Eight South in Castlereagh

I loved the experience I had at Eight South. The food was delicious, and it didn't take long to be served. The waiting staff were very attentive. The atmosphere was very welcoming, I really enjoyed my meal and I would recommend the place to family and friends.

Called down today to the off license to be greeted by a man in a high vis shouting and roaring in my face if I was parking to use their premises. I informed him I was nipping over to drop something at the shop first and he proceeded to watch me and wait until I came out of the off license to see if I had bought anything. There’s so much nicer and easier places to call into where you won’t be intimidated. The new Eurospar round the corner has an off license and ample parking where you won’t get yelled at.

A place where food is great but service is horrendous. You have to ask for someone to take your order while staff chat at the bar and watch tv. They also hog most of the parking spaces for their patrons only which means if you want to go to any one of the other three establishments next door, you simply can’t because parking is unavailable. A situation which is closely monitored and very off putting

We had a great meal here at the weekend, I had the open prawn salad which was absolutely delicious (minus the apple next time). We enjoyed it so much that we are going again this evening with the mother in law. Husband had the pizza and the base was lovely. Can’t wait to be back. Haven’t eaten here in a few years but glad we returned!

The staff were great from the beginning. We had booked in advance for 18 adults with a request to be near a tv to watch a particular rugby match. The staff reserved an area for us that met all our requests. The food was delicious and got 👍🏻 from everyone. We had ordered an array of different dishes. The cocktails on tap was also a big hit. We will definitely be returning Thanks to all the staff !

Great place. Dropped in for dinner with the family. Very attentive, approachable, and pleasant. I really do like this place. Parking is a bit difficult times. But overall a great place to eat good food.

Really good all the time , this place is consistent in quality and service . The staff are second to none, Keith , Gary , Matthew and the girls serving the tables are amazing, all of them. Trevor is an absolute gentleman and makes his returning customers feel so welcome . Food is always top notch and the booze ain’t half bad either !!

Always get a good meal in Eight South and never leave a review but today I just had to give credit when due. We had booked for early dinner. The traditional roast beef was 10 out of 10 as always. Chicken gourgons with double cooked chips were so good. Personally I was never fussed on the chips here as always felt they were to chunky but today they were absolutely gorgeous. Whatever way they are being cooked please don't change it. The garlic mayo dip was also 10 out of 10. Great staff as always very attentive but not overkill. Excellent choice on menu and great value 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

We booked Eight South specifically for a family graduation celebration. The food was on the whole ok but the honey chilli chicken was far too salty to be eaten, the seabass was sitting in oil and the chicken goujons were done in batter which was not stated on the menu and which most children don't like. Apart from that as I said we booked for a family meal and we were given three separate tables, two side by side and one totally separate from the others. Therefore the party were unable to enjoy the meal together without having to walk about the restaurant. If they weren't able to cater for the numbers together they should have told this at the time of booking. I have eaten here before but am very disappointed on how this meal went.

Went for a midweek meal this evening. We both had the turkey dinner. It came with no trimmings and whilst it looked a bit basic we did both enjoy it. My hubby would have loved roasties and a decent gravy would have been a good addition. Being low carb eater I was really surprised to see a flourless cake on the dessert menu and it was absolutely delicious, well worth going back for. All in all a nice meal and not too busy. The bar side is so much nicer to dine in. Def be back 👍

We stopped here on our way to Holywood from silent valley in the evening time. The burgers were 25% off which was a good deal (full price £15-16) and the pizza was huge. They gave us a box to take the left over pizza away with us. The wine was by the bottle only, either a full bottle or 187ml , which was OK but meant no large glass of wine for me! Cosy fire in the place and a nice bar area. Can't go wrong! Note, food orders are up to 830pm, pizza last order is 9pm Plus there's a decent enough wine shop next door, open until 9pm.

Nice dinner, lovely service. I enjoyed the steak one time, the fish supper another time.

Ordered hot chocolate. The guy making it did not wear gloves or use tongs for the marshmallows. He put some in his mouth before putting some in the hot chocolate which was just about warm and he forgot about the cream.

I organised a birthday party for my husband for the 25th November , from the day I spoke to Trevor the owner he put my mind at ease . The room was beautiful , food amazing, and the group he got were called the late shift which were fantastic . Everyone who went to the party which was around 65 people are still talking about the venue , food and the fantastic group . Thank you Trevor and staff you are all stars 🌟

Lunch at Eight South was gorgeous 😍 Chef's Pate for starters, sizzling peppered chicken with chips for mains and apple and blackberry crumble with custard for dessert. The portion sizes in the desserts are huge!! So it was definitely save the best for last!!

Staff very polite and nice very attentive. So much so, they were watching our every move and waiting for us to finish. Had just set my glass down and they were over to lift it. Felt we were rushed. Food was okay. Wouldn’t rush back but wouldn’t say no to going back.

Wouldn’t even let us in because one of our friends had joggers on, they said it was a dress code which they only have in high end restaurants, it was in the middle of a spar and an off-licence. The bouncer said that the manager was actively looking for people with joggers on, why does the manager have nothing better to do than look for people who aren’t wearing their dress code?

This has to be one of the best restaurants we have enjoyed for a few years now. Every time we eat here, the food is excellent, the staff are really friendly and helpful. Eight South has a great range of menu options and you will not be disappointed. Great parking front of restaurant which is free. Easy access for wheelchairs and prams. No steps or obstacles so so step into great surroundings and relax while you get served great food.....Highly recommend this little gem but do make a reservation so your not disappointed....Enjoy!

My finance and I had our engagement dinner with our family at Eight South. Everything about the night was perfect. Food was top quality. Service and staff where fantastic. We will definitely be back.

Great spot to just drop in for lunch. Good menu and also light lunch menu. Food very good - I had chicken stir fry and my wife had baked potato.

When we stepped into the we were greated by the lovely Sinead, she was so efficient and on her job!! The food was outstanding, we both had soup and fish (different options) The portions were massive. It’s a very clean well minded venue and the staff were all fantastic! We will be back!

Quiet on a Saturday afternoon. But that suited us. Lovely lunch, reasonable pricing and prompt service. I had a lovely lasagne with ground beef rather than usual mince. Held shape and wasn't sloppy. Good sized portion. Daughter had chicken burger which looked and tasted lovely. My wife had chicken goujons which she couldn't finish and ended up taking a couple home.

We were there on the 8th of August with a group of 20, we got first class service, the food was amazing and our group of 20 were very pleased. Big shout out to the staff and management for the service, very professional and quick. We will all be recommending Eight South to all family and friends.

Just popped in on the way home after a day's outing. Never been in it before but it was a great meal and I will keep it in mind when I am out that way.

Their own web site stated daily specials are from 12-5pm. I arrived before 5pm but was told by a member of staff the specials finish at 4pm. Had to take from the main menu instead. Either web site wrong or I was given wrong information. Either way, restaurant need to sort out.

We attended is south for family birthday and as always had a very enjoyable meal. The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly and the food was really really good. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and the family dinner. Also we really have a good time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and our meal. When we asked for something different, that was not a problem and the staff couldn’t do enough for you were really helpful. I was really impressed by her very helpful. They were for sure. I will definitely go back here because I love Claire food so very much. When I booked the table, I told them that they were going to be two people who need a disabled access one in a wheelchair and one on the later, and that was not a problem whatsoever. When I arrived today this evening, they had given us a perfect table with plenty of room, and one seat was away for the wheelchair person, and there was plenty of room for my Rollator also. It’s just goes to show how well they listened to my instructions and how well they listened when I told them what we were needing. I was really pleased with us indeed. Ryan, McCartney.

We had ate here before with kids an last time we where in was about 8 months ago Always had lovely food before so we decided to go here for food last night WELL I WONT BE BACK !! Ordered food an drinks Had just started eating my peppered chicken sizzler an got a hair in my mouth I was nearly sick I took the hair out to discover it was a man’s beard hair the girl had just them come over an ask was everything ok I showed the hair on my finger an she was like I’m so sorry let me get you another one an let chef know Waiting quite a while for my food to come down my hubby had already ate his by the time mine came down Anyway the girl brought the new dish an apologised an said chef doesn’t know how that would of got in there My husband went to pay at the end an was being charged for 2 peppered chicken until he said about the hair . Don’t know if they have changed chef but the food was not nice never mind the hair I had being going here for years but I will not be back awful

Went to Eight South with our walking group (23) on our way home from a day out. We had pre-ordered and the food was all presented as requested. Feedback from everyone was very positive and plates were cleared. We would certainly think about going there again.

Place was almost completely empty - still they squeezed us into a small table in the corner by the bar and "couldn't seat us elsewhere". When I went to move the table beside to fit the pram in the manager immediately rushed over to say they needed that table.... In an empty restaurant..... Maybe they were expecting 200 people to show up in a bus last minute? Who knows. It was the fastest the staff moved for the entire session though... The rest of the time they were slow and inattentive Food was bland and very basic, like a canteen but with restaurant prices Rude staff Poor service Bland Food Don't go here

Used to go to 8 South every fortnight for lunch. The last 3 times the food has declined. Ordered sandwiches the bread was stale and no side salad on the side presented very badly My friend ordered the omelette with chips. They forgot to bring the chips and when they did they tasted of fish. They must of cooked it with the fish disgusting Some staff have a bad attitude aswell.

Good food will definitely be back. Sizzling peppered chicken is a must

Booked a post marathon meal for our local running group yesterday and can’t praise staff and food enough in Eight South.Atmosphere was lovely and relaxed and service was excellent.Food came out piping hot and well presented.Clean plates all round with a wide variety of dishes from the menu including vegetarian and dairy free.Compliments all round from 20 satisfied runners.Thank you to everyone.

This place is ok. The food and drink is of a good quality but for the price I would expect a much better standard. The atmosphere is the same as what you would expect from any other bar and grill. I went to eight south back when there was a covid restriction of six to a table for a family dinner. Because of the restriction we had to be split across three tables. The older man with glasses servicing is an odd character I cant tell if he says things because he thinks they are funny or he is just blunt and rude. Before the dinner I tired to order a strawberry daiquiri this waiter then told me 'no'. I am laughing it off I took it as a joke reply he then said ' I can't we are out of strawberries'. Taking him on his word I changed my order to a glass of wine. 30 mins later after a the meal, I see this same waiter bring my sister-in-law strawberry daiquiri at a different but near by table (Again we were split because of the covid thing). For the next 10 mins the waiter seems to dodge our table. When I finally get him over I ask for 'one of what she is having' indicating to the drink my sister-in-law has. He doesn't say anything but simply scuttles off to make my cocktail. When he puts it on the table and says 'seriously that is the last cocktail I can make because we really are out of strawberries.' I completely get the reason but why is it one thing for me and not another. The way it was handled was so blunt it was boarder line funny. It has completely changed my opinion of the restaurant. I wont be back while this dude still works here!

This was our third time at Eight South. The first just before Mothers day was fine. The second on St Patrick's Day... awful. Easter Tuesday... awful. The food is lovely, very tasty and generous portions, my 8 year old loves their pizza. The surroundings in the restaurant are great. comfortable tables, clean, tidy and well decorated. The service is abysmal. It really lets the whole place down. We booked on each occasion. Each time we arrived with children aged 8-11. First time 2 children, second time 3 kids and last time 4. If you book with kids they will sit you in a booth. These are too small to order pizza as the boards are big and invariably the people who have to sit on the outside of the booth will have to tetter on the edge the entire time just to accommodate everyone. Never come here for a quick bite. although the food sometimes is slow in coming out, it is the failings of the service staff, who left us at Easter with empty plates in front of us for more than 30 minutes before I finally caught their attention and asked them to be cleared. There is excessive waits for everything. Get a seat wait 15 minutes before ordering, finish your starter wait 20 minutes to have plates collected, repeat for mains. Ask for dessert menus, wait 10-15 minutes to order those. Wait another 20 minutes to have these plates cleared. Ask for bill - 15 minutes. Ask to pay by card - 15 minutes to get card machine. A 2 course dinner for 6 on Tuesday took 1hr 45 minutes. Kids were getting incredibly bored and rowdy. Very stressful trying to keep them under control especially as 2 have ADHD and one is ASD. Could understand if it was busy but only 8 parties the whole time we were there. Staff training is desperately needed. Having worked in catering they should know that table turnaround is money earned. I appeal to management to address this issue as this could be a great place but the service (or lack thereof) completely lets it down. I first went on a recommendation. Neither I, nor the initial recommender will choose to return due to these significant issues. I have spoken to others who have noted exactly the same failings (as seen throughout these reviews). management needs to listen and address them.

Poor service from the get go. We didn’t book a table as it was a Monday, so around 5pm we arrived and asked for one 2 adults and 4 month old baby the blonde girl looked me up and down a good few times before deciding yes or no baring in mind there was about 8 tables only. Once seated we ordered 2 waters and a Guinness. 1 water came and the Guinness so I asked for another water which came almost straight away. Food ordered which didn’t take very long to come out. No one came to check on our table to see how the food was, the same blonde girl was cleaning the table behind with a colleague and moaning about them 2 being the only ones doing a certain section, so I asked when they’re free could we get some more water to the table and she laughed and said yes no problem. Surprise surprise no water came and our food was hard to enjoy as the Fish & Chips where nice but greasy as expected so it was hard to finish and the Pizza had a lot of oil on it so again it was hard to finish. I then went to change my son in the toilets, checked the disabled toilet no changing table to be seen however there but a sign stating do not flush nappies down the toilet?? Went into the women’s and again no changing table. I came back out and asked the waiter and he told me there was a bit in the disabled toilet that can be used, my face must’ve dropped as he seen my reaction and asked was that ok, absolutely not the part he was referring to is a MARBLE counter. Very unsafe for any baby, considering they kick about lift there heads etc. I understand I could’ve put down his blanket but even with the blanket down it would still be very hard so we just paid our bill and left. Shocked that in 2023 and a family restaurant does not have changing facilities for a baby. Will I return? Probably not, food was nice but service and facilities is a lot to be desired here.

Food is OK but there is nothing to write home about. Service was average. Restaurant empty so no atmosphere to speak of.

Rude owner/ manager. Came here for mother's Day 2 adults 2 kids, when being shown to our seat I asked if we could have a high chair, he said ,you didn't say you need I high chair when you booked ,you said 2 adults 2 kids, anyway I couldn't put a high chair there for health and safety reasons. We were in the corner that was nonsense, also when walking away he was muttering something about there not being any high chair free. The other staff are much better. The chips were slightly undercooked and the rest of the food was ok. Plenty of competition around so il go elsewhere in future.

I had lasagna with a friend, it was served greasy. I went home with upset stomach vomit all over the toilet. Had to scrap for an hour to remove all the grease came with it. The water was nice tho..

Our group of 32 had lunch at Eight South on Tuesday last. Food was excellent,all choices were great ,I really loved the fish and chips.Service was efficient and friendly and staff pleasant and helpful. The whole experience was very enjoyable and we will definitely be back.

Had lunch here, opted for starter and dessert as there are no light lunches other than salad on the menu. Food was good, service was good and overall good value.

A bouncer on the door of a restaurant is never a good sign, as soon as we walked in we realised why he was there, very loud and rowdy crowd. We had booked a table but staff had no record of the booking, it really was a horrible atmosphere, loud music and people shouting over it, like a nightclub with food. The waitress offered us a table next door, not quite a loud but we still had to shout across the table to one another, it was a very unpleasant noise level. Staff were pleasant but clueless about the food and wine list. The food arrived in a reasonable time, thats pretty much the best i can say about it, i asked for a "well done" burger, it was far from it, cold and greasy, chips also cold and greasy. We had two steaks at the table, one was fine the other over cooked and fatty. Honestly if i had been there with my wife we would have complained and left but as part if a bigger group we had to grin and bear it. We tried to make the most of it but nobody could really say they enjoyed it. I did attempt to use the gents to wash my hands but the floor was a puddle from a leaking urinal so i didn't bother. I will not be back, its low quality cafe food sold at restaurant prices in a rowdy nightclub atmosphere, honestly i would rather have had a drive through McDonalds. Try the Ivanhoe up the road if your in the area, its is so much better than this place.
