Ordered a Pizza Pescatore. It was proper home-made pizza. Excellent dough. Delicious. The menu has a range of pizzas with a good selection of toppings.

Gino's serves up the best of the best in pizza in a small and quirky space. If you want an homogeneous, comfortably bland experience with plastic 'pizza' go somewhere else. This, from someone who isn't a fan of pizza. And take cash with your wine. No cards, which is an added bonus.

Gino's restaurant is quite an experience to say the least. The first thing you'll notice upon entering is the wiff of dog and a general lack of hygiene. The place is in dire need of renovation, both inside and out, with peeling paint and cobwebs in the corners. There are no credit card machines, and cash is the only payment method accepted. In today's day and age, that's a major inconvenience. But what really sets this restaurant apart from others is the fact that there's no alcohol served whatsoever. No wine, no beer, nothing. How can anyone enjoy Italian food without a nice glass of Chianti or a cold beer? It's no wonder that locals avoid Gino's like the plague. In fact, many of them don't even believe that the restaurant exists. And who can blame them? With such a lackluster appearance, and the fact that the owner seems to treat the place as more of a hobby than a business, it's hard to take this place seriously. The food itself is nothing to write home about either, with lackluster flavor and questionable ingredients. Overall, I would recommend staying far away from Gino's, and finding a proper Italian restaurant that knows how to run a business and maintain proper standards of cleanliness and service. 🏃🏃♂️🏃♀️...............🍕🍝

Although they are only offering pizzas at the moment and pre-ordered for take- away only, they are doing it so well. Enjoyed the meat Calzone and a Gino pizza topping followed by Tiramisu - yes take-away Tiramisu to finish off! Well done and thank you, I hope you continue to be supported by the locals and holidaymakers as you deserve it. Suggest you add a photo of your current menu to this listing to enhance sales.

We have been to Gino’s twice and are planning to become regulars. We went back for the excellent pizzas, but can now also thoroughly recommend varied antipasti and best tiramisu outside Italy. This is a small restaurant, where the lovely proprietor greets, cooks and deals with everything, so go with a relaxed approach, sit back and prepare to enjoy yourself. You can bring your own wine etc. Best to book, cos, as previously mentioned, this is a small place, serving the best pizza - thin crust and ingredients perfectly balanced, including great vegan pizza, you’re likely to find....there is also home made vegan ice cream. Thanks for a great meal and thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Quirky setting and excellent quality food. Ignore the long wait comments.. it is cooked fresh to you order, it is not a nasty fast food place. Bring yourself a nice Italian red and sit and chat whilst your food is prepared. Could not daily the food and the easy hospitality. Felt like I was sat home . Cosy . Going back today!

Gino's (named for the owner's erstwhile cat) is only a small eatery and service is not rushed, as others have already mentioned, but it is the only place in Wirksworth where we could find vegan food advertised on the menu (as opposed to it being something that can be rustled up on request). It was definitely worth the wait as both the vegan pizzas were absolutely delicious, as was the garlic bread with tapenade. Recommended for the food, as long as you're not in a hurry.

We’d been here for a meal before and so we were expecting a good evening. Not only were we squashed in a corner but it was cold and draughty. It took ages for our order to be taken and although we’d asked for a starter for 4, what came I could have eaten on my own. When it eventually came the main meal was lovely but I’m not sure I’ll be visiting again.

Ok, so if you want silver service 'waiting on', starched white napkins, extensive menu and pretentious gumf then this may not suit your desires. If you like a small, relaxed and very friendly place, which in actual fact is a bit like going into someones dining room, with an aga at one end and a wood burner at the other, with really tasty food ..... then you may like it. We loved it, and would go back. Scrumptous pizzas, the very thin type which were undoubtedly the best pizzas north of Palermo, were as far removed from the 'cheeses on toast' pizzas you get in so many of the take away places. And hec! the aubergine pasta was better than you get in Pisa. As for the Tiramisu. It WAS the real thing. NO! It was better than that!! Don't go if you are in a rush, it's not slow, but it is relaxed. Just be prepaerd to talk with who ever you go with!!It was all delicious, friendly and peaceful. And you get cloth napkins, just not white starched! I'd go again. BTW its BYO

The food is freshly cooked and has lots of flavour, the restaurant doesn't take cards so be prepared to have cash on you. There was only 1 person working when we went but she seemed lovely. They don't serve alcohol but you are more than welcome to take your own along. Only downfall was that you are charged £1 for glass of water.

We had dinner here as we tend to prefer quirky places over big restaurants, and the other reviews made us curious. Well, you can either love or hate this place, and we loved it. A very limited choice of very good Italian food, prepared freshly on order. The service (or rather lack of it) and Bohemian state of the tiny dining room is certainly not for people that need flattering waiters and posh ambience, but if you are willing to accept the place as it is you certainly won't regret it. Bring your own alcoholic drinks and bread-rolls, lean back and enjoy a unique experience.

Loved Melanie the owner. She works very hard. Food was fab as was the atmosphere. I took my 8 year old daughter and she loved the food too. Both of us only eat good home cooked food so if you want a 2 for 1 offer in a pub that comes out of a packet its not for you. It is quirky in a very English Peak District way. First of all I want to say that I can't comment on the pizzas which may well be tasty. I went here with my husband on the spur of the moment as we fancied pizza. When we got here we thought we'd come to the wrong place as it doesn't look like a proper business. We looked through the windows into the interior to see a grubby, tatty looking place with an untidy settee with bits and bobs on, horrible decor and hardly anyone in. We didn't go in then either. I don't think I've ever seen such an unloved restaurant and I eat out once or twice a week. I'm only judging this on the look of the place, not the food, but eating is an aesthetic experience and who wants to eat in somewhere so horrible?

Being a large group we hadn't expected all our food to arrive exactly at the same time. But we thought it would all arrive in relatively a similar time (eg. 10 mins). Especially as we pre-ordered and were the only ones in the restaurant. 1-2 mains were coming out with 15 minute gaps between another 1-2 mains. It was clear there must only be room to cook 2 pizzas at one time. Members of the group had to leave whilst others hadn't even eaten. As we had to wait so long no one could be bothered to have a dessert! When the food did arrive it was quite nice, but by this time everyone was already annoyed. I wouldn't bother going here if your a group of 4 or more. Less than 4 you would probably be alright.

We visited last Wednesday night as a party of 6. The reviews were very mixed. 5 out of 6 loved the food, 3 out of 6 said they wouldn't eat there had they visited the toilets first! Shabby without the chic, which I found quite charming, but it was cold and souless. The owner/chef/waitress was, as other reviewers have stated "quirky" to say the least, but it was very much of a take it or leave it attitude. On the plus side, I personally thought the food was excellent, others complained about the wait between courses and the differing times our food arrived - surely the whole point of eating out is that at least the mains appear at the same time and you therefore eat together. May give it another try as it is only 15 minutes drive from where we live, 3 of us wouldn't!

We had been recommended this place from some people we were staying with in the village. We were told that the owner was a bit "eccentric " and that she does all the orders and cooking so there could be a bit of a wait. We were the first reservation to arrive so service was prompt and friendly. The room was a bit on the chilly side but nothing a jacket couldn't help with! We found the living room atmosphere really comfortable and cozy. We both had a pasta and shared a pizza. While I found the pizza just okay, I LOVED my pasta with Parma ham, mushrooms, peas and a tomato and cream sauce. The couple who introduced us to the place also showed up for dinner allowed us for a fun evening overall! It wasn't the cleanest or most well-run restaurant but it was welcoming and felt like you were being served at someone's house rather than a stuffy restaurant.

Yes, the owner is a little quirky, and she runs the place all on her own (waitress, cook, server, etc). But, the pizzas were excellent, the place quirky yet fun. My daughter suggested Gino's as they can provide vegan pizzas. We had not booked, and perhaps that is where we went wrong. My wife went to the front door at 6.55pm and asked if they had a table. She was told to come back in 10 minutes. We managed to park nearby, but in fact the closed sign was on the door until 7.25, when we went in.We were given menus, and while we looked at these the waitress/chef/owner (Melanie?) set out cutlery, glasses and napkins for four on one other table. All the other tables were left bare. We weren't offered napkins. We ordered drinks and 4 pizzas. After about 10 minutes 2 cans of lemonade appeared. 5 minutes later I got a can of fair trade cola. Another 5 minutes passed before my wife was given a glass of sparkling water. She didn't get the bottle so we just have to assume it was in fact San Pellegrino.2 pizzas arrived in fairly quick succession. Then there was quite a long wait before the other 2 pizzas arrived.Meanwhile, 2 people came in off the street. The owner called out for them to wait, but when after a good 5 minutes she had not appeared, they left. Then the 4 expected diners arrived. Some of them obviously knew the owner, and were on friendly terms with her.We would have had dessert, but as the service had so far been erratic, we wondered how the owner would cope now there were another 4 people in the restaurant. So we paid the bill and left.I can't see how one person can successfully run a restaurant on their own.And the pizzas? They really were rather nice. But I'm not sure I would risk going a second time.

Dirty, we walked into find a big old dirty sofa which was used as a dog bed complete with a smelly dog laying in the middle of it _ our table was next to it. The waitress was rude, we sat for 20mins before someone came to offer us drinks, the place does not serve alcohol and we were not told this on the phone. The waitress seemed to enjoy telling me that they were out of most of apple juice too! The napkins were the reusbale type, some tables were covered in junk as if someone was half way through a repair job they had forgotten. The waitress clothes were dirty stained and not professional. They only had 3 deserts on the menu but only had one in stock. The menu was sticky. The pizza was lovely as was the food, and it is a real shame to see what could be a nice place be let down like this.

After travelling 25 minutes to get my daughter a waffle, I dropped her outside with plenty of time before closing time, I parked across the road near the food cabin so could see her, two in front both served, she waited in the queue for 9 minutes just to be turned away at 4 minutes past 7! Rude and the last time I’ll be spending money there. Since the new owners have taken over it’s not the same, how hard would it have been to use some emotional intelligence and shut the door and serve the people in the queue from before your shutting time.
