The food's no more than a par, the staff a double bogie. The pleasant & polite middle aged man in front of me had just been unceremoniously kicked out by the staff because there's no indication of how many customers are allowed in at a time - despite half a dozen staff bunched together without a single fask mask among them, including delivery drivers storming in and out muttering and swearing under their breath in front of customers. I asked for one of the fish slices from 2 double fish suppers to be wrapped separately for me to take for my self-isolating elderly mum. Obviously, this was completely impossible and I might as well have asked the lady to explain the Monty Hall problem in Swahili. No, I'd have to pay extra for 1 fish supper and an additional fish, instead of just wrapping one separately, which would be completely out of the question. As would providing the correct change, it would seem. Unfortunately, until the fish & chip shop in Kessington reopens, you're stuck with this one.

I try to steer away from reviews as i am normally the one who will avoid any sort of issues,however,i feel this time i need to vent my annoyance at Romys having used the Takeaway on many occasions and also ate in the Italian restaurant.I have used the delivery service from the Fish and Chip shop on 3 occasions throughout the lockdown,the first one i had the same issues as others with an estimated delivery time not being reached and phoning to be told the order is next to go out and will be there shortly,then to have to phone again.The 3rd time was this evening ordered through Uber eats,estimated by 7-30pm,by the time i got through on the phone it was an hour late and i was eventually told they had just recieved the order.RUBBISH!!,younger staff having to apologise and tell lies to cover up for delivery times they obviously cannot deliver on.I have to say the food is always really good but don't use the delivery service.i'm now having to go through the refund procedurewhich isn't instant and also my partner and i are now very hungry!!

Been going here for years as really local to us, but service has gone down hill rapidly. Don’t ever deliver on time on just eat & always without salt & vinegar, despite repeated requests. Straw that broke the back was that they have stopped serving Italian Pizza’s on the weekend i.e. the only time you would order pizza. Go to F Pizza.

Pedí para la entrega, y me cotizaron entre 30 y 50 minutos, eso estaba bien, pensé, después de esperar una hora y sin entrega, llamé para que me dijeran que mi comida era la próxima en salir para la entrega, así que dije que estaba bien, pensando que estaría conmigo en 15 - 20 minutos, no, ese no fue el caso, llamé después de esperar una hora y media para que me dijeran nuevamente que mi pedido era el próximo en salir, para cuando hubiera recibido mi pedido habrían sido 2 horas, así que les dije que lo cancelaran. qué vergüenza absoluta, el chippy no es tan bueno como para esperar 2 horas, todo lo que obtuve fue una disculpa rápida, un servicio al cliente absolutamente terrible, la molestia de tratar de obtener un reembolso y un niño con el estómago vacío.Esta no es la primera vez que pasa esto, en una entrega anterior tuve que esperar casi 2 horas por mi comida, pero pensé que debía darles una segunda oportunidad, qué gran error fue ese, nunca más.Habiendo mirado las revisiones anteriores, también deben usar la suya es la siguiente en salir como estándar para cualquiera que llame para averiguar dónde está su entrega.No pierda su tiempo usando a estos tipos, vaya a la pesca perfecta, mejor comida y mejor servicio al cliente. Le daría 0 estrellas a Romy si pudiera, pero obviamente tienes que poner una, no valen la pena.

La comida es muy buena, la entrega es una broma! Usted llama y la respuesta es sí entre 30/45 minutos de entrega, está bien, la comida es buena, ¡puedo manejar eso! 1 hora más tarde llamo y la respuesta es: sí, ¿su comida está próxima a salir en 20 minutos? Food excellent — however since my order was less than £10 I was charged 50P surcharge on my debit ( not credit ) card pretty sure this is illegal however it’s certainly immoral based on current Government Covid advice - will go elsewhere in future

Obviamente, debido a Corona 19 tienes que esperar afuera ya que solo se permite una persona en la tienda. Yo era el segundo en la fila, así que pensé que me servirían y me irían al menos en 10 minutos. . . oh no al menos una hora después todavía no tenía mi pedido. En primer lugar, la tienda está tan ocupada preparando comidas de entrega que parece que le dan esta prioridad a la gente que espera afuera. Cuando finalmente entré, pedí una pizza y 1 cena de pescado, me dijeron que solo una pieza de pescado por súper, ¡así que decidí pedir dos supers de pescado! ! Luego me dijeron que esperara afuera hasta que mi pizza estuviera lista. 20 minutos después todavía estaba esperando, llamé la atención de la mujer a cargo, luego llamó al restaurante de al lado para ver si estaba listo. . . . ¡no había sido ordenado! ! ! Luego me dijeron que serían otros 15 minutos. . . . no, no lo fue. . . . ¡Tomó otros 25 minutos! ! ! ! No volveré.

First time at Romys and having waited 8 weeks during this lockdown I can honestly say best fish n chips ever .... lovely friendly staff .... thankyou x

I occasionally visit romys, and would you believe it.....? I've not seen one promotional offer, disgraceful right? Terrible customer service almost reminds me of prison

This will be my last visit to what was once a well renowned and excellent ‘chip shop’ , with staff (5) outnumbering customers standing waiting on already given orders (3) , I was straight in to give my order....Staff member (1) takes my order and tells staff member (2) ‘steak pie’ - staff member (2) relays this information to staff member (3) who throws the steak pie from one heated section to the other, staff member (1) tells staff member (4) who nervously operates the till ‘steak pie supper’ , staff member (4) rings this up while staff member (5) who appeared to be the boss hovers in the background directing the play, all a bit of a farce really.Anyhow, a standard steak pie supper, (with the smallest portion of so-so chips I have ever seen) ,a can of Irn Bru and a dry roll came to £7.25 ! ........ although that did included a chargeable sachet of brown sauce and a carrier bag..... at least I know now who’s paying for the new shop relocation and revamp.....Over-staffed, overpriced, and underwhelmed, will not be returning.

Went in earlier tonight with my partner there was ONE person being served. 5 staff working 3 staff at the till area 2 young boys and a woman. Waited for a bit until someone actually spoke to us. Woman lifted her head to say 'be with you in a minute' We waited and watched the THREE staff members work on a take away order. We eventually walked out. Shocking service

After waiting over an hour for home delivery I was told it could be up to another hour for home delivery. After being told this I decided to go down to Romy’s (less than a mile from my house) to collect my order. On arrival at the shop I had to wait another 10 minuets for an order they knew was being collected as no fish was ready....

Sometimes you just want a bag of chips and Romy’s Has been serving excellent fast food for over 30 years.

We have been going to Romy's for years. The food is good but since they have opened other restaurants the service has fallen off a cliff. We preordered a pizza so we could have it ready when we arrived. Advised 15 minutes. When we arrived it was in the hot plate but they refused to serve it and we had to stand in the queue. 15 minutes later we still hadn't been served so we asked again can we JUST have the pizza. No! Wait in the queue. This was another 15 minutes and bone dry when we got it.

Very good food local chippy not much to say but Fridays are a no go as it's very very busy waiting to be served a while in small area so if it's raining outside and your at the back of the queue get a brolly.

I’ve been going to Romy’s for 20 years. The range is exactly what you expect from a fish and chip shop. The premises are clean, and food is cooked to order. Good selection of ice cream and soft drinks. Only criticism is that sometimes the chips could be a bit crisper.

Having to wait a ridiculous amount of time for fish and chips and not very friendly staff. Far better takeaway places around the area.

Esta es nuestra segunda visita a la nueva romys, y será la última. El personal era amable y simpático, sin embargo, soso, grasientos pescado con espinas y pasta basura. Patatas crudas, que eran un poco pasada y por el precio, el tamaño de la porción es pobre. No es el peor que he probado, pero hay sin duda mejores. Recomiendo ir a otro sitio.

Así ha sido a Romy de unas cuantas veces, ya que la comida es en general bastante buena, sin embargo el servicio al cliente no es. . . . . Pensé que ellos. dar el beneficio de la duda y vuelven algunas semanas después de ser recibidos de nuevo con el servicio de atención al cliente es muy mala y un servidor con un problema de actitud. Estoy seguro de que hay otros que sería feliz comprada para llevar a mi dinero ganado duramente y quizás incluso sonreír, no volveré!

He estado en el "viejo" Romy antes se trasladó a pocos metros de su ubicación actual y siempre encontramos la cantidad y calidad aceptable para el precio que pagamos. Sin embargo, durante una reciente visita a el nuevo establecimiento me decepcionó mucho en el tamaño de la cena de pescado que me dieron y, en retrospectiva, debería haber se negó a aceptar. Los insignificantes pescado era sólo 6 ins (150 mm) de longitud y muy delgado. Fue alsocovered en pasta y no sabían que también fue buena.

Nuestra familia son asiduas en Romy pero que no volveré después de esta noche. Tuve una cena de pescado y el pescado estaba realmente mal (casi) todos sabor químico probado y acordó así mi marido tuvo que volver. No había disculpa, no hay reembolso o...

Home Delivery- Won't Use Romy's EVER AGAIN, Food was Very cold & Chips were Re-Heated. Yuck Rubbish.

Romy's really needs to sort out its telephone ordering system and decide where its priorities lie. Previously those who ordered by telephone had to thencomemin and stand in the queue - which presumably made ordering in advance rather pointless. But on a recent visit, some people who had ordered over the phone went to the head of the queue -makes me wonder, if I stand outside and phone an order in, can I skip the queue? Additionally on a recent visit the shop was quiet but the staff (some of whom can be very surly) spent 25 minutes sorting out delivery orders while my husband stood and waited. Food is usually good but after many loyal years I'm about to vote with my feet.

Lovely fish suppers for us on the night of the house move. Fish was excellent and the chips were superb. Yes I would use this place again, without hesitation.

Great new chip shop venue .....a few doors along from original shop. Just treeless their glutten free fish in batter .think I may even prefer it to original batter.,

Not my usual chippy,but went in for my elderly parent who lives nearby. Food seemed good, and my Mum prefers this chip shop to any other.One big negative for me, was the girl who was placing the fish and chips in the wrapper, touching them,shuffling them about prior to the salt and vinegar. She was wearing chipped nail polish and quite a few rings. This is a big NO NO. My kids work/worked in McD's and they are very strict about nail polish and jewellery. Work with food?, no nail polish or rings please, they harbour bugs and germs!

Started going to romys as the fish n chicken gluten free. 7.40 for a fish supper. Scandalous. Asked if they could do kiddies fish supper kids didn't even get a drink n a toy. The fish was so tiny also. Must admit gluten free fish was nice but so is other places like mcmonagles in clydebank. You hardly got any chips with the suppers either. Total rip off. Won't be going there again

Well known established chip shop I've used for years. Tonight I was shocked at the red headed staff member who moaned at a customer and colleague whilst serving. He has a terrible attitude.

We normally have fish and chips once per week and it has always been fresh and we find that one fish supper with be enough for both of us.

I ordered a take away from Romy's only 2 hours ago and was shocked and appalled at the behaviour of Ralph the frier. When an elderly gentleman in the queue behind me enquired about the portion size he was met with a rant about how his expectations were unreasonable and that "he should try and catch fish out there, it's dangerous out on the trawlers", Ralph did go on for some time about how the price of fish was expensive and that if he could get more for his money he would pass it on. I initially kept quiet even after Ralph started again when the gentleman ask a further question.After I paid, I quietly mentioned to the bewildered gentleman that I will be going to the Milngavie chip shop in the future and which point Ralph felt he had something else to say and interrupted my conversation. To put it on record and to reiterate my opinion it is appalling that anyone feels they can speak that way to anyone young or old - Ralph you need to learn some manners and grace and I'll say once again "behave yourself".The food is ok but is expensive.

Been our local chippy for years but recently had an unfortunate experience with a member of staff who had very bad attitude. Phoned to ask for a chip steak to be put on but was told 'never heard of them, don't do them'. I thought that was strange because we have ordered them previously, numerous times. Decided it must have been someone new and drove there to speak to them in person. The attitude when I enquired about the chip steak was unbelievable! I never cause a fuss and only asked a question as the meal was advertised on the leaflet and menu. The girl kept looking at her friend as if it was all my fault. Very disappointing and has really put me off! Food is usually fine but the staff need better trained in customer service.

So you phone to place an order to be told they don't do oven baked pizzas?! Hmm yes they do and they use their restaurant next door to oven bake. Arrive with 3 people in front of me however I can see the pizza is ready and waiting to be picked up. A pizza that is charged restaurant price. When I wait for a polite pause in orders to try and pay for the pizza I was told abruptly "you need to wait in the queue". Really well that may be so but I am sure it could have been said in a better manner!

Absolutely awful fish and chip shop. The "fish" was in fact at least 80% batter. There was no flavour only the taste of batter that had been kept hot too long. We keep giving this place another chance but this time enough us enough. With the prices they charge it's time they used good quality fish instead of palming us off with this very very very thin white layer of ????? What exactly it is I have no idea.

Gosh the reviews aren't all that great for here already. I Should have come on and had a read before I went . Anyway i Stopped in for a fish supper to be given some flimsy looking, over battered and half cooked fish that smelt off to be honest. The chips were clearly reheated . The place itself lacks any form of atmosphere . The staff ..one whom I can only presume was the boss .. dreary eyed, sour faced and very rude , you'd think he'd just been slapped with the fish going by the look on his face . I Definitely would not go back here. I'd spend the extra time and fuel and go to jaconellis in Maryhill for the best chips and gravy you'll ever have . Better yet go to the petrol station and get some crisps they'd taste better and youd at least get service with a smile.

Good selection including the rare for West Scotland white pudding. Always good quality and large portions but queues can build up and staff are a bit snooty.

Fish and chips are ok, but no betetr than other local options. Two bad experiences have lost my custom - the first was whenI asked if they did smaller portions of chicken nuggets for children. I was told what the full portion was - take it or leave it. The second fall was when I asked for a fish supper (usually two small pieces of fish and chips) to be told that I could only buy a small fish supper (one piece of fish with chips) and buy a single fish to make it up. Good ploy for charging extra, if it does leave customers dissastified. Fish and chips were ok, if expensive. But there is better customer service elsewhere.

Recent poor reviews are not unexpected.Last year the Local Authority completed a very expensive road 'improvement' that turned four lanes of traffic into one lane each way and bicycle lanes and the result has been disastrous. Now you have to stop behind buses when they stop at bus stops ( and passengers have to cross the bike lanes!) and,at Romy's, one very seldom finds a parking space. Before the roadworks we used Romy's regularly but I would guess we have only been able to find room to stop/park only once in the last two years! No wonder the 'Wee Chippy' in the same block has closed - I wonder how long Romy's can survive? Last Thursday between 20.30 and 21.00 we passed five times without getting a parking space, gave up and went to the Burnbrae. On the way there two bikes in front of us - one crossed against the flow of traffic to get into the bike lane but the other stayed on the main road holding us up and cutting out in front of us on the hill at Kilmardinny!Sorry Romy's but we will not be back

Was told by a couple of people this is the best place for fish and chips - well I think it was maybe once good but is now just taking people for granted as the offering was poor. We had to wait, which wouldn't have been a problem if the result was not so mediocre and the chips had been stored in a lukewarm oven while we waited for something to be cooked - they did over have lots of staff. Just generally disappointing and with the surly service from some (i hasten to add not all) made it an unpleasant place to hang around.

Generally Romy's is a fine fish and chip shop but tonight we bought a double fish. The fish was so thin there was hardly any there. What we had was mostly batter. This is a very poor show for what is a fairly good chip shop. At almost £5 we feel we've been right ripped off. It's likely that others have been given similar fish to us when they bought fish tonight. A poor show.

Romy's used to be really good, a step above. The fish has got thinner and isn't as tasty. The chips are good, but you will wait, it's not cheap and service is poor as everyone avoids eye contact. Certainly not bad, just not as good as before.

Picked up a fish supper and a pizza crunch on the way home a couple of evenings ago. The food was nice but had to wait around 15 minutes for the pizza crunch that I had ordered. Also thought it was pretty expensive for what you get. Overall there was no real issues and I would have no problem going back.

Food not bad but not as good as The Wee Fry that used to be a couple of doors down! Wish it was still open!!Waited 40 minutes the other night for a couple of special fish suppers! So many people serving and nothing seems to happen! They have someone who gets your food, then passes it to someone else to wrap then there's one who takes your payment....why so many people?

Wide range of items that are found on many chip shop menus and also some more unusual things too. All good quality but prices are pretty high!

Went in for fish suppers and fritters. Fairly hefty prices were increased further this week because of the poor weather, so that wasn't a great start. Fish was ok, but the two pieces were really thin. Chips were good, but fritters were soggy and could have done with a bit longer in the fryer.Enough salt was added to ensure you won't cramp up for a fortnight. Won't be rushing back.

I've now given up on Romy's. The food is good but the last few times, despite phoning my order in advance I've had to wait as long as if I had never ordered. Oh and don't send the kids in to do the pick up. The last 3 times my daughter has been completely ignored and I had to go in after her.

I bought a fish supper and half of my chips were good and the other half were chewy reheats. The batter on the fish was really thick. I phoned to complain about the chips and was told that I was mistaken but they couldn't offer an explanation. A few weeks later I returned, I entered the shop and the was one customer waiting for something and 5 staff behind the counter standing doing nothing. After several minutes nobody had acknowledged my presence so I left. Not only is their food bad but so is their attitude.

like my local chippy this shop tends to keep customers waiting while the staff make up the phoned in orders. the fish was good BUT like many chippies in the Glasgow area the fish is a thin slice. My fish supper had two pieces of fish and in my opinion a very small portion of chips (I ordered a extra portion of chips) The fish and the chips were good and I will return to try some thing else off the pretty impressive choices

i love romys when im at my mums house in milngavie we always order from there we always pick it up and it always tastes great the staff are really friendly, and the prices are really good. you can get everything you usually get out of a fish and chip shop i would recommend this to anyone in milngavie or bearsden

I bought a special fish supper from Romys on Friday 11th Sept, after reading the reviews. It was a big let down, the special fish was not what I expected, the batter crumbled as soon as the knife went near it, it was soggy and the chips were nothing special as was the fish. Perhaps I went on a bad evening.

Very good food at a reasonable price. Had the mini breaded fish supper and was excellent. More than enough portion wise.

If you like Scottish fish and chips this is a place to go. Busy but efficient and pleasant staff and all the standard food plus some special fish and a pizza oven.

Decided we would try Romy's rather than our usual chippy. £16 for 2 fish suppers and a bottle of irnbru. Wouldn't mind but there was more batter than fish!

We have used aromas for many, many years and usually when we can't be bothered making a meal.My favourite is the chip steak.mthe best I have tasted anywhere.Great staff and always clean and fresh.

Whilst the fast food served is fine, its the fact that everything is cleared away so early in the shop. I often pass by at nine or nine thirty often , they have to cook whatever you ask for. this cracks me up as I can do that myself, I was trying to save time but instead it takes time. So its an ok chippy, but life goes on after the watershed!

Ordered 110 fish suppers from Romy's for a function and they were delivered bang on time as requested and the service from Ralph and his team of girls who served up sauces,salt,vinegar,pickles etc was first class.Fish suppers were their usual Romy's high standard.Best in Bearsden by a country mile.

Right next to Hillfoot train station this is the best chippy around u cannie whack it for choice. Very nicely priced menu & service with a smile

Good fish and chips.Also we had chicken and chips. What more can you say ! Parking at Hillfoot can be a nuisance due to the local council trying to improve it !!

This pplace came recommended. On the menu were small and normal fish suppers - the difference being one or two very small pieces of fish. I ordered a normal to be told - only selling small, but you can have another piece of fish as a "single" without chips. More money for what was advertised on the menu! And very average food. There are better chippies in Bearsden and Milngavie. Try the Wee Fry a few shops along. Romys is well over-rated. The staff very not unfriendy, but not friendly either. Felt ripped off for very average fish and chips.

Visit family in Glasgow and it is a MUST to have fish and chips. Truly scrumptious. Worth every penny.

This was my local until I decided to boycott it out of principle!!!!!1st time....waiting in a long queue I asked the servers to put two pizzas on so by the time I got to the front they would be ready. I was told to wait my turn!! WHY???Last time....I wanted a chicken supper but conscious of my last encounter I just waited patiently until the head of the queue where I asked for chips only with gravy. Where she promptly poured it over. When I told her I wanted it on the side in a pot I got 'looks' and charged an extra 70p!!!So not only did they lose a chicken supper sale they have lost my business completely along with my family and friends who are now boycotting this place. I look forward to hearing a lame response from the owner!!!!

Stopped here for fish suppers last Friday on way home. Waited in queue only to be told when we reached the front that there were no chips and the place was closing at 10.30...on a Friday night with the surrounding area buzzing with people going home from the Commonwealth Games! Offered fritters as a substitute...no thanks. Very friendly and apologetic staff but we won't be back.

This place is great. The best fish and chips around. Ran to total precision will quick and efficient staff. No waiting around in here! Fresh lovely fish just the way it should be done.

You cannot go wrong with Romy's if you want a traditional fish supper. I always go here on every visit to Scotland. I went with my daughter on June 20th, and we both got small fish suppers and sat at the window and ate them. They gave us forks and napkins and we thoroughly enjoyed our food which was fresh and cooked perfectly as we watched the world go by out of the window. You will not be disappointed if you eat here.

Romy and Family is a local institution and has maintained a very high standard for years. The food is always delicious and the fish is restaurant standard. The service is amazing. The staff are cheerful and professional never get flustered and never forget an order even when the queue stretches out the door.

We have been customers of this fish and chip shop for many years now. It is always a firm favourite of mine if having a take away. Food excellent, in my opinion. It is good to see that since the owner's retirement and the subsequent takeover by his daughter and son-in-law, the shop has maintained its high standard of service and food.
