Mario's Other Plaice in Walsall

Went tonight (29/3/25) first time visitors, although drove past the place for years for work etc..I don't usually go into much detail for a for review it's either good or bad. But this place.. 10 out 10 service 10 out 10 food 10 out 10 staff. I can definitely say best chippy we've had in years. Portions were way more than we needed. Qaulity of food is top notch preparation is fantastic staff know their job well. And the fish and chips are next level, curry and peas bang on, doner meat bang on(just a bit thick cut for me, but I'll remember to ask for thin next time) salad fresh no issues and asked bonus of red and white cabbage is always a win. But the fish and chips..... I have now finally found a place I can just say.. legs go to the chippy and not have head ache of searching for somewhere decent for an hour. Great food and great people. Definitely recommend going to try their stunning battered chips and fantastic little suprises you could get with your food. Lovely family run atmosphere from ordering to collection.

Oh my goodness, this place is absolutely amazing. After reading all the reviews we decided to give this chippy a go. My husband came tonight and ordered a small mixed meat, a large fish and a medium chips.. all of it was absolutely amazing 👏🏻!! Chips and fish cooked in beef dripping which the flavour was 10/10, the tikka and donnor meat was so juicy and fresh. We also found a M shaped potato and a star shaped potato in our chips! The servers also wrapped all our food in foil so it was still hot when he arrived home. We will definitely be regulars from now on!!

Wow. Where do I even start. So the food is absolutely out of this world! Definitely worth travelling from Wolverhampton most weekends for it! The portions are more than generous! Food it still hot when we get back home! Cannot fault the food, service and staff! We will be continuing to come over every weekend going forward. None of the chippy's compare to mario's 😍😍

Staff are very friendly and attentive food is very good and fast and hot you can choose battered or normal chips Mario's is our new favourite chippy as food tastes great and also reasonably priced would highly recommend 👌 😋

This chip shop serves decent sized portions of fish, chips, chicken & doner meat and naan. The food tastes fresh and is pleasant to eat. The team are friendly. I recommend giving it a try if you and in and around the area.

We moved to Norton Canes and was looking for a solid local chippy. This is by far the best chip shop we've ever had and my partner is a picky sod! They're all so welcoming and professional and the food is fantastic, we don't use anybody else anymore!

Don't even bother entertaining anywhere else. Quality food Quality portions Quality service. Recommended by friends and I had to make a 10 mile round trip which i will make again without hesitation.

Was passing and thought reviews look good let’s try. Disgusting food and tired looking shop. It’s like going back to the 80s. Burnt chips that have been sat too long. Old meat on, rudest server I’ve ever come across. It’s a ghost town there don’t bother. Reviews are definitely from the locals, if your not local they have a problem. Strange people

I’m a chippy connoisseur this place beats every other chippy I’ve been to hands down! I travel miles to get here as it’s by far the best! Amazing food superb service and reasonable price!! This places quality blows every other chippy out the water

Amazing food and worth the 30 min drive.

Came in after playing badminton on a Saturday evening. Had a fish and chips, ate inside, and one of the guys in the back gave us some onion rings too on the house. Fresh food and nice vibes and can tell it's popular with the locals. Can definitely recommend!

Outstanding, and well worth travelling to. Best fish and chips in at least a ten-mile radius. Very generous portions. Fresh fish, the best variety of potatoes. Check out their instagram if you want to know exactly what I mean - they're always sharing info about their ingredients. A true local legend and a family business. Spend all of your money here - you won't be disappointed.

After hearing very good reviews about this place we tried this fish and chip shop out and purchased a range of what they have on sale. Everything was outstanding, this has to be one of, if not the very best Fish and Chip shops in and around Walsall. Our favorite chips were the battered ones cooked in beef dripping. The service was swift and staff friendly whilst being very busy constantly dealing with orders. A gem of a place that we will be treating ourselves to again, love it!

The best fish and chips in the area

Have been wanting to pit stop here on a visit back to my parents for some time, sadly never aligned before last week. Whilst their only plaice shop has a Gluten Free Tuesday's their knowledge about coeliacs and what they can offer is brilliant. Grabbed their chicken kebab and regular chips and it was excellent - made fresh each day it's a kebab you can trust. A medium kebab and chips can comfortably feed two - we'd ordered one each and it meant we had left overs the next day. I was also lucky to have a gluten free battered sausage made up fresh for me - haven't had one in so long and it was delicious - my gluten eating other half tried it and thought it was brilliant. If you're a coeliac then Mario's chippies in Brownhills and the Walnut Tree in Milton Keynes are my favourites to date!

Fresh food cooked to order, best chippy around, I travel past multiple chippys just for Mario’s the food tastes unreal with generous portions, the staff are polite and friendly and it’s an absolute bargain other shops can’t compete with the price and quality of the food !

Of late I've found other chip shop food disappointing and expensive. I read the reviews of local chip shops, and Mario's consistently scored highly. I went there tonight and wasn't disappointed. I was asked if I wanted my food cooked in oil or beef fat - I didn't know anywhere that still did that! And it was cooked to order. I want disappointed, the fish and chips were the best I've had in ages and came with lemon and tatrter sauce. They obviously take great pride in the food that they prepare and it really shows. This is somewhere I'll be coming back to.

I'd heard so many rumours about how good Mario's Other Plaice is, and I'd been meaning to give it a try for quite some time. This evening that time finally arrived, and I can safely say I was not disappointed! The staff are very polite and friendly, the prices were fantastic, and the food was absolutelyamazing. My daughter said the chips were the best she'd ever had, and that takes some beating coming from a six year old! It's no wonder people come from miles around to this fine establishment. Highly recommend and I cannot wait to return!

Best chippy in the area by far, all the food is high quality, freshly made on the day, the chicken and donor kebabs in particular are the best I've had in years. Battered chips or normal, both are cooked to perfection. The selection of food is brilliant and incredibly well priced.

First visit. Blown away. Small fish special, really good quality all round and great price. Friendly staff who seem to care, rather than just throw it all in a bag, care taken to box up properly and offer foil to keep it hot for the journey. And best of all... the offer of lemon and tartare, which no where bothers with but makes a Really nice touch. Great effort guys, I'll be back again

We travel from cannock to get our chippy tea from Mario's. Food is bang on, huge portions. Kebab meat is a definite from here. Hand carved. None of this thin donner rubbish you get from other chippys

Had a Magic Bag on Thursday night & I have to say it was amazingly good value, food was plentiful, with great variety. Fed 4 of us with food to spare! Highly recommend 👍

My 1st visit, and found it google, and based on other reviews, i decided to try it. Wasnt dissapointed at all, all the reviews speak for themselves. The fish was the best i have had around the midlands, pure white flake. Kebab, battered chips and onion rings were great too, all topped with great customer service from all staff and owner.

By far the best chippy in the area - so good we drive 20mins each way to visit! Food is freshly cooked, delicious and non-greasy using excellent quality ingredients. Prices reasonable, portions plentiful and customer service 5*. Thank you Mario's Other Plaice 🙂

I purchased my first magic box from Mario’s at the weekend and the quantity of food was unbelievable. Great value for money. We always use Mario’s the food is of such a high standard, the staff are so pleasant. Definitely the best chip shop in the area, we wouldn’t go anywhere else. I would highly recommend Mario’s. I did a search for chip shops before we moved to the area last week and reviews were great so I gave it a go. The important criteria for my search was that they do orange or battered chips. I'm so glad I chose it. The food is exceptional. We shared mixed kebab meat and chips, fish and chips, chicken and mushroom pie, onion rings and battered sausage. All were great. All tasted fresh. Nice packaging, too. Check out opening times before you go. Edit Three months on and we are regular customers. Really friendly staff and always high standards. Try the gravy. It's lovely.

Staff are wonderful in here. Always have been. Food lovely, choice of chips,battered or plain. Fish cooked to order. We live a bit away from shop,but wouldn't go anywhere else.

Well what can I say, the food was to die for and generous portions, plenty of food options, including plain or battered chips and was made to feel very welcome by the staff. We will definitely be back.

Absolutely amazing! Staff are super friendly. Would definitely recommend the magic bags to everybody. All food was piping hot and very tasty. An excellent quantity that easily feeds a family of 4 (with older children). Outstanding value for money. Even if you aren't lucky enough to grab yourself a magic bag as they sell out super fast give this place a try as you will not be disappointed. We all thoroughly enjoyed our food thankyou.

Easily the best fish and chip shop in the area. Fish and chips always beautifully cooked. The kebabs are really good too, quality meat and big portions. Spotless premises and lovely staff. If you live near give it a go

Sorry but the fish and chips were awful. Was given a piece of fish along with a large piece which can only be described as batter no fish!! Not sure why the fish was put in a box separate to the chips. Asked for salt and vinegar which we could not taste on the food. Chips were disgusting - Was not very good and will not use this chip shop again. If I had been served this in a restaurant I would have sent it back and demanded my money back!

The staff are incredibly polite and friendly. The facilities are clean and welcoming. Easily one of the best chippys in the midlands if not the entirety of this country! The prices of the food are incredible aswell, very good for your money.

Always good food when I go there! Biggest issue is daft opening times.. if it’s open it’s good.

Been here 3 times now even though we live 3 miles away. The food and service are very good, as are the staff. If you get the chance, get one of their lucky bags. It's food that is left over at end of the night (pre ordering is required though).. For £5-10 you get approximately £50 of food. But they do not deliver, collection only

Definatly the best chippy in the Brownhills area. Staff are always friendly and helpful. But the star of the show is the food. The orange chips are perfection, the donner meat is perfect not to chewy and not to greasy. And the onion rings are excellent, fresh made, crispy and massive. Unlike other chip shops they aint stingy with the portion sizes either. The prices are excellent due to how good the food is also. Be warned if you go to Marios no other chip shop will be good enough.

Best chippy around! Mario goes out of his way to help his customers. Not once has he or his staff been anything other then friendly and helpful! Also the best fish and battered chips around! Don't forget to look for the special shapes too!!!

If I could give 10 stars I would it's the only place I would go in the area top staff and always polite the other week they had ran out of our usual meal but they phoned through to there other shop and had order made up ready for us to pick up top class people

One of the best chippy in brownhills. The battered chips in salt and vinegar are awesome. My favourite is the chicken tikka shredded with battered chips and salad with a dash of ketchup and mayonnaise 🤩

Popped in on Saturday afternoon. I bought battered sausage with chips n chick n chips. You can choose to have battered, plain or mixed chips which is a nice touch. Sausage was made with quality meat and thumbs up for the chicken. Marked down though for lack of customer service from the owner, his worker was however polite and professional so would buy again.

Wow, just been here for first time ever, the best chicken tikka I have had in a LONG time. It was fantastic! I usually go to the Mario's in the high street, but just for a change we went here even though its a little bit more out of the way (I actually stopped after starting to eat it just to take a picture for here). Blown away by how good the tikka meat was. Also the old man thought the mini fish was amazing!

Go here most weeks and never had a bad meal stunning food good portion sizes and very friendly staff that will go above and boyond to deliver excellent customer service not to mention they are constantly adding new and unique items to the menu some examples are battered black pudding and a giant pig in blanket keep an eye on their Facebook page to see what else is new and Intresting definitely worth popping in 👍
