The food, service, location. 5 star! Always in search of the best steak & ale pie and to date (its been a pub on a loch in Scotland but I don't have time to look it up) Try and you will see. No filler "extras" and quality. Our #1 rated.

It’s a quirky old interior in a nice location. The food is reasonable though not amazing. The challenge we’ve had on 2 separate occasions is the service is SLOW. Not offered drinks within 10 mins on arrival, 3 starters took about 45 mins, 3 kids meals an hour (and after adult starters, having asked for kids to come with starters), mains about an hour and 20 minutes. Queried the delays and informed ‘we’re just busy’, yet tables not full? Service staff look like they take the brunt of a slow kitchen service and subsequent customer comments, and look a bit frustrated, often biding time cleaning cutlery and waiting for bar to service drinks. It’s not the service staff issue. The manager is accountable and should be all over front of house and kitchen service and is clearly not present or switched on enough to run a tight ship (prompt and consistent food during dinner service). I won’t go again or recommend as I’d fear embarrassing my friends with slow service, which we all know is frustrating and makes you wonder what an earth is going on behind the scenes…

Food was delicious as always, main server was very good with our young daughter who is under 2.

Was here for Christmas dinner with the family and all three courses were fantastic and the staff were great, plus a lovely pint of real ale 🍺 will definitely be booking for next year 👌

Absolutely fantastic. Went here for lunch on Xmas eve. Was a limited menu but plenty of choices. Went for the sharing platter and it was delicious. Plenty of food, well presented and very very tasty. Foolishly we then both went for the steak & ale pie, chips, peas & gravy. Again, absolutely delicious but due to the size and quality of the starter we struggled to finish. I hate leaving food, especially super tasty food, but we were just stuffed. The service was excellent and were made to feel welcome like always. Will be returning in the new year for sure.

Party of 5 Starters Oriental sharing platter, Garlic bread and Creamy mushrooms - all were amazing Mains 2 x ham hock sandwiches - very thick and crunchy baguette, made it difficult to eat. Also the amount of ham was minimal. Moroccan lamb pizza - tasty but very spicy. Steak and mushroom pudding - lovely Beef stroganoff - very tasty but beef was quite fatty.

Sat down for our meal and ordered drinks which came fairly quickly - then we were politely asked if we wouldn’t mind moving to the older part of the building (someone had a medical issue and couldn’t manage the step) - we were happy to do so and were told that our drinks would be removed from the bill. Food came and was lovely ☺️ When the bill came, my dining partner had her coke removed; I paid in full for my wine (not even a discount 🤷🏻‍♀️) didn’t make a fuss as it was busy……. shame as it would have been a really good experience

Excellent meal - all 6 of us had the Christmas menu and the food was prepared to a high standard and all the staff were friendly and helpful.

Once again, excellent service and delicious food in comfortable surroundings. The menu is extensive and varied, currently including an 2 or 3 course Christmas meal selection, and all reasonably priced.

Lovely fresh, piping hot food as always. Nice atmosphere with the Xmas decorations out.

Lovely Christmas meal with a group of 9. Excellent food and service.

I recommend the sharing platter was well worth the money. My children had the Tapas they enjoyed having different foods to try.

We were very disappointed with our visit and felt second class having been directed to a poky cold room at the front of the pub which was in essence a walk through to the kitchen and the place where staff ate their food. We had booked but even though we asked for an alternative table, explaining it was chilly and away from everyone else,we were told no, the place was fully booked. They should have added that we were the ones who drew the short straw. Our meals did a circuit of the main area and one was given to another diner before the error was picked up and they arrived on our table. We felt neglected. Food itself wasn't bad. Won't be rushing back. Atmosphere where we were sitting was zero.

Fabulous food, my husband hasn't stopped raving about the seafood pasta - the best he has ever had. The remainder of our group was delighted with their choices of food. Service friendly and attentive. The only one thing we noted was that the room we were in, on our own, felt in some way as if we were there for a conference, 😂 We had a thoroughly good catch up with family and a relaxing lunch. Thanks to all.

The staff were wonderful and friendly but, unfortunately, someone had forgotten to put in our order so we waited a long time for our meal to arrive. The manager was extremely apologetic so all was forgiven as the Sunday lunch was absolutely excellent. We had the turkey and roast beef which could not be faulted. We shall definitely return and recommend The Cavendish to friends.

Booked for a friend who is recovering from a serious illness. I requested a quiet spot not overcrowded or loud as she doesnt cope with loud noise levels. The table was perfect soft music and only another couple at the other end of one of their many little rooms. The place is very pleasantly decorated clean and bright. The food was excellent along with the service. Highly recommended

Excellent meal with exemplary service

I have lived in the area for 6 years and the first time I went with friends it was very good. Within the last 3 years it has steadily gone downhill. Is it now owned by someone else? Saturday is awful. the food and staff were not up to par. Different chef perhaps? presentation of food is also not good. Shame because it is a really nice pub on a great location. 3 times in a row has been bad, so I need to find somewhere else within 2to3 miles. So sorry this is not my usual thing to complain.

Fantastic food, great atmosphere, we really enjoyed our visit it’s a hidden gem, the best pub food we’ve ever had.

We had an excellent meal and the service was 5*. My only comment is around the lighting temperature in the new extension part of the restaurant. The temperature of the lighting is quite cool, unlike the older parts of the pub, which, in my opinion, compromises the overall ambiance. Switch to a warmer bulb in this area and it would be lovely!

We came to the Cavendish to try the Steak Night menu. It was excellent value but sadly the requested 'rare' steak came'medium'. It was very tasty nevertheless.

We've eaten here a few times, The Cavendish Arms is a lovely restaurant/pub, the staff are friendly & helpful and the food is absolutely delicious, can thoroughly recommend!

Beautiful setting. My steak would have been nicer chargrilled and the cauliflower cheese although tasted nice would have been lovely in cheese sauce and not dried up. My friends roast beef dinner really wasn't very good. We had to ask for a steak knife as a normal one couldn't cut it, and it was chewy. We didn't recognise the yorkshire pudding as it looked like something out of the jungle and the replacement looked like the opposite foot. Seriously though. The waiter started moving tables in front of 2 ladies sat in the corner whilst they were still seated. That made me uncomfortable. My friend paid the bill whilst I found and asked the manager did he know what this picture was? I told him they are being continued to be served!!. He offered us a drink which we declined and went to the kitchen to tell the staff to make some more. He did say he would look after us if we went back and thanked us. After all, your only as good as your front line staff and food!!

We didn't partake of any food on this our first visit, but the whole ambiance of the establishment was warm and friendly. We will definitely be looking in again soon to partake in the dining experience.

Following the reviews, we went to celebrate mum's birthday. Food wasnt outstanding at all. Soup was tasty indeed. But really disappointed a green piece of plastic from the lasagne packaging had slipped into the lasagne possibly when unsealing it. This put us off and ceased the meal. To be fair, the meal was knocked off the bill but it was disheartening that it was unlikely to be homemade and full of tomato sauce and hardly any veg - maybe a small piece of pepper in sight.

Always a great place to eat with friends and to take visitors. Enhanced by the countryside and environment.

Fab food as always but waiting staff seemed less attentive than normal. Had to ask about drinks that were ordered and for cutlery for desserts and a child's dessert that never arrived.

Food is very good as is the service and atmosphere. One of the best pubs in the area.

Service: Staff perfect.✓✓✓ Food: Not so this time unfortunately with the soup just warm and one of the main courses the same, the latter comments coming from a person that 'never' complains. The fish portion was disappointingly small this time and better suited for a child. However all was tasty and maybe the chef was having a less than perfect day. We are booked for the middle of the month so will hope all will be back to normal🤞.

Tasty food, attentive staff, good vale

Never been before, and a friend suggested to go with them. We ate a sharing starter that was really good. Main meal Sunday beef, very tender. Unfortunately, the roast potatoes were very hard, so the chef gave us a complementary sweet. Which was not expected and very nice. We would love to visit again. I have a couple of photos to show.

There was a slight error on the order, but these things happen. No business can ever say that everything runs right 100% of the time. What matters is that you have a team around you to sort it out as quickly and efficiently as possible. This is exactly what happened and the problem was solved in 10 minutes better than I could have expected. The food was great, the service was better than 10/10, they all did amazing. Well done team Cavendish Arms. Your managers should be really proud of you. #cheesepie #steakpie 🤫😉

Accommodated a late walk-in on a Sunday evening brilliantly. Food was excellent; Sunday roast (lamb shank) and prawn and chorizo salad.

Visited on 24th August for the first time, and the food exceeded all expectations. The mixed sharing platter was a lot of food and all of it delicious. The pulled pork cigar was awesome. The mains were equally delicious but we were too full for desserts! Highly recommended!

Nice food but the double cooked chips weren't that good.

Always good to find a pub open for dining 7 days a week. Great choice of starters and mains, cask ales from the standard Marstons range. Excellent service with hardly any wait, arrived as a walk in but I would recommend booking beforehand. Discounted Market Menu available Monday - Friday 12:00 - 17:00.

Fabulous meal with an excellent pint of Hobgoblin Gold. Very efficient, friendly service. Definitely recommend.

It's always nice an greeted with a friendly face at the bar But. Sometimes the younger staff have a face on ,and have no idea what booking has been made, food always good. Service Sometimes can be hit an miss, but we'll still go back. It's not an all bad place to go, an when you can sit outdoors, It's lovely.

Service was perfect and ambience. Staff were lovely . Sadly my starter of mushrooms was cold and my daughter's trio of fish was so minuscule it looked like they had forgotten to add it to the plate .

Excellent lunch out with mum today. Compliments to the chef both duo of lamb and duck breast were delicious, perfectly cooked😋 . Waitress was an absolute 🌟 she even held door open for mum - made our day. Booked again for mums birthday 🎂. Thanks so much for a fantastic lunch 😊.

One of the most beautiful and best restaurants I have visited. I couldn't imagine the dishes. Beef steak served in a new and distinctive way. Lasagna, goat cheese pizza, and fish with French fries are a story of beauty.

Had the market three course for £19.95 was well worth the money, pate was lovely, cheese pie , pastry melts in your mouth couldn't finish main and had to take my pudding home . Its a lovely pub will definitely return . Thanks to the staff x

Nice place but food very disappointing

Beautiful little spot. We went on a Wednesday where they offer a great deal on 2 fillet steaks and a bottle of wine, all of which was excellent. Desserts were very well made too. Service was excellent and staff all friendly without rushing you
