Simply Thai Restaurant in High Peak

Everyone who loves Thai food should eat here. The food is as authentic as anywhere I have eaten in Thailand. The prices are very reasonable and the staff attentive and friendly. A must for Asian food lovers.

Wow, what amazing flavours. Being a fan of Thai food, myself and family decided to visit simply Thai during our recent visit to Buxton. We were greates at the door by a very friendly lady who took us to our seat. After ordering our food came out quickly and it was delicious. The restaurant was very clean with a nice atmosphere. I would happily recommend this restaurant.

Really good food and worth the wait for a table (booking recommended).

The food was quite nice, although quite average for a Thai restaurant. The service was friendly but very quick. We opted for a set menu and the starters arrived before our drinks. Once we'd finished them the mains were brought out a few minutes later. Everything seemed rushed despite the restaurant not being very busy.

Pre- show dinner, so only had a main course & coffee, but probably could have squeezed in a starter since the service was so quick. Green curry with egg fried rice & duck with ginger and plain noodles. All delicious, although could be more ginger in the duck dish.

Got a few bits to try, wasn’t happy with the chicken - it tasted rubbery and fake was a funny colour and quite tough, although the stir fried egg noodles (number 83) was very tasty. Chicken was horrible and not sure how they can charge the amount they do for precooked and microwaved chicken!

Tried the set meal for 2 absolutely lovely, partner also had a great cocktail. Will definitely use again

Ordered Ped Pad Khing, and despite the waitess being very professional and kind to offer substitutes of veggies and offered to put extra sauce, the dish was bland and lacked flavour. It's a shame, as the restaurant has a lovely decor, atmosphere ( gentle music) and again lovely staff.

My wife and I always visit here when in Buxton because we love Thai food and this restaurant is one of the best ones we have visited. Stir fry of very good quality, no searching for meat here, lots of it and good quality. My beef was excellent indeed and all well presented. Friendly and cheerful service. Rice and noodles fine and reasonable wine prices. No hesitation to recommend and we will return. Edward and Christina McAlpine

We visited Simply Thai last night for the first time, after wanting to go for a while and we were not disappointed. We hadn't booked so didn't expect to get a table but we were seated straight away, after being greeted by a friendly young lady. The menu is great, plenty to choose from, we opted for the set menu as we wanted to try a few different things. The soup starter Tom Kha Gai was absolutely beautiful, very fresh and tasty and not something either of us has had before. Then we had the mixed starter (picture below) this was again very fresh and tasty, my particular favourite was the chicken skewer dipped in the beautiful satay sauce (three dipping sauces accompanied the starter) Then onto the main, the most incredible, tasty, fresh dishes I've had in a long, long time, the red curry was my favourite of the three but they were all delicious. On top of all this incredible food, the service was outstanding. Polite, friendly staff were attentive but not fussy and the restaurant was lovely & very clean. All in all we had a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back 10/10

Finally! A Thai place in the UK that does a PROPER pad kra-pao. Spicy, dry, mince. Not big chunks swimming in sauce. Full of chillis. I nearly died. It was awesome. Would go back any time.

We have visited many times and have never been disappointed! The service is very friendly and first class, the staff are so attentive! The food is just amazing, we have tried many different options from the menu and have loved everything, the food is well cooked and delicious!!!! It is the best Thai restaurant that we have ever eaten at and by far the best restaurant in Buxton in our humble opinion! The set menus offer superb value for money. A must visit! We liked it so much that I have booked our next visit already.

Great Food, fantastic value. We had a late-ish lunch here last Sunday. We would have prefered to eat later and were travelling quite a distance to get to Buxton but this was almost the last slot before 2pm shut down. Fair enough. Great choice of dishes. Wonderful food. Two courses each. One from the set lunch (£18), one from the a la Carte. 2 large Gins, 2 pints and still less than £50. Only criticism. Hoovering and cleaning, ready for the evening service. Didn't bother us too much although you couldn't help be aware. That might intimidate others? Would we revisit. Absolutely. The food was absolutely amazing.

We usually eat here when we are going to the Opera House, it is convenient and the food is good. On this occasion the food was good as usual, we started with a mixed starter which was good although not as exciting as in the past. We chose main courses with 2 and 3 chillis on the menu but although we enjoyed them they did not have much chilli heat. After the waitress took our plates away we were left for about half an hour, nobody came to ask if we wanted anything else, not even the bill. Eventually we caught someone's attention and got coffees but the service essentially was disorganised, nobody seemed to have specific responsibility for us. We will be back, maybe it was just a bad night but please get the service better organised

Had a very enjoyable pre-theatre dinner here. Food was tasty and plentiful. Service first class. Wouldn’t hesitate to return.

We booked a table for five people for 7:30pm. We arrived on time but had to wait fifteen minutes before we could sit down. The service was average and sometimes they forgot things or took a while to get their attention. The drinks were bad, beer and soft drinks very flat. Food was ok, the starters were probably the better part of the meal. My main meal was luke warm and had too many onions and not enough meat (duck, #52). When served coffee, the waitress didn't bring sugar and the coffee was quite tasteless itself. Disappointing experience, I wouldn't come back that's for certain.

Stayed over in Buxton Sunday, 28th January. Had already heard good reviews about Simply Thai, so we decided to give it a go. By far the best Thai food I have ever eaten. The Green Curry and Coconut Rice was absolutely delicious. Staff and ambiance was impeccable too. Keep up the good work!

Disappointing is the first thought that springs to mind. We chose to eat here because of the reviews and a couple of local recommendations but we felt really let down. The menu was uninspiring and we asked a waitress advice about needing to order rice with one of the dishes and all she could offer was ‘it’s up to you’. One of our starters was incorrect (greasy fried chicken wings instead of ribs) and the thai green curry was really sweet with a few bits of hard, shiny chicken floating in it. My partners duck and crispy noodle dish was the only redeeming feature of our dining experience. We would not rush back and can’t understand why everyone seems to recommend eating here. We wish we had chosen somewhere else.

Can’t really fault it! Booked a last minute table on a cold Tuesday evening. Restaurant was full and buzzing when we arrived. Mixed starters to share were excellent. Well-priced bottle of Thai red wine. It was a blend, but really tasty. Main course we ordered a whole crispy fish, packed with chilli, mint, fish sauce and peanuts. And a mushroom and tofu salad. All in all a really good meal. And everyone around us seemed to be enjoying theirs too. Not cheap, but not particularly expensive either. We got two courses and a bottle of wine for less than £75, so fairly average for current high street prices. And the food was clearly fresh and good quality. Thanks to all the staff for a great experience!

Interesting culinary experience, fresh tasty and large portions, high standard

The staff are extremely courteous and polite. The food was absolutely amazing and good value. We were delighted to be able to have a Thai on a Sunday lunch time, there is a limited menu but good choice for £12.95 starter/main. Can't wait to return. Also the cappuccino are absolutely delicious, so much so I sourced the beans and now enjoy it at home. The beans are from Buxton Roastery.

Without a doubt the best Thai food I've ever had. I can't recommend it.

Lovely Thai green curry in pleasant surroundings, with staff that are helpful and pleasant. I'll be returning again.

Fantastic Thai food, beautifully presented on very decorative dishes. One of the best Thai meals we've had in a while, beats the trendy places in Manchester hands down. The yellow plum sauce with the starter was amazing and fish cakes good size and the taste and texture were perfection. We had green curries and they were excellent too and beautifully served. An added plus is the great selection of teas and desserts, including some Thai dessert options which are often lacking in other Thai restaurants. We'll be back soon!

Nice meal here, tried the set menu (£23.50 each) which included a selection of delicious starters, followed by red curry, stir fried beef in red wine and veg in oyster sauce, all good. Finished off with coconut pancake and banana fritter(not included in set menu), worth a visit and sorry I forgot the photos!

I'm a regular at this wonderful restaurant. The food is always consistently brilliant and always a warm welcome and friendly service.

Beautifully presented tasty Thai food, in lovely surroundings. A family feel to the staff. Amazing fish tank with live coral! Highly recommended. Plenty of veg / vegan options, and more can be offered by asking.

A busy night when we went and go shown to a table upstairs where we’d not been too before. The lighting was a bit bright but apart from that we had a fab meal, tasty and hot and very very spicy, Nice! Service was a little slow but still great especially considering the restaurant was packed.. and we can still see why.

By a country mile the nicest thai food I've had. The food is absolutely unreal and i can't wait to go back. Really nice atmosphere and really friendly staff. Only slight criticism would be the table attentiveness. Had to keep trying to wave at staff for more drinks or to get the bill. Would have been nice to be checked in on a little more!

First luncheon and was looked after very well. Food excellent and value for money. Lady serving me introduced me to the menu and suggested choices. Wish I lived in the area so I could be a regular customer.

My partner and I were attending a convention in Buxton, and I've eaten here before so took him to have a nice Thai meal for dinner. We had booked the evening before as all the other convention attendees end up in this restaurant on the Saturday evening and it gets fully booked very quickly. Our meals were tasty and fresh, and service was reasonable, considering how busy it was. The toilets are downstairs, I'm not sure is there is a lift but something for those with mobility issues to check before they book. All in all, very nice dinner.

Really good food but a little bit of veg would make it perfect

Thai food at its best... I love thai vegetarian food and I cook but can never get the same results. Even took a lesson in Chiang Mai... where to get the correct (fresh) veg in UK? Will definitely be going again, usually combine it with a visit to the Buxton Opera House.

We can highly recommend this Thai restaurant! We booked a pre-theatre 'slot' last night, All four of us thouroughly enjoyed our meals (starters & mains) & enjoyed the cocktails too, we had Singapore Slings & a snow white. Absolutely first class! We just wished we could have stayed longer instead of having to rush off to the show! Thank you & will return for sure next time we are in Buxton.

As always the food was very good although more chilli would be welcome and more authentic. Our favourite dish is the battered sea bass with an apple salad. Most restaurants use mango in this dish but the tart green apples work better I think but to be authentic this dish should have raw chilli but we had to ask for some. However overall the food was great, a good choice of wine and service was good. We look forward to our next visit

Sorry not great. Very ordinary more Chinese than Thai, raw chicken served on starter and the main was soup. Carpets desperate to be cleaned or ripped up. No one around so had to go up and make a point of standing at the bar to pay. Staff friendly and helpful but food not great.

Food was absolutely amazing, service was slow and staff were not attentive, we had to wait 20 minutes to order anything including drinks. We were sat upstairs and decoration needs refreshing.

Been wanting to go here for years and finally booked for our anniversary meal. All in all the food was delicious and will definitely go again, but if I could hope for a better service it would have bumped up our review. We were seated with menus and after 10 mins waiting had to ask if we could order drinks (usually drinks order is taken once seated whilst your view the menu) after another 15 mins wait I had to ask if our drinks were coming. They arrived shortly after but with no apology on wait time (they were busy but not crazy busy) I definitely think the drinks had been forgotten. Also throughout the whole meal they didn’t come and check if everything was ok (which is something we like when we go out for a meal - just courtesy and good basic service) we then had to ask to order more drinks whereas most dining experiences we usually get asked if we would like more drinks etc. small improvements to be made service wise but all in all food was nice, just expected a little more from the general service side of things

Ordered a takeaway. Paid £15 for prime beef . Got it home to find it was pure gristle. Very dissapointing. Dont often get to afford a takeaway and should of chosen elsewhere. Waste of money. Chicken satays were delicious however

We visited Buxton for the day including a trip to the theatre, we decided on eating at Simply Thai,what a great choice we made,staff quickly found us a table,made us feel welcome and provided a quick and friendly service.(Not rushed,very helpful) We opted for the meal for two,this includes starter of the normal,sesame toast,chicken skewers,won tons,spring rolls, and delicious pieces of chicken (Lime and spicy) the dipping sauces was really tasty. Then the mains included Jasmine rice,Thai green beef curry,mixed sweat & sour,and & vegetable dish,again all really flavorsome. Really enjoyed eating out here will go again next time in Buxton. Thank you ( A proper place to eat )

Excellent lunch time menu on offer. Really enjoyed our choices. Lovely 'Mocktails' too. Not so busy when we visited. I'm sure if you tried it you will agree it deserved to be busier.

I wanted this meal to be so good it was not .Thai fishcakes were soggy and tasteless and the chicken Satay was tough both reheated I guess !! My green curry was lacking flavour where was the lemon grass and lime leaves and once again the chicken was tough.

We have been here before and had a nice meal it’s never amazing but ok - so this time we were so disappointed as it was for my birthday meal before going to the theatre My husband ordered the sizzling chicken and I had beef in oyster sauce. Both meals came and my husband , thankfully cut the chicken pieces before eating it - omg it was pink raw !!!! Awful - so we told them and he had the choice to choose something else so had a beef meal - this too was red but beef can be eaten undercooked but it was so tough Now I’d eater my meal by the time my husbands came !!!!! On payment we said we weren’t happy but they said sorry and after us disputing the amount they discounted us 10%!!!!!! So the bill came to £47 !!!!! £47 for one meal really a starter and 2 drinks We don’t normally complain but this did make us contemplate the actual meal/service/customer service !!!!! The meal of my husbands should of been knocked off the bill !!!!! Such a shame but won’t be going again !!!!!

Very tasty Thai food, with a wide selection on the menu. Service was good even though busy. Definitely coming back! Only improvement would be more food on the starter plates for price.

The lunch menu is £8.95 for a main dish and £14.45 for a starter & a main Out with a friend, we went for the starter & main Starters, thai fish cakes and spare ribs The fish cakes, good not too spicy, served with shredded cabbage and a nice dip The spare ribs, the satay sauce was lovely Mains, beef with garlic & black pepper Simply Thai fried rice Drinks Singha beer and a Mai Tia cocktail. £40

We hadn't booked and despite it being a busy Friday night we were accommodated. Delicious gluten free vegetarian options. Friendly staff. Would recommend a visit.

We come regularly - sometimes as often as once a fortnight and sadly tonight just didn't really meet the usual standards. Early on a Sunday evening and we ended up waiting twenty minutes to have our mains cleared away and our bill paid. When we finally got the bill, the chap saw our card but kept avoiding our table. In the end someone who had just come on shift came over to take the payment. As we had had no previous engagement with him, it just felt clinical and odd. Sadly not a single person said thank you/goodbye as we left (which we know they always strive to do). Food was good (I wasn't a huge fan of what I ordered, but I deliberately ordered 'something different' so 100% on me). Seemed to be fully booked later in the evening and so perhaps the interim staff prior to the full-on evening shift were feeling a bit pensive about getting ready for the busy evening to come. First time not leaving a tip here, but looking forward to revisiting soon on a hopefully more routine day :)

Het eten smaakte voor geen meter Thais. De pad thai was niet pad thai waardig. Voorgerechten waren monotoon qua smaak. Hoofdgerechten leken op chinees eten. We waren zeer teleurgesteld.

Worst Thai I’ve experienced- greasy and chicken undercooked/ green curry like pale water and beef tough as old boots. Will not return. Fond of Thai food and visit Thai restaurants quite often but this was not a good experience

Visited here for the first time with a friend a few weeks ago. Lovely restaurant with mouthwatering food and friendly staff with efficient service. We both ordered from the fixed lunchtime menu and both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Great portion size at value for money. Will will definitely be returning in the near future.

Great food! Friendly staff and fast service. The dishes were seasoned conservatively to prevent them from being too spicy.

11 of us had dinner for my 40th. The restaurant was packed but the service was efficient and friendly. Great value food and drink and everything was tasty. We all have a wonderful evening. The mixed starters were great. Would highly recommend.

This place was lovely. The food was very nice and service was great. We had the green and jungle curry which were both very delicious, the jungle curry was quite spicy as indicated in the menu! The staff were accommodating - although fully booked managed to get us a table after 45mins.

Absolutely superb Thai restaurant - best Thai food I have ever had. We were tipped off by someone who said it was the best restaurant in the area and they came specially to Buxton just to go there! Lovely Satay & Pad Thai, delicious spring rolls and dipping sauces. The set meal for 2 is a very good way of trying a lot of things. The sweet & sour chicken was also particularly good. Everything tasted very fresh and just made, and service was utterly charming - someone always there when you wanted them, and nothing too much trouble. All so good in fact that after our supper there, we came back for lunch the next day just before we left Buxton. Highly recommended!
