Nice little back street pub, the landlord's a bit of a joker and offered to spark me out before I'd even bought a pint! Didn't try the food but the place was lively without being rowdy. Nice place and I'd drop by again.

I recommend a good scouse!!!!! And a nice atmosphere

Lovely little pub with great food

A quaint and very cozy pub with good music and great service. We came for the scouse and were not disappointed. Very authentic and as they say, one of the best in the city. The pizza is served like a tarte flambée and only with a pizza roller, something different. Both were super tasty. Stars and starlets are said to have come and gone here, we can understand why!

Just had a great Thursday night in here with the locals playing ukulele's... Get yourself down, you'll love it

As a first-time visitor to Liverpool, I couldn't miss the chance to try the city’s beloved classic - a traditional Scouse (stew). A friend highly recommended this place, calling it the best spot for an authentic bowl, and he wasn’t wrong! The moment I walked in, I noticed nearly every table had a bowl of Scouse, which only confirmed I was in the right place. Service was lightning-fast, the atmosphere warm and inviting, and the staff incredibly kind. But the real star? The dish itself - rich, flavorful, and undeniably fresh, with melt-in-your-mouth beef that made every bite a delight. A must-try for anyone visiting Liverpool. I’ll definitely be back for another bowl!

Pizza and a pint, can't go wrong, Laurel and Hardy Pizza (Meat feast) was fresh and home made. Great place.

A legendary pit stop for a last pint before the train leaves. Very handy for the theatre too. Used to be Nellie and Bert’s pub, both epic characters. We used to arrive on a Saturday for the football. We’d get there at quarter to eleven, it didn’t open till 11, but if you banged on the window the cleaner would let you in. “Boys, do you want a pint while we wait to open?” The pub used to be packed out after hours midweek, full of policemen. Easily the safest pub in Liverpool. The policemen were supposed to be pounding the streets. But they were in the pub. Their sergeant knew what was going on, so he introduced a quota of arrests per night. It was decided that a typical number of arrests per night would be 5. Well the Bizzies didn’t want to miss their drink because of the quota. So they left the pub at 4am (as usual) and merely arrested the first 5 people they met. Everyone’s happy, apart from those they arrested, of course.

This is a very popular pub. Staff are great good beer. But for us it's the scouse. We food and two drinks each.

Didn't eat any food . But staff and beers we're excellent

The menu is limited. Scouse, cheese/meat platters and multiple pizza options. But the food is good! You cant beat the beer selection and the staff service. Well crowded for a Friday lunch time eased off later. We left at 3pm well sated and 'oiled'.

Surprise pub in the shadows of the stage door- I'm sure they get a big after show crowd.

Classic pub around corner from Lime Street Railway. Guinness & large Sauv Blanc = £12 - not too bad. Mixed clientele. Interesting decor. Looks closed from outside but adds to character! On Thursday evening, through the back, looked like a bring your own instrument and added to atmosphere.

If you find yourself in Liverpool you have to have a drink or food or both in this well established pub. Amazing!! The Staff put this pub on the map!! Marc is the best!!!

Love this place, great food at decent prices. We had dishes of scouse with bread and butter for £9, well worth it. Dessert are limited but also cheap. Will certainly visit again.

Small friendly "stage door" bar behind the Empire. Decorated with photos of stars through the ages. Good beer selection with a few real ales. Guiness was on point. Tried the Scouse & was excellent. Footy crowd at tea time before match so very busy. Get in around 4.30 to avoid.

Excellent historical pub with great real ale. Worth a visit to have a chat with the knowledgeable landlord and look at the interior of the pub.

It’s a grand old historic Scouse pub with grand Scouse scran, grand Scouse ale and friendly, grand Scouse staff.

Miserable beardy man “served” me. His obvious hatred of humanity killed the atmosphere in the place. Decent pint though.

If you're travelling via Liverpool and have time to spare don't go the spoons on the station walk out the side of the station and try out this brilliant old school pub it's the proper Liverpool experience I've been coming here as long as I remember it's fab

Always a nice drink, small enough for a friendly atmosphere, strangers end up chatting, top staff, the scouse is worth trying, outside area if prefer that.

Just time for a quick bite before going to see Wicked! We hadn't booked a table, although many had (maybe next time). Good to be told that the kitchen closed at 6:45 while we were waiting for our daughter to arrive by train. We will be back.

I’ve eaten here plenty of times and they do amazing pizza! It can get busy around popular theatre times as the theatre is just next door, so I’d advise checking theatre times so you can get a table!

The Scouse and the Yorkshire pudding Scouse were really tasty for a fair price. Really close to the station, literally crossing the street, to grab a pint and a stew before your travel.

A long time since I had a comfortable bowl of Scouse. But to ask a Yorkshire lad if he wanted it in a Yorkshire pudding.... No brainer! Delicious!! The guy who served me was lovely and kind to the rest of the customers. I can't really comment on the atmosphere as it was me and 2 other tables of 3-4, but I can imagine it having a great traditional pub atmosphere.

I've not tried the food, but they serve great Beers 👍 The staff are very helpful and friendly, there's lots of seats/tables and the atmosphere is great, very warm and cozy 😎 Also a great place to visit for a drink before the Theatre 😉

As always when ever in Liverpool make apoint to visit. It's part of the city's history with photo of film stars good service friendliness from staff and people passing through awaiting trains. But on top of all that the food 5 stars.

Spoke to awfully, more interested in packing in people. Would have stayed for food but went elsewhere. Used to come often but had not been for a while. Not coming back. Further, sort out the toilets.

It's an intimate venue. It's had its fair share of stars in there over the years. Their pictures are all over the walls. The staff are great. The seats are comfortable. The drinks are reasonable. The selection is great for the size of the place. On a Thursday, you'll find a fantastic Ukulele group playing. Fantastic for a sing along. Was there the day David Bowie died. Two people from the theatre came along with a portable piano. They played and sang a medley of all of his hits. We all sang along. One of the most bittersweet times of my life. It's just quintessentially Scouse. If you're new to the city. You'll be hard pressed to find a more fitting example of the best of Liverpool. And try the Scouse. Boss tha

Not been here for a while, popped in Saturday. It's the sort of pub where people will talk to you. Old fashioned boozer, near Lime St station.

Almost no meat in the scouse, asked for the one in a yorkshire pudding (Only sundays) but got the regular one without explanation (?)

Bit quiet when I was there, got overcharged on three shots (£8) and I was served a pint of lemonade when I asked for a half. Lovely old style pub, plenty of character.
