Penguin Cafe & Pizza in Ceredigion

I would rate it 4stars before but after last order I wouldn't recommend that to anyone, pizza is expensive, cheap frozen one would have more topping, even if you chose to double it as we did. But nothing would change the look like something died on it. We tried to return, they said they can redo one of the pizzas because it was so obvious that it looks s####y, second one was normal they said. We didn't accept it, they went extremely rude and angry, tried to force us to take it back and leave. 0/10 Avoid at all costs

Whenever I want take out, penguin pizza always hits the spot. Perfect pizzas! To literally die for 😍 the custard slices… the best you’ll EVER find! Love this place. Thank you staff for all your hard work in creating delicious food

What used to be a cafe has now changed into a Pizza restaurant which also delivers . With their authentic stone pizza oven a great pizza is able to be cooked . We are regulars here as it is a great place to eat.

The ubiquity of pizza makes it hard for pizza makers to make something memorable but Penguin have easily cleared that hurdle as once again, my whole family had the best pizzas ever courtesy of Penguin’s skill, ingredients and superb service. If there was a TripAdvisor award for the UK’s best pizza, this place would be a strong contender for the top prize.

This place was recommended by the staff at the Castle Hotel. Excellent call, guys. This is without a doubt the best pizza I’ve ever had in the UK. We ordered online and the order arrived on time, in a little under an hour. My partner and I ordered separate pizzas and both of us were floored by what we got. They were made exactly to our customizations. The taste was phenomenal, with lots of spices and great crust. Both pizzas were overconsumed that evening, and we both finished our pizzas for breakfast the following morning. Highly recommend this place, eat in, takeout, or delivery.

Starting off, entering the store you are greeted with a server who clearly lacks any enthusiasm for his job, secondly I had to wait 10 minutes past the time of collection, thirdly they forgot my drink and there where no bins, wouldn't recommend to anyone

We ordered the bbq chicken, jalepeno poppers, chips and nuggets. All was very nice, the chicken nuggets were the best part. The sauce pots were 50p and absolutely tiny however so we had to buy a sauce bottle from convenience store. Would recommend if you're in the area looking for easy pizza tea.

Looks awful, tastes awful. A child could have tried harder. Looks like it was thrown together in under a minute and barely sat in the oven. I can’t believe I spent £9 on this and I want my money back! :(

Visited Aberystwyth on a long weekend. There were not many places open. Went and ordered from here to takeout. Pizzas were quick, hot and really nice! Highly recommend!!

Ended up here after waiting for over 90 minutes for food in the “Upstairs at The Pier” and leaving. The pizza choice was plentiful and cooked fresh in an oven. The staff were more than helpful and polite. Very tasty pizza but one was slightly over cooked. Apart from that if I want a pizza in Aberystwyth then I will head straight back to the Penguin.

The overall visit was brilliant. The weather was warm and the family sat outside. The pizzas were delicious, the chips were crispy and warm. The milkshakes were cold and refreshing. I wish I could take the restaurant back closer to home. Oliver aged 9.

So I never order pizza, ever. I’m a Seafront Palace/Fusion King obsessive but caved to the carbs tonight. After the usual “how is pineapple normal on pizza” debate I gave in.....and I must admit was pleasantly surprised. Thin, crispy, authentic pizza, straight outta Italy (or the oven, whatevs). Chips were heaven in a bowl. Highly recommended, and that’s coming from a usually anti pizza eater. Nice one Penguin Pizza, we’ll be back.

We visited for pizza and it was yummy! Lots of different toppings to choose from and different sizes. Portions of chips were huge. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

From walking around the Aberystwyth beach, myself and my husband decided to come here for a burger. We qued up until my husband was served at the counter. We had both ordered a cheese burger each a chips to share.Unfortunately, I did not take a photo as I far too hungry.I would certainly return again.

my pizza was completely burnt. when i call back the restaurant and asked for a refund they said they don't have refund policy. will never return

it took 1.45 minutes to deliver a pizza to 2 minutes drive away address. There was no answer to the phone when we called to ask about our order

Food here was very nice, however a little slow and disorganised. A wide choice of food for all ages and reasonably priced. There’s plenty of restaurants in Aberystwyth and if Penguin upped there game then it would be great.

Excellent pizza in a flash! Cooked in their pizza oven, this traditional thin crust pizza was such a treat! We all enjoyed it - kids and adults. We had it to take away. Definitely recommend.

We ate in on a Saturday night and took our own bottle of wine. I ordered the Pear, Gorgonzola and walnut pizza while my partner opted for a more conventional meat topping. Both were absolutely delicious having been cooked in an enormous and most impressive traditional pizza oven. The bases are thin but chewy rather than brittle and very tasty. The chips were also very crispy but we failed to finish them as we had over ordered - the pizzas alone would have been sufficient. The staff were very friendly and the service was great. I would recommend a visit (or take away) and will definitely be eating here again.

I had a birthday meal at the Penguin which turned into a suprise party. The pizzas were amazing, the staff couldn't have been more helpful and the service was quick considering there were 30 of us! Took our own drinks and they provided wine glasses etc and were so helpful in every department. We had just returned from Italy and the Penguin's pizzas are equal if not better. Everyone agreed they will be returning : ) Big thank you to all the staff for making my Birthday special - Oh and to my daughters for arranging the suprise : )

I & family have been in the city as tourist and we for lunch with family been in penguin for lunch we haven burgers & pizza , it was very delicious and fantastic food I eat in my life.it was pretty clean with very friendly stuffs.

After a day of driving and moving my partner into her new flat food was needed. With time ticking on we knew pizza would be a great shout. To be honest I have not seen this pizza place before so decided we would have to try it. I had my usual biggest pizza served with no cheese and with what ever veggies can go on.

We found this little gem as we were strolling around. Ordered a pizza to take away and it was probably the best one I have had. Made fresh and is cooked in a traditional pizza oven. Very friendly staff and the pizza was ready in a few minutes. Will definitely visit again.

We visited on a Sunday evening with friends. The pizza, garlic bread and fries were delicious but the highlight of the night was the freshly made tiramisu. Absolutely fantastic. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Definitely a place to visit in Aberystwyth and great value too. Thanks very much.

This place is really easy to describe. Pizza was delicious, service incredibly friendly and it was surprising that they can make a real pizza faster than I can put a frozen one to a microwave. I'll definitely come back!

Probably the best pizza in Aberyswyth. Good staff as well. However, to make this a really good destination restaurant you need to completely change the interior decor. With the correct interior you would clean up in this town...beware though that Pizza Express is coming!

The Penguin has been a part of Aberystwyth cafe scene for over 60 years and is still a great venue for a coffee or lunch break. Very close to the main shopping area.

Great pizza and good value. Definitely best in town. Cheeseburgers are quite nice too. Will definitely be a regular here :)

Such a disappointment! The reviews and recommendations from friends made me want to try these pizzas so much, the pictures look amazing, however what we received tonight through Just Eat was not like what’s seen in the restaurant, why isn’t it the same!

Just tried penguin pizza for the very first time. Was very delighted to experience a good Italian pizza for the first time in a very long time here in Ceredigion. Great sauce, great crust, great cheese. Enjoyed the Margherita! Excited to try the other flavours!

Perfect place if you want to get your pizza fast and delicious. The homelike atmosphere and comparatively low prices for high-quality food make this place perfect to visit more than one time. I highly advise to give them a try.

The best pizza in the town :) It's so delicious that you can finish a whole 16' alone with almost any topping you can think of. The carrot cakes are so fresh and light aswell. Delicious! I can't wait to come back!

ovely fresh rolls made of you choice and also what size rolls you would like and there custard slices are great very popular they are a must to go and have one.

Well, having read previous reviews I had to visit to see for myself which I did on Friday mid afternoon which was our last day in Aber. Absolutely amazing is all I can say for the custard slice. In fact, I wish I had not tasted it now because I am not sure if I will have the need to visit this area again. My partner had the lemon cake and we also shared a warm sausage roll to begin. Lovely friendly place and would definitely recommend.

Me and the wife often shop in Aberystwyth and park in the town and go into the Penguin for a bite to eat.The cakes and sandwiches are freshly made and staff very friendly.

This place has locals coming in every day , they make lovely coffee . The customers like meeting here every day near enough same time . You can have tasty snacks and cakes

This place is fantastic bakery type ,not to fancy but was able to get a seat without to much effort there were 3 in my party . We had a couple of cooked items they were nice but be warned one was the bacon and cheese pastry wrap lovely but flaky pastry was messy. Cakes were really nice and fresh and I would certainly recommend the custard slice to anybody.

Been going to this cafe over 20 years things never change good food and value for money. The coffee is great and undercuts the other Coffee chains in the area.

Popped in solo on a very busy Saturday morning and was promptly served by young friendly staff led by a very happy proprietor. An Earl Grey tea and bacon bap came to a very reasonable £3.45. The longstanding cafe is one of those iconic destinations in Aber where customers from all age groups socialise with many using it as a rendezvous to meet up with family and friends. No wifi availability was noted but nothing was too small or difficult to offer I.e. A toasted bacon bap - thank you Team Penguin Cafe - I will be back.

Nothing special here cake was OK coffee not to my taste was a small cup and quite expensive .Staff were alright young boy was friendly the others were not that interested plenty of other places.

The Penguin is welcoming and seems to attract a friendly crowd of customers. What it offers it does very well, my personal favourite is their custard slices, not easy to eat tidily but who cares. A custard slice and frothy coffee at the Penguin deserves to be an Aberystwyth tradition

The Penguin is a popular long standing watering hole in Aberystwyth. Excellent coffee, cakes and savouries. Those in the know choose the Custard Slices. Who needs Costa, Starbucks or Nero??

An institution for students studying at the Old College over many years, the Penguin continues to extend a welcome to students, tourists and locals alike. A impressive array of sandwiches, cakes and savouries plus excellent choice of hot and cold beverages are available. It does get busy at times, but you can usually find a table. It does not open on Sundays.

In an effort to help local businesses we gave a go this family run coffee shop as opposed to a chain coffee shop. We felt unwelcome as the staff mostly made up of school kids looked like they really didn't want to be there. We haven't noticed any single one of them smile at least once. The food and coffee were good however but we will be sticking to other coffee shops with a friendly service and smiling staff.

Friendly staff . Offers good snacks ,they do bacon , bacon and egg or sausage babes or all three . Local people like to meet here because nearly all customers know each other . If your a visitor you would soon get to know the others and made to feel welcomed . Nice coffee , nice atmosphere . The custard slices are quite famous .

The Penguin is without doubt the best place for a Custard Slice! Well worth a visit if you are visiting Aberystwyth! A great family run business and a legend in the area. Great for snacks and a cuppa. Shame they stopped making their own home-made Italian ice cream-that really was the best!

Very traditional place for a good cup of coffee. Been going there for many many years and I don't think it's changed at all! Cakes are great.

This cafe` and its staff really do have character. I've always been served by very pleasant staff and I enjoy a little banter and 'sports' talk with the brothers who own the business while they're making me a damn fine cup of coffee. There is a great selection of light luncheon food available and this all goes well toward providing a great dining environment. I've been frequenting this establishment for 20 years now and struggle to find its equal anywhere else in this town. They provide value for money both with the food and drink, and the pleasant interaction provided by staff. Maybe habits die hard, but why go looking for more when the Penguin Cafe` has it all to offer me as it is? The service is quick, the choice of fillings are very tasty and the and pastries are delightful. I may just have to hang around for another 20 years to see if anything changes. Congratulations Penguin Cafe` - you're a winner!

Lovely place used to come here all the time with my mum and sister years ago, Went again recently and it tastes exactly the same and childhood memories came flooding back nothing has changed not even the decor. Great little cafe with great quick service and food.
