Pattaya in Moray

This was my second visit to Pattaya, the first time was a bit better mainly the food let them down, this time the food was disappointing my barbecued chicken with a "special sauce" was just plain chicken with a sweet chilli sauce on the side quite disappointing but good luck finding another Thai restaurant in the area.

I am a restaurant reviewer and recently ate a meal here at the Pattaya in Elgin. I am safe in stating that it was the worst meal I have ever eaten in my life! I ordered a prawn starter, priced at £7.20, it arrived, I got 4 small prawns that were tasteless and bland. For Main course I ate a Thai chicken curry. It was again totally bland and extremely watery in consistency. It was basically Thai paste watered down in hot water, with added plain vegetables and small pieces of chicken, all the ingredients had obviously not been cooked as a recipe or together to take on flavours from each other, as one would cook a curry in a pot adding ingredients one at a time to allow for flavours to enrich. It was basically food in hot water, not creamy or rich. I ordered egg fried rice to accompany the curry, it had the minutest microscopic pieces of what I tasted as powdered egg, nor had the rice been fried whatsoever. As far as I could see it was plain rice with added egg powder stirred into it, and had never been near a wok at all! The noodles (as a side) never arrived and trying to attract the single waiters attention to inform him of this was a waste of time. I was forced to tell the waiter to remove the cost of the none existent noodles from the bill, otherwise I know I would have paid for them. The owners of this restaurant have lost any love they ever had for Thai cooking, this restaurant is an exercise in how to make a fast buck, and hang pleasing the customer, the objective is their bottom line it seems. I am sorry to say that as a food and restaurant reviewer I cannot recommend The Elgin Pattaya Restaurant at all. Cooking Thai food is an art to same degree, it should be cooked with love and with dedication, to enhance flavours, making sure they are heightened, and as much thought as possible has gone into its cuisine and finishing off as a meal fit to eat and enjoy. If you like plain hot water with added Thai paste stirred in, with plain vegetables thrown in, as an after thought, then Pattaya is your place to go. However, for me this is not cooking, the cook lost his love of Thai ingredients years ago. What he does like is his bottom line. DON'T EAT HERE! Not if you like genuine Thai food... this is NOT it! cost £22.00

Last time I was here the service was very slow but the food was good, so I thought I would give it a second chance. After sitting down, we were asked to move table 5 minutes later. It took 3 attempts to order food because the inexperienced teenager couldn’t operate the iPad. After an hour and a half our starters arrived, my friend had 3 tiny morsels of Dim Sums which were not worth the price. After 2 hours our food finally came. I asked for clarification about what dish had just been brought, and a man who we hadn’t seen all night appeared out of nowhere, angrily barked the name of the dish at me, and in the process of trying to reach over the table to hand me the food he knocked my friends meal on the floor. The man then stormed away without apologising. They completely forgot one of our Pad Thai and it took another 20 minutes to arrive. None of the food was worth the wait, and my friends prawns had a weird texture and taste as if they had been frozen. We did get a decent discount in the end, which made up for something. Unfortunately I won’t be coming back.

Our food had said it had been sent out over 20 minutes ago so called the restaurant to confirm - they advised the driver had taken ours and 6 other orders meaning the food has eventually arrived and is cold

Order was cancelled by restaurant but showing as delivered and no refund processed. Have attempted communication with the restaurant however have not had my calls answered. No option to request a refund through the just eat app and was assured by the restaurant the order was cancelled and the refund would go in automatically after 3-4 days. Has now been a week without a refund confirmation email or anything refunded to my account. Please can someone contact me about this?

Turned up at this restaurant at 13,50 only to be told very sternly by what I can only describe as a completley disgusting person."we are closed at 14.30" I looked at my watch and said that's OK 40 minutes is plenty of time The disgusting person looked very upset at this and stormed past me to the only occupied table in the building.I said to my daughter who had struggled up their stairs on crutches ...Let's go I cannot stand that guy's attitude he seems really pissed off that we are sitting down We left and will NEVER return to that disgusting atmosphere

Food was delivered an hour late. The salt and pepper chicken was a soggy mess and the prawn crackers were stale.

The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and authentically Thai. The service was equally impressive, with staff being friendly and attentive. My order was ready exactly on time, which made everything so convenient. Highly recommend!

My daughters birthday. We have been there many times and it is always great food. We were disappointed in the waiter service this time and on our last visit. The waiter was non engaging and the other waiter was serving food whilst still wearing his outdoor coat. The service is letting this great restaurant down. We have been there for years and I hope they can improve this.

It was ok, not as good as the last time and my sisters sticky rice came in a plastic bag and was like a brick, inedible. Average but not awful

Great food and delivery bang on time. Used just eat group order and everything came in the same bag even though there was 3 separate orders, absolute let down on that behalf of not getting that function right!

This place has a huge menu of Thai food and Chinese food. A lot of things to choose from and I honestly think that you can't choose wrong. Our group was all very happy with their choice and everything tasted very good. As for how spicy everything is, the 3 chilli grade suited the people who likes spice food great and the 2 chilli grade was also spicy but a good choice if you like spicy food but are unsure of how much spices there will be.

The waiter was busy but polite. Food was tasty fragrant and quickly delivered. Portions plentiful. Restaurant is a little tired but all in all very enjoyable. My only criticism would be no large bottles of water.

Quiet restaurant on a Wednesday, accessed by stairs. Thai decor but western music playing. Was intending to go ‘à la carte’ but decided to assess the lunch promotion of 2 courses for £9.50. Excellent value. Good food and ample portions. Tom Yum vegetable soup to start - spicy as desired with mushroom, carrot, cauliflower and tomato. Chose the hottest main course (most red chillis on the menu) - pork/vegetables/flat noodles. Spicy and noodles very filling. Prompt, courteous service but the server probably knew that midweek lunchtimes aren’t busy so he was dressed appropriately. Aged toilet but everything works after a fashion. I’ve been in Thailand three times. This restaurant hinted at Thai food but was lacking in oriental atmosphere. But two course for £9.50 ain’t bad.

Lovely tasty food with nice fresh vegetables, and very fast delivery.

Delivery was good, arrived on time. Not my favourite dish I’ve had from Pattaya, had something different this time, meant to be chicken but tasted like pork so not sure. Will go again as usually love the food there but won’t have this again

Being the only takeaway I ever order from really it’s pretty sad to see the quality of my favourite meals change so much, £7+ for a couple chicken nuggets and a box full of pepper is abysmal

Lunchtime visit. 2 courses for £9.50. Excellent value for money. We had tempura vegetables and chicken satay for starters. Beef with egg noodles and Chicken with baby corn in a light soy sauce with fried rice. One of our favourite lunchtime restaurants. This was a lunchtime menu but an extensive evening menu is available. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Located upstairs between 2 shops so easily missed.

Valentine's Day 2024 came and went in the blink of an eye. However, to extend the 'festival of love' out until the weekend we booked a table for 2 at this establishment. I can tell you right now that this is the best Thai restaurant in Elgin. I had one of the finest Thai Green Currys ever and my wife? Well, she also ate something and she assured me that it was also very good. Going on hot dates that offer value for money is hard these days, but this came in budget and I was very happy with the final bill. The staff were helpful and delivered the correct food that we had ordered. What more could I ask for.

Sorry, neither of us thought the food very special. The lemon chicken was a bit tough. Not sure if this is normal but my Thai soup had big tough inedible pieces of lemograss in it and I would have preferred a smaller portion as it was a huge amount of soup for one person.. The ladies toilet was rather shabby. The service was fine as was the price. The ice cream pudding looked to be bought in rather than made up but was quite nice.

We had food delivered to our home, ordered at 7pm arrived at 8.10pm!! Food was ok but got cold really quickly. 1hour 10mins for delivery is a long wait, would mark down for that.

Excellent as always. Best chicken noodles soup I’ve ever had. Arrived roasting hot and early. The fried rice and bbq beef noodles were perfect as was the crispy chilli chicken. Can’t wait to order again!

This wee place is upstairs hidden away but does the best food at an excellent price. The service was just the right level of attentiveness. Had the chicken satay to start and the red chicken curry for main with sticky rice. The chicken in both dishes was juicy and perfectly cooked.

Always use just eat but last nights service was very poor, ordered food at 18.34 ,tried to contact at 20.30 when food hadn't arrived, delivery finally came but just told very busy.....

First and last time ordering delivery from here. Order was placed at 6.30 and was given estimated time of 7;45 food contacted the eatery at 8 and was told food was ready but there was no driver. Order eventually arrived at 8:45 . Food was cold and required re heating which ruined dim sums and the prawn dish. The prawn batter was thick and gooey pretty inedible and prawns were overcooked. Shame as I think I ordered wrong items! The orange chicken was not edible, texture was slimy, sickly sweet, and chicken had odd taste. Sadly only ate two bites. Even if chicken was okay, the sweetness was beyond imaginable and I love sweet! Egg fried rice was not really egg fried rice, tiny odd pieces of egg, mainly just a huge tub of white rice. The ribs, however, were delicious! Sadly just think I got them on busy night.

Food was absolutely delicious!💃I got the Pad Thai, Gai (Chicken), Pattaya Thai Platter, and the Tom Yum Soup, Talay (Seafood). I was really craving for good soup during this chilly weather and it was amazing. There was a decent amount of seafood and vegetables, and the broth was perfect😋. The chicken skewer goes well with the peanut sauce (on the left), spring roll with the sweet chili sauce (middle) and prawn cracker with the sweet syrupy sauce on the left✨. The Pad Thai was super yummy and had a good amount of chicken and veggies as well. Everything was well packaged and food was still hot when it arrived, would definitely recommend!❤️

If you eat in restaurant is nice, food is served very fast and is hot and tasty. Big minus ! Because if you order food on just eat they charge you 5£ for delivery. After you order, restaurant call you and said that you need to pay another 5£! Shame!

Food: Easy 5/5. The curry was quite good and an excellent match for the coconut rice. All members of the group had nothing but positive things to say. One, who was quite well traveled, remarked that the Wonton soup was the best he'd ever had. Service: 4/5 - Polite and professional, but had minor mix ups and botched an order entirely (even after being specific and repeating it several times). For clarity, it was a simple order request and nothing excessive or overly specific. So- the service is good, but be very, very, VERY, clear if making any changes to food items ordered. Prices were fair. It's up to the group to split the bill as needed. They have Tiger beer, but expect to pay £4 per bottle. The dining area and restroom were clean and well kept. The restrooms are accessed directly from the dining area. Overall, I'd certainly eat here again and definitely recommend it.

Can't understand why this place isn't mobbed. The food is sublime. We had chilli ribs, chicken satay and prawn tom yum soup to start (the best tom yum I've had I think) Followed by a duck noodle dish, not sure what my husband and son had as I was too busy demolishing mine and washing it down with a nice house red wine. Fantastic meal once again

Went at lunchtime for my partners 60th birthday. Food was of a very high standard and was piping hot. Service was lovely and friendly. Promptly served but not made to feel rushed. Will definitely be going back. Was excellent and highly recommended.

Visited the restaurant many times when travelling to Elgin for work and have to say its my go to every time. Excellent quality of food and some of the nicest Thai and Chinese food I have had the pleasure of eating. Staff are excellent every time! A hidden gem in my opinion 👌

Salt and pepper Tofu - the bits at the bottom of the container were unbearably salty and the bits at the top were bland. Far too much veg far too little tofu for a £6.50 dish. Pad Keemow, Pak - Noodles - the majority of the sauce was on one side of the tub, meaning some of it was very nice and some of it was bland. The menu said the dish would have egg in it but there was no egg. The tub was 2/3 full, again for an £8.50 dish of noodles and veg, this is not good enough. Normally, Pattaya is very good but this was not good from them.

We did not book and they accommodated us immediately. It was tucked away between two shop fronts, upstairs. Smaller restaurant with approximately 10/12 tables. Extensive menu with authentic decoration through out the restaurant. Friendly helpful staff The food portions were on the generous side and were cooked perfectly. Reasonable cost. Highly recommended
