Housing Units in Oldham

We have bought bar stools and lighting from this shop recently and whilst some of the lighting was not trouble free the attitude and action of the staff on all departments was exemplary - pleasant, and helpful. We can't praise them enough and will be buying from them again. And the coffee is good !

Goods came damaged which forced us to sleep on the floor for a week. ‘Management’ decided our ordeal was acceptable and did not compensate. A simple Quality Assurance check would have saved us a weeks worth of heartache but expect ZERO quality from Housing units

I have bought several items from the store, and the staff have always been curtious, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. The products have always been top quality. Love the service and the products and look forward to shopping there again.

Fantastic service from beginning to end all my order arrived on day promise, delivery men delivered and assembled all my items, very polite and friendly.

I purchased a dining table and chairs nearly 3 years ago and one of the chairs broke. Yvonne very kindly arranged for a free replacement, even though it wasn’t strictly covered by the guarantee. It’s not very often that you get exceptional after-sales service, so I’ll definitely be purchasing from Housing Units again. Thanks so much, great job 🙏🏼

We have been good customers of Housing units for as long as I can remember but we will not be buying even a cup of coffee from them anymore. We purchased all our furniture for our new house four bedroomed house just a couple of years ago, including beds and all our light fittings. If you shop there regularly you will know that they are overpriced, we didn’t mind because we thought we were getting quality furniture from a very reputable furniture store! Don’t be fooled, we had a problem developed on a chest of drawers which is white glass with mirrored trim, and the mirrored glass has started to peel off in one place. Usually you can expect mirrors to do this after 10 to 15 years, anyway we took pictures and sent them to customer service and to our astonishment we had a response saying it was only guaranteed for 12 months and they were unable to help. We could have bought this furniture considerably cheaper at bargain furniture stores and would then have expected this sort of response, but given we paid top price we would have expected a lot better of this company. I’m writing this because my wife always reads the reviews, so they might be very nice and open doors for you, but in our case they soon slam them shut on you once they have taken your money. Buyers beware!! I have had a response from the owner, so I will see what happens next 🤷‍♂️ Strange I’ve had two acknowledgments from the owner asking me for the details, I have contacted customer services three times since then with the details, on the last time I asked for confirmation of the receipt of the email I sent and heard nothing back, strange customer service 🤷‍♂️ An update on this review, Housing units after reading this review have made an agreeable offer that I have accepted, so I’m pleased about this and I will be shopping at Housing Units in the future 😊

My parents bought some bar stools from here, and they have worn really badly. When complaining about these I was offered a partial credit note. However when trying to find an alternative the credit note does not cover the cost of any replacement. However a member of staff in-store offered me replacements, which would be great. Since then they have now changed their minds and have gone back on their word. DON’T BUY ANYTHING FROM HOUSING UNITS- I will never shop there again

The whole process from ordering the furniture to delivery, was excellent! The furniture arrived on the delivery date given by the manufacturers and delivered to me three days later. The delivery team were excellent as they ensured that no damage to the property or furniture occurred and managed to figure out how to get the larger sofa in through the door? Lol. Overall an amazing experience and I will definitely be buying from Housing Units again in the near future!!

I have Bought a few beautiful ornaments and coffee tables and nest of tables from the store, the members of staff what had served me gave excellent customer service.

Not the best experience. Went to get a quote for curtains a couple of months ago. Agreed I would pay a deposit of £25 to their fitter who was doing the measurements, for his time. Whilst trying to arrange an appointment with the fitter via the shop staff, I was left a message he wanted an extra £75 (£100 total) to do the measurements which wasn’t what was agreed so told them to sod off. The fitter is a contractor apparently.

I love housing units.. I actually worked there many years ago… we went to see the Christmas department… please put Santa at the doorway I missed him and so did my family😢 it seemed very expensive this year I thought too… We went for breakfast and I’m sorry to say I was a little disappointed I had cheese on toast (which was delicious) and a pot of tea the cup was badly stained on the inside so I took it back the lady was very apologetic but the other cup she gave me was also stained I had to wipe it with the serviette also the teapot under the spout was badly stained… We walked around the furniture department the staff were lovely and greeted us with a smile… the furniture is beautiful my daughter is buying a house and is looking for furniture to fill it.. she and her partner were very impressed.. but as we walked around we noticed there were me two mirrors on the wall side by side one of them had fingerprints all over it..I said that is not housing Units standards what’s going on! it’s not put us off going again for sure but I felt a little sad as I know Mr Fox snr would not of been happy.. Had a fantastic afternoon here with my sister. The showrooms are incredible and packed with everything you need to fully furnish your home. Staff were happy, friendly and very helpful. Had a delicious roast lunch in the lovely restaurant where the gentleman playing the piano as we dined was the icing on the cake of a wonderful day and well worth the hour or so we traveled to visit.

We bought some garden furniture online and it was delivered in just over a week of ordering! Laura, who organised our delivery, was very efficient and friendly. The delivery drivers, Arthur and Craig, were brilliant. They set up our new garden furniture, were respectful of my property and explained how it worked thoroughly. A pleasure from start to finish! We already rate Housing Units very highly for their principal function of supplying furniture and other products, having been customers there for a long time but this review is for the Wickentree Restaurant on site. I visit the restaurant with two friend regularly when in the area and we met there for breakfast on Tuesday. All the staff excel with customers and are consistently polite and very efficient but in particular Jodie who served us to take our order is an absolute star, we love saying hello to her, she is just amazing to deal with. The food too is always first class, presentation, value, quality....well done to Housing Units for providing the restaurant and businesscin a very challenging retail market.

Since writing this review and visiting recently I was even more disappointed with the quality and range of furniture, the vast majority marked down Chinese products, most of it looked tacky, footballers wives meets traveller tastes so I wouldn't bother. The coffee comes from a push-button cheap cafe machine and the cakes were pathetic and very overpriced..anyone cares to disagree.? The owners are also meant to be quite greedy and arrogant, they don't seem to care about customers other than their bank accounts. 'Team HU' are replying to reviews but it's evident they are having problems with the fact the furniture is junk from China with high lead times. It's also strange how all of a sudden there are over 1000 glowing reviews for this junk. They want to seem exclusive but only sell overpriced furniture to old ladies, including coffees for £7 you don't get a complimentary biscuit with wholesale Costco cakes at huge markups. There is far more to this ripp off place than meets the eye though. The Fox family that runs it are arrogant and awful people to work for. They could not give a toss if something goes wrong with your products, in fact you may as well see what you like and buy from the internet, it would serve them right for taking people for granted. The staff in generally arhard-workingng and friendly although some older members can treat the younger staff with contempt resulting in them leaving, which seems to be part of the culture unfortunately. It's the management however with the real problem who treat the staff poorly, especially the ones in the lower paid roles. To the point of customers complaining about their attitude towards the staff in front of customers on the shop floor. There used to be lots of nice things at Housing Units, it's mostly cheap Chinese rubbish and if your expensive wardrobes and draws fall apart you'll find yourself going to the Ombudsman for help who probably won't help much either, true story. If yofireplaceace leaves sut and is poorly fitted you'll struggle to get anywhere with them other than a defensive response. It's all about money here and how much they can sell you with limited focus on value aftersales. I've heard all kinds of factual stories on how the management treats staff like dirt, poor to non-existent aftersales to a tradesman nearly having a nervous breakdown after a job didn't go well. Find smaller quality furniture companies from a genuine family firm that cares about its customers and staff, avoid these sharks if you can shop around, if not use the internet for the same thing cheaper. Like the furniture shop over the road (now closed). Housing Units tried every underhand trick in the book to force them out of business. once they have your money they simply don't care, so don't expect anything special because it's 'Housing Units'. The man opening and closing the door creates a sense of exquisite service and quality but don't be fooled.

So pleased with our dining room furniture. We had looked around at other stores found the one we really wanted here at housing units. There is a lovely relaxing atmosphere about the place. A proper department store 😊

The delivery was seamless, the delivery guys removed the existing mattress before installing the new mattress. Once installed they ensured we were completely satisfied with the product before removing all packaging and bidding a found farewell. Very professional team, well mannered and would recommend Housing Units to anybody. Well done HU team, see you soon.

I called Hu Housing to make a payment and Allison had been a wonderful person, helped me out and was one of the nicest persons ever, her customer service is top notch and I would recommend anyone who call to make a payment to go through her as she was so easygoing and kind!!

We purchased two extremely good quality chesterfield sofas from HU over three years ago . They are outstanding quality and one issue we had was that one of the button studs came undone. We did not take any aftercare on the sofas but rang them anyway for advice. The lady that dealt with us was incredible. She arranged for an upholstery company to come to our home on a date and time to suit us to rectify the issue. This was completed all free of charge . We will always purchase from this company in future not merely because they sell good quality items but because their customer service was outstanding (something which is extremely rare nowadays).

We have been today to buy several pieces of furniture, we were served by a lovely professional lady called Alison she is a credit to your company, it was our second visit in four days, both times she was very knowledgeable and helpful she put no pressure on us to buy anything and it was a very pleasant experience, please pass on our very best to her .

Good service when I went in. Was not able to insure an that I paid over £1000 as I did not take it on the day.. considering I had other priorities.. rang on the day the item was delivered no answer (was on the call for 15 mins )(as we get busy i rang back 5 days later) to say I would get a call back to see if this is doable.. no one called so then chased up again to be told this was not possible.. 1st time shopping here and probably last unfortunately.

We are so pleased with our Evonic fire. The service from Alex was first class. She absolutely knew everything there was to know about fires. The choice was amazing. Would definitely recommend.

HU was relatively easy to find and there was ample free parking available on the day we visited. The store is large and there was a really good selection of furniture available. We were looking to purchase a dining table with six chairs and the staff were very friendly and obliging, moving chairs from one area of the store to another so that we could see how they looked with the table and how they compared with each other. The staff were also good enough to leave us to speak privately when we wanted to and there was no hard sell. We decided to purchase the table and chairs and the ordering process was easy. We were told delivery would be within 7 weeks but it was actually quicker than this (4 weeks), which were were delighted with. The delivery itself was very straightforward and we were kept informed throughout. The delivery people were very polite and considerate of our house (they put down sheets to protect the wooden floor whilst they assembled the table). The table and chairs are lovely - excellent quality and we are really pleased with how they look in the room.

I found out today that my operation was this Friday as they have had a cancellation. I immediately telephoned H Units to cancel my delivery for this Friday. I was then told to re arrange delivery I would have to pay another £79!!! So much for good customer service!!! As £79 is expensive I will have to cancel my operation In answer to your reply the dining room suite is not a discounted range it is current. Please check online! Also I received a phone call to say the chairs were not in stock until the beginning of April so I don’t know where you get February from. Anyway I will be there on Friday and just hoping that the delivery men take care as the reviews regarding customers deliveries is appalling

I visited the store based on a friend’s feedback. The store staff was very warm, but my overall experience became bitter. The unit had been dropped at the doorway, and they declined to put it into the room, though it was room furniture. When the chair was bought, I was told they were the same colour, “ivory”, but later turned out different. I asked to return it, but they are charging 25% restocking charges + £79 return fee. I was not told about these T&Cs, which I may have signed. Having conversations with customer care for weeks but still not resolved. Given two stars for the quality of the goods otherwise, they deserve one in my experience.

Could not be happier with our sofas & foot stool, the quality is superb. The customer service from Jane was immeasurable throughout the whole process of our purchases & the delivery. She went above & beyond for us, in order to obtain our snuggle chair in our chosen design. She was polite, smiley, funny & she constantly kept us updated. She is a total credit to the Housing Units team & should you encounter her there on a visit, you will not be disappointed with her customer service. Also a special mention to the delivery guys, as you can’t fault them either. They are polite, chatty & very respectful when inside your home.

Staff in store were really pleasant and very helpful. We purchased a bed this time which was delivered and erected by the delivery guys who also were very nice and did a great job with the upmost respect for my property. All products are of the highest standard and we couldn't be more pleased with any of the furniture we have bought.

After spending a small fortune of 4 counter stools and 6 dinning chairs which all need to be assembled. I found that 3 of the dining chairs had the odd rubber stoppers missing from the bottom of the legs which made then wobble. I've had to patch these with my own rubber stoppers so that the legs sit firm and don't wobble... it's a bit annoying and even though the chairs look great, it's amazing how the smallest, and cheapest part of the chair malfunctioned and upsets the whole balance of the item....

Disingenuous time wasters. Left to wait for 2 months for an item the website said was in stock. No communication. Avoid

The staff were friendly, professional and polite and went out of their way to ensure that I got exactly wat I needed. The delivery went like clockwork despite it being made to Keswick, Cumbria and the 2 guys who brought the furniture couldn't have worked harder. Amazing service - I recommend HU to anyone

Went to the Wickentree for Sunday lunch - avoid it! Appalling basically. Waited 45 mins for a poor lunch - 5 slices of wafer this roast beef, the smallest Yorkshire pudding which was like rubber, 2 roast potatoes which has no crunch to them, 1 new potatoes which was like mush, carrot battons nd beans were ok and the small portion of cauliflower cheese was actually good. But for near £17 I would expect something pretty special! So, shocking service and rubbish food - can’t recommend at all, find somewhere else!

Incompetent staff. Before buying a sofa we liked( Maria manager) said we can provide an access check to see if it would fit through the front door this was done by John who confirmed to my husband that it would fit (they had done lots like ours) his words. We paid for the sofa and guess what on day of delivery it would not fit. Causing untold upset .I rang the showroom spoke to Laurie another manager.who said it will be returned and a full refund would be given, not what I expected to here explained about incompetent John and that the service was not good enough.. If I could have rated this No Stars I would have. Would not recommend Housing Units. Customer service Zero.

HU store is great, it is the small touches that make the difference such as the men holding the doors open, my children were disappointed when he was on a break one day when we arrived. My only reason for not giving 5 stars, is I waited in for my delivery and they forgot half my order, for the items I did receive (a large marble fireplace) I was forced to sign to say I was happy with it and that it wasn't damaged, however I couldn't check it as it was in a crate. Luckily it was well packaged and no damage however I did feel pressured and unhappy signing for it as they wouldn't leave it if I didn't and would have had a headache if any issues. I then had to re-arrange my delivery of other items, contact HU direct as no-one called me as promised by the drivers, although they came out 2 days later with missing items, it was another 1/2 day of me waiting in for them with no apology.

We just purchased a fire surround and electric fire from Housing Units. Having just had them installed they look superb. The whole transaction from viewing to delivery has been faultless. Arrived on the date and time quoted, and the delivery man were so helpful and accommodating which is not always the case., Overall exactly what you would hope foe but rarely today recieve.

Terrible customer service after sales

Firstly, narrowly missed the end of a sale and they honoured the price! Also, easy ordering process from Housing Units and my crockery all arrived beautifully packaged up, no problems whatsoever with delivery. Couldn’t recommend more highly.

If you’re buying from Housing Units because they offer a 2 year guarantee beware. I bought an ottoman bed and the pistons failed whilst under guarantee. A very nice chap came to take a look at the beginning of October. I was told they would order the replacement parts and get it fixed for me. I then received an email explaining that the bed was actually manufactured in China and the replacement parts would need to ordered and shipped from the manufacturer. 3 months on and I’m still waiting. I’m now told that the original ETA was provisional and I will have to wait. No apology, just an email telling me I’ll have to wait and they will send me another email once the parts are shipped. Not the service I hoped for!

Ordering process was easily but Housing Units sent us a damaged item (packaged a lamp without any protection in the box) and gave every excuse under the sun as to why they couldn’t provide a replacement before July 2024 (over 6 months away). Poor customer service and couldn’t care less when I’ve tried to find a solution. Awaiting my refund and will not purchase from here again.

Ordered my bed and mattress on the Saturday from the outlet. It arrived the following Thursday at the exact time it had been arranged for. The two delivery guys put the bed together for me and cleared all packaging. Very pleasant experience from beginning to end.

Ordered the Bronx dining table and chairs, it was delivered in the timescale given and I was really impressed with the service upon delivery, the table was put up quickly for us with no mess left behind. The table and chairs are of really good quality and we love it. Thank you.

the best service I have received at the most stressful time of ones life when shifting a whole house. From ordering a sofa to getting delivered at the new address when no one can find it .. not only the staff was so helpful but the delivery staff WAS EXTREMELY UNDERSTANDING AND RESPECTFUL towards the new carpets and doors when shifting my beautiful sofa into the property and how they brought their own sheets to put down before they entered in, and all the advices given at the till point regarding the insurance and cover and how to look after it and not only that , the fact housing unit itself has the best way to look after their customers through their insurance policies. it might feel a lot to pay as an extra but the fact it has secured that amount for 5 years if they can't fix the problem , I think its absolutely brilliant. and I have literally not stopped telling this to anyone who's complimented my furniture. very happy n satisfied

At beginning this place seems lovely the staff at the showroom seem nice. However the after sales customer service is shocking. I ordered bedroom furniture costing over 5K. I had it delivered and every piece of the furniture had defect's/marks on. The delivery drivers had damaged my property. I called the customer service they advised me to email everything which I did. As a result of this I received a phone call from a representative who was unhelpful. He insisted of an engineer to come and rectify the issue. The engineer couldn’t resolve this causing me inconvenience. Very bad customer service I am in the process of complaint to Furniture Ombudsman.

Bought a dining table and chairs from Housing Units. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The quality of products are also very high standard.

So my friend and I attended today for a Christmas day out and had the Beef Stroganoff. Firstly, the plates were cold and the chips were lukewarm. Secondly there was the smallest bit of rice I've ever seen and the actual beef came on a skillet. There was no sauce to speak of plus what tiny bit there was it was stuck in the grooves of the skillet and the skillet was too hot to handle. This "deconstructed" way of serving your stroganoff is the strangest thing I've ever seen and the price was an eye watering £15.50. Very disappointed indeed!!

Bought a fire for a media wall from Housing Units. The assistant could not have been more helpful. She spent time with us showing us the different options available, answering all our questions and helped us make an informed decision about the appliance. Would highly recommend. We bought a lovely dining room table and chairs set. The service in store from one of your very professional colleagues was wonderful. She was so helpful and such a nice person a great asset to your team. We currently haven't put the table together as yet as we are still working on the new kitchen. 😁😁😁

Bought house stuff from here before, called in to look at lights, could not find any (a lot of tacky shiny chrome stuff from China at big money) so went into their Wickentree cafe for some lunch, wish we hadnt bothered. The prices were ridiculous for what was served. "Mango and Brie Crispy Bites served with sweet chilli sauce £5.95..." This was two tiny out of the freezer filo bites deep fried with a thimble of sauce! "Homemade Soup of the Day £6.95..." Decent soup but tiny 1/2 size bowl with a small piece of bread.. "Hot Chicken and Bacon Caesar Wrap with hot chicken fillet, dry cured bacon, cos lettuce, parmesan cheese and caesar dressing £10.50.." Gosh, sounds great however reality was way diffrent! Not hot, no cheese and about 1/2 the size of a wrap you get for lunch from Tesco! "Large Chips £4.25" These were a joke, a small shaker of frozen fries, we questioned the portion, they said it was the large, we told them it was ridiculous and sent it back for a credit. The pleasant person serving agreed and said it is crazy, poor staff having to suffer needless customer issues. We dont mind paying the prices provided its decent value and quality but not when they are taking the mick. No wonder the owners cut about in Porsches and Bentleys with multi-million pound homes. Fair play if they gave decent value but shame on em' for ripping normal folk off! AVOID Stick to John Lewis...

I absolutely love housing units. I have had a few things from there and the quality is outstanding. Recently just purchased a new kettle and toaster for my new property which are fabulous. If I could afford to, I would buy the whole store!

In the past few weeks I have been to multiple furniture stores for sofas and a dining table but nothing really caught my eye. I don’t know why I didn’t go to housing units first as I pretty much fell in love with every product on the shop floor and placed an order straightaway. A huge thank you to Abigail for her assistance today. She was friendly, welcoming and went above and beyond by helping me decide on colours that would match my decor at home from videos in my camera roll. Will definitely be back again!

I've bought small household items whenever I've visited the store and large furniture items for delivery. Housing Units is a unique store which offers selective superb designer products. There is such a wide range of exceptional products under one roof where you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else. The store displays look beautiful. The staff are welcoming. I challenge anyone to visit Housing units either on line or instore and not find something to buy or include on their wish list. Outstanding. The only reason I have given a 3 for location is for me to visit the store is a 6hour round trip. How lucky you are if you live nearer.
