A good option for local senior citizens who struggle to get to the shops but not suitable for anyone else

We called in to this place while visiting family in the neighbourhood. We had agreed to meed my Granddad there as he goes there every week for his dish of homemade soup and cake. What a pleasant surprise, the soup is freshly made and so are some of the cakes, scones etc. Fantastic place to meet and stop for a chat and a bit of lunch. When I was there one of the soups they had on offer, was Gazpacho, chilled soup on a hot summer's day perfect. Then we get to the price, it is all voluntary donations, they suggest £1 for the soup & bread, 50p for a filled roll etc, well within everybody's budget.

There is always a lovely choice of two freshly made soups, and home made cakes. This week there were also filled rolls on offer. It is a lovely place to call in once a week for lunch, where you only pay what you can afford and any money they raise goes to charity. Give it a try..

I called in here to see what was going on, it seems that it is a charity supporting a couple of overseas children to get an education in Ghana & Cambodia. There are a couple of home made soups on offer with bread, cakes and hot & cold drinks, when I called in it was a choice of Minted Pea and Tomato & Basil soups. I tried both and they were lovely I also had some of their cakes which were also lovely. As it is a charity they simply ask for a donation so you pay as much as you feel appropriate of what you can afford. You can also order bags of fruit/veg at £3 a go and they looked very reasonable for the price. I will definitely call in again when my work permits.

This is a food co-operative run by St Catherine's church, to raise money to help children in under developed countries to have an education, they are currently sponsoring three children. Each week a group of volunteers provide a choice of freshly cooked soup, with bread a selection of cakes (Often home made) and a cuppa and all they ask for is a donation. The church does not benefit from the money raised it all goes to the children for who it is intended. There is also on offer fresh fruit & veg assortment packs including Stir Fry, Mediterranean, Salad, Stew etc. that you place an order this week and collect next week that always provides great value for money and variety.

This is our second visit to this little cafe. The first time we were returning from our trip to The Sofa Sofa showrooms further up the valley and were looking for somewhere to eat lunch. It was a Thursday - Roast day! It was such good food, excellent value and very friendly that we decided to return. This time we chose from the menu, which is fairly basic but with lots of choice. We both had gammon, egg and chips. Huge portions, beautifully cooked, and as before, friendly service. It is worth searching out if you are in the area.

We made a fair size order for a number of adults and we covered a lot of the basic items on the small menu. The Pros - Nice place and reasonably priced. Battered sausage was nice, gravy was pretty standard. The cons - Chips were pale, soggy, but tasted bottom end of OK. The pies are foul, tried a chicken and a steak and I can only assume they come from ALDI or LIDL, went in the bin. Irish curry had absolutely no flavour Battered pineapple was awful, soggy batter and rock hard pineapple, seriously, how did you manage to achieve that?! S
