First time here. Shown to a table for two by a lovely bubbly waitress. Comfortable dining area. We ordered a main and dessert and drinks. Absolutely delicious, dessert was amazing easter cheesecake. Very reasonably priced,lovely music relaxing atmosphere,overall excellent experience, will definitely call in again.

Beautiful food! The most loveliest lady who does front of house. Definitely be back.

My wife and our 2 small kids ate a 3 course early bird here recently. The food was fantastic, especially given how well priced it is. The staff were incredibly helpful when it came to getting our kids fed, bringing out their food first and checking up on them. The owner and staff were super friendly and full of suggestions for things to do on our trip also. We will absolutely be eating here again and will heartily recommend to anyone!

I ordered the soup, chicken curry and pavlova. The soup was nice, a bit of an odd mix of thin and lumpy but was still nice. The curry wasn't overly tasteful, but I did take out the mushrooms as they were strong, so this may have just been due to my dislike of muchrooms and the pavlova was nice. Overall an OK feed but not as good as I have had in previous years.

Food and service was faultless. The staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly. The quality of food was amazing. We went for my granny’s 80th and they catered very well to large parties of people with all food being served at same time. We will definitely be back.

Food and service was second to none. The presentation was first class and the portion sizes were massive. One of the nicest meals out myself and my family have had. Over all, amazing grub, great atmosphere, friendly, attentive staff and an extremely reasonably priced menu. The Gables Team are A star. We will be back.

Called into Gables restaurant yesterday for dinner. Arrived at 4 at which time dinner menu had just started. We ordered chicken supreme x 2 one with chips one dauphinoise potatoes one with mushroom sauce one with peppered sauce. After 45 mins our main meal arrived with 2 x chips & 2 x peppered sauce on the side. I told the waitress it was wrong she made some excuse they messed up in the kitchen. I asked her to change it to our previous order & after 10 mins by which time our main meal was stone cold they still got it wrong. I asked them to take away the food & to speak to the manager. He was rude unapologetic & made no effort to make amends. In fact when we were leaving he said "have a nice evening" in a very sarcastic tone. Totally unprofessional manner by him & the waitress & will definitely not be returning in future 😡

A big thank you to Niall today. I called in today to get a take away dinner for my nephew as we were going shopping and he was getting hungry. We were not having dinner as it was too early for us. He told me if I wanted to take my nephew inside to feed him his dinner I was more than welcome. Great customer service....

We were pleasantly surprised when we stopped for a meal and were welcome with such warmth and happiness even tho we didn't have a reservation, the staff and food as well as the atmosphere of the Gables Restaurant will make us come back. Thank you .

Good food. Nice portion sizes. Service was poor and extremely slow, people that arrived at the same time as us were leaving before we got fed after 50mins. We reckon they forgot about our order, not even an apology.

It was a long time since I was in the Gables. It was always good but I think it's got even better. Three Sunday lunches were great. For those not so nimble it was nice to have the food served at table.

Love the food here and Lisa is Brillant at her job really looks after you, the food is 5 star. Highly recommended 👌

We were there on a Sunday for a wee bite to eat. We arrived there at 1:30 and took ATLEAST 1 hr and 30 minutes for our main course to arrive. There was flys and wasps flying all around the place and in the kitchen. We started eating and the chicken tasted like a walrus sat on it. I also asked for Fanta and they gave us orange juice.. The staff were VERY disrespectful. I recommend not going cause I know I won’t. 😡😡

Called on a Saturday evening for quick bite - ordered the sea bass - cooked perfectly - fish was moist, skin crispy with plenty of sides - important for someone that likes a proper meal - will definitely be back soon. Service was excellent

What a wonderful restaurant and bar in the countryside. Staff here were very friendly and helpful and the food is excellent. Don't eat here if you are not hungry! Portions are very generous.

First time here trying the spot … food was incredible, great for families ( I have 2 kids) , food was very hot and the service was top class. I actually live in NYC but First time I have been home and completely enjoyed my experience. A spot for everyone to try for sure.

Great food at great prices. Haven't been in years. And it hasn't changed much. Plates were extremely well presented, with soup over the edge of the bowl, but that's just being picky. Door handles and surfaces could do with sanitising

The two course early bird for lunch would have been a very pleasant experience but for one unforgivable sin: the chips are awful. Avoid at all costs, have some mash instead. I took my parents for an early dinner. The Gables was quiet at that time and we were seated immediately by very friendly staff. Myself and my father had soup to start which was delicious. A rich cream of vegetable, served with a very generous wedge of fresh wheaten bread. A standard but well executed start to the meal. For mains my mother and I had the Chicken Supreme while my father had fish and chips. The fish was huge and it is the first time ever my father has not managed to finish a fish dinner. He was very impressed by the size and quality. My mother and I enjoyed the freshly breadcrumbed and fried chicken alongside generous amounts of peppercorn sauce and salad. The peppercorn sauce was a little watery and could have been creamier but was perfectly serviceable. The one complaint we all shared were the chips which really let the whole meal down. As such an integral part of the meal it was very disappointing. At first glance they looked home made and fresh, but as soon as you bite into them you are met with a horrible aftertaste. At first I thought that it was a sign that the oil they were cooked in needed changed as there was an almost, 'off' or 'burnt' taste to them, yet upon trying a second chip I think that these chips are not fresh at all, but are actually bought in pre-prepared and like most 'fresh' chips when they have been pre-prepared for too long before being cooked they go stale, or more technically the starch breaks down. Serving chips which have gone stale is a real let down and made half the meals we had inedible. This is the trouble of cost cutting to save time or money, there is always a trade off and for it to come at the expense of the taste of the food to the point it is inedible...well it just isn't acceptable. Serving frozen chips which were actually edible would have been a better decision rather than going the pre-prepared route in hopes that the 'look' of home made would have people so enamored as to ignore the poor taste. With 'home-made' or 'fresh' chips, it is better to peel, cut and cook the chips fresh on site so as to actually know how long they have been 'fresh' for, rather than to buy in pre-prepared which runs the risk of falling into the stale taste trap. My mother had sticky toffee pudding for dessert which she found came as a generous portion and she was very pleased with. We had a pot of tea to finish the meal. A generous pot with a teabag for each diner which gave a good strength. The milk jug was blessedly generous and a pleasant relief from the trend of miniscule milk jugs and portions in other establishments. The teabags themselves however were of a lower quality and could be improved on for a better taste, especially considering the profit margins of tea. Overall, a meal of two halves. In future if we go back I would advise everyone to avoid the chips and to have mash or baby boils instead.

Great food, lovely friendly staff, bike friendly

The restaurant food was good wish there was a wider choice for vegetarians. Service was a bit slow.

Arrived for Sunday Lunch with my Mother and Husband at 2-15 and we were not served our starter until 3pm. After complaining about the delay we eventually received our main course at 3-30 and unfortunately the food was tasteless and partially inedible! You would have broken your teeth on the carrots. Chaotic service and poor quality food on this occasion.

Credit where its due, the building is presented well and welcoming when you arrive. beyond that the dissatisfaction commences having booked a meal for after a confirmation (inwhich we had preordered our food) we sat for over an hour with no apology. When the food finally arrived I couldn't decide if it was my main or an appetiser set infront of me with a piece of chicken, 10 chips abit of salad leaves and a sauce I actually felt lucky knowing mine was only 17 pound compared to my family members who chose steak. Theirs was equally as skimpy with a price of 30 pound for the pleasure of their hunger.

Great efficient service, lovely atmosphere, it has been refurbished since my last visit and the decor was very pleasing. The food ticked all the boxes, everyone went for something different, all cooked beautifully and presented beautifully . Really impressed such good food available on our doorstep.

Service was great, food was alright. Interior is quite dated. It could do with a more modern spruce up.

We brought 5 boys (2-10yr olds) to see Santa on Sunday 4.12.22 and I cannot commend Santa highly enough. They thoroughly enjoyed the craic and it definitely caters for all youth ages. Afterward we all enjoyed a gorgeous meal from start to finish. I would highly recommend visiting Santa at the Gables and having a family meal after.

My experience in here was complete garbage!! Waited an hour on food just for it to taste like a dusty translink chair (p.s the waiters breath honked)

We have just eaten here. The service was good but both the starter and main course were far too salty: soup, gravy, potatoes and vegetables. The food for the main course was piled in large portions onto one plate, including the gravy, which was off putting. The only thing that wasn't laden with salt was the chicken (once I scraped off the gravy), the rest went to waste. We complained and weren't charged for the soup. A very disappointing visit. It is very unlikely that we will be back.

Food superb and staff & service excellent 💯

From moment walked in it was a good experience. A big friendly welcome from who I assume was the manager who was in plain clothes. Other staff lovely too. The food was really nice & a big portion for an early bird. The 2 for £12 cocktails were also very good. Will defo be back 😊

Food class brisket really good staff 1st class

This was honestly a disaster. We previously booked a table of 7 after a funeral. Three of the main meals all arrived cold. We didn't say anything as the staff were lovely. However we returned as a party of 2 last week and the lunch special was truly awful. This dinner had been put into the microwave, cuting into the roast potatoe it was absolutely freezing. Returned for a fresh dinner. It was returned back microwaved within an inch of its life. The gravy was burnt to the plate the potatoes had a skin on the mash and the veg was disgusting, nothing was freshly prepared just blitzed. Thats not why you go to a restaurant for food. A microwaveable meal would have far exceeded this. We will not recommend or return. Waitress was embarrassed because she seen for herself the state of the dinner.

The menu had excellent variety & the food was absolutely delicious & full of flavour. I got to taste the jumbo Atlantic prawns & prawn cocktail to start, the duck & trout for mains & the sticky toffee pudding & chocolate fondant for dessert. We enjoyed heavenly cocktails, made by the lovely bar man Frank. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes amazing food in a pleasant ambiance.

Decent quality food with great intentions of being high end. Food was very well presented but if more effort was made getting it tastier it would have been more appreciated. Prices are high so expected the same level of quality. Or sons had the gables burgers and the meat was very dry. My wife had chicken supreme and there wasnt even a full fillet with the meal and i had the brisket which was tasty. Over all i was expecting a better level of quaility for the price paid. Didnt try desert or starter so not able to comment.

Great food, wonderful friendly and helpful service

Called into Gables as we were passing that way and it had been recommended. The staff were lovely and the food was excellent. I had chowder to start and was one of the best I've ever had. Then pork cutlet on creamy mash with the nicest gravy on the side on a mini copper saucepan. It was very well presented and the flavours amazing. Have paid more in other places and it not be as good. The dessert I had was chocolate brownie sundae and my friend the apple crumble both excellent. Being picky the gents toilets, the wash hand basin taps need fixing and the radiator is rusty. Easily fixed and would improve the look of the place as it's getting a bit tired looking. Thanks for a great experience.
