Place is shut down but website still takes reservations

Brought my mum here for her birthday and had to apologise to her for wasting her time. Firstly, online menu and their physical menu didn’t correlate - got to the restaurant and at least 40% of the menu wasn’t available - if we had knew before, we wouldn’t have come. Everything we asked “sorry we don’t have it” no problem … ordered our drinks. Waited more than half an hour for drinks? Then my mum ordered gizzards starter, I order livers. 40 minutes later I get the livers, and mum is told there are no gizzards ??? So the whole time, what was happening? Why did they wait to bring out my starter and then say, sorry we don’t have gizzards? does that make sense? Mains come after about an hour, kids meal comes some time after ours, kids should be served first. The rice was so undercooked it literally tasted like pebbles, it’s shocking. Then the rest of her plate has a strange aftertaste and said it tasted like it had been left out for a while. Ribs I got were over cooked, can tell that they were left out for sometime as well, really dry on the sides. I can only say the waitress we had (light skin girl) was very nice, polite and understanding, even when I told her we can’t pay for one of the meals because it was genuinely inedible, didn’t argue or try to create excuses. But the place itself isn’t great. If menu is super limited with chefs on holiday, why not close? Instead of stretching yourself thin and making service even worse

Waited for more than 45 minutes without even being offered a drink. The kids who are serving looked really confused. The main meal came before what is meant to be a starter. We had to request to get the table recleaned. Visited after it was recommended but it left us disappointed and the person who took us there embarrassed.

Lovely environment however you will wait for an hour for starters and main might never show up till you give up. Starter was too salty, management needs to step up 2 years since my last review and same issues experienced again.

Highly disappointed in the lack of flexibility. Kitchen was closed fair enough, had ordered a takeaway before it closed. Bar was open until 11, was more than happy to eat from our takeaway boxes while we had a drink but got told you can have your drinks but can't eat the food in the premises because the kitchen was shut. Rather senseless to not want to make some profit from a customer who is willing to buy drinks after buying your food!!!!

The food is amazing at this place, the ambience too.. only major concern the few times I’ve been there is the waiting time for food to be served.. takes over an hour. So just be mindful that you’ll wait a long time before your order is served.

Never ever again Do not go there plz You will receive your food in 3 hours time. The price is shocking and not worth it They need to change, they are representing Zimbabweans badly

It's one of those places I would have loved to give more stars but honestly could not as there was an really long wait for the food we had as well as the lack of veg opinions on the menu. But the food was really good tho and the staff really tried there best

My visit was a bad day at the office.. Shambles is an understatement.. Staff are aware of the joke operations..thats a positive..food was 1*..there was no food that saturday night.. paid £25 for rubbish food. Rock hard everything..Proper piss taking.. Cheap drinks kept the moral.. The advertised event did not even exist.. Drove from London..hotel booked..African evening was a part from a horror show.. Table service ended up a hotel takeaway.. Got really ill after trying part of the not fit for purpose food..white girl behind the bar was smiling eventually..young tall waiter couldn't apologise enough...tipped him for the soothing apologies..a young man with a vision. Shocking behaviour from management .. Jokers in business..

Had a great time at eKhaya Bar & Grill,food was delicious.The waitress and waitresses were committed to great service and were very friendly.Will deffo recommended and will definitely be visiting again.Cheers 🥂

Great atmosphere, great staff, lovely venue for any event

Lovely place, food is delicious, the experience is amazing.

Terrible experience table booked for 7pm. Ignored totally by staff. Finally got sat at 8.10 pm. Table sticky as not cleaned told staff did nothing. Finally took our order around 9.15 had to ask numerous times for a drink. Total shambles given the wrong bill which had someone else's drink on. Definitely would never go again. One young waiter was the only one that should be employed........terrible

This is a great place to eat 😋 if you have 2 to 3hrs to spare while waiting for your food. There's a lot of waiters but kitchen wise... the wait takes your appetite.

Arrived at 6:40 and didn’t get any starter until 8:00pm, food arrived separately when the rest came / part of an meal came with the other not there so by the time the other came it was all cold . The room was so cold & customer Service was poor . Only positive was the white lady ( forgotten her name) who took our order and tried to accommodate my allergy . Food was nice but not worth the wait or the price .

The drinks menu says there's draught beers but there aren't any. It's loud in there so they can't here you when they eventually come to take your order. Beers are bottles only, poor selection. Not impressed with the speed of service and we decided to leave before we experienced further disappointment, especially at the prices quoted.

The service was good the staff was friendly and kept to COVID restrictions although some times food may take while to get to you it’s good food I would recommend any one going to try the pachoto oxtail or the barbecue ribs

Ekhaya Bar and Grill , Where do I start …. It has the most delicious African food , my favourite dish is the Highfridz , Kidney beans & Sadza, it’s to die for. I have also tried their beef burgers with fries & creamy chicken livers as a starter. The chef never fails & the staff is truly amazing & friendly …. Good customer service. The cocktails as well I would recommend you try them , they are really nice 😍… especially the hakuna matata.

Great food and beautiful African background music and art decor.

Beautiful restaurant with such a nice vibe. New renovations during covid-19 just add to the vibe and make it a really enjoyable dining experience. The food NEVER disappoints. Chef is on point. I would travel every day for the Oxtail and Sadza. Always cooked to perfection.

Date night or family dinner, Ekhaya provides the perfect ambience. Food and drink are to die for. Staff was very helpful and gave excellent recommendations for both food and drinks. Would definitely recommend.

Oh where can I start. From the time we entered your service was good, your waiters and waitresses were just great not forgetting the good communication skills demonstrated by your manager Peter. The food was just delicious, from the presentation to the taste. Well done Ben and your team, I will definitely be coming back soon

Food takes a little long but it is delicious

Getting into the premises from the main road is easily a miss if you are new. The parking itself was crowded a sign of what it was like inside. We were soon taken to a table which felt a bit sticky. The drinks and food menu looked impressive. Having sat down and given our orders just after 9pm, the first drinks came after a 30min wait. The food was a real let down. The Lake Nyasa meal at £25 was terrible to the taste. So were the scallops and onion rings. The only exception to this meal were the gizzards and liver. The waiters were polite and keen to help but the manager was nowhere in sight.

Great experience throughout. Staff very friendly and the food was amazing! The sharing platters had a lovely variety of dishes. Free parking and a very elegant restaurant. Highly recommended!

Not that impressed. Travelled a long way to eat here as I had been told by our Zimbabwean friend that it was a great restaurant for African cuisine. Although not busy we waited 90 minutes for our food. I discovered just before I left that they did have a party upstairs. I guess that this may have contributed to the delay in receiving our food, but no explanation was offered when we ordered. Staff were pleasant enough. As regards the food, the only thing that was standout for me was the rice. The Sadza was okay and flavourless, although this was the first time I had tried this dish, and had been told that it had little or no flavour. The sweet potato fries were soggy, not crisp at all and the portions were small for the amount of money paid. The meat was extremely fatty and greasy. Maybe this is genuine cuisine and I should expect fatty, greasy food when I travel to Zim? So meal was okay, but I didn't feel it was worth travelling the distance for this meal.

A LOT, and I mean a LOT of improvements are needed at this place in order for eKhaya to provide efficient service. Waited for our food for just over THREE hours! Only because we had driven for 2hours to get there, otherwise we would have quite easily gone to KFC instead.

The food was very tasty and fresh unfortunately the service was chaotic. I had to wait 2 hours for the main course. The initial drinks and a starter arrived after 45 minutes. The waitresses didn't seemed to be concerned at all. My bill was mixed-up. That night me nor my partner weren't the only dissatisfied customers in the restaurant. I have to admit though that we received apologies from the manager and from a young waiter who's names I don't remember.

Went on reopening day after long lockdown closure. Drinks were cold, gizzards were delicious.... Loved it.

Had the seafood platter and it was amazing! My favourite were the king prawns and seabass. The sweet potato fries were crisp not floppy so food was a perfect 10. Very tasty and served within a reasonable time too. The servers were brilliant and efficient. The music created the perfect ambience and the new decor is beautiful. Very Afrocentric, modern and hip. The cocktails are very unique so it may be nice to offer 'common' alternatives for those with less adventurous palettes. Overall brilliant place x

I think the decor is in keeping with the traditional vibe. The toilets were clean. However, l think the service is slow. Maybe there should be more than 3 people on the floor. We ordered side vegetables and they came when we had finished our food. I also suggest that there be toothpicks at the tables for obvious reasons. Please re visit and have a think about the vases and flowers on the tables. Thank you

So after driving for thirty minutes to order my favourite dish from here, being made to wait for another 30mins only to be told they don’t have oxtail so they can make me an alternative which meant waiting again as they did this, this place is officially a miss from me. First and most importantly the senior members of staff (manager/owner) DID NOT FOLLOW GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS OF WEARING A MASK OR MAKING SURE GUESTS LEAVE BY 10pm. I’ve never experienced such poor service, quality of food and customer service. Food didn’t come out as menu stated, yet they charged it the same prices and even if a dish is no longer request they still charge you despite it not coming to the table. As it is an African restaurant I was expecting flavours but not even salt was used to season the food. If you can’t get chicken wings cooked to a basic standard how can you expect them to make ribs. The waiting staff however are very nice and polite.

Very good food and service! Food and drinks arrived on time. I had the Kalahari wings and hifiridzi with sadza and both were very tasty.

I cant mention things one by one cause everything was perfect. Food was delicious and presented well. Place is clean too and up to the standard. Some members of staff were not too friendly and were concentrating on just doing their job but l guess the manager can sort that.

I have just been to Ekhaya, first time post lockdown. The place has upgraded and with an amazing new look. The ambience and feel is well suited with name of the place. It feels homely with a glamorous look. I believe the menu has also updated to. I throughly my time there today, exceptional service and amazing food. I went there to introduce my friend to our local Zimbabwean cuisine and they were completely sold and now will be regular customers. Loved the food😍😋

Was excited to go in here thinking it was going to be good but was disappointed had steak & chips which was slightly pricey compared to an average pub so thought it was going to be good but was a Poor quality steak & chips were under cooked

Very friendly staff. Social distancing made possible, clean with hand sanitizer stations around the restaurant. Vegetarian and vegan option available. The kidney bean stew was flavorful. Beef sausage dish was tasty, good quality meat. Delicious cheesecake. Hopefully we can visit again soon!

Almost empty when we went in (4 in our party).Had to order at the bar, nice staff but really inexperienced. No draught lagers on tap. Started to get busier, the food took an hour to arrive. Small portions and very overpriced. Left hungry. We wouldn't go again!

I was disappointed by the service you have to go to the bar to order drinks and another second trip to order your meals and a lot of food on the menu has already run out around 7pm.Waited for an hour for food to be served and some of the food where cold had to request to be reheated.The only food everyone loves was fish and ribs the rest was blunt no flavour, the rice in peanut butter had less peanut butter.lt took ages for the table to be cleared It looked like we had inexperience waiters saving us they looked like a bunch of high school kids saving us.Anyway will definitely not recommend .

The food was not as good as last year in August, Talipia fish , lamb chops, missing on the menu, borewores sausages not well cooked fried instead of barque, some of our order was missing, this was last Sunday.

First class experience, beautiful setting I can proudly say Obama can come to!friendly waiters, even spoke with the owners (young couple), delicious food. you will get captivated at the entrance. different vibe entirely. thumbs up to black entrepreneurs all over thw world.

Food was okay although the staff are very Inexperienced. To order a drink or food you have to go to the bar ... surely being a bar and a grill someone should come to your table and ask what you would like to order. While ordering a starter which was prawns I was told they did not have none so i had to choose something else. I asked for a beef burger for the main this also was not in stock. I was also asked do I want my main first then starter ? There is a reason the starter is called a starter ... We had to wait 1 hour and 15 min for the food to arrive and when it did they served the starter with the main at the same time even though I specifically said we wanted the starter first.

Great food, atmosphere and lovely experience. Service was efficient in delivering the food but due to low staffing, took ages to clear our dirty plates. I'm definitely becoming a regular here

After a great night at Ekhaya’s Zim awards event it was only right I come to receive the best beef burgers I’ve ever had. It was really cooked with love and I could taste every flavours within the burger. I want to say thanks to the Ekhaya team for this lovely time. See you soon :)

The best place for functions. The food is superb. The charges are unbelievable.

We had a baby shower at this venue in their function room which is upstairs. The room itself is beautiful , and the restroom facilities very clean too! We met Ben and Esi Masina who own the business and from start to finish they were very easy going and professional at the same time! They really delivered what we wanted and were quite flexible. What makes a good event is good food, and oh my oh my the food was excellent!!! We had perfectly done oxtail, fish , flavoured grilled chicken, chicken livers, sadza, vegetable fried rice, kale in peanut butter, an assortment of salads!!! the food was so plenty and good value for money. The waiters were on hand for all our needs and so was Esi and Ben who kept checking to see if we were ok! We decorated as we wanted and even had our own DJ, we will definitely be making further bookings at Ekhaya as the standard service was excellent and no hiccups whatsoever!! This venue won us over as parking space is plenty and free !! and the venue is easily accessible for those travelling from major motorways. We just want to say thank you Esi & Ben and your wonderful team for delivering an excellent service that will be imprinted on our hearts forever as this was surely a wonderful occasion for us!! Patience

Good atmosphere to relax. Been going to this restaurant for a while now and in the beginning the service was not that great largely due to the wait times (Over an hour + waiting for food) but they have since improved by slashing down the wait times and great service received from the twins Charlene and Caroline. Keep up the quick Service!
