We were a group of nine from England visiting family and were looking for an early dinner. We chose here because they had a good gluten free menu which two people needed. Genuinely can’t fault this restaurant, from the service, Ellie May was our server to the food, the decor and the value for money. I note that a few months ago there were a couple of reviews that mentioned the portion size had reduced and it had got pricey, this was our first visit but all agreed the portions were huge and was excellent quality and value. The double pork chop was a particular hit but the ribs were great as were the burgers and the GF options were fab. We ordered about 5 sides but were probably a bit over optimistic as sadly couldn’t eat it all!

At one time Roos Leap was excellent food and reasonably priced. Now they are overpriced. Depending on what you order the quality and quantity varies. I had the Big Bob and was very tasty but pricey for a burger at £25.99. The Katsu Chicken was a big disappointment to one of our folks. I had a wee taste and wasn't impressed. The portion sizes were smaller than in the past. Over all the food was overpriced for what you get. The saving grace was the excellent house staff. Very attentive.

Roos Leap has always been a great place to go for lunch or dinner. Sadly they appear to be pricing themselves out of the local area. This is a restaurant in Montrose not London. The prices have sky rocketed and portions have reduced. You can’t help but feel very cheated. Yes costs have gone up everywhere but the price increases at roos appear to be more greed than to meet current global price increases. As mentioned in other reviews a Monster Bob burger is almost £30!!!! And nothing like what it used to be. With prices like that roos is exceeding chains like The Hard Rock and TGI Fridays. I think they are forgetting they are in a small Scottish town not central London. People will stop going and with even more competition opening just last weekend I think they may start to notice people are going to go elsewhere. The sad thing about price increases is they are unlikely to ever go back down. Listen to your local community.

Prices are absolutely mad these days at this place!! £28 for a monster burger! And it’s no longer a monster! Lots of the dishes are lot less on plate these days for what you are paying .no in a hurry to return, and I’m hearing same thing from many others .see what you think . Also the staff are like at you every 30 seconds to ask if your ok and need anything…….why so regular??

Have visited Roo's Leap for many years, but I have to say that every time I have been recently, the food has not lived up to my expectations. The staff are lovely and attentive, the restaurant itself is nice, but I feel, especially in my most recent visit for lunch, that it has become vastly overpriced. My Teriyaki chicken burger lacked flavour, there was barely any teriyaki sauce, and the chicken was dry. My friend and I shared a bottle of mediocre wine which set us back £34. I would like to see a more moderately priced lunch menu, as paying nearly £40 for a disappointing burger and half a bottle of wine is not something I will be choosing to do again!

In the area on a whim and, since we’re Scottish Australians, decided to see if Roo’s Leap could fit us in. Being Easter Sunday the restaurant was pretty booked up but we were offered a table in the lounge which was great. Delighted to see a dedicated Gluten Free menu, presented In a lovely folder. There was a fantastic amount of gf options including gf beer-battered onion rings!! Family all had burgers which they loved - the 19 year old managed the Monster burger but it was a challenge, even for him! Don’t hesitate to go if you’re in Montrose - super tasty food, and a lovely laid back vibe.

Nice location, excellent staff and nice food but vastly overpriced for what was on offer, both food and drinks: £31 for a bottle of Pino Grigio is more than a bit cheeky. The restaurant was very busy, possibly because there seem to be very few places available for eating out in Montrose at this time of year. Not an experience I will be repeating.

Wow! I cannot say enough great things about this place. Was in Montrose for the week on business, and went to Roo’s Leap 3 out of the 4 nights. Great selection of food, was very impressed by the separate veggie/vegan menu as I found the veggie options at other places tended to be just a veggie burger or similar. I had the mediterranean open sandwich with roasted cauliflower, veggie santa fe wrap and the veggie cajun pasta. All of my meals were of excellent standard, some of the nicest food I’ve had in a long time. Portion sizes were generous for a good price too. Staff were amazing, so friendly and really quick service, they couldn’t do enough for me. Atmosphere in restaurant was great and as a solo diner I never felt weird about sitting there eating alone, nor was I made to feel like an inconvenience or rushed through to fill my table with a bigger party. Absolutely wouldn’t hesitate to return if I ever find myself in Montrose again - I can’t recommend it enough!

I’ve been travelling a great deal recently and in most hotels you can order a burger, that in my opinion is no better the one you would get from a McDonald’s! You need not worry about that if you order a burger at Roo’s Leap. I ordered the ‘Blu Steel’ Burger and without doubt this has been the best burger I have tasted in many years. Being a frequent customer for special occasions at Roos leap, I was appalled when given the bill this time. £7 for a large lemonade and fresh orange, I can buy each in litre size and pay less at a store. I’m very well aware of price increases to make up losses due to covid, as I personally work in hospitality. However this is a very dramatic increase. The staff were lovely and very welcoming could not fault them. The food was delicious and served very quickly. The surroundings and the procedures put in place to follow the guidelines were great. We visited Montrose yesterday and wanted somewhere to eat in the evening. Roos Leap arranged for us to eat outside, but our plans changed. We spoke to Jack, who sorted out a change of time and location, including our dog, without any fuss. He was polite, helpful and very efficient. On arrival we were given options on seating, had the Covid measures - which were excellent - explained to us, and had the menu explained. All the staff were wonderful. Kayla in particular looked after us amazingly. The dog was never so pampered, as were we.The food was fresh, flavoursome, well cooked and plentiful. Had dinner here recently. Due to the current situation there didn't seem many interesting places to eat in Montrose so we chose this restaurant as it was near to where we were staying and we weren't disappointed. Quite the opposite in fact. What a great find. The ambience/decor was great and the staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. There was a mix up over my husband's choice of beer but nothing was too much trouble. They took it away, gave him a sample of another to try then served his preferred one in the lobby area where we could have a drink before eating. Waiter was attentive but not overly so and the food was delicious. Pity we were only there on a short break or we would certainly go again.

Had the most amazing potato skins (however I would suggest a little side of bbq sauce for dipping) and mozzarella melts! For main we had the juiciest burgers, had asked for them to be cook through but they remained full of flavour and juicy! The best was yet to come however in the form of the banana sticky toffee cake, what a masterpiece, just needs a little more sauce! We left fully satisfied and very very happy! Bravo all

This was the first time we have back since lockdown and were a bit concerned about social distancing. Where we were seated, there did seem to be the required 2m around us. Been going to Roos Leap for many years and this was probably my 15th+ time. The food was excellent as always. In fact the visit was extremely similar to all the other times, which normally would be a great thing - however during these Covid times this made me and the family extremely uncomfortable. We came up the stairs to the bar area and cautiously moved through the 10+ people waiting in this small area, could barely see the staff member leaning round the pillar but sighted them through the people. We were lead through the restaurant and it was absolutely packed - looked like the same number of tables as always and some large tables too. We were lucky and were seated at the one table which seemed to have a little bit of space and this and the fact the kids were starving was the only thing that kept us in there. OK, the thought of the dirty Spaniard burger also helped. Staff were wearing masks and menus had been replaced with QR codes, so clearly some considerations had been made. I did see someone cleaning the tables (rather swiftly...but some attempt was made). It was very noisy, and the bar area was equally packed on the way out. Much as we love the food we will not be going back until some provisions are made regarding occupancy and the bar area traffic, or even better the risk subsides. What I find even worse, however, is the lack of respect for the safety of patrons and staff the manager seems to be exhibiting. Reading the responses is absolutely shocking. There seems to be a complete dismissal of genuine and justified concern, and I find it abysmal that there is a pretense of caring for the staff, given that the best way to care for them, their family's, customers, and the community is to consider covid concerns very carefully and make some amendments.I seriously hope some changes are made so that we and others may enjoy the food and service during some sometimes otherwise bleak times.

Excellent for cooling down on a sunny day. We had Korean pulled pork nachos to share, really good. We then had various burgers and chicken meals. I had the Aussie burger which comes with a fried egg, this is how all burgers should be. The chips were nice and crispy. We were delighted to hear Roo’s were back and ready to operate a pick up service. We’ve missed certain restaurants during lockdown and being able to have a few of our favourite meals has brightened these last few weeks. We’ve always enjoyed the food at Roo’s Leap and we were intrigued to see what their pick up menu would entail. We knew Coronavirus has impacted many hospitality businesses; from the social distancing implemented at workplaces, to contact free delivery and reduced menus, so we weren’t sure what to expect.Well, Roo’s did not disappoint. They clearly advertised through their extensive social media following, showing what they had implemented in order to protect their staff and customers. The online menu had been reduced, but there was plenty of choice and mention of certain items being switched around to ensure customer favourites would appear as specials. We had no problem choosing, between us both we ordered a cajun chicken starter, chilli dog and cajun chicken sandwich both with fries, plus an onion ring side. Phone lines are currently open Friday-Tuesday between 12 noon and 4pm, for a 4.30pm-9pm meal pickup. It took us some time to get through on the phone as both lines were busy, but we were warned this would be the case and to keep trying, which we did. We were not disappointed. Kayla answered and took our order, she was polite, friendly and professional despite this being the reopening and the start of an extremely busy day for them all! Her manner reflects all the staff at Roo’s; polite, professional and calm under pressure. We arrived and parked up outside the restaurant in good time for our pickup and our delivery was taken to our vehicle perfectly on time. We noticed the staff were friendly and smiling despite the rain. Our order was perfectly packaged and survived the 12 minute drive home and unboxing. We plated it up and enjoyed it thoroughly.Oh, and we received the trademark Drumsticks to finish! Overall a 10/10. We were not particularly surprised as we’ve never been disappointed, however we didn’t expect the first day back of reopening to be as seamless, especially as Roo’s have had to adapt their business to fit current guidelines. This was a prime example of great management and a strong hardworking team. The planning and work ethic of all the staff really shone through today. We do miss the atmosphere and experience of dining out at Roo’s and other restaurants, however in these trying times a collection service really suits us.We were so happy to see Roo’s reopen and hope they receive the support from the community that they deserve.Thank you very much!

The menu caters for everyone and food is amazing, great portion sizes and good quality food. There was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant also.

A really fantastic place to get an exceptional burger and the Viking Sauce (BBQ sauce with crispy bacon bits) was delicious for dipping the fries. The staff were warm and friendly. Despite the place being busy we were seated (party of 4) within 5min. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Excuse the Aussie title pun!, Never been before and fancied something a little different for Valentines Day, reserved a table a few days before. Easy to find in Montrose beside the beach really colourful & well lit restaurant. First thoughts were very clean, tidy & modern with Australian/Kangaroo theming: Staff were very friendly and sat us down in the waiting area as it was very busy being Valentines Day. Took our drinks order and showed us to the table, quite a small restaurant but plenty of room and not claustrophobic, well varied menu from steak & burgers to Australian themed chicken and starters. Plenty to choose from so picked the “Mississippi Burger” and asked how I would like it done which is good as some might not like it well done ha! Girlfriend had Nachos, then the Steak Frites: In no time at all the Nachos came out full of cheese and salsa, when the steak came out it was cold so unfortunately had to send it back. The Staff were very happy about getting it all re cooked so that it could be perfect, my burger was fine but didn’t realise the BBQ sauce had pickles in it so sort of ruined it but still ate it. All in all it was a great experience and would be back very soon, plenty of items to choose from and Creme Brûlée for desert was the icing on the cake... delcious! Quick service happy to rectify anything that’s wrong, very large portion size. Happy days!

After years of being in operation it is still great place to eat. Had a Philly cheese stake sandwich and it was great. Service as usual was good as well.

I visited with a school party a few weeks ago for lunch, the orders were taken promptly and the waiting staff were very helpful. The meals arrived in 25 mins, which for lunch, felt a little long. The food, however, was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed by the whole group. The only negative would the the over priced meals. I understand that high quality food should be reflected in the price, yet when a meal costs £12, paying another £2 to add chicken seems a little excessive.Overall I would recommend visiting the restaurant as it has a brilliant food, staff, atmosphere.

Visiting Montrose on a spectacular Scottish winter day we booked here – location was perfect for our trip to the golf course. In fact the restaurant seemed to occupy a previous clubhouse.

This was an extremely friendly restaurant with a very chilled, relaxed atmosphere. We arrived with our dog and were seated and welcomed cheerily. A bowl of water appeared for the dog and waiting staff were super efficient. Food was adapted to fit our specific dietary needs and everything we ordered was delicious. Prices were pretty good and portions were a substantial size. We will eat here any time we are back in Montrose. :)

Found this place on the sat nav, pure chance and what a fine Linda had the Xmas special turkey Wellington and it was delicious, I had a cheese burger and it was great as well, definitely highly recommended, obviously quite popular as there was a constant stream of customers entering and leaving the place. Staff good too. Will be back next time we are in the area.

My husband and I had lunch last week. The Santa Fe wrap was delicious as was the blackened shrimp dish that he had. The food is always good here, but it's the fact that the restaurant is now dog friendly (at lunchtime only, & in the bar area only) that makes this a stand out place for us to eat in Montrose. No more having to leave the dog in the boot & worry whether it's too hot/cold for him. Thank you to the Management for making this decision & the staff for always welcoming our little dog.

Visited with another couple, on a very busy Saturday night, unfortunately we were next to seven noisy women who wanted the whole restaurant to know their conversation.

A slightly surprising interior to a very traditional building overlooking Montrose golf course. Wide ranging menu with "Real" burgers, on decent buns and fairly generous portions. Good that they have a separate GF menu, from which veg quesadilla was chosen and very tasty. Other veggie dishes on main menu weren't GF. Service good, prices perhaps a wee bit higher than other places, but location may account for that. Certainly was very busy the day we visited.

Excellent food and service would recommend anyone to go. Friendly helpful staff and tasty food. Good choice of different types of gin although the waitress wasn’t sure about the best mixers for the gins. Make sure you book at the weekends as it can get busy. Will go again.

I have eaten here a few times now, usually for lunch and have food the food to be really great! . It might not be Haute Cuisine but it has a unique style all of it's own. Everything is really well cooked, great ingredients, great attentive service and everything clean and tidy. It's also really great value!!

I came in for a lovely meal last night with my family overall the food was amazing very tasteful and a very nice Aussie theme however I noticed the owner having a go at one of the staff about glasses on tables I find this very unprofessional and the poor girl looked humiliated this was a big downfall fair enough behind closed doors but in front of your customers I find that appalling but other than that it was a nice visit and would come back again

Another meal at Roos Leap that was excellent. An unplanned visit on Sunday teatime and it was very busy. We were offered a table in the bar/waiting area in around 45 minutes, but which actually became available after about 20 minutes.
