Fantastic food with the best service. The staff really do go out of their way to ensure a great experience.

Dinner was ordered around 5.30pm. Food was delivered after 8pm. When the food came it was look warm

Asked for only salad dressing sauce and got a mixture. Food was rubbish

I’ve been to a few places around Midlothian and this was probably the worst pizza and pasta I’ve ever had. I made a big order and for some reason they made my pizza 20 minutes before anything else was ready. Ended up with an average pizza and the pasta was like a ready meal out a microwave. Once the pasta was ready the girl asked the man at the fish and chips counter for a small fish and chips and he said it wasnt ready so my other food was just sitting in a heater till that was ready. Overall very badly organised.

Unfortunately, we will never order again from this restaurant! Despite living a mile away the fish and chips were absolutely stone cold and the pizza was all tomato base and no cheese …. and stone cold! Shocking!

The food was cold. The delivery took so long that we had go and up it up ourselves after a 2 and half hours of waiting.

Took the restaurant 3 hours from ordering to inform me that they had no gluten free pizza bases so had to cancel order

Pizza looked like it had been thrown about. toppings and cheese all to one side.

Order wasn't even cooked 20 after delivery time. Had to go collect to stop waiting even further. Food order wrong and not edible. Some over cooked and hard. Not impressed. Never again

I placed order at 5.55 to be delivered between 7.30-7.50 I thought ok they must be busy waiting till 8.00 still no order phone restaurant to be told it was still being made and would have to wait another 45 minutes by this time both me and my daughter were hungry so didn’t want to cancel another 50 minutes to phone again by then I asked to speak to manager she told me my food would be with us soon and to request a refund through just eat for our wait we finally got food at 9.20 3 hours wait

Over 3hrs late. Phoned but was just told that they are busy. When arrived it was cold. Fact of the matter is you could fly to Italy and get pizza faster than getting a half assed pizza delivered from Dalkeith to mayfield.

Had lasagne one bit mince no taste and had been heated in the microwave would not go back

Ate in here at the weekend for our daughters 8th birthday. Upon entering the place was immaculate and looked very nice inside. The staff were excellent from start to finish, could not have done any more for us and our 3 girls during our time in here. Friendly, helpful and chatty with the kids. The food was also very nice with nothing going to waste, always a great sign. They even brought out a candle in my daughters dessert and sang happy birthday to her which really made her night. Great experience from start to finish. We will most definitely eat them in here again soon.

Never again, the second time I have asked for mushrooms on my pizza. Never happened. Can't call them to complain.

I have been with other food deliveries I stopped this I think just eat came number one and the best keep it up 10 out of 10

We have dined here in the past & have never been disappointed, the staff are friendly & welcoming, the menu provides a wide variety of options & on a cold November night it was warm & cosy.

Have ordered from here lots of times but tonight the lasagna was terrible and chips were awful !!

Dropped in by chance when travelling down south. Prawn cocktail was best I've ever had, enormous prawns, tasty sauce and fresh garnish. Gluten free pizza was amazing. Fresh tasty and light. Not doughy and heavy. Beautiful restaurant and the bathrooms are stunning and spotless. Huge portions and I was offered a box but declined do to continuing our journey but I did see others take away. Would highly recommend

Takeaway has become dreadful. Undercooked pizza last time…burnt this time, errors with the order…. To top it off, out of date crisps with the kids meal…classy. Won’t be back…

They forgot my banoffee pie and my burger was a tad soggy and lastly the curry sauce was rather watery. But nonetheless it tasted not too bad.

Nothing 'authentic'. Very sad. Ordered spaghetti bolonese as a childhood treat. Tasted like it was from a tin.. I did, at least, get that childhood experience. Insulting to true Italian cooking. Sorry But that's the truth on this occasion.

Phoned the restaurant to tell them we had stuff missing and cold and was late

Really dropped the ball tonight, almost 2.5 hours from ordering, didn’t pick up the phone, a simple pizza and chips arrived cold.

Food was about 30 minutes late and two of the dishes were wrong. We did get the two correct dishes delivered but then everything else was obviously cold and by then we were eating over an hour later than planned! Will stick with collection next time!

Came the other week with family and seemed lovely, staff treated us very kindly and were very patient, a young man working and serving us was very kind and professional, but after we noticed a women working there started acting out aggressively to the poor boy and then completely put down very other member of staff, we asked one of your waiters on who she was and they told us it’s the boss. Although it’s a very nice atmospheric place with wonderful choices of food, ‘higher’ members of staff should definitely not be treating others with such disrespect, as they also treated us perfectly without fail. Asides from that, very lovely meals.

ok so I put in a decent sized order. long delivery of over an hour and it was still 15 minutes late. the food quantities were ok, and the quality was just ok, very expensive for the quality you get. you can get much better for cheaper elsewhere. I won't be back and i wouldn't recommend. sorry.

Ordered one pizza at 6:30pm didn’t arrive until 8pm. The pizza itself was good tho

I've not been for a few years to the Cavaliere, overall we had a good experience. The food was good but I think it was slightly expensive for what I got, I ordered the breaded Haddock and Chips, at a cost of nearly £18 I was disappointed that the chips were cooked from frozen instead of homemade and the fish came in 2 small fillets and not 1 large, the peas were a bit over cooked and dry, and the salad that came with was a little limp, the rest of the party got a good mixture of items and all enjoyed the food, I did have a taste of some pasta, lasagne and pizza and all tasted really nice, I think the next time I visit I will go for one of the more traditional Italian dishes as these seemed to be the best. The atmosphere was nice even though it was quiet due to it being Wednesday night, the restaurant it beautifully decorated and modern but still feels very traditional and service was very good considering we were a party of 17. Overall I would definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area, they also have a takeaway part which I use quit regularly and have only ever had really good experiences when using it. ⭐⭐⭐

We went for lunch for a family celebration and pretty disappointed with the food. The pizzas were a bit undercooked and could have done with an extra few mins and one of the pastas wasn't great. However the biggest issue was that two of our party ended up with stomach cramps and vomiting after eating prawns. I phoned the restaurant the following day and spoke to a manager who advised he would investigate and come back to me. He phoned a few hours later and said no one else had reported a problem and it was kind of left at that! As a result none of us will return to this restaurant.

i was very disappointed in my delivery i have been going to this restaurant for a long time and loved it every time but the food was less then satisfactory i did not even eat my pasta and my son did not eat his meal its such a shame as it was a favourite of ours.

It's a lovely restaurant, friendly staff, food is usually outstanding, but didn't seem to reach the mark today.

Pasta tastes amazing could be a bit more saucy but that’s personal preference, seasoned well.

We were at a ladies brunch . Food was lovely as was the entertainment drinks flowed . Service was quick and friendly

I had a great experience for lunch in this restaurant. It has beautiful decor and accommodated my dietary requirements of dairy and gluten intolerance. Would recommend for a lovely and atmospheric meal.

Food was 1st class though service was slow.

My family went here for dinner. A nice place to get your Italian cravings satisfied. Wait time was about 15-20minutes. Loved the ambience, the interiors of the restaurant and especially the restroom is simply breathtaking. And we enjoyed our meal. We have also ordered a delivery a while back and it came earlier than scheduled, delivered by a courteous fellow. I would especially recommend the half pounder burger, yummy!

Two old school pals out for a meal and a couple of drinks. We decided to share a starter first which was the breaded mushrooms, passable but a little over done. Mains, I had the sausage rissotto which was on specials board. Friend had breaded haddock. Now special at all about Rissotto and sausage, in fact I couldn’t chew the sausage as far too tough. The flavour was just disappointing as well. The chips were most definitely oven chips and the breaded fish was burnt. Too tough to chew the outer breadcrumbs my pal was trying to scrape the fish from inside the breadcrumbs. We had a dessert each as still hungry We compained of course and the manager came to listen with hands on hips , no apology for the disappointing food, didn’t like his brusque manner. I mean I’m an average cook but even I can make tasty risotto and perfect fish and chips. All in with the price of the rissotto taken off the final bill and a drink each the bill was almost £60. Just not worth the money. We left the restaurant hungry. This is the last time I visit this place. Would have got nicer food at the Justinlees. 2/10.

2 1/2 hours to get a pasta take away dish delivered! I don't think that's acceptable. the garlic bread part of the brushetta was inedible by the time it arrived. I won't order take away from them again.

Offers a lovely setting with a good selection of wines and Italian food including some specialty pizzas. I had the lentil soup which was delicious and a pistachio pesto pizza which was fabulous. The staff were vey friendly and made the visit feel welcoming. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and would recommend unreservedly.

The audacity to be charging these prices when the food you get delivered is awful. Waited 1 hour 45 minutes for freezing cold and undercooked food with missing items, asked the driver where the juice was that it was given to someone else. The pasta was what you could get out a ready meal and for £15 it is ridiculous. If you can’t don’t cook the “food from the restaurant” to the same standard as you would in the building just don’t sell it or definitely not for the same price.

The worst pizza we have ever eaten, a mess of watery sauce and cheese that slipped right off. True disappointment considering the pizza is more expensive and everywhere else is better. Do not buy from here.

1 and a 1/2 hours given for delivery time, order was still an hour late beyond that. Ordered 21:10 delivered 23:50.

I placed an order at 6 o’clock, 7:30 came and went and I called the restaurant. The order hasn’t even been MADE yet?!? Like what in the actual world have they been doing for the last HOUR AND A HALF? Who knows when the food will actually arrive! Seriously though, I will be requesting a refund. Outrageous!

My partner & I have just had the absolute best experience at the Cavalie restaurant. We arrived without booking and were greeted by our amazing waiter Riccardo. 1st class , professional care. Riccardo gave us exceptional service. We would also like to thank Iona for her service too. The food was outstanding. The Cavalie is a definite visit for all. Ps. They have a beautiful alfresco dining area that is really romantic for couples & families alike. 5 * service all round.

Although the staff/manager were very apologetic and offered to cook fresh takeaway food, after almost a 2hr wait and the driver deciding to deliver to somewhere that’s 10 minutes drive rather than to my flat which is at the bottom of the hill from the takeaway, the last thing I wanted was to wait even longer whilst fresh food was cooked. Very disappointing and will be very glad when the competition opens again.

2nd time I've ordered from here and it'll be the last. Thought I'd give it a second chance but it was worse than the first time. There was absolutely no flavour. Spicy beef, peppers and pineapple and blindfolded you wouldn't know what you were eating. The peppers were also soggy. Love the restaurant side to the Cavalier but won't be using or recommending the takeaway again.

1. 5.50 for large chips and cheese I find absolutely ridiculous and rip off. 2. Chips where Cold had to reheat with the cheese back home which I live 30 secs away from chip shop was that angry didn’t come back to ask for replacement. 3. The lady serving was fantastic. 4. I won’t be back first time it’s happened ever since buying from the establishment.

First time in along time and won't be back for along time. I ordered a small fish supper and a small single fish the batter was like leather and not much fish. £14:50 for chips and not nice food.

Ordered from the takeaway part of the cavalier, I ordered a pizza and garlic bread to which the garlic bread had absolutely no garlic flavour it was just toasted bread. As for the pizza and service, They got my pizza toppings wrong I phoned with a nice manner not to state I want a refund or anything of the sorts (I picked off the wrong topping) to be met with hostility from the "owner". The "owner" then proceeded to say I can go watch the CCTV of when the order took place, along with when I stated that's no way to speak to a customer (the sheer attitude) she then stated don't come back then and hung up the phone. If you make a mistake you should atleast be responsible enough to apologise but the attitude and displeasure was not necessary. I will not be back and I certainly will not recommend to anyone. P.S the "owner" was making faces and shaking her head while an employee was taking a phone order. This is not a nice environment, I have never left a review on a restaurant before but this most certainly deserved one left.

Outstanding! What a beautiful restaurant and such atentative and welcoming staff! 5 star throughout. Our meal and drinks were delicious! Highly recommend this absolute gem of a restaurant! Even the toilets are breath takingly beautiful!

I have been using this restaurant since we first moved to Dalkeith in the 1970s and have always found it to be excellent, sadly tonights "experience" was dreadful, we were a party of 22 family members and used the larger function suite to the rear, I don't know if there had been an incident before our arrival at 6pm, but the waiting staff seemed very offhand, un-attentive and disinterested, certainly not the atmosphere we have experienced on our many previous visits, however, what was more disappointing was the standard of the food, it was atrocious, I had ordered a veal dish which was accompanied with truffle potatoes and seasonal veg, the almost warm veal was topped with ham and in a flavourless cream sauce, the tiny portion of veal was thinner than the ham topping, it was so over cooked that it was hard and chewy, as was the ham topping, the small "dollop" of cold truffle potatoes were disgusting, they had a weird sticky craggy texture like wallpaper paste and was inedible, the "seasonal veg" consisted of 4 cold sad looking limp sprigs of broccoli and 5 cold green beans, I ate around half the veal and gave up, I let my wife and son taste the potato and the waitress noticed me doing that, she then asked what was wrong, I told her that the potato wasn't edible, she took my plate away, a few minutes later returned and offered me a bowl of chips in place of my £23 veal dish. My wife had opted for a tagliatelle dish, all I will say is that I have done better with a jar of Dolmio, although my Dolmio effort would have been hot when served, all the portion sizes were small, none of the staff seemed interested, no-one enquired if the food was "OK". For desert my twin sons opted for a sharing cheese board for two, it had two thin slices of toasted bread around the size of a playing card, and enough cheese to be an embarrassment for a plater for one. Overall this has been a bad experience, having been a patron for around 50 years this evenings poor offering has left me quite upset, Tony and Gemma have obviously taken their eye off the ball here.

Every time I order food from this place I feel as if I've been properly taken care of. From the moment I walk in, the staff are always welcoming and cheery. I know this cannot be easy at times. We are all human after all, but I walk in, I'm greeted with smiles and a *genuine* friendly atmosphere. No pretense - just people being upbeat and passionate about what they do. This most certainly comes across in the food also. I've had some amazing and authentic tasting pizzas from the Cavaliere, but their pasta dishes are exceptional. Tonight I had the Tagliatelle Sophia (with added chicken). It was a recommendation from a couple of the staff. All I can say is thank you guys for the recommendation! It tasted fantastic. Really great place for food. I've never actually eaten in the restaurant - it's always been takeaway so far, but I'll definitely have a proper sit-down meal there soon. Fantastic people and food!

Order was 2 hours 40 minutes after the point of order. Had to chase multiple times. Understand things can get busy however what’s been delivered is also below par. Very disappointing

Wasn’t happy at the quality of the order. Ordered pizza plus other meals. The other meals had clearly been placed on top of the box which weighed down onto the pizza - so most of the pizza was stuck to it the roof of it and was a complete waste of money. Also ordered a small tub of sauce at the cost of £1.95 which never appeared either. Very disappointed.

Garlic bread was just like a slice of tiger bread with a cheese slice on it very disappointed and the pasta was dry and was very bland with no taste to it. Really gutted but won’t be back second time this has happened.

Had my mum wake here at the end to April, to say I’m disappointed is an understatement, granted it was short notice, they still had 4 days. We got sandwiches which my grandson age 4 could have done better, grated cheese a slither of lettuce, no butter, Egg mayonnaise again with a slither of lettuce, no butter, sausage rolls, and shortbread. Ham and tomato sandwiches came out an hour later. No finesse,sandwiches were cut in half, just dumped on a platter, no butter, virtually no filling , yet they had the cheek to charge to charge £10 a head, there wasn’t even enough shortbread to cover everyone. Tea & coffee were available, but coffee machines weren’t working properly. Yet they charged £500, when I can assure you they only spent , £50 if that on food . To say that I was disappointed is an understatement. My mum asked for her wake to be here, but I’d rather have done it myself in the street, she’d have had a better send off. She really loved going here with her friends for lunch, but she was sorely let down on by them at her wake. My mum was an amazing woman and deserved the best, I’m sure a lot of people will know her, her name was June Muir. I’m sorry mum, that you’re send off to me as not as we requested. Btw, I told them on the day that I was severely disappointed, not sure how any chef could provide such a poor quality product. I mean, what happened to etiquette, finger buffet requires at least edible sandwiches which are cut into 4, not slabs of dry bread dumped on a platter

Kebab was dry. Fish batter was tough

ordered a few times and food is always good. but this time was pretty poor. ordered t bone steak and chicken with haggis. steak was bland and hadn't been seasoned. chips were soggy and sauce was watery like it hadn't been simmered for long enough. chicken was nice but vegetables where watery and sauce again was watery. pretty poor to be honest. considering it was an £80 meal.

An amazing Italian place in town. Portion sizes are huge and delicious. Cocktails are also tasty.
