bar and decanted about one inch of red wine from a mini jug back into a wine bottle.After waiting 15 minutes for the bill, and a further 20 minutes for someone to come and offer to take payment, my wife and I left and paid at the door. I approached the “manager” to complain. He could not have been less interested in either issue, and wished me a Good Night. With reciprocal integrity, I’d now like to say to him…….See you soon!

In an interesting setting, the food on offer was fresh, healthy and distinctive. Good choice for me as a vegetarian and staff helpful to ensure food matched expectations.

Six of us touring Scotland. Would The Mustard Seed live up to the reviews? It exceeded them. Lovely spacious surroundings, great atmosphere overlooking the river. Brilliant friendly staff who really cared. I could not help thinking, "Is this the best steak I have ever had. Yes, I think it is!" All of us thought the food and experience was five star plus. That includes the fish lovers and the meat lovers. You must book ahead. Totally recommended. Best meal of the holiday. Best meal of the year!

I booked this restaurant for Dinner, with my husband and daughter. From the welcome at the door I could not fault anything. Sitting looking over River Ness upstairs was fab. Our waitress (sorry no name but from Madrid Spain was fab. Recommended wine to go with the food and was lovely. The starters spring rolls were amazing and so was the venison and chicken dishes. Deserts were amazing. Would definitely recommend booking this restaurant as it seems very popular.

We had eaten here before a few years ago and really enjoyed it so booked again when we knew we were going to be back in Inverness.The restaurant was busy and had a good atmosphere on a Thursday night but food was a bit disappointing. My scallops and black pudding starter was a bit dry but salmon dish with thai broth was nicer.My wife had a chicken dish which she said was just ok.We were about 20 minutes late for our booking and had tried to call to let restuarant know but no one answered and front of house were a bit sniffy about us being late.
