Had dinner here after a hard day of riding up the hills. Brilliant service and super tasty food. Discounted food bill when paying for parking onsite too which was a bonus

The owner is irritable with rude attitude, while his wife is a nice person. My friends and I asked him if we can use the toilet, he told us it is custom only and allowed us to use. I politely thanks him and said I can buy a drink, even though he refused with an angry face. When I had finished and waiting my other friends outside the building. He angrily go out from dining room and told me:”The facilities are custom only, you are rude.” I tried to apologise but he just head back to the building. One of my female friend and I were still waiting for others standing outside the building. My female friend was hungry and tried to eat a cupcake she brought when we are standing far away from their dinning area outside the building. He came out again and shout at us:”You use the facilities and now you eat your own food!” I apologised again and said that I can buy some drinks and food. He refused and rudely asked us to leave. I said OK and go downstairs and tried to wait at the car park. He came out again and shout to me again from the terrace railings:” You need to leave!" He doesn’t even allow me to stand in their car park. It is so unacceptable. After he left, even one of their customer came comfort me and think he might be biased. I am really angry about his attitude. I am ok to buy some drinks or food to thanks for using toilet. But why this rude attitude and trying to ask us to leave. We were only stayed in their area for up to 15 minutes. This is racial discrimination. Moreover, when I tried to go back and explain that I didn’t see any reception from the door I entered, and I was never tried to challenge him or to be offended. He didn’t even let me finish my words and said:”You need to go now.” This person is so rude and can’t even have an adult conversation. Then his wife came out from the kitchen and tried to listen to me patiently, which made me feel more respected. I explained what happened and thanks for her understanding.

Staff were super friendly and very helpful. Perfect place for a stay whilst mountain biking in the area. Bike storage available and a bike wash. Great food and fab beers. Beds were comfy and it's so nice to have a warm shower after a day on the trails. Highly recommend.

Room very nice and clean. We stayed for two nights and had breakfast too. Very tasty. Nice room interior, fast internet. Can get a bit cold in the room, even thought we were there mid August. Very nice area, we would love to come back and explore more. Spacious parking area.

Our family of 4 spent a week at Riders Retreat and we had a fantastic time! We had everything we needed with onsite access to Glentress trails, onsite bike rentals, restaurant and bar. It was great to come back for food and drinks after a day of riding and the breakfasts were terrific! Murray was welcoming, friendly and very helpful. We spent most of our time onsite, on the trails and in Peebles and could've stayed another week to explore the area more.

What a great little place at the foot of the trails! A warm welcome, even though we arrived close to the end of check in time. Great breakfast and nice family room. A perfect rider stopover as muddy shoes and muddy bikes are welcomed as a sign of a great day! Just what we needed!

Couldn't have asked for more from a place to stay and go riding. It's the details that make the difference like the warm welcome we received, bike wash and storage facilities, tasty food and drinks, amazing shower, comfy bed, and the ability to make a good few cups of tea to warm up. Thanks for a fab weekend... we can't wait to come back!

Called in for some food. Was quite expensive I thought at £20 for a farmyard stack which was quite small served with a small portion of chips. It was tasty though. What really surprised us was we were charged £9 for 2 cokes, which is the most I've ever been charged for 2 soft drinks. I wouldn't go back for this reason.

Our main place to go to when we are down in the Borders especially riding at Glentress (literally on the doorstep of the trails) Food is always good and Murray and his team are always helpful and free to chat when they are not busy. Lovely selection of cakes and food are available.

Very friendly place. Family room warm and cosy after v v wet mountain biking at Glentress - plenty of hot water and warm beds. Filling breakfast and evening meals. Not v cheap meals but reasonable enough in today's world of inflation costs - 2 x kids meals (+added veg) + 2 x adult mains + soft drinks + x 2 ice creams = £80. Might suggest RR add veg to children's meals rather than having to buy side dishes? Super convenient for Glentress trails. Would stay again. Thank you. NB if travelling by bus the bus stop back to Edinburgh is 500m back towards Peebles and not opposite bus stop as marked by Google maps and suggested by (well-meaning) staff member.

We had a fantastic stay at Riders retreat. Murray and the staff made us feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble. Room was great, food was amazing (chips were top draw, not to mention the burger!), secure lockup with power to charge the ebike, great vibe, nice tunes and what a location, right at the entrance to Glentress bike park! We also hired an ebike there. They just have everything you would need and more. We'll definitely be back.

Popped in for light lunch and decided on the field mushroom filled with haggis smoked cheese together with crispy potatoe and fresh mixed and dressed salad which was off the starter menu. All I can say is what a stunning clever dish. Wonderful and priced well. Thank you.

A warm, friendly welcome walking into a tastefully decorated hotel was nice. The room was spacious, well decorated and immaculate, as was the rest of the hotel. Evening meal was plentiful and well cooked in a pleasant dining room. Breakfast had plenty of options and very tasty. The staff really make sure you are well looked after in this lovely hotel. Mansfield house certainly lives up to its 4 star rating and we would happily stay here again.

Pizzas had far too much faux mozzarella making them greasy and stodgy, and so little topping you could hardly taste it. Bases were not at all crispy.
