Ruda Fish & Chips in North Devon

Don’t waste your money £4.50 for a large chips the portion sizes are shockingly small the batted sausage was cremated I had no intentions of cooking this holiday as I really needed a good brake away I think my plans have just changed rapidly such a shame

Please DO NOT waste your money!!!! The chips are awful bits of cardboard, I think the so called battered sausage had previously been used as a truncheon and then went through 12 rounds with Mike Tyson! Rock hard load of rubbish!

Ended up here when the little one was to tired to eat out, food took ages and tasted like it had been cooked far too long. Little one woke up screaming with stomach pain 5am this morning and my stomach hurts too. Can't guarantee it was this place but the food was not good so would avoid.

Can’t stress this enough, this was awful food. We bought battered sausage and chips x2 and curry sauce. When we got the food out of the bag the paper wrapped food had an unappealing weight and wetness. On opening, we found undercooked chips and sausages with soggy batter literally falling off. It was very unpleasant and unappealing to eat. We did try, but it went in the bin. The curry sauce obviously came out of a tin, as that was lovely. I am shocked that ANYWHERE in the UK let alone by the sea, can do fish and chips badly. The fact that there are so many other bad reviews amazes me, how can they be able to continue to rip customers off with such shockingly bad food? How can they knowingly serve it and take people’s money? Save your money. Please don’t eat here.

I think the way the chips are intended to be are home made hand cut but they are high percentage of bad ones, not to mention stone cold after a 3 minute walk from they shop (food wrapped and in August), service painfully slow but slightly less painful than trying to get a smile out of the staff, which incidentally there was only 1 trying to serve nearly a dozen people so guess I wouldn’t of been the chirpiest of people !

I have never had a portion of chips so awful. The taste, smell and even the size of each one. Do not go here. Especially at almost £4 for the smallest amount

Very expensive with extremely small portions & the worst "chips" I have ever tasted in my life! These were some kind of re-fried chips/fries recooked in a day or 2 old grease & were vile!

Terrible experience!!!! Very strange, took our order and vanished out the back, to return with my order wrapped up. Chips were nothing like chip shop ones, and very greasy. Fish was disgusting again. greasy batter and fish was grey. I wish id looked on here before going there. What a waste of money and how on earth they are not shut down!!!

Rather give it a 0 l, chips looked like they had been recooked a few times slimy greasy and didn't look like chips, They don't wrap them in front of you, if I had seen them would have asked for a refund, over priced for what you get as portions are small, which I was glad of this time as would have filled the bin quicker as most of it went in the bin

We visited park during bank holiday weekend. It was very busy and two staff worked extremely hard to get the food out for the lengthy queue of customers. The meal was okay and kids enjoyed it. I would recommend curry sauce as it was definitely better than runny mushy peas.

Wish I'd read the reviews before going here. Ridiculously high prices for very poor quality food. Chips were cold, greasy and slimy, I asked for plenty of salt, I couldn't taste any salt on it, the best part was the curry sauce, which was tasty and hot. The lady serving needs to learn how to smile too. Next day we went to Squires fish and chip shop a few miles away in Braunton, and got a boxed meal of fish and chips for less than I paid for a large chips and curry sauce here. And it was delicious. Definitely recommend you drive a few miles, for much better quality and service with a smile.

£7.49 for what could generously be called a fish finger. Fish was grey, as were the chips. Sausage was ok. Over priced and not very nice to boot.

In my 50+ years this has to be the worst fish and chips ever experienced. Let’s start with the chips - Frozen catering chips, you’d do as well just cooking oven chips and the cod, if indeed it can be called cod, was Grey. It was absolutely disgusting. Around £50 to feed our family of four. Total rip off for a truly poor quality product. Park-Dean Ruda should hang their heads in shame that they put their name to this rubbish. As per a previous comment, you do better cooking fish and oven chips from a Supermarket at a fraction of the price. Better still make a plan and visit the excellent Squires in Braunton. Save your money!

After a trip to Squires in Braunton (an outstanding fish n chip shop) earlier in the holiday I was undoubtedly lining myself up for disappointment heading into this camp site fish n chip eatery and whilst I’m not a big complainer, this experience needed flagging to pre warn others to think carefully before heading in. Without rewriting a War n peace style novel on the matter, the service is slow, the produce average quality and very badly cooked and it’s unsurprisingly expensive (name of the game being to milk the tourists). The chips are shovelled into a box the minute you order and placed under the sun lamp for 20 minutes whilst everything else gets slow fried out the back… the result being soggy and shrivelled warm chips served with overcooked (and disappointingly small if I’m being honest) fish and sausages. The dissatisfaction was too much to take so I headed back and politely asked for a replacement … the lady at the counter took one look at my below par fodder and agreed!!! Around the perimeter of Ruda bay park and in Croyde there are multiple food vans, cafes and restaurants that really are good quality, so it’s a real shame to see this place in a prime location with a hungry audience of fish n chip lovers at its feet offering such poor food, with little or no quality control.

Had fish and chips one night while staying at the holiday park. I have to say that it was good and decent value for money. If I did have a criticism its that the batter was slightly overdone however this could be down to personal taste. The fish though was lovely and we finished all of the four portions we bought.

By far the worst fish and chips ever! How do they make them so bad, the chips were so strange-like eating undercooked oven chips, the large fish was the size of a fish finger. The fish was mostly batter, my kid had a jumbo sausage, which was cut in half! I honestly don’t know how they get away with it! It’s not even cheap at £25. Your much better off buying battered fish from supermarket and oven chips and doing it yourself! Shocking! I just wish I had read the reviews first🙄

How can they get away with calling this mushy peas? It was pea water with about 20 peas in the water, so disappointing. The large fish was small and tasteless. The pies, chips and curry sauce were edible. Avoid unless you’re starving!

This is a pretty good option for traditional fish and chips and there are so many great spots nearby to wander off and have a picnic at.

Chips for a large group and they were terrible - barely fried or edible - better to go to Tesco in Braunton and buy oven chips and just eat them straight out the bag. Even the seagulls would not eat this rubbish.

It might be a one off but we waited 40 minutes for our fish and chips but the quality of the food was outstanding very tasty everyone enjoyed worth the wait keep up the hard work.

Very poor. Possibly the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Minuscule portions, the fish was tiny and the batter was burnt. Save your money, please.
