Original Thai in Huntingdonshire

Very underrated restaurant, have been many times and I love the food . It’s a shame it doesn’t get busier as they work really hard . Very basic restaurant but the food is def worth a visit .

Ate in a few times, and had take away numerous times. One of the best places for Thai food I've had the pleasure of experiencing.

Despite visiting this restaurant before Christmas and leaving without eating due to over an hour wait without receiving our starters, we decided to order a takeaway and give it another chance. The food is disappointing, salty watered down sauce for the massaman with lack of meat and vegetables. The weeping tiger dish was bland and small, the starters were ok but the sauces which come with the dishes are so small! Delivery was prompt but the food is basic.

We had an amazing meal here tonight. Tried this restaurant for the first time. Plan on visiting again. Service was great the meal was amazing.

Excellent, delicious food and lovely staff. I would say the quantity of meat in the dishes isn’t that high but there are lots of veggies in them and they’re really tasty!

We have recently moved to the area and looking for a great Thai restaurant and saw the reviews and decide to visit on Wednesday night , the restaurant was busy but not packed with tables available at 7.30. Firstly the drink menu is fairly limited , for wine there were 2 white and 2 red ( house white was very nice) , there were a selection of 5 beers unfortunately there was no Singha or Tiger beer so I had a IPA. Very big menu with all our favourites on and we ordered our food , unfortunately the starters did not turn up for an hour and there was another wait for the main course. The food was very nice , the green curry was very good and the the king prawns in the barbecue section were great. The issue I have is the wait for the food , far to long , we saw lots of takeaway going out the door whilst we waited for our starters and thought it may have been quicker to order a takeaway for the table near the front door. I appreciate that many restaurants have seen great changes over the last 2 years but we spent with drinks about 3 times the average takeaway and the owners should ensure the customer who come to their premises are not forgotten. Unlikely to visit again , would order a takeaway but we live outside catchment area.

I have been really looking forward to visiting this place and very glad I did . It was very comfortable , very pleasant staff and the food was very very tasty . I had a duck dish which was extremely tasty .Will defiantly make a return visit. The menu is huge ..looking forward to working my way through it .

Like I said in the title, Original Thai's food and service cannot be faulted, we would never consider ordering takeaway from anywhere else - why would you when you have such incredible food on your doorstep!

My wife loves Thai food so I generally tolerate it. I thought the menu here was more extensive and interesting than I have seen before. The staples such as chicken skewers and peanut sauce are here, but alongside a wide array of less usual dishes. My wife chose a red curry with king prawns and coconut rice, while I had a dish that sounded like a cow pat super rat, which does not sound good! However, Kao Pad Suparoat came with a range of marvellous flavours; a slice of fresh lime to squeeze over the chicken (think real, not nuggets), pineapple, cashew nuts and a background of fragrant spice. Portion sizes were far from skimpy. My wife did not manage to finish hers even though she cooed happily through her meal, and I only finished mine by dint of being a greedy pig. What really impressed me was the service. The waitress made sure to take down all my foibles, and the chef came out to see that everything had gone well. The people here care that you enjoy the experience and we certainly did.

Food was excellent and filling. Portions were large and could easily feed us, with enough for leftovers. Very good about allergies and delivered promptly. Recommend for great Food in Huntingdonshire district.

Went there for dinner. Super impressed by the owner’s hospitality. The taste is very authentic. We love it! Will definitely go back and try other dishes!

Decided to have a night in and order take away from Original Thai. Wasn’t disappointed! Great service, delivered on time and food was delicious as always. Throughly enjoyed the Yellow Curry, nice and creamy with lots of chunky pieces of chicken and vegetables…just how I like it! Thank you once again for fantastic food. A real treat!

Ordered seafood set menu,the amount of seafood was meagre and the fish was rubbery and overcooked. Most of it came in an insipid , watery brown fluid and the dishes tasted overpoweringly of raw garlic,ginger and chilli to excess. The worst Thai meal I've ever had, I just can't believe that people have left good reviews.Really disappointed as this was a special birthday night out.

Great food, great service, and great portions. We enjoyed it so much the first time, we went back. Our server was helpful and knowledgeable. We like a bit spicy so ask for the sauce tray, which enhanced their Pad Thai (flavorful by itself). They offer a generous amount of meat too. We will be back!

I usually have to stay in Huntingdon on business on Thursdays. I found this restaurant and have recommended it honestly. The food is superb, the service is great, and the place is one not to miss.

I always order from Original Thai, and have done for the past 5/6 years. The service is always impeccable and food is amazing. I definitely recommend the Bangkok Chicken! Restaurant is lovely and cosy and the staff cant do enough to help you. I'll never buy Thai food from anywhere else :)

The food is wonderful (it’s the real deal) and the service is superb. Good sized portions (red chicken curry comes with plenty of meat). Lovely restaurant and a real asset to the town.

Four of us dined. Very friendly service and nothing was too much trouble - requests for smaller portions, less heat etc. I had the king prawns for starter and they were delicious - my partner had chicken satay and it was very generous. The cod in sweet and sour was good but too much sauce and I was not expecting the cod to be in a very tiny batter - but it was tasty. The coconut rice was yummy. My guests had the mixed starter and noodles and they both said they were fully of flavour. Very reasonable priced and the customer service throughout was first class.

Have used Original Thai for a number of years. The food is fresh, flavoursome and not deep fried. Even with a takeaway it always arrives as if it’s just been cooked. The service is also great with accurate wait times given. Keep it up we love your food :)

It's been a while since I visited Original Thai and I'd previously given them 5 stars so I was hoping they wouldn't let me down.

A great selection of Thai and Asian based dishes. All food is prepared and cooked to order so you may have to wait for your meal.

We stopped by on a for an early dinner just before 6:00pm. We were seated immediately. Our server came over promptly to take drink orders and then allowed us to look over the menu.

Excellent meal, varied menu, good service and prices. Well worth a try if you are in Huntingdon. Our family group enjoyed the food and experience.

Have visited this restaurant a number of times since moving up here, first visited for the great value lunch menu which consists of a starter and main for under £8 the portions of which are just the right size.

My partner and I ventures here for dinner tonight. It’s Monday so it wasn’t very crowded. It was very clean and the hostess was very accommodating. We both had nice starters and the main meal was very good. I would definitely go back again.

Authentic Thai food. Lived in Thailand for 5 years, had my own restaurant, and the food was just like my chefs would make. Asked for the pad kaprow Thai style, minced not sliced meat and it was awesome. Chicken Massaman, yellow fish curry, jungle curry, pad Thai all good too. Tuesday night so not very busy. Service a touch slow and dishes didn't arrive at the same time, very Thai style which is really not a bad thing as you tend to share most dishes anyway, but it didn't matter as the food was hot, fresh and delicious. Compliments to the chef!

A party of 4 adults arrived on time for 7pm reservation.

We looked at the first photos and almost dismissed the place as it showed a warehouse type place. Then scrolling through, it's moved to the high street what a relief. So we ordered our food, and the waitress was extremely knowledgeable on the menus. And then came the food. Excellent is the only description I can give. One tip, most Thai give smaller size portions, this place doesn't. Fantastic value for money. Will be returning regularly.

Weekend away and they managed to fit us in on a busy night. Hard working polite staff and the food was excellent, fresh and full of flavour. Thought the shared starter was overpriced as were the drinks. Enjoyed the meal, so it's hard to be to critical.

Hoy mi marido y yo fuimos a probar este lugar ya tenían un tiempo para el almuerzo. El lugar es limpio y agradable. La camarera era encantador, nos saludaron calurosamente en tailandés, nos sentamos en nuestra mesa. Pedimos un entrante y un principal cada cada uno como en la oferta. Mientras estábamos esperando teníamos nuestras bebidas, escuchando música en el fondo y había un par de otros comensales. Debo admitir que el primer plato no estaban demasiado mal, tuve que era seco de pollo satay, pero la salsa era agradable. Mi marido tenía las croquetas (con salsa de chili (Art.81). Los platos principales eran horribles, absolutamente ningún sabor qué tan siempre era como la carne había sido hervido en agua y luego se sirve con cualquier comida que pedimos. Tuve stir fry con fideos de cerdo no era simplemente un salteado, washy wishey en mi plato y pila no era mejor marido, él tenía pollo con arroz jazmín, de nuevo sin sabor. Esta es la primera vez donde tomé dos sorbos y la izquierda- me sorprendió lo soso, aburrido y apetecible que era. Mi marido estaba siendo educado y comimos un poco más hasta que me sugirieron que llevar a casa y añadir sabor a nosotros mismos. Llamamos a la camarera y le pedí que 'fuerte' hasta para llevar y ella pidió "no te gusta"? Yo estaba a punto de decir no hasta mi "educado" marido engañado y dijo "estoy llena" sospecho que ella no me sorprende. Realmente no sé cómo este lugar sobrevive. Me pareció que tal vez fuimos un día equivocado, pero he oído de otros cómo la comida es horrible. He estado en Tailandia y a otros tailandés y este restayrants, en mi opinión, es un insulto a su comida.

Went late for dinner and was truly surprised at the quality of food coming from the kitchen. All local ingredients and fresh made. You can up the spice if you like. Great place for lunch on a Saturday shopping trip. Right on the square and easy to get to.

Have walked past this little place on many occasions during the day and wondered if it would be good in the evening. With the husband out for the evening, decided I would treat my teenage son, who's currently in the midst of revising for his exams, to an impromptu Thai. Glad we tried it. Walked in, to what looked like an empty restaurant, but we were early. Within a few minutes there were two more groups in and some seated in the rear of the restaurant. We were promptly served by a very polite and efficient server. I always order Thai fishcakes. I used to work with a Thai chef and know what a good fish cake should be like. These didn't disappoint. Piping hot and fresh and plenty of them. Nice basket of crackers. I was able to order 'off menu', choosing a seafood jungle, which was good and strong, and not too watery as I have experienced elsewhere. My son made and ordering error, but had he chosen better would have really enjoyed it. He doubled up on his coconut dishes and found it too rich in the end! Lesson learned. Nice ambiance, reasonable prices, good range of food and pleasant surroundings. Next time I will treat the Husband!

My family have been coming to this restaurant since it opened.We come for the two course lunch set menu which is very good value for money. The Thai red beef curry is amongst our favourites.The owner/manager "Wan" is very friendly and is more than happy to meet our requests. The delivery service is also very good and very reasonably priced.

Had the most amazing meal from here several years ago, couldn't fault a single thing.....anyone who knows me will tell you what I'm like about my food (9 out of 10 times I can cook it better at home!). Had food from them a couple of more times over the years and decided we would treat ourselves last night.........what's happened? Delivery driver got lost even with our address and postcode so by the time it arrived it was cold, the flavour was below average at best, noodle dish fell out of the container like a solid soggy brick, and don't get me started on the potion sizes......complete waste of £37.50(including small delivery charge) yes that's nearly 40 quid, for 2 of us......we're more quality not quantity people, we were left hungry!

I've been to this restaurant several times and had take-away from there. Every time the food has been amazing, ive tried several dishes.The staff always courteous and they always remember who I am.Very good value. While sometimes it seems quiet it's always worth going to try. A hidden gem.

Having previously written rave reviews about this restaurant it is with some regret to write a less than satisfactory report. My family, who love Thai food, were visiting from Yorkshire and having 'bumped up' this restaurant to them were really looking forward to their experience. The table was ready on arrival and the staff were most efficient and courteous as usual. Drinks, starters and main courses were ordered and arrived in good time. The drinks are very expensive for small beers but that was expected. The starters were very good and of very ample proportions. The mains however were very disappointing. Two people were quite happy with their meal but three of us having ordered the green and red chicken curries between us were most disappointed. The red curry was acceptable but not great. The two green curries consisted of a few pieces of very chewy chicken in a bowl of lots of tasteless creamy milk and very little else. All the rice was soggy and sticky. The bill for 4 adults and one child was £98.40. In conclusion - must do better. We will try again but may be in the not so near future. SAD to have to report this.

We visited this restaurant at lunch time midweek. It was not busy so we were seated quickly and greatly in a typical Thai friendly manner.We opted for a two course lunch special. the food was ok and served promptly. My only complaint is that the plates were cold so the warmth from the food quicklty disapated into the plate, so that after a short while the food cooled rapidly.

Once again the picture on this site has not been updated and shows the old take-away on the Huntingdon industrial estate. I can assure you the actual restaurant is very comfortable, warm and very friendly. It is not overly ornate but has a good ambience and the service is very good. We visited on this occasion late on a lunchtime when the restaurant was very quiet. We have visited several times now at various times and absolutely love the food. I have read other reports and can fully understand that at peak times the limited staff may struggle to cope with a hugh amount of demand. The meals appear to be individually cooked to order, so if you do go at peak times you should allow a little extra time. It is worth the wait. The value for money, for food, especially for the lunch menu is second-to-none however the price of drinks is typical of restaurant bottled beer prices and may be a bit of a shock wnen the bill arrives. This should not detract from an excellent dining experience.

We were staying just outside Huntingdon and drove into the town to look for somewhere to eat and found Original Thai. We had the seafood set meal for two - very good value at £30 - and the food was very good but the setting is a bit too much like a cafeteria rather than a classy restaurant.

Ten of us went to celebrate my sisters birthday. We all had lovely meals. All of the food was great. We ate from the £6.95 two course lunch menu. Fantastic value. Great service. Very friendly staff. Made to feel very welcome. Can't wait to return.

I used to be a regular at Original Thai in the days when it was just a take-away on a Huntingdon industrial estate. They have now progressed to a full service restaurant in the middle of town, but still provide a take-away offering. The food is excellent – the curries are divine - just the right amount of spice and never over powering. There is often a wait at peak times even for take away, but they are usually honest about the delay at the time you order. They must have limited resources in the kitchen out back. When I’ve been to collect recently, I’ve started to notice that the restaurant is becoming more popular. The setting is quite basic, but the quality of the food will make this place successful. I fear they may be challenged with the speed of service in the restaurant – but the owner/manager is such a nice guy that I am sure people are more tolerant than they otherwise would be. You will not be disappointed with the quality of the food if you eat here.

Every time I visit Original Thai, my experience has always been pleasant. The staff are kind and very welcoming. There is also a genuine aspect of this place which is probably why I keep coming back. Overall, great food and atmosphere.

After a recommendation we opted for a take away from here last night. Menu looked good an not overly priced. Alarm bells rang from the out set. When we placed the order we had a choice of 2 hrs wait for delivery or an hour and a half for collection. We went for the collection and proceeded to order on the phone. It took almost half an hour to get through that process despite us having all the dish numbers listed in advance. Still, we had faith in them based on the recommendation. We turned up on time and were informed our order wasn't ready. to our amazement we were also told they hadn't even started it and they would not cook it either. What? Really? Why lead us down the garden path then simply not bother, why not phone and tell us not to bother turning out for the collection. You don't deserve our business. BUYER BEWARE THESE PEOPLE ARE AMATEURS !! Ended up at the Chinese instead much better service !!

We were greeted by lovely young lady, then the owner recognised me. I had been looking in the window late afternoon, while trying to decide if we should eat out or in. I liked the look of the restaurant and the menu. Convinced my husband to give the Pub Grub a miss and try something different. (It was a wet Wednesday evening. Which meant a trip into town). We were seated immediately, near a source of warmth, just what was needed, when you are damp and cold.Original Thai is licensed, but we opted for a soft drink, this came promptly. Before we ordered the owner/chef, a very nice Thai lady, asked had we eaten Thai before, we informed her we have, she also asked if there was anything on the menu we would like explained.. I order Tom Yum Gai for my starter, Other Half ordered Chicken Satay. Neither dish was a disappointment. My soup had the right amount of fire and the deliciousness of the herbs. Nothing was left in the bowl, a fact commented on by our chef. Pad Thai with Squid was my main dish, OH had one of the delicious rice dishes on the menu. By this stage I wasn't too interested in what he was eating. A tasty meal, cooked to perfection, friendly, attentive staff and from what I observed during our meal, there are regular customers. For two courses each, warmth, friendliness and good hearty meal, this place is value for money.Original Thai has been at it's current location on the High Street, since January this year, before that it was take away on an industrial estate. Our waitress was very informative.If you want something different when eating out and you feel like a taste of the East, I would recommend this restaurant.

Passed by this restaurant whilst in Huntingdon on business. Went for their lunch deal, enjoyed chicken satay and chicken stir fry with egg fried rice, all for under £7! We hadn't eaten Thai before and had heard raving reviews about this family run restaurant. The staff were very polite and made us feel welcome on arrival. We ordered and the food came out very quickly- hot and very well presented. They weren't particularly busy but there were a few tables at around the same stage as us. Although personally I didn't enjoy my meal - I would say that's a preferred choice. But maybe if we were explained some of the dishes I would have chosen something else and may have had a different opinion of Thai food. If there was any constructive feedback I would say that the restaurant didn't use their booze license to its full capacity; good customer service waitresses would keep an eye on the tables to see if the drinks were low and would prompt customers more; drinks offered straight after sitting down to look at the menu; asking how the meal is not long after you start eating it; is there anything that you would like?; making short conversations with customers like have you been before?, would you like any of the menu explained?, etc... would definitely benefit this restaurant. We had to flag our waitress down a few times during our evening - to order drinks, order from the menu, order more drinks, get the bill - but it was all done very politely and pleasantly by the staff. She missed out on a few more drinks orders which could have topped up our bill but we chose to go elsewhere for a drink around town. It was an inexpensive bill.The restaurant was very clean, well presented and the food looked and tasted good. My only negative would be lacking customer service - they need to be more aware of this to ensure returning paying customers.

I was in the area on a training course, and my partner came to join me. Didn't feel that fussed looking at the menu, but the food was a good amount per person; we shared a pineapple fried rice with beef, a peanut curry with chicken, and a Bangkok chicken. The food was really tasty and did not take very long to arrive. Food was a good price / not expensive although a can of coke was a £1.20. Overall we really enjoyed the food and will go again if back this way.

I Went here for lunch with a few friends and we all enjoyed our meal, the staff were friendly and helpful. I've lived in Thailand and the food was very authentic and freshly cooked And very reasonably priced. I will be visiting again.

I ate here on my way past Huntingdon and would recommend it. The food was tasty and the portions generous. My tom yum hed soup was delicious with really nice mushrooms in, and the pad Thai was also very good. To think I could have had a sandwich from the garage!

Stopped here for lunch with my wife.Lunch specials on menu offer very good value for money.Patient and helpful staff ensured that my wife's shellfish allergy was accounted for in the preparation of her meal. Thoroughly recommended. Would come here again. The food was delicious.

We all really love Thai food and decided to have a night at the restaurant having heard good reports. The photo posed on this page is not that of the restaurant on the high st. in Huntingdon. The restaurant is not over stated but is very clean, welcoming and well worth a visit. The food was particularly excellent and served to the table by very helpful staff. We will have no hessitation in making another visit and can highly recommend this 'eatery'.

Popped in for lunch, but didn't have the lunch menu (which looked good value for money IMHO) - but had from the main menu:Y2 -Yum Woon Sen -a fantastically spicy minced pork and vermicelli noodle salad.33 Gang Pa with pork - asked for Thai Spicy - and got it!Devine food, we'll be back for more.Looks like they have their licence now as Chang was on the menu.Service was efficient and very friendly.

Adding some chilli oil to food does not make it Thai. We tried this Thai restaurant as our usual in Godmanchester was closed, however on entry there was no smell of cooked Thai food or spices one associates with the Far East. I've spent a lot of time in Thailand since the mid 80s and have eaten in Thai 5* hotels and canteens so l know what Thai food should be like. Anyone who got what we did will be totally confused as there was nothing Thai about it. The paneang curry was a watery soup totally lacking in any Thai herbs and spices, the other dishes were equally as bland. We will not be going back as we can make better Thai food.

It's with regret that I find myself writing this review,when I have written before about how pleased we were with this Restaurant.However today we called in for a lunch.We had enjoyed the set menu before,so today ordered the same.I was very hungry,and after rubbery Thai Fish Cakes out main starter came. Mine was Stir Fried Chicken Noodles.The other meal was Beef Stir Fried Noodles. My meal was no way the same as I had last time.Chicken didn't look as if it has been near a Wok/Pan. Colourless and tasteless.I did eat most of it as we were working to a deadline. I explained to the waitress about it.She went to tell the Co Owner.When she came back she said that it was the same as before.Well it certainly wasn't.In other words it was my fault!!! We have been customers since day one.The owner could have come out to see us about it as there was only two other tables.Needless to say we won't be going back.

I started to enjoy the Original Thai food since it was only take away. I started to go there for lunch as well since it become a restaurant. The food is freshly made, and the flavor of the fresh ingredients combination is absolutely always amazing. The owners are kind and attentive and it's evident that they put a lot of passion and effort on what they are doing.

Best ever Thai Food. Red Duck curry is my favourite. Food is cooked fresh and chef put all her heart into it. Brilliant family run business, I hope you do very well for yourselves. Love love love

I really enjoyed my visit to this restaurant. It was quiet, being a midweek evening, but the restaurant still had a pleasant atmosphere. The food was fantastic. Definitely on my list of Thai restaurants to visit again. At the time of my visit, they didn't yet have a licence to serve alcohol, although the application was apparently in progress. They were more than happy for you to bring your own alcohol though.

Visited here for the first time with family recently. Plenty of variety on the menu. Ordered multiple dishes to share and we were impressed with the quality of the food. Very tasty and exceptional value. They haven't got an alcohol licence yet so only soft drinks for sale. However customers can take along their own wine/beer for no extra charge which is great. Would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return.

Amazing food! Just beautiful, order from here regularly and never a bad meal! The only comment I would have is do not order on a Saturday unless it's as soon as they open. Ordered this evening and was told a 1hr 20min wait for delivery, 2 hours later our meal arrived however when we called to chase and were told the order was being packed we were called back 5 minutes later to be told there was part of our order that had ran out? Also the portions this evening were half the size as when we order in the week for the tempura orders. Won't be visiting again at the weekend however cannot stress how amazing the food is!
