A truly awful experience. We got to the café at 2.50pm, only to be told that they we now only serving drinks and cakes, due to a backlog, although disappointing, as the closure time was 4pm, we decided to take a table and order a Latte, an Americano, and a Cherry Bakewell. Whilst seated, the small room was very cramped with as many tables as they could fit it, making it so loud, it was hard to hold a conversation, as it was that full. We wait around 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive, and thought the Cherry Bakewell would follow. After 5 minutes we asked one of the servers about this and the response was “There is a backlog”.. The Cherry Bakewell eventually arrived 5 minutes after this, by which time we had finished our drinks. Even if we had asked for more drinks, this would have been caught in the “backlog”..! On the food & Drinks - The coffee was awful and Cherry Bakewell, turned out to be a cake on such a small plate, it was impossible not to drop some of it on the table whilst trying to eat into it. The cost of this truly awful experience was £13.90 The problem on service is clear to see, not enough backroom staff to accommodate the number of tables they have crammed into such a small space. If you want to be sitting in a crammed room, waiting for service and paying top money to be treated like cattle, then this is the place for you.

OK so it's not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. My husband and I stopped for lunch and both had the sausage and marmalade jam sandwiches (one toasted) - they were superb and came with the most delicious coleslaw and salad on the side. The service was great, friendly and efficient. We had to return to the cafe 2 hours later as my husband realised he had left his mobile on the table, staff were so helpful and showed us ( 2 old codgers !!) how to set up the emergency service should it happen again (hopefully not).

Very good value for money, very quickly served, tasty and plentiful. I had chicken and bacon Ciabatta with chilli sauce. All are on the more expensive side but I felt it was well worth the expense. My five friends had a similar lunch menu and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.

Having been to the Concept Cafe once before and visited the sister cafe at The Hollies Little Budworth several times I was expecting great service and excellent quality food. Unfortunately today’s visit was most disappointing. Although we were served very quickly, that’s exactly where the service ended. No one checked if the food was fine (it wasn’t), no one asked if we wanted more drinks or food or the bill ...... in fact no one even made eye contact or spoke when clearing the table. We waited, waited and waited for someone to come back and actually speak to us to offer us more but no ........ so I went to the checkout, paid the high prices and left. Even then no one spoke or asked if everything was ok. The sausage sandwich was the greasiest I have ever had - the bottom slice of ciabatta was completely soggy with butter/oil dripping off and far too much onion marmalade - I had to scrape loads off which still left a lot on the bread which was too soggy to eat. I won’t be going back as the staff don’t even have the basic courtesy of speaking to customers and the food was disappointing.

Had a smoked salmon and avocado sandwich. Came on a seeded roll but the top half of the bun was hot! Strange. The sandwich was OK, but only OK. The salad leaves that came with it were not very nice as they were tough somehow. Expensive lunch that could have been much better. Service not over good. No one asked if we would like anything else or another drink, no one asked if the meal was OK. No one asked if we wanted the bill. Used to be much better than this.

Love this farm shop chain, even though this one is more compact than the main branch at Little Budworth, the cafe is far less pretentious & the quality of food equally as good. Very popular haunt, so be prepared for a wait at peak times, although outdoor tables also available. Have visited on more than one occasion and always really enjoy the food. Customer service is both personable & effective. The rest rooms are always clean and well presented. Ample car parking and accessible premise as all ground floor location. Popped here last week with my partner for a bite to eat. "Greeted" with a grunt and pointed to a table with menu's plonked down. It went down hill from here. No smiles just a "what do you want". Food was quite nice though. We through maybe the waitress was just having a bad day but she was smiling and chatting away to her regulars. Dirty plates left on the table and no offer of a pudding. Not that we would have stayed as we were beginning to feel like an inconvenience. Finally tracked somebody down to pay the bill and exited to the shop with a sour taste left it our mouths. We did ask the wiatressess name, I presume somebody told her, as she continued to follow us into the shop and quote rudely interrupted my partner to demand what was wrong. Very rude and utterly embarrassing. Not wanting to cause a scene we smiled and left. Perhaps we were not the clientele they wanted but we won't be back and won't be recommending either. What promised to be a lovely afternoon was ruined.

Visited a few times and conclude that if you have unlimited time on your hands then this really is worth a try. Its expensive though the food quality is very good so on balance is justified. However the service is awful. We witnessed an argument in the kitchen on our last visit with the chef yelling that he only had one pair of hands. Our breakfasts took 40 minutes from order to table following a wait of 10 minutes to give the order following a 15 minute for a table. Add in another 5 minutes waiting to pay and the time to eat the food and you're looking at around an hour and half for a couple of bacon sandwiches! It's clear the kitchen had limited capacity to cook the food and is really letting what would otherwise be an excellent experience

However, we had to ask for the menu. The drinks took a while to come and then we waited.....and waited.....and waited.....after 50 minutes....our sausage sandwiches arrived. They were actually very nice, but we complained about having to wait so long.....we were then told we could have ordered and gone shopping.....they could have given us a pager when our order was ready.........aghhh.....why didnt they tell us this?????? 2 sausage sandwiches (granted on ciabata and granary rolls) a pot of tea and a Latte....£23.00........Anyway.....went in to the shop, which looks lovely, but not really very much in the way of 'local' fresh produce. Infact, most of what we saw is available at our local Booths store. We bought some fruit and veg...and some cheese and some prepacked steaks which wern't cheap, but we like to think we are helping the farmers etc so dont mind paying a bit more.However.........Ive looked at the meat tonight.....and the 'use by date' was 20th Feb......yesterday!!! No discount on it either-i know we should have checked.....but really didnt think we would have do have done. We know the brand well - locally known as the "£50 shop" as you can't escape without spending at least £50. So we anticipated it would not be cheap....but actually the mark up on what they provide was actually just ridiculous.Don't get me wrong - the food is of quality and exceptionally well presented. But £30 for 3 soft drinks, 2 adult lunches and a kids meal? Seriously? And in true Hollie's style - they decline to offer you a till receipt, just your debit card receipt. Indeed this is the only retail outlet that I have met in the 21st century that declines to offer a till receipt - you have to "ask". Why is this, I wonder? What, pray tell, do they have to hide? Yet people must be able to justify the cost as it was busy...However, the acoustics of the place mean that even with my normal hearing, I could barely...hear...myself... think.....So, the food was good, but costly - what of the service? Well, I guess, like their other venue, it's run by kids. Sure beautifully mannered and turned out kids, but kids. So the swift lunch that we anticipated, took forever. Really forever. And they were completely and totally oblivious to our complaints. Therefore overall experience was marred as we have to rush the albeit lovely (expensive) food down whilst being subjectively deafened in the process.Come on Hollies - be a bit more realistic with your pricing structure!

Having never been before an meeting up with a friend for the afternoon this was an equal distance for both of us. It has good reviews so we decided to meet up here. Arrived around 12.45hrs and it was already very busy - but was fortunate to get a table as someone decided to not take up theirs. Staff were great considering some of the reviews on this page - absolutely no complaints on that front. Menu looked tasty enough but the prices really put us off - £8 for a jacket potato or £10 for a slice of quiche and side salad? so we settled on a slice of cake and a cuppa each - lemon drizzle cake - oh lordy it was most yummy :) £3.50 for the cake and £2.50 for a pot of tea. Taste wise - awesome! So would I go back? - probably not - whilst no complaints for the quality and taste on the cake the prices are way too high for what they are - at the end of the day it's a café in a farm shop. Maybe they are looking to attract the "Cheshire Set" - not being part of that it doesn't work on me!

Went for afternoon tea with friends. We shared the pre ordered afternoon tea (strange it had to be preordered - most places just make it for the customer when ordered) and ordered other cakes etc. I ordered scone sensation which was excellent. Very good scone and jam and cream with berries on the top. For my taste it was too sweet as there was too much jam on the scone. Next time I would choose the fruit scone without the cream. The afternoon tea was delicious. The restaurant was very nice and the waitresses were very helpful and efficient. I called into the extensive farm shop and bought various items including an individual pork pie. It cost £2 and was very disappointing. The pastry was not proper raised pastry and the meat was ok, frankly I've had better supermarket own brand pork pies. I shall stick with the lovely pork pies I buy from my butcher. We visited Hollies cafe on a Sunday morning, we arrived at about 11 and first impressions upon entering the building were great. We were greeted by a lovely young girl who advised we could pick our own table. The building was lovely and decorated to a high spec. We picked our table but moved immediately as it was sticky to touch. We were approached quickly and our order was taken, our drinks arrived quickly but our food took over half an hour. we didn't mind we were in no rush, what we did mind however was the table next to us who looked to have ordered the same but 10mins later got their meals first. There were far to many waitresses, it felt uncomfortable, they were pacing the room and generally not doing much. Our table was approached at one point to clear the plates when I still had a mouth full and a piece of toast in my hand! The food on the other hand was beautiful and worth the wait. I wont however be visiting again, for the price it was not as special as I expected.

For some reason trip advisor gives the location of the Hollies Farm Shop as Shropshire when its actually just off the M56 at Stratton in Cheshire. I've regularly visited the Hollies for many years since it first opened and have seen a steady improvement in both service and quality. The Cheshire Breakfast is supurb quality even though its a little pricy. Only constructive criticism I'd give is to offer either a cafeteria or a coffee top up service as individual cups prove very expensive if you want more than one and puts you off having more. Quality of the sausage, bacon etc used in the breakfasts is very high and comes from local sources. For a quiet bit of brekkie and a read of the papers on a Sunday morning The Hollies can't be beat but get there fairly early as you'll struggle to get a table after 11am

The food we have had has always been nice, on our most recent visit I had a jacket potato and my son a burger. It was £10 for the potato and £12 for the burger, whilst both were of decent quality both dishes felt very overpriced for what is a cafe. Staff are very friendly and helpful, everywhere is immaculately clean and the decor really stylish. The title says it all. My wife and I are great fans of their coffee shop. We live about 60 miles away but whenever we are in the area we find a good reason for calling in. We only normally have something light to eat but have on occasion had full meals. We are very regular coffee shop devotees and have to admit this is at the top end of the scale price wise for a farm shop but the quality is always good and the service is generally good also. They are generally pretty busy so that says something but we have never had to wait any more than 3/4 minutes for a table. Highly recommended.

Called in twice recently for a "coffee and cake break" on route to and from a Yorkshire holiday from Devon.Found waitresses to be very helpful and friendly. Coffee and cakes were delicious and the added touch of serving cake with a huge quantity of cream and a coulis was lovely. I can recommend the Alison mixed berry jam with a toasted tea cake. Very pricey though ... £15.60 for 2 coffees and 2 cakes! Main meals were also quite expensive.

I go to Hollies once a week with friends for lunch, the service is usually excellent also only have to wait a short while for fresh food to be prepared and brought to your table. Today Monday 20 October something went totally wrong, there were a couple of young ladies who seem to be new taking orders. I waited 50 minutes for my lunch, at one point i nearly left because of the flies which there were plenty, i really think the insectacutor must have been broken. Worse lunch i have had at Hollies. I always recommend this lovely coffee shop to my friends. (so pleased they never came with me on this poor occasion) VERY DISSAPOINTED

had breakfast this morning which was very enjoyable as usual. The café was short staffed but the waitress (the only one!) was magnificent. Totally unflappable. She apologised for the delay and served everyone with a big smile. The food was well cooked and presented. Another visit is on the cards.Don't know the waitresses name but you were great, thankyou

visited last week for brunch. I had a slice of cake and my husband had the cheshire breakfast. We were seated immediately and given the menus. Our waitress even offered to read the menu for my husband as he'd forgotten his glasses. Our order was taken and we received our drinks and meals relatively quickly. My cake was delicious, attention to detail was wonderful, not just a slice of cake placed on a plate, cream and a raspberry coulis made it seem so much more. My husband really enjoyed his breakfast the only complaint would be that his egg yolk was hard. we have visited many times and it doesn't matter if you are just having a coffee or a meal, the staff are always very friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We would definitely recommend this cafe.

My wife and I have visited The Hollies many times and have found the restaurant to be superb in terms of food quality, choice and staff attitude. We have found the cakes to be tasty, the Cheshire Breakfast really is the business!!As for price, yes you do pay more than at other restaurants, but you get what you pay for - quality. If you want cheap food, go to a supermarket cafe. The farm shop sells high quality products - the fresh meat is second to none in terms of quality, taste, freshness and range. We have always found the staff to be polite, friendly, efficient and to provide swift service. The food in the restaurant is prepared fresh to order and that takes time.We will continue to loyal Hollies patrons.NB: the above also applies to The Hollies at Little Budworth.

We are long standing fans of the Hollies farm shop at Stretton, but have not eaten in their cafe for a long time. However, given that we were in the area and knowing that the Hollies is synonymous with quality, we thought we would drop in for lunch. The good bits of the Concept cafe are friendly service, large tables and very comfortable seats. The menu is good, but the prices...Wow. £8 for an Egg Mayo sandwich is just too much, whilst the rest of the menu has prices more akin to a high class restaurant than a farm shop cafe.So if you want high quality food and drinks, friendly service, a comfy environment and you are not short of a "bob or two", then the Concept Cafe is well worth a visit. I would comfortably rate the experience (without taking the price in to account) as 4 1/2 stars, so if you can afford, then I'm sure you will enjoy.

I recently popped into the hollies for some lunch and a coffee with my wife for the first time after recommendations from a friend. I would like to mention the service, despite it being slightly slow and it was evidently very short staffed, however I was served by a lovely, very smiley young blonde girl. I felt that this particular waitress made up for the slow service and made our visit worthwhile. She was working extremely hard, constantly rushing around the cafe trying to please everyone and I feel this girl needed a nice review to boost her and let her know that her efforts did not go unnoticed by me. Fantastic waitress!!! I wish I had asked her name so she could be properly acknowledged! I will definitely be returning

I have been to the cafe on a few occasions and enjoyed coffee and cake, we had noticed the staff were not the best but not the worse, they just seemed a little inexperienced. We decided to visit again for coffee and cake one weekend in February, it was a little busy and no one greeted us when we arrived even though there was lots of staff around. We saw a table and decided to walk towards it, what I was not expecting was to be shouted at by a member of staff in a very rude and abrupt manor. I do not speak to anyone in this manor and found it totally unacceptable. At this point I turned and walked out. It's sad to say that I will not be back again which is unfortunate as the shop itself is very good, shame about the staff in the cafe.

My husband and Ivisited Hollies at Stretton yesterday February 14th, as it was Valentines day and we had few spare hrs decided on an impromptu lunch as a treat. (I have visited once before and although it was busy and service slow the food was good when it arrived) So I suggested a visit to my husband hoping last time was 'just a blip'After a sprint from car park to cafe due to rain and wind were happy to find a table quickly. It was busy but there were a few empty tables so wasn't exactly heaving. A waitress took our order - a beef wrap and a quiche with a coffee and glass wine. We sat chatting for while but after 20 mins our drinks still hadn't arrived, we sat on a completely empty table and quietly discussed trying to raise their attention. It is worth noting all this time there were quite a few waitresses milling around the counter area 'chatting' and whilst I'm not opposed to good working relationships this appeared rude as was nothing to do with customer requests or food/drink preparation - also worth noting the 'younger' waitresses appeared to be doing all running around and was 'more mature' waitresses who appeared uninterested. Our drinks finally arrived just as we were going to walk to counter to ask, we drank them fairly quickly then waited....and waited for food to arrive, in the end after 45 mins we were by then not really enjoying our Valentines lunch date as we were hungry...and angry - not once did anybody come over to explain or apologise for the delay and we sat all time with no drink or food. I also note 2 ladies on a nearby table having similar problems, and one of them ate her lunch whilst the other lady's was sent back twice after getting order wrong, on third try she decided not to have any, so her friend ate alone - rather quickly whilst other just had a drink - not a very nice lunch experience for them, they got up and left just before us and lady with no lunch said to me 'each time I've been here it's same' I wont be coming again! We decided to speak up firmly when a waitress passed to clear a table and think she could tell from my tone we weren't happy - Our food arrived 5 mins later and was presented well and tasty - we ate it fairly quickly and decided we weren't going to leave a 'tip' for such appalling service. We eat out regularly but don't experience such poor, uninterested staff and don't expect to wait for nearly one hour for a simple lunch with nobody acknowledging the wait or showing courtesy by coming to our table to quietly discuss it....the service is appaling!

Stopped here on the way back from arley hall as had noticed it on route. Amazing farm shop attached well worth a visit. The best bit though is the food in the cafe quite literally the best that I've had in a long time. Being a restaurateur myself I know how hard it is to please the public nowadays. Keep up this level of quality and you will not have any issues. Hats off to staff and kitchen brigade. Excellently named cafe as it is definitely the concept to set the bar.

I have visited the Hollies coffee shop at Stretton since the week it opened but no more. On the last three occasions the best that could be said about the breakfast was that it was mediocre. On the last visit some items were cold others had been pre cooked and re heated. We sent the meal back and to be honest what we got back was little better. Such a shame a good coffee if expensive coffee shop as gone so downhill, will not be going back.

on a visit today 19/10/13 we were served by an exceptional member of staff at this lovely cafe. It was a delight to be looked after by a slightly (not by much) more mature young lady but certainly not one of the young 16-22 year olds. She was very pleasant, charming polite caring, understanding, Not sure of what your name is but well done the Holies concept cafe should be honored to have you representing them , well done

First, the address of this cafe on Trip Advisor suggests it is in All Stretton, Shropshire but it is, in fact , in Lower Stretton, Warrington, Cheshire. It is part of a farm shop set unexpectedly in a small mildly commercial estate. We have visited The Hollies a number of times and are surprised by the unfortunate experiences of some contributors to Trip Advisor. We have had both breakfast and lunch there and have always been pleased with the food and by the treatment we have had. we agree that some of the prices are somewhat excessive for what you get - we found the Hake and Chips to be a small offering for £12.95 compared with the enormous plateful at The Highwayman near Kirkby Lonsdale. Nevertheless breakfast is a treat, served from an early hour and the Full English is lovely with treacle cured bacon and the rest! Our last visit for lunch was at their busiest time and we were given a bit of technology which summons us to the cafe when a table is free and giving time to browse around the farm shop for later purchases. The staff were without exception cheerful and efficient and we could see 2 young men preparing many lunches in the open kitchen which explained why we waited 25 minutes for mains but drinks and plenty to see kept us entertained. We have never found the place to be quiet but early doors on Sunday guarantee a seat of your choice and the younger Sunday staff seem to be well trained and sociable.

The Hollies is primarily known for its farm shop but the cafe/restaurant is well worth a visit. The food is of a consistently high standard, staff are very pleasant and attentive. I recently had breakfast there with my cousin for her birthday. We both had eggs Benedict, one with ham, the other with bacon, followed by two pots of tea (plus hot water). It was to die for! So yes, £19.50 for two breakfasts may seem a little steep but it was well worth it!

This is a somehow unsatisfying and slightly odd place: hugely popular with ladies who lunch and the Cheshire Set due to its being tagged on to the fashionable farm shop, but it is of an inconsistent standard to say the least. Some of the lunch items are fine, such as the pie of the day with very good gravy, but there are quite a few negatives to coming here: inattentive staff, extremely slow service, food way overpriced, and - worst of all - the most tasteless cake ever! My friend and I complained about it: dry, no chocolate taste whatsoever, and with the meanest smear of bland icing. Better off with one of those supermarket frozen varieties. For a farm shop cafe, you at least hope to enjoy a bit of something that is made with a generous hand and tastes home-made. (NB The cake they serve is the same brand they sell in the shop. It made me want to go home and bake a decent one myself: easy enough.)The shop is fine: pricey, but you can justify the mark-up on certain unusual and farm-produced items. They also sell jewellry: the surly female member of staff I asked to show me a necklace out if the cabinet was reluctant to do so and treated me with disdain - what's that about? Silly me bought it anyway. Ask one of the nice young men instead. Incidentally, expect some surliness from female staff at the sister location in Little Budworth. Is not smiling and grunting instead of saying thank you one of the conditions for landing a job at The Hollies?

If this place has a Michelin star then it should display the certificate. The food was lovely, nicely presented, generous portions and good quality.....however £8 for a sandwich is just extortionate !! In the farm shop you expect to pay slightly more for produce given it's home grown and home made but don't take the mickey out of your loyal customers by ripping them off in the cafe. That's just not fair. Great food, but not Michelin star so please price accordingly !!

We stopped by on a family day out and tried the restaurant.Have to say the food was very good but have to say to be paying almost 10 pounds each for a jacket potato or a sausage sandwich day light robbery. We really enjoyed our meal and it was well presented however cost unrealistic for what is essentially a posh cafe. The general impression of staff was that they were quite abrupt and not too helpful. The whole feel was that of a 6th form common room and they could do with some more direction and supervision in order to create a more professional feel.

As said above the food here is imaginative and flavourful however the some of the staff are the rudest I've ever come across, there's nearly always a wait or tables but there's nowhere to wait, potential customers are told to walk round the shop, no indication as to how long the wait is likely to be and are told to move as they are in he way, waiting by the door. I for one will not visit again.

I love this place. I've had lunch here before, but as I was staying overnight in Shrewsbury, I thought I'd treat myself to a breakfast here. The food was amazing. All locally sourced produce with a South American twist. The homemade brown sauce is well worth a try. I washed it all down with 2 cups of Americano, which was like the loveliest rocket fuel around. It's not the cheapest cooked breakfast I've ever had, but for around £20 certainly the tastiest and best quality, so a nice treat once in a while. The waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and clearly passionate about CSONS. My only complaint is there isn't a CSONS nearer where I live.
