An amazing lunch today at malt shovel ❤️ Lisa made our visit extra special, she was so helpful and friendly!!

This is my first time visiting stone house carvery .The food was really awesome. I loved it as well as my pudding. Liz was awesome she really attended to us well. Chef Ellie and Sarah made a really sumptuous meal and I enjoyed myself.i would recommend the stone house to anyone and would also love to visit some other time .

Lived in Great Barr and used this pub a lot, used to take my mom always a lovely carvery hot, tasty and plenty, good value for money. This time however we placed our order at about 5.20 bit at 7pm still no burgers, went to the bar several times and was told our order was next… in the end I was so hungry I ended up having to be rude to the lady behind the bar and she gave us a refund, and some carvery food. It was just a burger we ordered not a banquet. I understand they were short staffed, and the poor girl doing the cooking should never have been put under such pressure I felt so sorry for her, she was lovely. Anyway alls well that end well.

3rd year running we have been for Christmas Dinner it was throughly enjoyable food was great service was great bar staff was great the lemon merguie rulard was amazing 10/10

Lovely hot food. Jack, Lisa and Ellen (kitchen manager) were brilliant. Quick service. Couldn't fault anything.

Lisa totally looked after us all . Nothing was too much trouble . I was with my family and everyone felt happy and relaxed . We were all very happy . Thank you .

I never felt so comfortable in a carvery as I was today due to a lovley lady name lisa and the new kitchen manager Ellie I will definitely be coming again if they are here the food was amazing it always while Ellie is on shift and the service of lisa she looks after all your needs they carnt do enough well done girls

Food dry and not very tasty. Not worth the money.

Having spent £100s in this pub over the past year, endured dirty cutlery, a 10 minute wait for bar staff to appear, dry vegetables, rotten windows, a damp smell in the bar area, a carvery with no turkey, bar staff messing up the order, the icing on the cake tonight was I genuinely forgot my wallet to pay for 1 glass of pepsi and the manager perched on the edge of the bar refused to allow me the benefit of the doubt to pay in the morning. They've seen me numerous times, I'm (was) a regular and the couldn't even note my name and address or car registration number as insurance or something. It proves the current management doesn't value the customer or the quality of their experience, but purely the balance sheet. I know businesses are there to make money, but I've been in The Malt House in Birmingham, that was cash only due to a faulty card reader system and the kind barman offered to buy my drink!!! I refused and went on a track to a cash point. Well done Malt Shovel, you have lost a(nother) customer. Nice one. 👍

We had a lovely Christmas experience this morning. Lisa was extremely helpful, and accommodating. Santa (Liam) was great! The kids loved it. Thank you

Booked with our nhs colleges for breakfast 3 months in advance. They have just rang us and canceled our christmas booking this is the second year they have cancelled with the same excuse . They are not fully booked for breakfast as there Web site says ,they are closed. Please don't waste your time as they will cancel your booked at the last minute.

We went there for food at 7pm and they had stopped serving. Looks like they may have new times for serving food (see pic) You might want to phone ahead to check if you are going for the carvery after 7pm. If the owners read this review can you confirm?

It was closed!!! Re booked next day and was closed again. 2 wasted journeys..

No one greeted us when we arrived and when we asked a staff member we were told to just pick a table. Queued for the carvery and when I got to the top of the queue, I was told I needed a ticket and to go to the bar to pay first . When I went to the bar to order, I was told they did not have any mashed potatoes or roast potatoes. I also noticed a group of people waiting for gravy for quite some time. We ended up leaving because who wants a roast with no potatoes?

Need to spread the tables out better, can't sit down with chairs pushed against you from the tables adjacent. There is room for them to be spaced apart more, This needs to be addressed as its quite simple to, to be honest. me and my companions are pensioners, so its quite frustrating.

Do not rely on this place for a booking. 4 times in the last 3 weeks they've let me and my family down. I have booked a table and they send you a text 30 minutes prior to your booking cancelling it, no explanation. You have to ring up to find out they've ran out of meat!! I could understand this at 8 o'clock, but at 3pm and 6pm!! The management haven't got a clue. Won't be using this place again until the management has changed. Sad because it used to be a well run place.

The food was horrible plus got their for meal for brother birthday we went their for carvary wasn't on wasnt told till we got their terrible plus pub cold as well

Emma and Ethan are always lovely and deliver fantastic service time after time always enjoy our time when they are behind the bar Tried the new sharer menu . We had cheddar & jalapeno donuts, crispy tempura prawns and potato tots. All tasted delicious. Good food. Good service and lovely friendly staff.

Been few times but food not so good as used to be. No winter roasted veg or sprouts broc cabbage very basic and could have been warmer

The food is delicious, in fact it's faultless. My husband and I visit regularly for the Sunday roast dinner. The staff are friendly and helpful even when busy. I wish Mitchells & Butlers would refurbish the premises as it is in dire need of a refresh. Such a shame the company have ignored the interior. Other than that the Malt Shovel deserves 5 stars.

Tables were dirty, tired decor and the food was not good. Staff were helpful but I would not go there again! Overall disappointing!!

Always a friendly welcome from Eithan, Emma, and all staff. We are greeted by name and they know our drinks. That's what I call a local cosy pub.

Not the best to be fair, 30 minute's in the Q and 1 chef serving. The food was tasty and the staff are freindly and professional.

Food was terrible, we arrived at 3.30 yesterday The meat was nice gammon and turkey. The vegetables looked extremely dry and tasted awful. The carrots were watery the roast potatoes were hard, the mash had a dry skin over it. I would have preferred the server to have advised us to select other food from menu. Didn’t seem to be bothered with what they were serving. Won’t be eating there again, disappointed

Went with my family today for lunch, i cant say anything good about the whole experience. I have had some poor Carveries but this was the worst, choice of veg very poor the mash was packet dried mash and the gravy was like water and tasteless in-fact the whole meal was tasteless, my son and daughter-in-law had pizza and they could not eat it.

Came here yesterday for a birthday celebration, food was fantastic as always, carvery was hot and fresh. The lady behind the bar and the lady carving were so pleasant and friendly.

Had my first carvery here at the age of 18.Still the only place I go for a carvery at the age of 57 tells you everything.First class food and service with a smile.

The food is massively disappointing. I ordered the fish & chips & it lacked any kind of flavour. It tasted very much like it came out of the freezer, so a total waste of money. I've also had a carvery from here before & again lacked flavour & very basic. Staff are lovely though. Very polite & chatty & the place is clean & tidy.

Our waitresses today were Lisa, and she was a lovely lady and loved and was happy to serve us and always in a positive mood. The food was freshly made, and the atmosphere was perfect, no loud noise through this experience, and all in total was absolutely amazing for everything

Delicious food, however, long queue at carvery counter and an extremely slow lady carving and serving the meat. Due to mobility issues, I was very uncomfortable standing, waiting for so long.

Just had a sandwich for lunch. Turkey, stuffing with cranberry sauce with a roast potato side. Staff pleasant. Not too busy.

Ethan one of the bar staff- very friendly, approachable, goes above and beyond for us when we’re there. Always 5* service.

Barman was lovely, friendly and welcoming. Person serving the carvery had a seemingly 'couldn't care less' attitude, no pleasantries, just "Yorkshire?" "What Meats?" that's it just the bare bones. The food was okay in general apart from the roasters which were overcooked and kept heated for far too long. Only one lot of gravy which both the eating in customers and the take out customers were waiting around without any sort of order, we were left to our own devices to who got gravy first. The salt pot was blocked and very grubby. Knives and forks were clean as was the table. Perhaps needs a little make over and Gordon Ramsey to spread a little happiness.

Wonderful food and service. There was one lovely lady who took all our orders; she was so helpful and really does deserve some credit. Absolutely amazing service and quality. Definitely giving her a tip! She was wearing a white blouse with black hearts and green trousers. We came here of a family of five, not so hungry. She was so kind and knew the menu so well but we ended up having 5 Sunday roasts and desserts and a bottle of wine. Will definitely come back here again.

The only establishment for all types of meetings, the food is out of this world with an abundance of options for all, a must for families, couples and meetings... ps dogs welcome with open arms... in the bar area

the malt shovel staff are very rude inc. one lady with the blonde hair that was really angry swearing and she was shouting loudly also abusivly to my mom who only complained about my food being done very poorly. and my mom was falsely accused of throwing a plate at the lady on duty but my mom did no such thing and the manager is a disgrace to his profession and sided with the horrible woman who was mean to us she was also giving us dirty looks and sciving on the job chatting to the elderly and we got no apoligies also want to meantion that the atmosphere there is appauling i will never ever go to this pub and etery again. it felt like a public WITCHHUNT.

We frequently come to the Malt Shovel with my Mum. It is always a pleasure to come here. Lisa and Josh are so welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble, even though it was quite busy. The carvery was delicious and the desserts hit the spot!

Ordered 2 carveries for delivery. I was very disappointed when it arrived. Roast potatoes burnt to a crisp and hard and tough. Stuffing burnt on top and look as though it was left overs from the day before, and dry overcooked Turkey. Absolutely appalling!!! There is no way this food was freshly done today. I even ordered it at 11.45am thinking great the food would be freshly done as they would have just finished serving breakfast. Disgusting!! I'm sorry I can't post a picture to prove my point.

Booked our daughters 9th Birthday pizza baking party at this venue. Wasn't sure how it was going to plan out as 1st time for everything, but as soon as we walked in, we was greeted by Lisa and she quickly put us as ease and took over the event. Everything went to plan and the kids had a lovely time creating their own fresh pizzas with all there favourite toppings. Lisa was very calm and helpful all along the way. Definitely recommend this event for anyone thinking about doing something different. Many thanks Malt Shovel and especially Lisa.

Went here with my family for father's day lunch. our time slot was 12 noon. I am disabled, walk with sticks and find standing and distances to walk painful Had to walk from table back into bar to order and pay and then walk back to table was unexpected. maybe a till to pay in dinning room would be handy. we then queued up for carvary which then didn't start serving until 12.20. too long without apologises.

Returned on Sunday to have carvery lunch with family. Food was nice and hot and if good standard. We were again served by the delightful young woman Laura. She remembered our family from our last visit and was very friendly and effecient. Laura is an asset to this family restaurant. We hope to return again soon
