May Garden in Aberdeenshire

First visit, moved recently into Johnshaven and was told about May Garden but had been closed during summer. Glad I waited, had a lovely meal, had spring rolls x 3 medium size per portion, chicken kung po and chicken with mushrooms and fried rice, all very nice. Would recommend. 😃

We had beef curry & sweet & sour chicken. Beef was ok, curry sauce very mild, light & a little too runny. Sweet & sour was definitely mostly sour & unable to finish. Chicken was cooked ok. Staff are extremely lovely. We really wanted to like it but wouldn’t go back.

Prices have steadily gone through the roof and quality not improved with price increases. They also close for weeks on end so it’s a hit or miss to find them open, in last two years you could get meals for three for around twenty pounds then it increased to around twenty two and now it’s twenty seven pounds, same meals from Stonehaven would be around ten pounds cheaper.

High price for small portions and poor quality food. Couldn’t eat the sauce as too vinegary, carrots still hard. Disappointing as we like to give local shops our clientele, but we won’t be rushing back here!

Fantastic service, food is delicious. I tend to find the Food from Chinese takeaways to be fatty and salty. Not this restaurant, perfectly seasoned food. We love it

Very nice food - well priced - best for miles - wholesome family cooked food - very nice people. They will adapt the menu to what you require. Your missing a treat

So disappointed with our Chinese, nothing we ordered was up to scratch and that’s saying a lot as we are a family of 6. The chips were over cooked, the noodles were all stuck together and the ribs were like rubber plus the curry sauce was like brown tap water. Wouldn’t even feed the left overs to my dog.

We visited this takeaway a few years ago and we were unimpressed, in fact we did not visit it again until end 2015 / 2016. Since then however, we have not had a bad meal and generally the quality is very good. We now visit regularly. Generous portions so if you like a starter, sharing a main is more than enough. Be prepared to wait at weekends but if you phone in your order that saves some time.

Been going to May Garden for several years now as Iam a Bervie local. Usually have the sweet and sour chicken in batter or chicken fried rice as these are my favourites. Portions are usually huge, enough for two although quality can vary. I have had the occasional fried rice which has been greasy and lumpy. Service is however usually very good. Brenda is very friendly and always smiling. Takeaway can get very busy at the weekend so be prepared for a wait. In conclusion, good enough but not great.

a busy takeaway on the main street - the food is always freshly prepared and delicious. Go canny with the rice as the portions are very generous - the chicken with ginger and spring onion is a particular favourite of mine, but the red thai curyy also well delish !!

Don't ever visit this place when they are busy. They took a phone order from us and we were still waiting more than 40 mins after promised time. No communication, nothing, even when we were there waiting, shambles. We walked out and won't be back!

One of the best Chinese takeaways I have ever found, the food is always good and we have been regular visitors for the last ten years and will keep coming back for more.
