Ithaca in High Peak

We ate here tonight before going to the opera house . We ordered the butter king prawns for a shared starter which was good . For main my partner had the sea food risotto which he said was very tasty but we had to ask for a plate for the mussel shells. I had the mousaka it was piping hot and burnt round the edges . It was not the best one I have every had and when I mentioned to the young girl serving about the burnt edges she said yes it comes like that . Disappointing

My husband and I booked an early table here on Friday evening. We had eaten here before last year and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Sadly this visit didn’t quite match it. The charismatic owner was not on the shop floor and we were subjected to a barrage of young waiting staff, who had all learnt their lines but didn’t quite have the skills to manage guests in an attentive manner. If you stopped chewing for a second your plate was whisked away. My husband hadn’t finished his started and before he could say so the plate was cleared and we were delivered our mains. My husband’s meal was good (he had the lamb shank), I had the trio of lamb which I have to say was disappointing. I’ve had more lamb on my plate from a kebab shop at a fraction of the cost, and the lamb that was on the plate was floating in rather runny tzatziki with some limp chips on the side. Luckily they seem to have an abundance of pitta bread, which was probably the tastiest thing on the plate. Between the over zealous young staff and mediocre food I’m not sure we’ll be rushing back. We both had a starter and main course and were in and out in less than 60 minutes.

We visited for a meal before going tot the Buxton Opera house, we had a lovely meal with good service. Would go again , had a good atmosphere and was very busy ( need to book ). The Greek wine was very good.

Highly recommended. The host Yanis was a delight as were the young waitresses. The sea bass was delicious. The atmosphere was great and we returned the next day for another pre theatre meal, which was delicious again. It's a pity we live so far away, otherwise wre would eat here all the time.

We were really looking forward to visiting during our holiday in Buxton - checked website and media. Turned up at 7 on a Tuesday - closed! No explanation, the opening times on the menu outside said they should be open. Went elsewhere (not much choice) who were turning people away who had not booked (we were lucky).

Busy Greek restaurant with extensive menu. We both had delicious kleftiko and would happily return. Mythos bottled or draught beer is another draw

The owner or manager Yanis, was very helpful with my gluten, dairy and soya free diet. He was able adapt menu items to suit. The service was excellent and the food so good we went back the following night. Great atmosphere although a little loud at times. Not the fault of the manager but the customers! If I’m ever back in Buxton I wouldn’t hesitate to return to Ithaca.

We came here without booking but they managed to seat us immediately. The staff were all very friendly and menu was so good it was hard to choose from. The food was delicious and authentic. I would highly recommend eating here

My wife and I have visited Buxton a number of times over the years, but this restaurant seems to have slipped under the radar. So glad we found it now because it's very good indeed. Nice tables and seating areas inside Quality food well presented, attention to detail here. Garlic mushrooms as a shared starter lovely, followed by mixed kebabs with some of the nicest crisp little roast potatoes you will find in a restaurant. Staff friendly and reasonable prices for food and wines under current economy. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals and no hesitation to recommend, even for the more discerning diner. We are visitors to Buxton and have eaten at Ithaca twice (last April and tonight). On both occasions the food has been freshly cooked and delicious and the service is excellent... These staff have been well trained. Highly recommend.

Booked this before the theatre, excellent food. We had bruschetta and stuffed vine leaves to start, really tasty. Followed by sea bass and a mixed kebab with chips and salad, very good. Not much In choice of pudding was given the wrong menu and that had some lovely sounding puds on but sadly no longer available. Didn’t detract from the service or food all excellent

We managed to book a last minute table at Ithaca for New Year’s Eve and we’re so glad we did! The food was incredible and tasted amazing. The menu was really varied and authentic. I had the baked feta and the sea bass, which was delicious. My partner had the lamb kleftico and goats cheese to start, which was amazingly rich and the meat was super tender. The service was brilliant and we hardly had to wait for our food, despite it being a very busy night for the restaurant. And to top it off, the price was very reasonable for the amazing meal you get (including great cocktails and digestives). If you’re in Buxton, you really should visit this place because it’s amazing!

Really nice restaurant great atmosphere great staff such a shame about the food , we were expecting typical Greek food with great taste but what we got was OK at best borderline bland.I had the meatball in tomato sauce to start the meat balls were tasteless and the sauce just bland rather like a plain tomato purée really not the highly seasoned tasty traditional Greek style food I was hoping for, for mains I went for the tarragon chicken unfortunately again just really bland and lacking any real taste or depth. My wife had a similar experience with her fish cake starter and chicken souvlaki nothing like what we have experienced in many a Greek tavern on our many island holidays. Added to the bland food we had to move tables mid meal due to a booking mixup (not so much as a complimentary drink by way of an apology) In summary really disappointed nothing like an authentic Greek food we could have literally been in any English restaurant. Definitely not one for a return visit and this is a shame as the restaurant and atmosphere were great.

Pre show meal, we picked something different (to us), and I’m so glad we did! Friendly relaxed atmosphere with delicious Greek food - not too much, and all very tasty. We were glad we’d booked as many people were turned away and the restaurant quickly filled up. Definitely recommend and when we’re in Buxton again we’ll be returning here for dinner.

Before going to a show we nipped for early tea - last minute. Full menu, lots of options for gluten free too! Food was plentiful, delicious, piping hot and really authentic. Thanks for a great start to our night!

Been here several times now for a pre-theatre dinner. The staff are so welcoming and you feel treated as if you were a friend, and the food is excellent too.!! This time I choose the lamb chops as a main. They were wonderful. Perfectly char-grilled on the outside, moist and pink inside. Was also impressed by the Greek Sauvignan Blanc. Quite full bodied and with oodles of flavour. We will be back

Had an extremely flavoursome meal. Started with a meze, which was huge and had lots of choice on it. My friend had souvlaki for main and I had lamb chops and Greek roast potatoes. The best roasts I have had in a restaurant, very, very tasty. No room for dessert so had liqueur coffees. Very reasonable price for what we had and the quality of the food. Would definitely recommend.

I ordered the trio of lamb and it was awful and hardly any food on the plate . One small tough unseasoned lamb chop. 3 Lamb cubes so tiny and burnt and one sausage again so tasteless and over cooked the size of a thumb . All this for £23 . I told the waitress I couldn’t eat it and she just said , oh sorry ! Then overheard the lady next to me saying the same and the waiter again just saying sorry . This is so unacceptable. I feel like they stole my money and spoilt my evening as it was obvious they do not care about their customers. Don’t go there the food is awful

Amazing find, we hadn’t booked and were so happy they fitted us in! The food was spectacular, the staff were brilliant. Prices were very good, we will be back next time we visit Buxton.

We enjoyed our meal here. I wouldn't say it was spectacular but certainly a good solid enjoyable meal. Staff were friendly and seemed to know what was going on - just don't ask for any substitutions on the platters! Restaurant is nicely decorated and modern. Would come back if in Buxton.

What a lovely find in Buxton. We were able to get a table on a Wednesday night without booking even though they were pretty full after being unlucky elsewhere. We love Greek food in Greece and this place didn't disappoint. We shared spinach pies and Calamari to start both of which were absolutely delicious, then a mixed kebab for me and husband had lamb chops with a lovely bottle of wine. All very reasonable price, excellent friendly service and delicious food. We love the peak district and now we have discovered this restaurant in Buxton we will definitely be back next year.
