Make sure you search this one out, off the beaten track as such and not very big signage. I am so happy we carried on, once you turn off. Please try this it is definitely not one to miss. Really warm, professional and friendly welcome, wonderful smiles from all the staff. Great choice of menu, and catered for my husband gluten free food which he couldn’t fault. Omg I tried the combination of a cup of soup and roll. The Sweet Potato, coconut and coriander soup was to die for never tasted soup that wonderful they need to sell that as a takeaway, fridge buy. The Ham, apple and relish (minus the mature cheese) was huge for me, but it was really tasty and fresh. I ordered a hot chocolate and coffee which arrived before food, omg it was definitely a “Hot” chocolate which I can honestly say no one serves hot like that, I eaten all my meal and it was still hot, that’s what I call perfection. Highly recommend this cafe

In our never ending search for the best cheese scone we had lunch here today. A lovely bowl of winter vegetable soup (nice and chunky, flavoursome too) with a brown (warm) roll, followed by an A* cheese scone. Super cheesy, definitely a 10 out of 10 (and we award very few of those!!). Lovely service, nicely attentive without being in your face. Saw some of the specials being served - looked amazing but we are being very strong about lunch and sticking to the lighter options . . . and cheese scones!

Stopped off here for a coffee and a scone, we were made welcome until we gave our order. Obviously there's more profit on lunches than coffee's as we were advised we only had 15mins to have our coffee and scone as the table was needed. We were at our table for a full 20 mins and left a dozen empty table behind. Obviously not as busy as expected. On average 2 x Coffee's and scone is £13, they charged £15.50!! Our first visit here and we were made to feel so welcome. The gentleman who sat us down and took our order was super friendly, without being over the top. We were so pleased that our dog could join us, and we completely agreed with the two doggy rules ‘ lead on, stay on the floor’. The breakfast food we had was delicious and the tea for two plentiful. We would highly recommend a visit here. The farm shop was well stocked so we also stocked up with some lunch time treats.

This cafe is a must. Lovely fresh food, attentive friendly staff, clean & fresh surroundings with separate cake stand to browse with a good variety. Farm shop adjoining with lots of lovely things to browse including cards and gifts and again very friendly staff. The food was yummy, good sized portions, fresh produce, our meals were quick to arrive, we are all vegeterian. Good choices for us veggys, a few more vegan choices to the menu would be ideal. Reasonable prices and doggy friendly. Will definetly be coming back.

My first visit and I was delighted! The cafe looks a bit unassuming from the outside, but step inside, you are greeted with a delightful shop, with lots of interesting foodie items - and tucked into the corner, the cafe. The menu is very generous with many options to choose from. I opted for the Quiche of the Day, a roasted vegetable quiche with goats cheese. It came with coleslaw and a lovely salad, chutney, and it was just very very good! We then had a salted caramel brownie with coffee - the coffee was top notch, and the brownie was yummy. I would recommend this place highly. I plan to come back, and hope it will be just as memorable next time!

Could not resist the jars of Cherries in Kirsch - gorgeous over ice cream. High quality gift items, kitchenware etc.. No tat! Added to that the friendliness and charm of the staff. Can see this being a regular stop for lunch or coffee and cake which by the way were a great selection. I would say the best cafe so far since moving to North Berwick 3 years ago and we have tried so many locally.

Although there were very few tables occupied, they had run out of scones. The room - part shop, part cafe - had several chiller cabinets in it, all of which seemed to be making a noise with the overall effect being of sitting in a noisy environment: not relaxing at all.Service was OK and the baking we chose was fine. It's pretty tucked away it must be said, but Fenton Barns Farm Shop and Cafe is a nice place to visit if you're in the area. Two of us enjoyed a really good bowl of haggis and sausage stovies, which was just what was required on a dull and murky Scottish summer's day. The shop itself seemed very light on several things I'd expect to find - no sausages, no sourdough bread, no bacon, no smoked mackerel. Maybe they need to look at their stock levels? All in all a nice place to spend half and hour, even though it is not the cheapest option.

Came here as recommended in a guide book. Would not recommend it to anyone. £9.50 for the lunch special - 2 small “artisan” sausages, baked beans and one thin slice of stale bread. I also ordered the large mineral water and received a normal 330ml bottle - I queried this and was told that was the large. This was charged at £4!The stovies were tasty but a small portion for a big price. The bill of over 22£ for 2 small mains and two drinks nearly gave me indigestion.

As regulars here, we felt it had seriously gone downhill today. I had the smoked salmon and cream cheese on a bagel. Initially I thought the bagel was meant to be crisp, but it soon became obvious that it was actually stale and I couldn't eat it all. We were charged £4.40 for a pot of tea that just barely managed to fill 2 cups. I asked a passing waitress for a pot of hot water so we could have a second cup of tea. It never arrived. I complained about all this when the waiter came to clear the plates and he just shrugged his shoulders and made a face, saying he would bring the water. I said forget it as we were ready to leave. As we got up to leave, the waiter brought the water. I told him I said to forget it. He shrugged his shoulders again and walked away leaving the water on the table. This level of service is shocking nowadays, and we will seriously avoid this place now for a long time - there are plenty more to choose from. Also I never order a cake or traybake here as they are displayed uncovered on plates close to where people queue up to pay, and I've often seen flies land and walk all over them.

Arrived for an early lunch - but breakfast stops at 11:30, and lunch starts only at 12:00 - so there is a 30 minute "nothing except cake" period, which (as we watched the cooks in the kitchen standing chatting) seemed like a good way to lose money. We heard a few people ask for food only to be told it nothing was available, and they then left. Its the first cafe/restaurant I've known have a "no food" time like that.

We went to the cafe for Saturday lunch out. Gulped a bit when we saw the prices on the menu but as the cafe was so busy we assumed the prices reflected the meals & it would be worth paying for. Not so. The quality of the food is good, no doubt about that, apart from the coffee, but what you get for your money is so very disappointing. I had the farmhouse platter which had a reasonable size salad & tub of chutney but only a few thin slices of apple, a Dairylea-size piece of cheddar & a small amount of ham. Accompanied by 2 oatcakes & a warm roll with 2 pats of butter right next to it & so half-melted. Nearly £9 for that. Large size capacchino was large size price but would be regular at most cafes &was a bit on the weak side. All in all very tasty but at extremely inflated prices. Perhaps we should have mentioned it but we British find that so hard to do so we'll just vote with our feet & not go back again.

We ordered from specials board but definitely said mushrooms. Other food arrived ...ours was just coming. Chilli arrived......no sorry not our order. Couldn't I just eat it???? Well no not really since I don't eat meat. I then ordered my familiar roast roots and blue cheese salad. When it did arrive it bore little resemblance to what I had eaten in the past. There were 3 tiny pieces of blue cheese and beetroot so hard I could not eat it. The coffee was served cold twice. The cakes came about ten minutes later. The cheese scone was so tough my friend could not cut through with her knife. The owner apologised and offered us coffee and cake titbits. She also argued with me about what was in my salad.Full bill. No thank you not again.

Have been stopping here for a bite to eat for many years and this is the first review I have done which gives negative feedback. Here for lunch and the place was far from busy. Three members of staff in evidence yet we sat waiting for nearly 20 minutes without acknowledgment from any of them. Two staff seemed to be wandering around aimlessly backward and forwards clearing a few tables and re-arranging the items on those tables. We really would not have minded waiting if only someone had said 'Hello, be with you shortly'. Nothing was forthcoming so I stepped up to the till and explained that we had been waiting for a while, could we please order? The member of staff apologized saying she thought she had taken our order! We gave our order, checking first that what we had chosen was still available as it was early afternoon. She assured us that - yes - it was. Great.I meandered around the shop while waiting and the waitress came over to explain that - "no, the quiche I chose was no longer available but there was another.' She again apologized for this. I said that would be fine, thanking her.Another considerable wait, followed by someone else coming to lay our table. At last, our food arrived - my quiche was very disappointing - goat's cheese and vegetable - very bland indeed It was also served incredibly hot (possible post-microwave) leaving the pastry soft and floppy. The side salad and chutney were as good as ever. The water we had asked for had to be requested again. The cafe were courteous enough not to charge me for this meal.

Second time here while visiting East Lothian and again we were impressed. They are so good because they keep things fresh and simple - we both had the tart the day (it was vegetarian which was a bonus) which comes with salads and relishes for £8.50 - the pastry might not 100% have passed Mary Berry's soggy bottom test but overall it was delicious and the salad was a tasty jumble of different leaves, tomatoes and seeds. My husband went up to the counter to pay for the coffees we had had while we waited for lunch, and said that we could wait no longer. We were feeling the cold and wanted something to warm us up and opted for the lentil and tomato soup (much of the menu offered quite a bit of salad type dishes - not ideal in freezing Scottish weather). to our delight we were served big bowls of hot tasty soup - just perfect but marred a little by brown rolls that did not feel or taste fresh. Cakes and a hot drink to finish and very good. The place was cold, even though we were sitting right next to the log burner. Service was fine, Prices maybe a wee bit high.

I visited here for lunch today with a friend who has a young baby. My friend lives locally to the cafe & frequents often & suggested it for our lunch. The tables were fairly spacious & high chairs available. The shop had the usual groceries that she needed to pick up but I was delighted to find some lovely & unusual bits & pieces/gifts in the shop.Lunch itself was delicious! We followed this with coffee & cake. I couldn't decide on which cake to have so opted for the "tray bake" which gave me a small portion of 4 different cakes! What a delight!! Actually 4 delights! The price was very reasonable too & I look forward to returning again soon. The waitress was lovely & friendly too.

The food was brilliant, I had the soup and it was very tasty! The service was great. We were served by a young dark haired girl, who was friendly and attentive. Will come back in the near future

Enjoyed a refreshing coffee during a break from shopping. Surroundings are not the best, but adequate for the type of establishment. Would use the cafe again.

Quite often pop in for a few groceries and get them to make me a roll to take away. Have also bought fantastic wedding gifts and Christmas presents, you just never know what they will stock next.

It was busy when we arrived at Fenton Barns cafe for lunch, but we found an empty table that hadn't yet been cleared. Menus were on the table so we decided what to order, but it took a little while to attract a staff member. The waiter was friendly - but appeared unfamiliar with the menu, and didn't realise our table hadn't been cleared.I ordered a fish platter - fish pate, prawns, smoked salmon, salad, oatcakes and bread. My friend ordered a terrine, which the waiter came back to advise they didn't make any more. Our meals were fresh, tasty and well presented, but the service was patchy and didn't match the quality of the food.

Have eaten here many times over the years, regularly for afternoon tea and cakes after a beach walk at Yellowcraig and also for lunches as a couple with family and recently with friends. Service was good, many of the staff have been there for a long time which is evident in their good team work. The food is unpretentious, fresh and down to earth - hearty meals and light lunches, plated up in a attractive way. Sometimes, when the café is busy, one has to wait a while but it is always worth it and there is the shop to look around which seems to house so many attractive gifts and edible goodies that it's hard to go home without buying something else!

The food here is delightful, fresh, home-made and not pretentious. Coffees and cakes too all fit the bill. The shop is exquisite and I always buy things I don't mean to (tip: don't shop for food until after lunch). The selection of food and items in the shop has been done very cleverly by someone who knows quality and style.

Quality homemade food - had the fish platter which had salad with delicious seasoning and salmon, prawns and pâté with lovely rolls and oatcakes. Shop well worth a visit too as it has very unusual items including gluten-free venison burgers- not cheap but quality. Unusual tasty cakes too.

At first this eatery seems a little down at heel, but you forget the shabbiness once you have tasted the food! The daily choice of quiche is interesting, as are the other dishes. Not the cheapest in their area, but definitely worthies it is completely homemade. The cakes are really good. The shop attached has a great range of deli choices as well as some good gifts or treats for yourself!

The food in the farm shop cafe is nice, but it is a bit on the expensive side for what it is. Would eat here more often if it was cheaper.

Myself and friend decided on a hot chocolate and cake stop here last week and were a bit disappointed. Good range of cakes but felt they should have been in a covered cabinet or at least under cake covers, meant the sponge in particular was dried up. Friendly staff but at £11 for two chocs, a sponge and tray bake it was overpriced for the basic surroundings.

As a returning customer of this intimate but quaint little farm shop/cafe i have always come away feeling satisfied and most of all full. Whilst it is very compact inside the service is second to none, a reasonable amount of food and drink options that will please everyone young and old, the food is fresh and healthy....not your standard cafe!! As a treat i took my 89 year old grandmother and 63 year old uncle for some lunch, we were even offered a smaller portion for my gran which was great as she is a small eater...even then the portions were huge. The price hits the wallet however in this case it was not grudged as everything was well presented and tasty, i will return with family and recommend to everyone. The staff make it a priority to assist with disabled/wheelchair users and accommodate most requests. Normally when we have a day out establishments and attractions are not so helpful and it feels like they are forcefully made to help, not at Fenton Barns tho everyone makes us feel welcome and respects our needs, as my grandmother is disabled they take that extra little care with her by asking if her seating area is ok, how she is enjoying herself and ensuring her dietary needs are met!! A real little treasure of a place!!!

Food is good but expensive for what you are served. During our visit the table hadn't been cleaned by waitress after last customers ... and as a result we ended up with chocolate all over our sleeves (crumbs from the table). Unfortunately I can't say that they were run off their feet and didn't have time ...

Have visited many times over the years, and I keep on going back. Not because the venue is stunning, or the food brilliant, but because its always good quality. The service can tend to be a bit slow at times, but the waitresses are always pleasant. The home made cakes are on display and it can be difficult to choose because they all look yummy. Prices are maybe just a little above average, and this place is fairly busy, I think if it is busy it speaks for itself., The farm shop attached, has lots of goodies from food to kitchen goodies, but be prepared to pay the price.

The food's probably really good, but then it is quite expensive. Actually we decided not to stay because we weren't made to feel welcome. The waitress didn't make any move towards us or say anything to welcome us. Very poor service.
