Hartwood Hall - Pub & Grill in Chorley

Popped in for lunch. The Camembert cheese was delicious but the other two mains were pretty average. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Friendly quick service. Food was hot and fresh. Quiet day when we went but nicely decorated and lots of light in the pub.

The Sunday roast was below standard the roast potatoes were hard the veg was over cooked

This was a last minute thing, booked online an hour prior to arriving. Bar staff & waitresses very friendly, had a laugh with the 2 that dealt with me & my mate. The Guinness was lovely! The food was absolutely delicious! Squid cooked perfectly, the Steak on my meal was cooked to perfection! This is definitely the best Greene King i’d been to! Will be going again with the Wife soon! Had an error with my Bill, they put 2 drinks on that i hadn’t ordered, but this was sorted without fuss. Oh yeah, i must add…. The Peppercorn Sauce is a MUST!!!! It was amazeballs!! 🥵

Fillet steak was not fillet,asked for med got overcooked, onion rings looked like they'd been stomped on, bernaise sauce curdled, absolutely shocking, will not be eating here again

Can be busy a bit busy at times but is a great priced bar & grill, just need to time it well. Fab service, especially from Niamh on the bar.

The pub advertise a glutton free option and when we arrived I was given this along with the normal menu. So far so good. Ordered 2 drinks and then the waitress arrived. I explained that we would like to order one item from the gluten free menu and one from normal menu. We were then told that they could not guarantee gluten free. Okay we said we would take a chance and ordered hunters chicken from the “ gluten free” menu and gammon from a la cart menu. So ten minutes the meals arrived. The hunters chicken looked awful and tasted even worse and I was presented with salmon and not the gammon I had ordered. I said to thecwaitress who was very apologetic, that I would have the salmon. That was another mistake. It was soooo over cooked and I just couldn’t eat it. So not to make a fuss we just asked for the bill and left. Needless to say we will not be returning.

Nice little pub, the grilled gammon was a good size and juicy 😋. Service was friendly and the food didn't take too long to come after ordering. The little one enjoyed the Mac n Cheese. Deserts were good. Some of the decor needs a bit of tidying up, our wobbly table was a bit of pain. All in all I'd go back for another meal. The turn into the carpark is basically straight off the roundabout, so take your time as I missed it 1st time round 🤣

Popped in with my sister after visiting Mum in hospital. Chargrilled chicken burger delicious and well cooked, Sunday Roast next day was lovely with a nice side of cauliflower cheese 😜. Good beer selection, friendly staff and nice decor make for a very pleasant time spent in their. 👏 Bravo

Amazing place, the staff are really professional yet friendly, the food was lovely. I had the honey chicken burger, it was fantastic, sweet and spicy, but just the right amount (for reference I normally eat Korma from the Indian and cant deal with spicy food); The fries were also seasoned to perfection. For desert, I had the honeycomb cheesecake, which was quite a light and fluffy cheesecake. It had a caramel sauce and a Cadbury's crunchy bar cut up on top and was served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It's not the best cheesecake I've ever had, but it's certainly not the worst. All in all, I'd say it's one of the better pubs to eat in the area and working out at exactly £25 a head for a (soft) drink main and desert, 100% worth it. I'm a little disappointed I didn't take any photos, but I'll be back. Also, noteworthy, service was fast, and we were fed before we started to get bored waiting.

Went here for our Christmas family outing. There were about 30 of us. It was fabulous. Couldn't fault it in anyway. We had a buffet which was presented well. Arrived on time and was very good. No complaints from anyone. The staff were so nice. Very helpful and pleasant. We had our own reserved part of the restaurant which was to the side away from others. The cost was very reasonable. A very enjoyable pleasant experience. I feel we will make this our at least yearly place to go.

Had a family gathering here for an evening meal and drinks. Great choice of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at reasonable prices. The food was very tasty, good portions and decently priced. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would go back again

Came as a guest,(10 in the group booking). The waiter Arran was very friendly, very knowledgeable on the menu. He took order without writing anything down. Impresive! Each person in group was asked how their meat they ordered was to be cooked. With a large group - jugs of iced water were put on table - no charge. Not one mistake on any order including sides.

Worst place in Lancashire to eat food is disgusting served by 3 very rude children and an even ruder manager .I was even charged for a desert I didn't even have or order ? Never again nice building shocking staff .no wonder it had 6 people in on a Sunday at 6 pm ..

I did give a good review about a year ago but something has changed, found the food was not as good and staff look down in the dumps, what ever has changed is down to management to get back to a good night out and a better meal, Alan with family

Only 5 people in when we got there (8:30 on a Sunday) got told last food order was 8:40, but the website says 9:00 last booking for a table (but odd that!) food was reasonable, not great but good enough. Staff were nice and friendly enough , reasonable value for money.

Poor service, very slow. Over 15 minutes just for drinks. Food when it came was ok.

December 2024 We have been coming here every Friday for our weekly Friday tea, the staff are amazing especially Bobby , Ben, Ada and Lucy, they always provide a service above and beyond! We will be returning for the first Friday Tea of 2025. You are all fantastic, the food and service you can not fault ! You are all caring, helpful sometimes full of joy and bants. Contacted to arrange a group gathering for drinks and spoke with Nieve who was wonderful from start to finish, excellent customer service and always the warmest of welcomes. I will have visited 3 times in the past 3 weeks, and I do not live in the locality! The first two visits were excellent and the food was lovely, service was prompt and friendly and Gabriella was extremely attentive - hence the repeat business.

I asked for a bbq burger and they said yes. The waitress- who claims he had been working there for too long- was trying to memorise the order in his damn head with his damn memory. We were all impressed( for now) until the food came… everybody got what they wanted other than me, I got a king size bbq platter.

Food was delicious and portions huge however the price tag was also huge for a greene king pub.

Me and Husband came here last Friday night and had a great time. The atmosphere was great and the staff were so welcoming (to name John and Gabby, as they served us) We had a hot honey, crispy chicken burger each, and they were fresh and cooked to perfection, presented really well and we'll definitely be coming back for another! The chef that night was Lydia (we were told) so a great mention for her.

The staff were brilliant. Didn't have all the food we originally wanted but the food we had was great. No custard to go with the pudding is a crime but I'll get over it 😁. I will happily return when back on the area and would happily recommend the place.

On a Christmas do. Not sure what the price was but for my point of view. It would be overpriced. I had prawns I think there was 5 at best. Follow by turkey dinner. I did find a slither of turkey under all the vegetables. At best it was a carvery all in all. Disappointed.

Shocking awful experience will not be back

Popped in for lunch to Hartwood Hall as I've been before and didn't really have an opinion on the place but this time I was really disappointed with the food. The staff were polite but apart from when ordering there was no there interactions with them. I ordered the steak sandwich and I wasn't impressed, the steak clearly wasn't freshly cooked and was dry, it came with some beef dripping gravy but I must of misunderstood the description because I barely got a dripping of it.. barely enough to dip anything into. I paid extra for "loaded fries" with cheese and bacon... I'm sure I seen a slither of bacon in there somewhere... I'm sure of it. My partner had thesteak and ale pie but the crust was so tough it couldn't be eaten. My little one had pizza and it was so soft and soggy I couldn't even cut it without it turning into a sloppy mess. Overall I paid £40 for lunch and wasn't impressed, it wasn't particularly busy, just seemed like that's the standard of food. I've tried to be as honest as possible in this review and not overly critical but... I won't be returning.

Unfortunately I had checked on line and was anticipating my meal before I arrived, which then wasn't available. I reelected a mixed grill but though the majority was cooked perfectly, the piece of chicken was undercooked down the thicker side... to point of been raw in the middle. The staff were great and offered to replace the whole meal but it put me off... I will return again because everything else was great, including their delicious strawberry lemonade, hence higher marks...

Went for dinner with the mother before her hospital appointment, very good food, can't comment on the beer as I was driving and therefore, I was on cola. Good sized portions, well worth the money.

Nice decor and no wait to be seated. Staff are very approachable and attentive. Good interactions with all staff from bar and kitchen and food is fantastic. We shall return ☺️

The pub has modern decor and was clean and tidy. Car parking is good and staff are friendly. Hartwood Hall also accepts Blue Light Card. Nursery rhymes playing on arrival, waitress said she put them on to wind up her boss, which showed a lack of professionalism. Roast dinner was poor quality, the meat portions were small, potatoes tasted like deep fried frozen potatoes, veg tasted like it had been microwaved, and yorkshire pudding had a taste of old oil. Food for others in my party was reported as good (burger, katsu curry, range of starters). Drink prices are not included on the menu, although the overall bill was not too expensive. Doubt that I will return.

First time in the place, food was ok 👍 , atmosphere was ok, ladies toilets were in need of a freshen up as distinct waft when going in. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Big fan of this place and been a few times. Really lovely staff who make you feel welcome even when super busy. Menu is pub but always feels a little more superior. Will come again.

Tepid steak, mistakes over order, no apology, and the correct side dish arrived as we finished our main. To top it off the side dish was tasteless, though it was at least hot. I thought perhaps the side would have been removed from the bill, but I doubt anyone was aware, or cared.

Excellent and prompt service. Food was great. We both had an 8 ounce rump which wasn't bad at all. There was a small onion nest that was really tasty. However the meal could have been improved with some vegetables rather than a tiny bit of garnish and half a raw tomato. Chips were gorgeous but like other establishments there was just not enough chips at all. Probably half or less than what would be enough. Will visit again but I will have to order an additional portion of chips to suit my appetite.

Hartwood Hall is 'ok' if you are stuck for somewhere. We stayed on a Sunday evening and by 6pm all the Sunday roast menu was unavailable, along with a number of other side & main dishes. Tables in the pub area had plates and glasses left on them for well over an hour and it was not busy. No issues with the food we ordered, and it arrived quickly. The room was boiling hot even though the radiator was off, bed rock hard and uncomfy, shower woeful dribble but all fairly clean. TV remote very dirty/dusty between the buttons so needed a wet-wipe. Breakfast was ok, apart from drinks glasses being dirty and stuck face down to a small wooded tray; plus the cleaner was hoovering throughout the pub as the hotel guests ate breakfast. Should be done before or after breakfast. Pub staff are all friendly and helpful.

Food terrible burger bun was like rubber and meal was just warm at best, ordered sweets but didn't get them. No one is interested won't be going again.

Young servers very slow....unconfident talking to customers....food took ages to arrive. It was cooked as good as could have been but such low quality food used chicken sinue and gristle ....squid had anemia...they made no effort......servers totally indiffrent must of been couldnt give a shit wednesday.....i'll never go again was rancid.....avoid.

Went there for the first time last night with my boyfriend and it was lovely. The atmosphere was just what I like when I go out for a meal, quiet, relaxing. Service was good very friendly staff. Food was amazing, we did the 2 mains and drinks for £20 and shared a dessert. Both had burgers mine being the vegetarian/vegan one and his being the beef one. Both were so good. For dessert we had the all your favourite fondue, was nice and loved the blondies. Only negative comment would be that you don't do a blondie as a dessert on its own. Definetly be going again.

Booked for my wife's birthday. Reserved a table for two & advised them of the birthday & that a 'little treat might be nice. Last time I did this was 2 yrs ago at the Fieldfare. No recognition of my wife's birthday then & a steak meal that resembled shoe leather was not enjoyed. Complained & received a voucher for 30% off our next meal. Waited two years to use it & guess what nothing had changed!. Hartwood Hall was chosen this time due to the recent referb. Nice & airy (although it felt a little cold & lacked a 'cosy feel). Staff were very polite & steak was beyond words as for the chargrilled veggies ( 2 small pepper strips, 3 cherry toms on the vine, 2 small pieces of red onion & a half a garlic bulb they were not very good (the garlic was not even cooked & therefore useless). I felt they were lost on the plate & an afterthought (petit pois, mushrooms, onion rings & grilled toms would be a lot nicer & compliment the meat better). That said Staff were attentive & gave my wife a little treat & wished her happy birthday.👍Would I go back? I definitely would go again as the steak was truly delicious...however I felt that re the meal & the venue there was something missing...suspect it may have been the accompaniments & the fact that this is a large building it felt too big as this gave the impression of sparce decor.

We stayed overnight. Booking in was simple. The accommodation is separate from the pub, the room was clean and well presented. The pub/restaurant is closed well managed the food is good and the service excellent. The only thing that stopped me giving 5 stars was the traffic noise - the accommodation is next to a busy road and noise from the traffic disturbed my sleep.

Went on a Sunday afternoon with family. Chose to have a trio of roast. I was disappointed that you had to order cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets as a side. The honeycomb and toffee cheese cake was disappointment. I my opinion it was like they had bought a basic cheesecake and put a bit of crushed crunchy on top with toffee sauce

Nice gaff, room was ok. To say it right next to a main busy road, the windows cancel 99% of the noise out. Staff were very friendly, and breakfast was lovely.

Live locally so walked up for a swifty. When we arrived, the young lady working the bar was clearly busy with drinks orders for the restaurant, however didn't even acknowledge our presence at the bar & completely ignored us (eye contact, a smile, a word of explanation - all of these would suffice & none was forthcoming). Disappointingly, even though the bar very clearly displayed the Casque marque certificate for the provision of quality cask ales, along with a stand of business cards for the same (Greene king is one of the founding breweries for the Casque Marque certification), none of the four beer engines was in operation & not a single cask ale was available. In addition, signs showed coffee was also not available (not that we wanted coffee, but in a big food pub surely a necessity?) Overall a very disappointing visit - a pint of keg IPA & a glass of very mediocre red house wine over-priced at £10.89 & we won't be back in a hurry. Sorry. We wanted it to be better!

Called in when passing. It was Sat lunchtime and pretty quiet ( not complaining). The service was a bit slow but, oh my, the food was delicious. It was so tasty (steak ciabatta) and sticky toffee and bourbon pudding ( I've wasted 500 calories on a lot less). Absolutely wonderful

Despite arriving at a time when the pub wasn't busy, it took 20+ minutes for anyone to take our order. The food came 50 minutes later, it was cold and just ok taste-wise. The waiters were lovely, however.

Lovely pub and restaurant, arrived 8pm on a Friday evening with no reservation but we were greeted warmly and quickly. Service was perfect. Calm pub where you can hear each other. We only had burgers and beers all were good - only minor criticism was the burnt ends burger topping wasn't burnt enough for us but we were informed this is due to previous comments that they were too burnt for others. Can't please all palates at all times but we would definitely come again. Thank you!

Sunday 30th June booked table for myself and eldest daughter Probably the worst meal.weve had in last 5 Years Food quality was poor my daughters Sunday roast beef was cold carrots and veg were atrocious. Had stuffing on with beef Felt like old food warmed up Complained about carrots replaced with plate full similar Meal abandoned day ruined Greene King to avoid Only good thing was waiter who was excellent Shame Meal let place down

Not been here for a long time, food was nice I had the mixed grill the only thing I wasn't keen on was the sausage but everything was fine.

Was pleasantly surprised much nicer than my last visit a few years ago and a good menu choice. Takes blue light discount as well so an added bonus!

This was my 1st visit to this pub restaurant even tho I've live nearby for 5yrs. I was very impressed with the interior decor and furnishings . The staff were friendly and gave us good service for my husbands birthday. The food was presented nicely and tasted excellent. The only negative was they had ran out of T-bone steaks which was what my hubby & son in law was wanting. But they enjoyed their ribeye & fillet steaks instead. My chicken skewer was tasty & the meat was so tender & moist. We had nachos to start with which were morish too. The price wasn't too expensive either . We definitely will be returning soon.

Description of food to what you get is a bit out of order, for instance pan fried mushrooms, got mushrooms that where broiled not seen a frying pan, also tail on king prawns and what we got was overcooked no tail king prawn from Iceland it could have bounced itself up the road to get here, the Roast butternut Squash was not cooked the roasted new potatoes well ok they where cooked as in boiled then put on a hot grill but defo not roasted Staff are good at hiding or in my opinion there just understaffed the Steak I had was cooked perfectly, can't complain on that overall good but understaffed and not what the menu states 4 out of 10

The staff were great, as attentive as they could be, it was rather busy and it seemed understaffed, we were there at 6.30pm. The food we had (steak n ale pie mash and peas) was nice, the pie is a good size, the bar and dining areas were nice and clean but the toilets were questionable, they were awful, not just happened to be bad the day we visited, they're obviously neglected and have been for a while, this seriously needs addressing.

Food was great, service attentive, pleasant surroundings. Plenty of parking.

We called into this greeneking pub before going to the Chorley game. At 5pm it was ticking over. The team were friendly and welcoming. The food was good and enjoyable. Definitely worth a return visit when we are in the area again.

This is such a nice and friendly place to visit. The staff are welcoming, the food is delicious. Ample car parking is available free of charge. Would certainly recommend a visit.

We took our granddaughters out for dinner to help celebrate our 52nd wedding anniversary. We all had a lovely time.
