Porters Bar & Restaurant in Dundee City

I thought the chips and onion rings had been reheated. They were very greasy with no potato and no onion in the rings.

I booked Porters for my mom’s 80th birthday and was so impressed with the whole process. The team were very supportive of our large booking (35 people) and as I submitted our order in advance the food was piping hot when we were ready for it. They supported with putting up decorations and setting up a cake table. The servers were very lovely. The food was very good quality and not a single complaint from the table. I would definitely recommend Porters for a party or special occasion! Thank you!

I think it is a place with potential but there were a few things that made me rate it badly. The first thing I didn't like was the food. I ordered a Caesar's salad which by default cannot be bad. However the chicken had a terrible smell. So terrible that I put it aside and after eating fast I asked the waitress to take my plate because it was really smelly. I told that my chicken was smelly and what I got as an answer was something like it is normal because of the plastic wrap. 15 years as a butcher I have seen this smell only to chicken that has gone bad. In my opinion this chicken shouldn't have been served in the first place. One more thing that was not nice is that no one apologized for this situation which as a professional you should do. The drinks were good but besides that I would say that this place needs a lot of work to become as the reviews suggest it is.

Overall it was ok apart from one staff member who was so rude because couldn’t remember what the round was she was ignorant when I came back she totally ignored me then said how much have you had to drink and kept on rearranging the fridge with her back to me won’t be back

We had the best steaks we have had for many years, and we have steak reasonably regularly in Australia and whenever we travel! The quality of the meat was good and they were cooked to perfection. I had mine blue, and my wife had hers medium rare, so the chef certainly knows what he is doing. The rest of the food was also great, good chips and onion rings. Service was prompt and friendly. We will be back for Steak Night! In the end it was more than a year until we were able to eat here again, and the quality of the food is just as good. Keep it up, guys.

The food was good / OK, although there is still a lot of room for improvement. The portion size was also manageable. The service could have been better. It's hard to say, everything worked out, but in other restaurants the service comes across better to the guest. When you consider the price...

Starters were lovely but it changed for main course. Mixed up steaks - staff need trained on how to deal with issues. Even when paying bill, manager was very abrupt. Won't be returning.

Having just left this Restaurant. Poor manger. I was given the wrong steak I asked for med rare my wife asked for med well done with peppercorn sauce. the waitress asked who was the med rare then give to me only to find that she had given me my wife's steak and verse a verse a. my wife thinking that her steak was hers then poured peppercorn sauce on steak. Mistake happen but the way it was delt was wrong. No apology from the manager she hid. I got my steak 2 mins later more blu then med rare cold onion rings once I received my food. The manager came across and asked if we like anymore drinks Still no apology. She kept looking across. I could not eat my steak or the rest of my put my napkin over my plate. we asked for the bill was never asked how our meal was until we paid £96 .70. Don't go Poor manger Hiding behind her staff

Eighteen adults and two kids had tea at Porters and the food piping hot, absolutely delicious and great portions. The staff ere so attentive and polite . Had a great meal and no complaints as everything was served all together and enjoyable. Thank you Porters for a great time.

Decent food, very quiet for a Sunday evening but it does lack a bit of atmosphere

Have been to Porters a few times food a d service usually good. Went today at around 3pm to be told the kitchen was closed till 4pm. Cannot understand this as restaurant was busy and people were eating. 🤷‍♀️. Poor service. Puts us off going back

This restaurant is a real nice surprise. The dishes were very good (without being exceptional), and the cocktails were truly incredible. For the cocktails alone it's worth going there actually. And it's always nice to see that the cuisine and the service are not left out either!

Got taken as a treat for my birthday. I had stk pie but was mostly fat. Husband and daughter had steaks which they weren't impressed wi. Staff friendly.

Recently had lunch with my daughter she had the Mac and cheese with chips then a brownie with ice cream fair to say she was satisfied! I had the steak burger and chips with onion rings everything was perfect staff were friendly and helpful would definitely recommend 10/10 all round!

Sunday afternoon for lunch. No reservation but table available for 5. Nothing wrong with service today, nothing wrong with food. All mains enjoyed and side's. Generous portions including children's meal. A Sunday carvary was on offer which other tables had however we went for the main menu happy to come back again. Signs say menu change of 12th April. Will be interested to see changes.

The servers seemed to be new and were pretty inexperienced but very friendly. Experience comes with time but still, I would suggest a couple more days of training!

This is a lovely setting and staff are very friendly. Unfortunately our meal wasn't so good. The steak was overcooked and the mushrooms which were served with it were raw, the waitress agreed. The macaroni cheese was average but the kids chicken goujons went down very well. The cheesecake portion was huge and very tasty. Unfortunately the service was slow and another table who ordered after us were served well before us and the waitress was surprised we hadn't had our food so had to chase it up. Its a shame, reviews seemed positive and its a lovely looking place but we would not return.

Really nice wee place. Menu is small but really good quality food. Much nicer than your average 'pub grub'. Staff were fairly friendly, atmosphere and decor were both warm and welcoming.

Food was so good. Our server (the Irish girl) was friendly and polite. There wasn't lots to choose from but for us that's a bonus. No sitting for ages trying to choose simething. The pepper corn sauce was amazing!

Best steak pie I've had in ages.

Have eaten here on a few occasions since being in Dundee. The food is absolutely excellent and the atmosphere is nice too. The staff are very friendly, though some often look a little unapproachable, maybe due to being so busy. Would highly recommend them and fully intend to visit them again when I'm next in the city.

First time there nice food good service and Good atmosphere

I cannot fault how lovely the restaurant was, the food was amazing but the service was not good at all. Me and my dad arrived and was asked for a drink order, we waited 15 mins for our drinks. We ordered and got our food quick which was nice but we were not asked during our meal weather everything was OK and after we finished we sat with our plates infront of us for nearly half an hour and I was looking for members of staff but there was a waitress sitting on her phone leaning on the bar. We wanted to order more drinks and desserts but it was taking far too long. I ended up having to get up from my seat to find a way to pay the bill and when we left our plates were still sitting at our table. A good opportunity to have made more money but with all your waitresses on their phones, this didn't happen.

The food and customer service are really good, the sirloin steaks were cooked to our satisfaction and the waitress was very welcoming.

Was in the area on business, met up with some colleagues, one of them recommended Porters. Glad he did, food was great, we went on steak night and they were lovely.

We went for a family birthday meal as a party of 13. They asked for a £10 deposit per person and asked for our orders before hand. This allowed them to provide excellent service and they even accommodated those that wanted a last minute pudding on the night! Super friendly staff, really approachable and attentive. Every single person was delighted with their meals and we all said it was the tastiest meals we’ve had. Don’t feel like you need to go with your “safe” meal choice because they’re amazing at absolutely everything on their menu! We all had an amazing night and will defo be back. Thank you!!

Essen war gut. Ambiente auch. Service war professionell, sogar so professionell, das ich dachte ich bin eigentlich kein Mensch. Technisch war der Service ok, aber ansonsten gar nix. Woran das liegt ist nicht meine Aufgabe zu ergründen, ich kann nur sagen...da ist enormes Potenzial.

Poor performance on every level. Especially the service, the waitress we had was rude and unprofessional. If the people make the Business, the wrong people tarnish it. Perhaps we would have had a better experience a different night with different staff.

Seemed a nice a place to eat but it turned out the worst one. Spent £45 pound for a meal and £60 for parking charge. Terrible experience.

Went today for a work lunch it was hands down the best chicken Caesar salad and side of chips ever. I have tried loads of places for this dish and was very happy. Others had Mac and cheese, prawn cocktail, hot salmon baguette etc.. brownies for dessert which they assured me was delish. Will be back.

Went for the first time with a friend for lunch. I got the steak and chips and for dessert I had the sticky toffee and ginger pudding, I don't like ginger normally but thought I'd give it a go and I'm happy it wasn't overpowering with ginger and was just a hint of it. My friend got the the macaroni and chips and vanilla cheesecake and she liked them as well. The staff were very professional and friendly and very attentive. The price was on the higher end however the food matched the price. Will definitely be back

Went ordered 2 steak and ale "pies" which is 6-8 small pieces of beef between 2 phyllo flaky pastries with seasonal veg and chips and gravy which should be called the tom Brady gravy since it carried the meal definitely not worth its price they definitely need to add more meat to the meal

Came here for my friends 18th birthday meal and we were all not impressed. The food was lovely i’ll give them that but the service was appalling. One waitress even had the cheek to roll our eyes at us when we asked for tomato sauce. Whenever we asked for another drink it took about ten minutes to appear even if it was just a tap water. Over all the food was lovely but the service and the rude staff were horrible. Definitely will not be coming back!

Lower rating simply as it was early but a lovely looking restaurant with great service and we can't wait to visit in the near future.

Booked a table for 6 for Xmas night out. Was told the table would only be available from 16.00 to 18.00 due to a party night after it. Company from various locations across scotland, arrived just after 16.00 to be told they may not be able to fulfill the booking due to staff breaks. Eventually managed to secure a main meal with the possibility of perhaps if we were lucky a quick pudding!!! Finishes our meal before 17.30 and were told that we could not get a desert. The brussel sprouts were as hard as the waitresses heart. Terrible experience and will not be back. This review only has one star as I had to press that to access the review process. Bah humbug to Porters

Have been in Dundee on several occasions and have always dined out. By far,Porters scores top marks in every area,especially food and value for money. The staff were absolutely excellent and service was extremely friendly and capable. Definitely return visits are very much on the cards. Thank you.

We finally got around to using our vouchers we received at Xmas lol, very impressed with the food it was excellent and plenty of it. Service was first class as well, with friendly staff, a most enjoyable lunch.

730pm Thursday 25/8/22 turned away by a young girl. Said that there had been a power cut and they didn't know if they'd be able to cater for us. The place was half full, no sign of a power cut and people seem to have food on their tables. They just simply couldn't be bothered with us. I hope the owner sees the review. You turned away a table of 4 probably worth £120. Furlough. The staff simply have grudge that they have to return to work, but they don't want to be busy.

One of the best restaurants in Dundee, Angus steak was amazing. Usually, a reservation is not required. The only flaw is the location, not in the city center

Previously had steak pie here which was delicious - lots of steak and gravy in a dish, with a puff pastry top - however, I can see from latest offering that they are keeping prices the same, or increasing some slightly, but lowering standards at the same time. I have never had a steak pie which looked more like a ciabatta roll, that consisted of a small pastry base, a small amount of steak/gravy then a pastry topping. I would rather restaurants increased prices to cover their increased costs and kept the same standards, rather than give me the impression I am being ripped off. I love the atmosphere here and food generally is of a very high standard, but come on guys don't try and fool your customers.
