A lovely lady providing very good food at an excellent price. The porridge on offer was an added bonus. This place is well worth a visit for just a snack or a hearty meal.

I saw this advertised on another website that involves maps (!), staying over the river, and thought I would go for a stroll, I may just make the 14:00 advertised closing time. Got there with ten minutes to spare, wasn't sure if I would be served as lot of places at that time would not serve you. But there were two gentlemen in front of me, who asked for sandwiches that needed something cooking, and the lady just cracked on. I took a ham and egg roll that had been made previously. Decent sized roll, not a tiny one, and tasted very good. No picture of it, as I eat it!! There are a few seats if you wish to sit down. I would recommend just going out of your way a little to experience this little hidden gem, and I believe they take phone orders as someone came in to collect as I was leaving (please feel free to correct me if I am incorrect on that)

Well worth the 5 minute walk from Courtyard by Marriott, near London City Airport. Extensive menu with something for everyone. Owner was super friendly. We will go back again next time we are in the neighborhood!

We were staying in the area and popped in on 2 days - the lady serving was lovely, sandwiches and breakfast rolls were freshly made in front of us, and seriously delicious, and the prices very reasonable. I would definitely visit again if I am in the area.

This little shop has been going for years now. Very nice staff, the food is fab also. It’s small but there is room to fit inside f you want too. Everything from sandwich’s cakes a cooked breakfast that won’t cost and arm and a leg Great if you are visiting from the airport round the corner and don’t want to pay airport prices for a sandwich and a coffee. Also it’s made in front of you fresh!!! Plus the fact that you get a slice of the good old east end. Staff are very nice too. You get to meet two locals to the area so if you ever wanted to know what a cockney sounds like and you’re visiting London City airport pop in. I live local and use it regularly and if it was rubbish both the lovely ladies that work there know I would say. Not to mention the taxi drivers lorries drivers council workers passers by and everyone else that returns again and again 😂

Had a lovely English-breakfast type sandwich in here. Though it was inexpensive and from a small, snack bar unit, the bread was really nice, not just something out of a supermarket packet, as in some places, This makes such a difference: clearly they take their "sandwich" name seriously and use a good supplier of real bread. The contents were tasty too and set me up for a long day ahead. The blond lady who served me was friendly and on the ball.

Visited here as we had a bit of time before a flight. Lovely crusty bread, good tea in a mug and really good selection of sandwiches / breakfast / lunch. And nice atmosphere, the lady running it was lovely. Thanks!

My colleagues and I often frequent this popular little snack bar at least once a week when we are working on day shift (we work in a factory opposite). They sell a delightful range of baguettes, rolls and sandwiches and all their bread is fresh and very tasty. A full range of English fair both hot and cold is available for your indulgence including a fully loaded English baguette which includes the finest eggs, bacon and sausages fused with brown sauce and is simply heaven to your palette and is most definitely for those with a healthy appetite. A popular choice is a baguette loaded with bacon and black pudding with a dash of sauce which invigorates the taste buds. All the ingredients they use are top notch with delicious sausages, bacon, eggs plus other fillings including mushrooms and black pudding etc. Tea and coffee plus cold drinks are also available. I personally opt for a healthy crusty chicken and stuffing roll. The roll is generously loaded with tasty meat accompanied by a good helping of stuffing which is truly divine. The Girl of Sandwich is very popular with workers and local residents alike, indeed, even airport staff from the local London City Airport bypass their own airport eateries and use this snack bar instead as it offers great food at a very reasonable price all served by the friendly happy staff. It is possible eat in but there are only a few stools to sit on as essentially, this establishment is mainly a take away. Highly recommended.

Can only give a bland 'neither here nor there - middle of the range' score because we didn't actually get to enter. Hence nothing to judge! Accompanied friend, on Good Friday, who had travelled from West Country, particularly looking forward to sampling the much acclaimed BJ'S Pie & Mash Called by phone beforehand but received no reply or recorded message. However, the Website definitely declared that the place was 'open'. Mightily peeved therefore on arrival to a find notice on door stating that the establishment was closed for Easter. Such a shame that the website didn't provide up to date information and that the phone didn't respond with similar information. Great disappointment!

Wow! I’ve been aware of roots for the last few months, as it has been very popular in East village with residents but today was the first time I was able to go with friends. I was not disappointed. We drank out way through most of the cocktail menu, each one was delcious and wonderful well presented. The tastes are great and the presentation (dry ice is a lovely touch) is amazing. The bit that makes Roots stand out is the great customer service. They were very attentive and the head bar man was more than keen to come over, talk us through the menu and advise what cocktails would best suit our palettes. There was plenty of staff around who were keen to help and serve. Overall we paid £50 each for 5 cocktails, which seems a lot if out of London but the service and choice makes this a London bargain! I could not recommend visiting enough, this bar will quickly rocket to the top of trip advisors list, so get in soon!
