Half size takeaway dishes for the main apart from the chow main chicken kung pao just tasted of vinegar and satay chicken same again tasteless also put the cold can of coke in the Carrier bag with the hot food so coke was warm

Unfortunately I found my food to be bland and pretty unappetising. Delivery was also nearly an hour late, despite preordering in plenty of time. I even resorted to adding some tikka sauce from my wife’s Indian that was ordered from another takeaway! Will not be recommending or using this place again.

Saturday night is often take-away night and we decided to go to Ma's Cottage. We often use but hadn't for a while so decided to order online. We always have Dim-sum as it's the only Chinese take-away that does them in Melton but sadly they didn't have, if you've not had before I recommend as they can be addictive and taste amazing. Salt and pepper chicken balls and chips are always a must have along with Beef Chow-mein. I also recommend the Chinese gravy, I never had before and it's amazing. We had a honey beef dish and spare ribs also and special fried rice. I scored down as the BBQ ribs were tough and not there usually fall of the bone. Compared to other Chinese take-away in Melton I would say it's top 3

After using ma,s for some years i feel its time for a change,the 1st cock up a couple of weeks ago the sweet & sour came but no chicken balls this time the balls turned up and no sauce.after a phone call the sauce turned up 10mins later but not as i know it,it was a gloop.so its the last pennies they have off me.

Me and my partner ordered for delivery yesyerday around 20 past 8 , an hour and 20 mins later it hadn’t turned up, my partner thought he may have pressed collection by mistake so went down there to be told it is with the driver so we waited….. it never turned up. This takeaway used to be amazing, will be ordering elsewhere next time.

Over 2hours waiting for a delivery, will never use again

Very slow delivery and sadly food was cold and very stodgy! Also didn't include prawn crackers which I should have received! Used to order regularly from here but has gone downhill. We also ordered last month and it wasn't great but was hoping it was a one off but not for us anymore.

I tried Ma's Cottage for the first time yesterday. The satay chicken sauce was lovely and very nice chow mein. 😁 The only reason I have given 4 out of 5 is because there was a bit too much oil in the satay, it was very oily! Owners, please can you rectify this? Thank you.

Diabolical ordered beef in satay sauce. Just looked like dishwater and tasted awful.

Brilliant find been living down here 9yrs and it's taken us that long too find a decent Chinese food is tasty piping hot and service with a smile 😃 couldn't ask for more then that so thank you xx

Phoned an order through for two meals to be delivered to the caravan site at Eye Kettleby lakes where we were staying. Staff taking the order and the delivery driver were great to deal with and the food was even better. Portion sizes were larger than our usual local. Would highly recommend.

To keep it brief- don’t bother. Called when food due to state I owed extra for delivery (despite ordering through food hub and adding a tip!). Finally arrived 30mins late with a rude and sullen driver. Food ok but nothing special and missing the ‘free’ ribs promised. Manager and driver both rude spoiling what should have been a celebration meal. When you spend £60 you expect to enjoy a meal and not spend the evening bemoaning the rudeness of the business owner and service provided. Very poor

Got a call when due to state I owed extra for delivery- despite ordering via Foodhub. Stated I wouldn’t pay more as wouldn’t have ordered if known. Arrived 30mins late with a sullen driver saying he was only getting half his fee. Food was adequate but late and the disagreement over the belated phone conversation left a bitter taste in the mouth. When you spend £60 on food you want to enjoy it and not have to deal with rude delivery drivers and owners. Don’t bother with home delivery unless you want hassle. Didn’t even get the ‘free’ ribs that should have been delivered with the order. Very disappointing and very poor customer service. Only plus was the first lady who called and had been tasked to ‘tackle the issue’ who clearly understood the situation better than the manager.

Sorry to say but I had an awful service from this takeaway, we placed an order for steak and chips, sweet and sour chicken ball and a 3 in 1 box however we did not receive the steak awful customer service refused to admit it’s their fault even though we had them read the order back numerous times and paid over the phone! Apparently my fault? Not sure how when it’s not my job to take orders will not be using again as rather rude on the phone too

Cold food, the duck tasted like it had been cooked for a week, the dog had that. It took 1hr 45 to deliver then delivery driver shouted at the door that we owed them £1.40 for delivery at 10pm at night. Order and delivery fee £5.30 paid online. £6.70 for delivering 4.2 miles. Won’t be returning here

If I could have rated this place 0 I would have. Up until recently Ma,s Cottage has been our favourite take away. Not now, the last twice we have had food from there something has been incorrect. Last time , no bbq sauce Prawns tasted awful. This time , they gave us the wrong rice , when I phoned up she kept disagreeing with me ,etc I know I ordered special fried rice , she even went through my order with me! The chicken balls were cold and under cooked , the pork was 80% gristle . Never again will we order a takeaway from here . Appalling.

Pretty dire…….chicken balls were ¾ stodgy batter, chop suey tasted of cornflour & chow mein was rather tasteless. Very disappointed, it was inedible ☹️

But ma’s kitchen did and must say the food was delicious and very tasty. There are a lot of take aways in Melton this is my personal favourite Quick friendly service and good food.

Order was a little late so I called the restaurant to ask how long it would be they were ebonite helpful and friendly and explained that my food was almost done ... its a Saturday I understand they're busy ! 20 mins later the food arrived beautifully fresh and hot ! The salt and pepper squid is the best I've ever had ! Simply delicious 😋

Ordered Online, Paid, Order Accepted. After half an hour get a call saying they are too busy to deliver !! I now have to wait for 3 to 5 days for a refund. This level of customer service is not acceptable, needless to say we shall spend our money elsewhere in future.

Food isn’t great and service is awful. The latter has put us off using them again. Everything food wise was bland and watery.

I ordered from Bigfoodie using the 2nd link on the following search. It turns out that this is for the Melton Mowbray branch. Upon attempted collection on foot from the Birstall branch we gradually worked out that there was a Melton branch (it took a while - the menus are identical). Even though the Melton branch merrily said that a lot of people ordered from Birstall they would not arrange for the food to be recooked there and did not apologise or indicate that they would make any attempt to rectify a clear problem. A friend had to do the 25 min each way drive to collect the food. It really added stress to the evening at a time where I needed the break of not having to cook. Future business lost.

Disappointing takeaway. Elements of mixed platter were very dry and overcooked while others (spring roll particularly) were very greasy. Not recommended.

Terrible service and rude staff. Over two hours and two chase up calls to them. The food is mediocre so not even worth the wait. Plenty of other Chinese takeaways in Melton, use any of the others if you want to eat the same day as you order.

Placed an order and was meant to be delivered in 1hour. After 1 1/2 hours I called to be told I was in a queue and it will be next. 1hr later I call again to be told it's cooking now. Really 21/2 hours and still no food.

I ordered different dishes for 6 people tonight to celebrate my husbands 60th birthday. The food was amazing, everything was cooked to perfection, my guests and my family were very impressed. I have had food from here before but tonight was exceptional.

Ordered at opening time (1700) didn’t turn up until 2000, women on the phone was rude to the point that she told us to just get over it. £50 purchase and paid the overly priced delivery charge. The food was cold and was clearly the bare minimum was put in the boxes. Will never order from them again.

With friendly staff, both for delivery and in store, Ma’s cottage has been my go to takeaway for many years and I’ve never had a bad meal! Brilliantly priced for the quality of service and food! THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO!

Was told the order of egg fried rice and sweet and sour chicken balls would be 45 mins, after 1 hour and 30 mins and 3 phone calls, it finally arrived, no discount of the bill for the joke of a service kept getting tols it was on the way when it wasnt, they did t really seem to care, the food was even cold when it arrived

Ordered at 5.50pm on line and received my order at 8.05pm when I should of received it by 7.00pm not happy food was cold and disgusting will not be ordering again.

We ordered online at the weekend and expected it to take ages. Food arrived within 40 minutes, red hot and tasted delicious. A lot cheaper than other deliveries as well. Cant fault it. Will definitely return.

La comida estaba listo a tiempo, lo que es relativamente barato. Sin embargo, estoy muy decepcionado de que han perdido parte de la orden (muy aggravatingly lo poco que pedimos para nuestro hijo de cuatro años) así que hemos tenido problemas para hacer algo para él. Nos gustaría incluso pagado por ella. Muy pobre y profundamente decepcionado ya que era nuestra primera vez con ellos. No creo que te molesten en regresar.

Been loads of times they offer good food and the service is swift. My favourite is the chilli and salt chicken wings well worth a try. In my opinion one of the better Chinese takeaways in Melton.
