The Manchurian | Dim Sum Restaurant 翠竹軒 in Dundee City

The dishes are completely unexpectedly delicious, especially the Baihua Stuffed Large Intestine, which has good taste and heat, and the price is very affordable. No wonder there are many foreigners coming here.

Fabulous authentic Hong Kong Chinese restaurant 😋 Great choice of food all arrived piping hot. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Dining room was spacious and busy however it still felt intimate.

We have been here several times for lunch and twice for dinner. Dimsum at lunch is pretty good, but dishes at dinner are disappointing. The first time we were here for dinner, we thought maybe the chef wasn't in a good mood. But the second time, we gave up. Especially, never ever try wonton noodle soup. Ho fun is below average. So to be fair: 4 stars for lunch and 2 stars for dinner. That's why it gets 3 stars from me. We will come back for dimsum at lunch only.

Authentic Hong Kong quality cooking, clean and nice environment, and friendly staff

I absolutely love Chinese cuisine and this is by far the worst quality you could get in the UK. The food quality is very poor, somewhere between school food and hospital food. The price is extremely high, 20£ for a small portion. Also if you don't like the dish and didn't eat it, they still make you pay for it. Had 2 dishes and rice, paid 55£. The experience is not over after you leave, you get some digestive issues. Bring here people you hate. Not coming back.

Excellent Cantonese food. The food here is so delicious and they make their Chinese roast pork from scratch. Service is really friendly and attentive. Would return in a heart beat!

Quite authentic Hong Kong food!

I am disable, the restaurant is on the first floor, elevetor out of order. When I arrived at the first floor a nice lady told me that the restaurant was closed because there was a privat party, why they didn't put a sign at the ground floor with the information about closed for a private party? Thanks so much.

Our daughter had eaten here a few weeks ago with her friends, and wanted to go back for her birthday meal. So, my wife and I told her to book it. When she did, she checked if their lift was working, because my wife is disabled and uses a wheelchair. Turned out it was still broken, and they admitted it had been for a couple of years. OK, my wife said she'd cope with the stairs on her crutches since it was our daughter's birthday. It took some effort but she made it. The restaurant itself couldn't be described as cosy. The lighting was a bit harsh, but I guess it was functional. They also served take-away orders from the bar inside the restaurant itself, which meant a regular stream of take-away customers through the entrance, which did little for the ambiance. It also let cold air flow in more frequently than was comfortable. We ordered chicken and char siu steamed dumplings to start, which were delicious. My daughter had chicken in wine (on the bone), my wife had sweet chilli shredded chicken and I had chicken with green pepper and black bean sauce. All the food was tasty (we had some of each others), we enjoyed it, and the service was decent. Once we'd finished, my wife needed to visit the toilet before we left and asked where the disabled toilet was. This is where the night was a little spoiled, due to various issues with access and cleanliness, which I've written more about in the wheelchair accessibility section. With tip, we paid just over £90. Value for money? Well, probably not. Would we go back? Possibly, but only if they fix the accessibility issues.

We ordered two types of dumplings, flat noodles with beef, tofu with minced beef, and green vegetables. My husband and I both got diarrhea. Mine not so bad, but husband is still suffering 24 hours later.

Outstanding Dim Sum, all made to order so it takes a little time. Nice people, very busy on Sunday afternoon but they fitted me in.

The best food in Dundee, without a doubt. The Ho Fun and the sweet and sour chicken were just perfect, and the dim sum a true delight. The servers were very kind and serviable and everything went on perfectly. I truly recommend this place. A real must!

My family and I decided to try this restaurant for a late dinner on a Tuesday evening. We order few dim sum dishes, a large soup to share, three main dishes and a side dish. Everything was delicious and each dish had a different flavor profile. You could tell the quality and freshness of the ingredients. We had a wonderful meal and since there were only three tables besides us, service was excellent. Sandie is an amazing host and Rubi a great waiter! Next time we are in town will definitely visit the restaurant.

Very unpalatable. As someone who has been eating Cantonese food since childhood, it is not only not authentic but also very unpalatable. The price is high for the quantity. Every dish is greasy and I had diarrhea after eating it. If you hate someone in your life, please bring him here. It is very unpalatable. Fantastic dim sum! Could not recommend enough!

After reading so many positive reviews I decided to try it out. And... this place isn't for everybody. Menu is designed for sharing, ideally in a group of people. Restaurant floor is very loud, sound echoes from the plain walls and marble floors. Staff tries to be way too attending and keeps on asking if everything is all right every two minutes despite multiple "leave me alone style" answers that yes. Introvert's hell! Food I've had was tasty but not worth the price, the portion was barely enough for one person for over 20£. Even rice was scarce. It was takeaway quality, so I won't be coming back.

Authentic Chinese food. Great service. I had a Claypot Aubergine dish (鱼香茄子）and my partner had sweet & sour chicken and prawn toast. I think I make better prawn toast at home 😝 .. but the food is pretty good when I'm away from home.

Came across this restaurant by sheer chance in a quiet street and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. Friendly happy staff. Food was absolutely beautiful. Would highly recommend a visit. On evening we dined the lift was out of order. May be advisable to contact restaurant if you require its use as restaurant is on first floor.

Travelled through from perth after hearing rave reviews and wasn't disappointed,, made to feel welcome from the staff from the moment I parked my skoda fabia in the car park ,,, had the hot and sour soup to start my girlfriend had the king prawn dim sum was phenomenal and the Thai chilli beef and satay chicken genuinely couldn't fault it ,, I felt the prices were totally fair can't wait to go back an absolute treat for the taste buds

Update: a change in management has done wonders. The food is now top notch and service more friendly and a bit faster. They seem more organized as well. Yay! 3 stars The food is decent, the service can be slow and indifferent. More than once I’ve come for dim sum, ordered something and an hour and a half later been told they’d run out upon enquiring where the order was. An hour and a half later AND a shrug.

We went to dinner and without a doubt everything was delicious but what would stand out the most would be the beef soup with noodles, the waiters were very friendly.

I am so disappointed that I haven’t heard of this place sooner! Dundee is really lacking in any Chinese restaurants never mind one of such high quality! We were all blown away by the flavours. Top quality food will definitely be back.

First time visiting after it being recommended by others. I visited for my birthday with my parents and wife and enjoyed an incredible meal. The food was fantastic (especially the char siu pork and aromatic duck), the service outstanding and the value for money was great. I'll definitely visit again.

After going up one floor, You will be assigned to a table at the entrance. Parking time in your own parking space is 2 hours after you have registered at the entrance. A menu with a wealth of dishes and desserts is presented. You have to bring some time with you because the food is fresh be prepared. The four of us ordered different things and we all enjoyed them

Excellent food and a great choice, I'm afraid the service was pretty slow , there were only 2 servers and the restaurant was very busy.The restaurant had only opened that evening after chinese new year and it was rather chilly sitting and I had to sit with my coat over my shoulders.Will return again.

Came here on CNY by accident. Was pleasantly surprised by the food and service. The family had a lovely time and enjoyed every item we ordered. We arrived at the end of their service time but we never felt rushed. The service team was friendly and kind. Thank you for looking after us!

This is easily the best Chinese in Dundee the food is excellent, we had the crispy shredded beef which was some of the best I have ever had, chicken dumplings which were ok nothing special, sweet and sour again excellent.... I found the meal to be very good but expensive.

By far the best meal I've ever had in Dundee. I work up here a lot and haven't been impressed with other restaurants but I've now found my new favourite. The food is wow so good, full of flavour, cooked perfect and great portion sizes. All the staff are nice and we had a really good chat and a laugh with the owner. Totally enjoyed it and will definitely be returning.

We hadn't been in a while, but they still have the special, more authentic part of the menu. I tried what they call their KFC, which was really crunchy deep-fried chicken on the bone with loads of chilli and Sichuan peppercorns and leeks. My OH had the 2 roast with fried noodles - pork belly and duck. They also have a good dim sum menu. The service is still brilliant as well. The only thing is that it's quite pricey.

Getting a 5 star rating as it's by far the most authentic Chinese food you can get in the region. Staff was friendly and helpful, uncle came for a short chat even though it was quite busy. The restaurant's atmosphere is exactly what you expect as well. We tried some of their dim sum menu which tasted freshly made. Their regular dishes that came out of the kitchen look good too.

Best Chinese food for miles around. Dim sum and other food styles made and cooked to order. There is a British menu AND a traditional Chinese menu. Highly recommended that you try the latter.

Very tasty food, next time I will order little spicy. Variety of selection. Friendly staff and one guy offered our son a mango pudding to enjoy at home complimentary. Nice ambient but little overcrowded, again meaning food worth for price but wish the floor was more spacious as well as the table. Overall wonderful experience. 5 of us had a good time.

I've visited this Chinese restaurant multiple times when I'm in the mood for some delicious Asian cuisine, and I've always had a good experience here. The restaurant offers a reasonable variety of dim sum, although the portions can be quite small and slightly pricy compared to other dim sum places I've been to. However, one standout dish for me is definitely the seafood crispy noodles - I always make sure to order this dish when I visit. The noodles are crispy and well-cooked, and the seafood is always fresh and flavorful. I also tried the beef noodles, which had a really fragrant broth that was full of flavor. The broth was rich and savory, and the beef was cooked to perfection. The three roast fried noodles were okay, although the meat wasn't the freshest and could have been better. Another dish that really impressed me was the XO seafood udon. The dish had just the right amount of spice and the seafood was cooked to perfection. The udon noodles were also perfectly cooked and had a great texture. Overall, this Chinese restaurant is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for some delicious Asian cuisine. While some dishes can be slightly pricy for the portion size, the seafood crispy noodles and XO seafood udon are definitely worth trying.

Dim sum is not too bad. DO NOT ORDER beef I’m chili oil. Horrible with no taste and looks like beef had No quality of life before it died.

A shady restaurant blackmailing people for money! The price of the dim sum shown on the menu was 4.9 pounds each but in the bill it charged us 6.0 each. we ordered 3 dim sums which means we were overcharged more than 3 pounds. When we asked at the front desk why this is the case, we were told that they had mistakenly given us the lunch menu and explained that the price for the same dish would rise in the evening. this is nonsense and we were not informed anything about this when we ordered food. In addition, the serving is too slow (we stayed there almost for 2 hours) , the main dish we ordered came with such small portions, and the price is unreasonable: it cost nearly 50 pounds for two normal people to barely feel full. Also, the main dish tastes not authentic at all. strongly not recommend！

Cash only but given the conversation with the manager fully understandable with the charges the bank want to charge but as for the food it was brilliant The service the food the staff were brilliant and remember we have to travel 60 miles from West Lothian it has to be good to go back if it’s not excellent value with high quality food Try the curry sauce I just love it HIGHLY RECOMMEND AND BRILLIANT VALUE

Considering the limited supply of fresh Chinese food source, the quality and taste of the dishes we had were definitely one of the best in this region. Service was very good too. Will find an opportunity to go back to try a full dim sum lunch one day. Highly recommended for those who crave for Chinese food in the area.

Can’t fault this place high enough. Was given a wrong order told the waiters about it and dish was taken away without given us any apologies and when we got the bill the incorrect dish was on the bill along side extra charges for drinks that we hadn’t even got from them… to end up with the the waiter arguing with me In front of the entire restaurant then offering to take me downstairs for a fight…. Appalling service and attitude myself and young children and family received. Highly NOT recommended!!! Won’t be going back there in a hurry as we were all left traumatised from the experience! Waiter called himself DAVID.!

Great menu ,superb food fast and friendly service . Highlights were the Crispy sticky beef and the King Prawns in Manchurian sauce ,Chicken and Cashew Nut with a tasty Vegetable Chow mein . We will be back
