Lovely staff and service. Portions were ok. Maybe a choice for a larger or smaller portions at an extra or reduced cost. I had a roast dinner, which I enjoyed, I like mine a bit hotter. Desserts a bit expensive for us.

A family of 2 adults and 2 teenagers who had 3 courses including Halloumi Fries, chicken tenders, Burgers, Fish & Chips, Curry and 3 different desserts. Delicious food and drinks, reasonably priced (menu online), not one complaint from anyone which is very rare as the kids turn into professional food critics usually. We ate outside which was private, the chairs and table were weather worn and creaky (not really a negative) but the weather and food was fantastic. Will visit again but eating out is a rare occasion. Thank you.

Fish and chips were amazing. A large tasty piece of fish, with chips and peas. The hulumi kebab with vegetables, on flat bread was excellent too. Finished with cherry and apple crumble and custard. Yum

11 of us visited our favourite local pub to celebrate my daughter’s birthday and we had a great time as usual. I had the “Best Ever Pub Pie” that proved to be exactly that! Absolutely amazing food, good beer and fantastic service that I am very happy to highly recommend.

Beautiful food in a fantastic traditional pub. Village green out front and other pubs very close by. Great outside areas all round. Chicken ham leek pie outstanding with delicious veg, chicken burger great as well. Very nice chips

I travel down to Porthcawl from Coventry frequently and visit the Rose and Crown ever time. The food is excellent never had a poor meal along with excellent service. I would recommend you book in advance so you don't miss out.

If you are looking for "posher" pub grub, in a nice setting in a small village, this maybe the place for you. Maybe not, if you like a larger portion size. (We went to the chip chop after 😁)

We stopped off here after a round of golf having quickly checked out the distance and reviews. Nothing disappointed us. Lovely old traditional character pub with great food. We ended up having three courses! Very tasty nicely cooked food and great service. The only criticism I have is the cleanliness in some parts. Very difficult I know in an old traditional pub to keep it looking clean, but you could write your name on the large black fire canopy. Dust definitely been there a long time not a recent thing. Just a little attention to detail on cleaning, perhaps a deep clean or freshen up paint in some of the grubby areas where the thoroughfare is. Otherwise an amazing little pub with super tasty food which is faultless.

We had a lovely Sunday Lunch here. The food was tasty and hot. The service was excellent. Desserts were great too. It’s a lovely relaxing environment and The Cwtch was especially lovely.

Looked this place up Google while staying in the local area on holiday, what a find it was. Really good experience here, staff super friendly, food tasted really good at a reasonable price! Will use again when in area for sure!

What a find. We were recommended to try this place and we are so glad we did. The staff were amazing even though they were rushed off their feet. Our meals came out quickly and were perfect. Love the Pies😋 We will definitely be returning next time we are in the area.

Visited for my husbands birthday, had a lovely meal, in fact my husband said it was the best mixed grill he had eaten in ages…….service was very good, staff were very polite and helpful and prices were very reasonable as well, plus I was able to take advantage of their current voucher of 30% off mains…..overall a really nice night.

Absolutely beautiful pub which is well maintained and has such a rich history. Our room was fantastic with a view of the town green and the Farmers Arms, opposite. Very limited parking and had to park approximately 400 yards away. However, we were able, later on, to park outside the pub. Arrived early approximately 1:40pm with a check in at 2pm and were told that we couldn’t check in until the due time in a rather frank manner. So we went across to the Farmers Arms for a beer where the welcome was much warmer and far more hospitable. We returned, checked in and when we inquired about booking a meal we were told that a) from one member of staff that bookings were required and the restaurant was fully booked and b) from another member of staff that we could have a table if we were prepared to wait until 8pm when orders started to quieten down. So, unfortunately, we didn’t get the benefit of the 30% discount. We did have a nice breakfast the following morning but in hospitality sometimes it’s importance is often overlooked.

We went to R&C for my daughters birthday and as always we received excellent service, great food and a lovely relaxed atmosphere All the staff are without exception very pleasant and attentive, they are a credit to the R&C. The food was excellent and of great quality. Even my fussy eater grandson ate absolutely everything. The menu has something for everyone & my own meal was delicious and full of flavour. It’s clear the R&C has a great chef who cares about the food they serve. It was an absolute pleasure to enjoy a special birthday dinner knowing we would get great food and excellent service. Having stayed in various hotels in the Bridgend area, and been disappointed, we decided to try a pub with rooms. A busy pub with a good range of beers, and good quality but standard pub food. The room was basic, but clean. However the extractor fan in the bathroom was terribly noisy, as it took a longtime to stop after the bathroom was used. I am sure it disturbed the people next door too. Their extractor fan disturbed us. The corridors and stairs are very tired and in need of a refurb. Overall, good value for money but not luxurious.

This pub is a short walk for us from where we live . They have the best range of 00 alcoholic drinks including some lovely cocktails and soft drinks. We like it as on a Sunday they don't just serve a roast, as many places do and serve all day . My partner and I are not early eaters , always a warm welcome from staff and pub itself is always lovely and warm too , especially after a long walk in the cold winter sun ☀️ we have taken close friends there over Christmas and always have great offers, especially 30 percent off mains , but regardless of offers , find it good value for money

Great night, busier than expected for a Monday night. Large food menu with plenty to choose from and good range of beers. Food was quick and delicious. Dan & Emma were lovely, great service and appreciated the local tips.

Really nice classic pub in Porthcawl. The veggie Sausage and mash was banging!

Very disapointing. Special birthday dinner booked for 6pm. Didn't receive food until 7.20pm. No apologise or explanation was offered. The sauce I ordered wasn't ready for another few minutes and also the pineapple for the gammon was missed off. My medium rare steak was also very very rare. Since we had waited so long I didn't send it back due to thought of waiting even longer. We live in the village which makes this even more disappointing.

Lush! Great welcome. Made the whole family feel right at home. Dealt well with the fussitarians in my family (Vegans and Gluten intolerant). Quality of food was excellent. Handled a shortage of stock with one choice very professionally resulting in a happy customer.

Went here for lunchtime on new year with friends, eight of us in total. Food was ok, quite average, but the beer was awful. I ordered a pint of San Miguel and had to take it back as it smelt as if the lines had not been cleaned for some time. Barman was polite and did not argue, poured me a different pint but the smell was still there. Tried a different brand and in the end went onto gin and tonic as all the lagers were really poorly kept. To be fair, this is unusual for this pub, they might have just had an off week, but I had a bad stomach as did one of my friends. Went to the Farmers instead of staying in the Rose for the afternoon which had been our plan. Disappointing.

Such an absolute gem in Porthcawl! Our servers Morgan and Olivia were amazing, 10/10 service and we couldn't ask for more 😍 We had two sirloins that was were cooked perfectly and the peppercorn sauce was lush! One of my favourite places for a cozy night out and the atmosphere is just what you want for a little date night! 🩷 thank you!

We stayed 3 nights over "twixmass" and had dinner and breakfast. The pub/restaurant couldn't be faulted. The service was superb with all staff really kind and attentive. The food was first class too - tasty and plenty of it. Testament was that the place was packed every night with diners and drinkers - excellent beers from Brains Brewery. As an old pub - it was two cottages (Rose Cottage and Crown Cottage) we didn't expect 5-star accommodation but we were a little disappointed. Decor upstairs was looking a little shabby (just a lick of paint needed) and the fixed shower head over the bath in our room was difficult to use and like most accommodation these days there was a complete lack of drawers for storage. Having said that the location was excellent, with free WiFi and easy parking and the staff superb so we may well call again.

Just before New Year's told us the bar was closed, a minute later kicked us out for not having drinks?

We had a lovely evening. A great table served by a wonderful waitress. Food was excellent including the pudding, but if I have to criticise, more crumble on the crumble and more custard in the jug LOL.

Very busy pub on a Sunday evening, so recommend booking. We enjoyed a very good meal together, with some nice beer to wash it down, and friendly staff. The Sunday roasts were especially worth having, with plenty of freshly cooked vegetables, and nice roasties! Perhaps the wait was a little long, if you happened to be in a hurry, but why would you want to be, in a traditional country pub, especially when the food is clearly cooked to order? Reasonably priced for the quality.

Wonderful food and ambience , my daughter decided to join us after our meal with friends, so we retreated to the bar, where there were a few girls & boys there about 10 of them, sure there was a couple underage, they were rude, very loud and didn’t care about other patrons! I would have thought that the staff could have had a quiet word with them but didn’t, we left our drinks and left, the volume of their voices was so distracting it hurt our ears, another couple left too! We would have stayed but ended up leaving about 9:30-10 so very disappointed

Last Sunday, I ended up visiting Porthcawl, and to finish the day (on a high note, I might add), I was invited by my friends to check out the pub. The place is extremely cozy, and the staff is exceptionally polite and helpful. As for the orders, I tried the Steak & Ale Pie as my main course, which was wonderful and came in such a generous portion that I couldn't finish everything that was served. For dessert, they recommended a classic sweet: Apple & Berries crumble with custard. I left almost rolling from eating so much. To accompany the meal, an Ale beer paired perfectly. I forgot to take photos to include here in the review, but it's an easy place to find and offers very delicious dishes. For those who have restrictions or preferences for vegetarian or vegan dishes, they have excellent options. Without a doubt, it's well worth it!

Everything was perfect. We were greeted warmly at the beginning we were shown to our table and our drinks order was taken quickly. Our drinks arrived and we made our order. Only a few items weren’t available but they weren’t something that we would’ve chosen anyway.The staff was very knowledgeable about the menu. Our food arrived promptly and tasted delicious. We even stayed for pudding which again were very high-quality.
