Ordered takeaway to our lodge whilst on holiday and it was delicious! The food is of high quality and you can really tell it’s from a restaurant. My partner and I were really pleased with all of the dishes, it’s up there with one of the best Thai takeaways we’ve both had. Delivery was quick and the food arrived hot. I would highly recommend.

After my second visit to Thailand No. 1 in Matlock, I can confidently say that this restaurant continues to provide a flawless dining experience. From the food to the service, every aspect of this place stands out as exceptional. The moment you step inside, you are greeted with an inviting, warm atmosphere. The décor blends traditional Thai elements with modern elegance, creating a cozy yet stylish setting. Soft lighting adds to the relaxed ambiance, and the background music—Thai pop with vocals and some fantastic 80s guitar riffs—creates a fun, upbeat vibe without ever overpowering the experience. Though the restaurant was quiet when we arrived, it was fully booked for later, yet the staff accommodated us without hesitation, which made us feel welcome and valued right from the start. The food is what truly makes Thailand No. 1 shine. Every dish we tried was packed with vibrant flavours, beautifully prepared, and fresh. We began with the Satay Gai (chicken satay), which was perfectly grilled, tender, and served with a creamy, slightly nutty peanut sauce that complemented the smoky grilled chicken beautifully. It was a perfect introduction to the meal. For the mains, we had the Sweet Chilli Crispy Chicken, served in a foil boat with fresh lemon. This dish was absolutely outstanding. The crispy chicken, coated in a tangy and sweet chilli sauce, was deliciously balanced. The addition of fresh lemon added a refreshing, zesty kick that brightened the entire dish. The texture was perfect, with the crispiness of the chicken contrasting nicely with the tender meat inside, and the sauce was just the right amount of bold without being overpowering. We also enjoyed the Duck with Pineapple and Cashew Nuts, which was a true highlight. The duck was cooked to perfection, with crispy skin and tender, succulent meat. The sweetness of the pineapple and the crunch of the cashew nuts created a wonderful contrast in texture, while the sauce was aromatic and rich, bringing everything together in a harmonious blend of sweet and savory. The Prawn Spring Rolls were another standout. They were perfectly crispy on the outside, with a fragrant, flavorful prawn filling inside. The dipping sauce was subtle yet complemented the rolls beautifully, making each bite a delicious treat. Accompanying the mains, the steamed rice was the perfect base, allowing the sauces and flavours from each dish to shine through. It paired beautifully with every dish, soaking up the rich and aromatic sauces without overpowering the flavours. Service at Thailand No. 1 is another reason I keep coming back. The staff are friendly, professional, and genuinely care about making sure your experience is memorable. Despite the restaurant being fully booked later, they accommodated us with ease, and the food was served promptly but without feeling rushed. In summary, Thailand No. 1 in Matlock remains one of the top spots for authentic Thai cuisine. The food is top-tier, the service is attentive and welcoming, and the atmosphere is relaxed yet vibrant. Delicious Thai food here run by Thai people. My friend and I shared the surprise starter which was full of different bits- the prawn toast was the best, I recommend. The mains were also lovely. Everything was brought out promptly with good service. The interior design was sleek with traditional Thai decor incorporated.

My partner and I had dinner here for my 25th birthday. The food was delicious and they were very accommodating of my partner's coeliac disease (loads of amazing and well labeled gluten free options). We will definitely come again next time we're in Matlock 😊

We had a takeaway, so collected the order. I turned up 10 minutes early and it was already ready, which concerned me slightly. Anyway, the restaurant looked lovely and the staff were pleasant. Cater foe Gluten free, which was a bonus. Our order (including 10% discount) came to £80.00. I was expecting a fairly decent spread of food, but it felt light in weight whe. Walking away. I Opened everything up and first impressions were confirmed after eating it. Worst Tom Yam soup i've ever eaten, no spice, a watery mess that had some cheap mushrooms, 3 prawns floating in it and nothing else. The Satay gai was ok, but came with a drip of sauce that barely covered two of the skewers. The massaman was ok, but watery and not the best ive eaten. The duck dish was cold and not remotely crispy, but came with a huge pot of sauce, which was way too much. No decoration with thai vegetables or the finish you expect from a higher level cuisine, as aposed to chinese. I felt the order had been made too far in advance and left to get cold, was rushed and ultimately was a very average meal. Dissapointed.

Booked a table for dinner but they weren’t busy as it was a weekday evening. We had chicken satay and king prawns to start my husband had duck and I had prawn pad Thai, the food was well presented and the service was good with a pleasant atmosphere.

We didn’t book and went into the restaurant at 7pm, they asked us to come back at 9pm. When we came back the restaurant was empty and they didn’t call us to let us know if they space sooner after taking our number. They then sat us next to the only other people In the restaurant, a group of private schooled snobby girls who started at us sniggering and laughing. We both felt so uncomfortable and didn’t understand why they sat us at this tiny table where we couldn’t get in/out and there was a tiny gap between us and the pretentious girls. We didn’t ask to move as it looked like the girls were leaving but then they never did. The owner was not sympathetic when we mentioned this when leaving and we knew we should have asked to move but felt uncomfortable to do so. The food was average and very rushed. We got the banquet for 2 and it came out so fast and little o space to put dishes due to tiny table. The servers could barely get in/out the space and the girls next to us were sat awkwardly on purpose it seemed. I would not recommend you spending your money here. Lack of care around the dining experience and taking care of customers. This was probably one of the worst meals out I’ve had to be honest, due to atmosphere, lack of care and interest in the customer!

Had birthday here Sunday. Partner never been keen on Thai. He and myself absolutely couldn't fault the food at all. Surroundings were stunning. Staff very polite indeed. Converted my boyfriend completely. Was pleased after 20 minutes they did put music on in the background.

We visited the restaurant for a Saturday evening meal. The atmosphere was beautiful, the staff was so attentive and polite. The meal was ample and so delicious. Would highly recommend we will definitely be returning and bringing family and friends along with us. The food was Very aromatic, so tasty and full of flavour. I had the Duck and it was cooked to perfection. My husband had the jungle curry beef and it was quite Spicy but that was perfect for his taste! The wine was lovely and my husband had a shandy as he was driving. Definitely worth a visit!

We collected a take away this evening. The portions were disappointingly small. The tom yam was weird and not what we have had in Thailand and other restaurants. Ok but not what we were expecting. The massaman was bland and tasteless. The penang was ok. It nothing special. The pad thai was congealed and tasteless. Overall a very disappointing experience. Lacked any real flavour and was very expensive for the quality and tiny portions. We are local but won’t be returning.

It was the first Saturday if the Christmas season, and Matlock was buzzing! We had booked for 8.30 and considering how busy it was, we were sat down at 8.40, which to be fair wasn’t bad at all. Menus brought, drinks order taken. The wine was nicely chilled with an ice sleeve, unfortunately the waiter forgot the water, but no big issue. The order was taken, and read back to us, which is always good. The food overall was good, the only reason I gave a four star, was the fact that the sizzling duck dish didn’t have much duck in it! Would I go again?……most definitely!

Excellent ! I've eaten at the one in Nottingham several lunch times, always good and the Matlock one more than lived up to expectations. All very good, can't fault it, definitely recommended.

Amongst all the fish and chip shops a little gem arises! Seems like if you want food in Matlock that’s not fish and chips, pie or Italian - then this is the way to go. Food was great, good prices. Service was even better - shoutout to the person with the black stud earrings and the girl wearing a hijab (sorry didn’t get either of their names), both provided outstanding service!!! Don’t order takeaway. They use Uber Eats who think it’s okay to deliver to a completely different address 8 miles away from the delivery address on the order and then refuse a refund. The food might be great but we will never know. Hopefully this will make them reconsider who they use for delivery services.

Food was OK but wasn't happy with the pricing a set meal for 2 says £24.95 which looks good but you have read it as it's £24.95 person not so good

We ordered takeaway to our little holiday stay. Excited as the reviews were good and it came recommended. Such a shame the portion sizes were that of a mouse. The dishes lacked authenticity and the depth of flavour expected in Thai food. Expensive and we were left still feeling hungry as could only managed a mere tablespoon of each dish because there was so little of it. I had to reach for the fridge afterwards!

Don’t go unless you are a very fast eater and enjoy being rushed. They accepted our 8.30 reservation for 8 people, then approached our table constantly to remind us the kitchen closed at 10. Had we wanted dessert, we would have been refused. Average, unauthentic Thai food. Terrible attitude towards paying customers. Our bill was almost £300. Made to feel like an unwelcome inconvenience. Will never go back.

We went for lunch one Friday and the guy who greeted was nice and informed us they shut at 230pm (it was just after 1pm). Within 30 seconds another older / taller guy came out and said we had to order starters now as they shut soon. We hadn’t even opened the menu - no joke. 30 seconds later he came back so we ordered the starters. He was very rude indeed. The starters were actually nice - chicken satay and battered prawns. We also had to order mains in seconds after we ordered the starters (all ordered in less than 2 mins of sitting down). They brought the mains out at different times and my friend had to wait 5 minutes whilst mine went cold which is ironic. The mains were really disappointing. Bland special rice, bland pad Thai, low quality beef and ok at best the rest. We wouldn’t recommend these for service or food. The younger guy at the front desk was very nice and polite but the older / taller guy was very rude.

Had the banquet and wasnt disapointed food was perfect and tasty Staff very polite and friendly looking forward to our next visit.

Given the postive reviews we decided to order a take away, however we wished we hadn't. We frequently eat Thai food in restaurants and take away cook Thai at home and this has to be the most basic poor quality food we have experienced. My guess is that the food may be better in the restaurant and the also operate second tear volume over quality channel for take away, although I we won't take the risk of dinning in.

Very good Thai restaurant. Good food well presented by cheerful staff in a pleasant environment. We ate on a first floor terrace overlooking the bar and downstairs tables which felt more private. Reasonable prices. We booked which was essential for Saturday night. Recommended.

What a beautiful place. We had the set banquet menu for £27pp and it was amazing value! Soup, mixed starters, 3 curry dishes and rice and noodles. The food was amazing! Staff so helpful and friendly, we would definitely come back.

Just had an absolutely delicious meal for two with my husband here. The green curry was excellent, the sweet and sour crispy pork was excellent, the prawn toast was incredible, basically everything was really good. We had the meal for two and swapped out one of the mains for a veggie option because I don't eat much meat. The people serving we're really attentive and although it was busy, service was quite quick (but not annoyingly quick). We had more than enoigh so took the rest home in tubs for tomorrow. Highly recommended for taste, service, availability of vegetarian/vegan options. If you're in the area, you should go there.

Stopped by Thailand No.1 Matlock craving Thai food en route back to London after a day out in the Peak District. Food was absolutely amazing with authentic fresh flavours. Recommend the Tom Yum and Pad Thai's as well as the fried fish. The staff were really friendly and very welcoming. Super helpful on menu recommendations. The summer cocktail that is currently on offer is highly recommended. The pink gin with raspberry was super refreshing. Would definitely come back if passing thru.

We decided to indulge in the Banquet Set B Meal to kick off our Matlock Bath adventure, and it proved to be a delightful choice. The restaurant exuded a majestic atmosphere, with its ornate decorations, elegant cutlery, and enchanting music, setting the stage for a truly grand lunch experience. Every course surpassed our expectations, from the velvety cream soup to the tantalizing appetizers and the four delectable main dishes. The staff members were incredibly attentive and professional, adding to the overall enjoyment of our meal. Without a doubt, we are eagerly anticipating our next visit to savor this exceptional dining experience once again.

Food: we ordered a very nicely-done variety (Set Menu A). We are quite familiar with Thai food, and this was an excellent effort. The chef made the beef "extra spicy" for me and it was exactly right. Best things: prawn toasts very nice, a perfect green curry. The bottle of 2017 Monsoon Valley shiraz was delicious and good value. Staff are friendly, attentive, and efficient. Thailand No.1 is a superb restaurant and is a highlight of our trip to Matlock. (We are Londoners.)

I like to visit this excellent authentic Thai restaurant when in Derbyshire. I live in Hertfordshire. The food is always excellent and so is the service. I normally take my 88 year old parents with me who love the food too but they were not well enough on this trip to go. After preparing many meals for their freezer I didn’t fancy cooking for myself so I decided to book a table and eat alone on Friday 3rd May. The staff made me extremely welcome, the food as always excellent. However it was the additional kindness of the owner and her partner who made the evening so enjoyable for me. Make sure you book as always busy and if you are on your own and want to eat out you will be well looked after.

Superb food, tasted fantastic. Very quickly cooked. Service was ok, waitress either didn’t know the menu well or couldn’t speak English very well. Tables are very close together, the table/chair at the top of the stairs was a squeeze to get past. Would definitely return. Parking is just past (if on left) on the street free after 6pm. Enjoy - we did.

It's not the most authentic Thai food. Perhaps suited to the local palette, but for me the food lacked the intensity of flavour and heat I normally associate with Thai food. The staff were lovely!

My husband and I had such a lovely meal here. We had vegetarian skewers for starters with an amazing satay sauce. We then both had curries and coconut rice for main (one duck and one king prawn - generous amounts), they were presented in bowls with heated candle underneath which kept it nice and hot. The food was so delicious! The service was also great, everyone was very attentive and helpful.

It's got everything you could want with the best Thai food we've had since visiting Thailand! authentic flavours and style, stylish environment, good prices and friendly staff. They have a great varied menu, Curries, rice dishes, noodle dishes and authentic saladsl a big selection of vegan and vegetarian options with quite a lot of the menu being able to made gluten free too! I'd 100% recommend booking as well as it was full right until closing when we visited We will definitely be visiting here again! 10/10

Dined at the Matlock Thailand No.1 last night. Service was outstanding and the staff and chef were so professional. They catered for my vegan diet and allergy to plum without making me feel like a nuisance. The food was delicious. Definitely going back there and will also visit the Lincoln one as it's our home city.

Dived in here on a very wet Tuesday in April. Had a lovely welcome from Alastair and a young lady (sorry didn’t get her name) who took our coats. We had the banquet meal A for two and a glass of house white wine each plus Jasmine tea. The meal was delicious and very filling - we couldn’t quite eat it all. When we got the bill we were delighted to be told that during the week there was a 10% discount on set lunches.

Great location but lacking in atmosphere on a Sunday evening with only 4 tables occupied. We had 3 dishes. One good, one fairly good and one poor. How can you get a pad Thai wrong? Gloopy sticky noodles were poor. Service was good. But I wouldn’t return.

Nice atmosphere and interior which raised our expectations. Ordered the chefs platter starter for £20 which was for two people. Disappointed that it was just a small frozen selection I could have bought from the supermarket. Very expensive for what it was. To finish off they have the cheek to automatically add a 10% tip to the bill of such an overpriced meal.

We dined at this lovely restaurant today, we are visiting from London and after a long tiring day at Heights of Abraham we stumbled across this place while looking for somewhere close by for dinner, we were a group of 5 and I had my 4y and 6y with me. Firstly the food was delicious, my fussy children actually ate everything I gave them and for me that was a win in its self. It came out fresh and hot and there were nice touches like a candle to keep the curry warm etc. My 6y son loved the prawn starters we ordered another one! And my mum who is also hard to impress really enjoyed it and said the chicken tamarind dish melted in her mouth. The service was amazing, the staff were so friendly and it was a refreshing change as normally when I go to a restaurant with young children I always feel the staff want to rush us out and mostly do not engage with the children but here the staff were very nice and polite - they were not over the top friendly but the right amount and it made me feel so comfortable to be eating out in a nice place with the kids. The highlight for me was when we finished all the prawn red curry my daughter wanted more prawns so I asked if I could order more as a side dish which initially the waiter said was not possible (which I had no qualm with and completely understood) but my daughter was quite sad and I think he took pity and went to ask the chefs who were so so kind to bring her out a small portion with no extra charge!! I cannot say as a mother how much I appreciated this kindness. Both kids drew a thank you note which the staff also appreciated and made them feel good about, the kids really bonded with the front waiter and were calling him by first name basis. All in all it was a pleasant surprise to stumble in to this place. Thank you Alastair and all the staff for making our evening and being so accommodating. If we are ever back in town we will be sure to visit 😃😁

Passing through Matlock, I needed a quick meal for 1. I love Thai, so why not. Lovely place, lovely staff. The prawns starter was lovely, tasty and super hot, and a great amount (4). Had chicken Pad Thai for mains, lush amount also, and delicious tasting. Would return if I was ever here again.

Amazing Thai food! Some of the best I've had, great little spot on Matlock

We've had reasonable meals at this restaurant before, but our last visit was disappointing. The Green Curry was sickly sweet and had no real flavour. The mussels and squid tasted like they had been in the freezer way too long and were tough. The service was fine but I don't think we'll return because for the price you pay you'd hope to get something that exceeds anything you can get out of a bottle or jar, and the meal this evening fell very short of even that. I really could have cooked something much more tasty and fresh at home.

Visited with family for dinner on a quiet Sunday evening. Six of us in the party. Our first visit and we will definitely be returning. The staff are charming and very welcoming, the restaurant is immaculate and the food was delicious.

The starter was cheap chicken....possibly processed. The Thai green curry hardly had any vegetables in and felt rushed due to the seating timetable. We also had a waitress who could not speak a word of English. We were not given a bill and had to pay on the way out. The food was expensive for the quality that was supplied. I was gutted as it was for my partners birthday as we were away in Bakewell for the weekend. I had read the reviews before booking and thought it would be alot nicer than it was. We will not be revisiting.

we booked a slot well in advance for new year’s eve and received a message to say food was being prepared ! My husband and friend went to pick up meal ordered which was luxury seafood meal fir 4 with starters that came to 150 pounds with extra starters ! We sat down to eat and found half the food was missing …. by the time we had rang up to try and sort it out food was luke warm and the excitement of our special meal had flattened !!! Why offer this service if unable to carry out efficiently ! very disappointed and will not return !

One of the worst meals I’ve ever eaten, 3 of the 4 dishes we ordered were inedible. The aromatic veg skewers were literally dry stale carrot, cauliflower, mushroom and abit of tofu - they weren’t even cooked and completely tasteless. The staff never asked how the the food was even when they took the plates away- likely because they knew themselves that the standard of food was embarrassing. To make matters worse there was an ‘optional’ 10% gratuity added to the bill - never ever again Avoid!

Three of us ordered padthai and all three left it as it was far too sweet. I had the hot and sour soup for a starter and it wasn't great. Overall all six of us weren't impressed and certainly won't be returning. Such a shame as we chose this restaurant because of its reviews.

The place looks authentic. Service is good. Unfortunately the food did not live up to the promise. There was little flavour in any of the dishes. In fact the most flavourful thing in the entire meal was the mint chocolate we were given with the bill!

We walked in without a booking at about 7:30pm on a Saturday, and they sat us no problem - the food (we had set menu A) was absolutely lovely. Staff were friendly and efficient - we’d definitely recommend this restaurant.

What an amazing place this restaurant is, went as walk ins, which wasn't a problem as we like to eat quite early (6pm) , were shown to a lovely booth ,tables were available,staff were wonderful ,very attentive and smiley, the food was out of this world to say the least plus the decor was eye catching. Would highly recommend this place to anyone

This evening we had a birthday celebration at Thai No 1. The food was excellent and the staff friend,y and efficient and even though they were very busy they still gave us their full attention. A happy evening, we shall return.
