Great House Hotel in Bridgend

The 6 of us had an absolutely amazing Taster Menu experience last night prepared by Matt, his wife and staff. Really, really tasty and superb quality food. Top class. A real delight. Thank you.

I visited the restaurant today for a Christmas lunch. Lovely surroundings beautifully decorated for Christmas. When we ordered one of our party is allergic to garlic, I should have phoned to tell them this but did not get around to it. However when we all ordered Turkey we were told there was garlic in everything, I asked please could they make something without garlic. This was not possible because all the food is pre ordered in and just warmed up. This did not seem to sit well for such a lovely restaurant. They managed to bring a plate with Turkey greens and little else. I must say, the Turkey was very tough, Brussels sprouts too hard to cut, and the only carrot was fine. Come on you can do better than that. It did seem to me like a conveyor belt of food ready prepared in the kitchen and put on a plate, surely you don’t need a chief to do this, is this another way of cutting costs, I guess so, Maybe stick to deserts and coffee they were fine.

A wonderful meal, for a very reasonable cost. The festive set menu. Really enjoyed, especially the lobster toast.

A very nice place to visit and stay. One room can be used for a small conference room, Very well preserved building dating back to the 1500's. Just mind your head. I visited here as I will be photographing a wedding soon. Very friendly staff

Lovely for afternoon tea with friends

This place came highly recommended and it didn't disappoint! The food was absolutely amazing and the attention to detail was second to none. The staff were attentive, warm and welcoming. My partner and myself had starters, mains, side dishes, desserts and drinks and the bill only came to £83! I have paid more than d9uble elsewhere for lesser quality food and service. I would highly recommend this place. I live in West Yorkshire, but will be making a regular(ish) trip to sample the delights on offer and I will be working my way through the whole menu. It was a delight.

Been here for several weddings - what a gem of a venue! The food is brilliant and the staff are so attentive. The rooms are really lovely and well modernised without loosing their charm. Just watch your head on the upstairs corridors if you're tall!

Went to a wedding, great service lovely rooms outdoor area.

It’s a little bit old and crusty. Lovely staff at check in and when I needed a fan and ironing board they brought it up promptly. Sadly that’s where it went down hill. Rooms were stuffy, in need of modernisation and with poor fixtures and fittings. Lumpy thin mattress, carpets in both the room and communal areas covered in stains. The en-suite was pretty old and the shower head wouldn’t stay in its holder so I had to hold it to shower. Breakfast as poor. There were no staff in the breakfast room so I helped myself to cereal. Around 10 mins later a lady arrived and told me off for sitting at the wrong table!! Apparently my table (on one side of the breakfast room) was set only for the evening dinner and it was a major inconvenience to remove a glass and replace with a tea cup. I ordered eggs Benedict and they were just okay. Overall I wouldn’t stay again.

We had a birthday dinner here it was so nice, the food was delicious, the decor was relaxing and sophisticated. The staff were really friendly and helpful. It was overall a lovely experience in a beautiful historical building thank you. We didn't stay in ,

We had our wedding reception here recently and we are so happy with how it went. It’s the perfect venue for an intimate or smaller wedding, the food was delicious, staff all lovely and all organised very well. Definitely recommend ♥️

Our room was a real let down. It's getting a little tired now. The team were excellent and were lovely. Time for a refresh.

This is a lovely place, both inside and out, with it places to stay overnight also, our two visits were for Sunday dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves both times, the food especially was lovely with calm, friendly and efficient service, and does have a car park. It’s about a hundred times better than a Toby, we’ll definitely go back.
