Delicious hot and fresh food with a quick turnaround. I travel from west Belfast for the chips and steakettes Nom nom nom.!!

Just got chips from here and they were rough. Over cooked yet lukewarm at the same time.

As with most places it depends on who you get making food,and what mood they are in.grim staff...bad food.pleasent staff,usually good food.

Absolutely disgusting was really hungry after a busy day looking forward to a nice meal had to throw it in the bin waste of 15 pounds not looking forward to the morning definitely wont be back

Just been in tonight Friday got chicken breast and chips. Ask for chicken well done. It's not, I live close by so didn't have to travel far. Chicken just warm NOT HOT. Chips ok and warmish but not hot. Very disappointed. Curry sauce nice though.

Variety box has climbed 30% in price over the last year or two, and has also shrunk in size. Barely any fish in the batter this time, just a slither in the middle, a sausage, a bit of chicken and barely a couple of chips Poor value for money for what you used to get. Edit, prices have raised again drastically since this and portions have decreased. They've also a big sign asking for payment to be cash likely to avoid tax. Just greed at this stage.

Trevor needs to taste his food and if he has and thinks it's acceptable he's deluded !! Worst chippy by far !!

This place used to be good in fact it was great When I visit here the standards have gone down The chips where disgusting and the fish was horrible Also not pleasing to the eye no presentation McDonald’s on the other hand is only round the corner always give 100% But I do prefer fish and chips on Friday Have traveled all over Uk eating this on Fridays But when I get pawned of with this I know not to come again Fryers delight on theobalds road the best in Uk

Called past on a recommendation I was given many years ago. It was great then and stunning today. The pastie was just as it should be crunchy and delicious the chips well cooked, dry and flavoursome. I'd recommend you try the place!

Worst fish and chips we ve had in years. The fish was just a mush and the chips would have broken your teeth they were so hard. All went in the bin. Will not be back.

iv eaten here quite often and was good but tonight was left disapointed underdonr fish pure raw batter variety box fish and chicken underdone raw normly the man is frying has really put mr off if your going to have a fryer on you need to make sure they know what tgere doing

Totally gutted. Ordered Christmas Chip expecting (same as everywhere else does it) Turkey or chicken, Ham, stuffing, chips and gravy. But apparently Christmas chip is few cut up sausages, chips, stuffing, gravy and a tub of Cranberry sauce! Like what is the cranberry sauce for if no chicken or ham. Very disappointed, will not be back.

Unbelievably bad. Can’t believe that one of the best chippys in Belfast had sunk to this. Uncooked chips , rubbish burger. After 40 years custom we won’t be back

What is going on at the Golden Chip? The food was awful last night. Soggy chips & the batter on the fish was so thick and undercooked. It was wet! Our take out was taken out to the bin! We will not be back. Sorry & disappointed.

Best fish near Belfast, a strong opponent for places like the Bethany I prefer the fish here

What has happened to the Golden Chip? They used to make the best chips in Belfast. My chips were a soggy greasy mush, put them in the oven to try and crisp them up a bit but they ended up in the bin. So disappointed.

Fish and chips 🍟 done the way they are supposed to be perfect, great quality and friendly staff bit of a queue but understandably so, the food speaks itself the only let down, are the miniscule portions of gravy or whatever you need for your takeaway, bummer.

Every time we have got anything from the Golden Chip it has been good. I did read a few of the bad reviews, so not sure what happened there. Back again in 2023 - still good food!!!

The fish portions were tiny and I got told that's the way they come from the fishmongers. I drove to ballynahinch and got a fish five times bigger for three quid less.

Really good quality chip shop. Great selection of options to choose from. Staff are pleasant and helpful.

I frequented this establishment often when I lived nearby. Great fried food of all kinds. Service is always prompt and pleasant. Chips are exceptional. I had the scampi supper for the first time last week on a whim and I wasn't disappointed. It has won awards for a good reason.

Just had one of the worst meals I’ve ever had from here. 19 pound for 2 meals and the batter on the fish and chicken was barely cooked and took up about 50% of the size of each strip. I was the only person there too so you would expect everything to be cooked well to order. Won’t be back

Don't know what has happened to The Golden Chip but just had our last visit. Chips were more like scallops, very dry, tasteless and all stuck together. Fish was cooked within an inch of incerneration. Very disappointing

Had a chicken burger bap crumbled apart need to change bap suppliers to much batter on chicken. Once apon a time best chicken burgers in town. Disappointed.

Stay away on a Saturday night..the fish was nice but wasn't worth the hassle The big girl with the big attitude served my wife and me..After driving 20 minutes ther I was so disappointed at such a nice chippy to have someone like that to represent the golden chippy..sad to say I won't be back

Been eating out of the golden chip on and off for forty years and had the worst chips served to me last night. Burnt chips. Very disappointing as I know the products are normally very good. Some additional staff training I believe.

Just had Pastie supper. Out of the world fresh made chips lovely pastie well worth a look and try.

First class every time. Fish chips & golden batter every time. Best chippy for miles around. Excellent value to boot. Highly recommended !

Just got home with my order. Chips where undercooked and the batter on the fish soggy. Asked for it well done. This was the second time going after giving it the benefit of the doubt.

I was extremely disappointed, I got pastie and chips. The chips were all bad and the pastie was was just horrible. I was really surprised as I used to get from here all the time and it was lovely but the food has changed for the worst. I definitely wouldn't be back.

Another visit to the fabulous Golden Chip Dundonald, although I live a fair bit away the gorgeous food here is well worth the journey, the fish never ever fails to impress and the pasties are simply delicious Trevor and his hard working team deserve 10 stars for the outstanding quality of food and great friendly service, the best chippy about, and we'll always be back! I have better home frozen chips sorry it's kinda gone down hill. Heard a few people say the same thing. Saying it's teen-agers running the place lol

Getting peeved off with the patchy quality of the food in this establishment, it's either undercooked or burnt within an inch of its life, just got a portion of "scampi" first off it's miniscule and was so overcooked the scampi was shriveled up inside a cocoon of impenetrable batter.

Hadn't been to the Golden chip in yonks, loved the foot long hot dogs, and took a notion for one tonight. Unfortunately for me they stopped doing them, so I opted for a pastie bap instead, cheese, onions, and a wee drop of brown on her. And a portion of jocky whips also I may add. Dear me, I'd have got more taste from the bag it came in, the bap was as dry as an Arabs heel, cold as ice, and I honestly thought it was stale, it crumbled when I took a bite, the cheese was just bucked on, not melted and it was just a mess. The chips weren't much better, soggy, tasteless and mostly burnt crispy bits, never have I been so disappointed with an established as I was this evening, it made me wonder had it changed hands, but it hasn't. Maybe that the problem, I'll not be in a hurry back, shocking to say the least. Read the reviews guys, there is an obvious issue with things.

I had to give this one star because I couldn’t give zero. Staff are unable to tell the difference between chicken and fish. Ordered a portion of chicken chunks and got the fish chunks instead. How incompetent!! When I phoned to complain the male who answered the phone was so rude and hung up. I think a quick course in customer service would help. Recommend to eat somewhere else.

Chips Soggy and tasteless but great portion size, big chicken strips but also tasteless and the tiniest tub of gravy.

I don't really post negative reviews, but guys come on Golden Chip ? should have been called soggy chip. A whopping portion, of soggy chips with my crispy and excellent chicken strips. Cut the amount in half and make them crispy, I had them on your excellent porch so where not in the box more than 45 seconds.

Incredible. Just ordered and asked the price and was told don't know. I am nowhere near the till and sighed. No offer to go and check. Zero customer service. Hopefully the food will be better.

Great fish and chip shop in Dundonald. Only disappointment is that it doesn't do a delivery service. Tis the only place to get a tasty fish supper nearby.

Sorry to say, Not as good as it used to be! Lovely staff, disaponted with the fish and chips last time, have to go to Newtownards now for my fish and chips. Will try it again in 6 months to see if it's improved. In the meantime make my own.

Usually good but served soggy lukewarm cod but equally lukewarm staff tonight.

Food was delicious! But the service. The girl basically threw the food at me. Not a regular there, maybe it's the way she works. Don't know. Also I might have been overcharged. Different price on the website, maybe it just has not been updated. My perfect day has been ruined in seconds. 😂

I was really disappointed in the Golden Chip. My chips were like mashed potato and I didn't like the flavour. My chicken burger batter was very thick and totally raw inside, like a mushy paste. I'm sad to say I won't be back as I remember they used to be the best chippy about for years.

Just amazing beat chips in belfast

Only negative is the chips could do with a double fry as they are usually very pale and a tad soggy. Much prefer soft and fluffy on the inside but crispy on the outside, aside from that everything else top notch 👌

Realmente me encantaba este lugar, gritaba desde los tejados sobre él. Tuve que escribir esta reseña ya que las dos últimas veces que he estado fue horrible. Les di el beneficio de la duda. Parece que tienen personal nuevo, solía ser uno que estuvo allí años. Esta visita pagué extra por queso sin queso. Las patatas fritas estaban crudas y empapadas al mismo tiempo. Fueron confundidos con aceite. thwy estaban en comestibles. Esta vez no volveré, el lugar se ha ido a los boxes. El personal es impredecible. Muy rudo.

Very poor quality chips on my last visit. I had to throw them out. Not cooked even once never mind a second time.

Ate in it once, won't be back. Food was cold in the middle, not properly cooked.

Used to love this chippy but the food is just soggy an very greasy. Delivery takes a long time an staff can be rude at times. Will be going else where from now on

Dont know who she is called but the older looking woman with the dark hair whos always at the till is very careless because when we always order something out of there she aways forgets to put something in to the bag but will happily charge us the full amount for the food she didn't even give us, it happens every single time we get food out of there. She needs fired from the job completely and has a bad attitude towards us and other people. We have been customers for about 7 years. But now we have gotten sick of it and wont be back ever again. Its bad that we have to check that all of our food is in the bag before we get home.

Llamé aquí anoche y aunque era cerca de la hora en que cierran (bastante seguro de que solía ser 10) los dos empleados detrás del mostrador estaban más que felices de cocinarme algo de comida. Fue atendido por una encantadora chica de cabello oscuro que charló y fue muy educada y un hombre que fue muy amable e incluso me habló de algunas opciones sobre qué tener. La comida era deliciosa y muy bien preparada y sin duda volveremos!
