Chinatown Restaurant in Aberdeen City

We booked here on a whim as we arrived in Aberdeen with nowhere booked for dinner. We were welcomed warmly and the staff were fantastic. We opted for a set banquet menu and the food was gorgeous, so fresh and flavourful along with very generous portions. We will be back.

Love the food here, always delicious and very generous portions, great service too. We went twice on our weekend break to Aberdeen and looking forward to next time!

I used to love this restaurant when lived in Aberdeen. But 15 years later-really disappointed-I could tell there is no pride or care serving customers there anymore. Beef tasted funny, and shredded duck was microwaved. Waiters were not very attentive. One was not very polite and patient when could not understand what we wanted to order. Definitely the worst restaurant now. Such a shame.

A quiet off-street restaurant, decent size and quiet at time of visit. A decent menu for both food and drink. We had dim sum to start, and a mix of mains with fried noodles. The food was the best Chinese I've had in a long time, and the service was excellent, with the staff engaging and bantering. Good value for money too. Heartily recommended.

Came here Friday evening around 18:00. The food was out of this world. The service was first class. The portions were huge. The prices were very reasonable. We will definitely come back again soon.

This really is the best Chinese restaurant in Aberdeen as the food is fantastic, always consistent and the service is really friendly and welcoming. Peter and Steve are great. It's been here for around 25 years and it's clear to see why once you eat here. There's a big choice for vegetarians on the menu too. Best in Aberdeen.

Ordered food on website: 45 min wait on a weekday... turn up starving 45 mins later to be told that the website does not work. 0 apologies and asked to give my order again... not really acceptable when customer has turned up starving! I was up in Aberdeen for a birthday treat and spent 3 nights there. I decided to go to China Town Restaurant on Saturday 19th March for my meal since I had been there several years ago and had a very nice meal. The Restaurant does not open until 5.30pm and I arrived there just before 6pm. I was asked if I had a table booked and I said no, I was on my own so a table for 1 was all I was looking for! I ended up being seated at the door which I was not happy about and told the waiter this because I felt it could be cold. Anyway after waiting for 15 minutes NOT A SOUL CAME NEAR ME. I was not asked if I wanted to order a drink just ZERO. So I got up and put my jacket on and said to myself YOU WILL NEVER SEE ME AGAIN!!! I walked out the door and not a person approached me!!! Taking account of the fact that they had only been open less than half an hour how could they have been so busy not to be able in the first instance to give me a decent table and then to leave me for 15 minutes without any communication is totally unforgivable in my books. I will never go back and on my experience most certainly do not recommend!!!

Took my son for his 21st birthday with several friends and had a round table which sat us all. Banquet ordered was too much food for us to eat, and the manager was very happy for us to take away our leftovers which the staff kindly boxed up. Food was fresh and delicious and staff very helpful and attentive. My 84 year old mum was given special attention which she lapped up. Would recommend.

Recently Visited China Town for the first time yesterday. Was really impressed with service we received from the moment we arrived until we left. Prawn crackers brought over free of charge once we ordered drinks. Food was amazing, we had Honey Chilli Chicken, Chicken Curry, Egg Fried Rice and Chips between 2 of us and it was more than enough! Drinks price were a bit pricey but food quality was first class. Would definitely recommend to family and friends and will return again next time we visit Aberdeen.

I tried here years ago and the food was awful. However, several years later upon a recent recommendation, I decided to order a takeaway via JustEat. It was a Friday night so I expected to wait a while, but it was delivered within 30 minutes to me. The food was excellent and although I think I received the wrong vegetarian main course, I didn't mind as it was really nice. They've got lots for veggies now compared to years ago. I had red roast tofu and finished the lot in one sitting, along with egg friend rice. Husband had prawns and he's Mr Fussy, but finished them too. The veggie spring rolls came with a really nice sauce, not sure what it was but it was lovely. I'll definitely order again from Chinatown.

This place is just fab,from the food and set up to the service and warmth was spot on. Wanted a good meal and decided to come here and wasnt dissapointed. What a feast and we will defo come back when on our travells up north again. Even our 10 yr old was raving about her meal,see you again in near future

I can highly reccomend this restaurant. We had no booking on a Saturday night but were swiftly seated. The service was amazing as was the food especially the satay. Staff were attentive but not intrusive and we had a wonderful meal in excellent surroundings. We enjoyed the whole experience.

Very good Chinese restaurant just off Union Street. Big internally, but sectional, so ideal to accommodate diners on any given night in a good atmosphere. Food was excellent, piping hot and served very promptly by friendly staff. Would definitely recommend.

Fui a comer con amigos, no había estado en un buen número de años, y no me decepcionó: buen servicio, buena comida y, como resultado, volveré pronto. Particularmente bueno en el banquete fueron las gambas, el pad thai fideos y las verduras. Normalmente no es una persona tipo pud, pero los postres eran muy buenos.

We had a great night and food fabulous as usual Family night out, loads of food. Starter platter, crispy noodles & beef satay, lovely.

This restaurant was booked several months ago so they were aware that we were a group of 15. When we arrived the restaurant was empty of other diners but as the evening went on it got quite busy, we went at just after 5pm when it opened. The waiter took our drinks order then came back to find out what we wanted to eat. 14 of the guests decided on the Banquet meals option 3(most expensive). One decided to order a Chicken Noodle soup and a Beef Curry. Not a complicated order by any means. As the evening went on the service became very slow and orders were getting missed.When the waiter came to ask about Deserts he took our orders but soon returned to inform us that a lot of the Deserts were unavailable, this then turned the whole evening into a disaster. Everyone had to ask for something else, some got their order and some didn't. The waiter was asked on 3 different occasions about 2 orders that did not arrive with the others, he left but when he came back he asked if we wanted more drinks. Eventually the waiter who served us when we first arrived came to the table and asked what the problem was, he then told the other waiter to fetch the Deserts. This service really spoils what was to be a really good send off for my husband. If we had booked last minute I could have forgiven the poor service but this was a planned event. Would certainly not recommend this Restaurant.

Me and my mum had å really nice 3 meal course with whine. The Waiter recommended the starter to share that was Nice,sins we could taste å little bit of everything,then we ordered two different main,so we could share. Chicken with cashew and biff with pepper. It was exelent. Highly recommended,and will deffenetly come back.

We arrived at the restaurant and no one was there even though the door was open and the "open" sign was displayed. We waited by the bar area in a completely deserted restaurant for five minutes and then a very rude waiter appeared and barked orders at us. "This way!" and "sit here!". No apology or welcome.

I’ve been a regular for many years and have always enjoyed the excellent food and the friendly staff. Steve the Restaurant Manager always goes out of his way to make you feel welcome.

One of my favourite Chinese restaurants-which I fear are a dying breed. Food is excellent. Staff ,particularly Steve the Manager,are helpful and the food is excellent. I had the Peking Duck followed by the shredded chilli beef -couldn’t have been better

Very dated restaurant inside which serves gloopy Chinese dishes. Waiting staff were pleasant enough but the food was pretty horrible and the menu uninspiring. Restaurant lacked and atmosphere whatsoever and looks like it hadn't been decorated in 30 years. Also the waiter mentioned they were unable to take card payment at the moment due to a WiFi issue but they'd had the time to make a sign and it looked to have been there a while? A tax avoidance scheme I think. You'd be better going to Burger King 50 yards down the road

15 of us were booked in for an Xmas meal (which was booked months in advance). The restaurant had set up 2 separate tables for us, which we were not happy about as we all wanted to sit at the same table and not be split up, so we decided to all squeeze onto the one table which actually worked out pretty well, so I'm not too sure why the restaurant hadn't done this in the first place. We were greeted by a very rude waiter who started barking orders at us telling us we must order right away from the set menus and when we asked if they had a vegan menu or any vegan options at all, the waiter just told us "No" and walked away, so our friend who is vegan ended up not having anything to eat. The majority of restaurants nowadays have vegan options so this was very surprising to us. We gave another waiter our drinks order and ended up having to wait 45 mins for the drinks to arrive! The food eventually arrived and I can't fault the food at all. However, when the bill arrived, we took one look at it and could tell straight away they had overcharged us.They tried to charge us for some bottles of wine we didn't have, they then overcharged us for the set menus (they included in our friend who was vegan who didn't eat anything and also 2 vegetarians who didn't eat from the set menu). We explained this to the rude waiter and he refused to let us make any changes to the bill. We then had to speak to another waiter who took some money off from the bill, but the bill was still way overpriced for the 15 of us and we thought it was only right that they deducted more money from the bill for the time we spent waiting for drinks/food and also the rudeness of some of the staff and how they catered more to another group in the room next to us (we arrived at the restaurant at 8pm and didn't leave until 12pm!). The manager then came up to us and started shouting at us telling us "You're f****** bullying my staff". This was the last straw, so we left them with more money than they deserved and left. This is the first and last time I will ever be at this restaurant. No wonder the staff are so rude, just take a look at their manager! Utter disgrace! If you can't handle the amount of group bookings at this time of year, then don't book them in!

I visited the restaurant on Saturday with friends for our Christmas party. We were greeted very abruptly and I asked about any vegan choices and was told no, then the waiter turned his back and walked away. I asked another waiter who seemed less stressed and he answered me that No they do not cater for vegans. So sadly I can't give a good review and write this only for the information of other customers. If you have any vegan in your party it would be best to go else where. I spent the evening with nothing to eat which was uncomfortable for the friends I was with. I do understand that it's the festive season and busy but I find it hard to believe that nothing could have been made for me.

Having read previous reviews I was a bit apprehensive however I was very pleasantly surprised food was delicious and the service was wonderful attentive staff without being overly intrusive Loved it would highly recommended

I ordered tofu in spicy yellow bean sauce from the vegetarian menu options so imagine my surprise to find small pieces of chicken in the sauce! When I highlighted this to the waiter he didn’t seem surprised. They offered to replace it but I felt ill which was made worse by the fact they tried to charge us for it. At my request they removed it from the bill, luckily this was a one-off trip to Aberdeen as I certainly won’t be visiting there again.

Our first time at this lovely restaurant, just after opening time as we had tickets for a show. So a bit quiet. Food and service excellent. We will be back, as Ernie says.

There were a few Chinese people eating in the restaurant and that is usually a good sign! Our food was authentic and tasty. One of the dishes was 'less than hot'. This was quickly rectified. Would go back.

Atmosphere is great, service was attentive, food was wonderful. I had the aromatic duck, and my wife had honey spice chicken. Both were fabulous. As an appetizer we ordered spring rolls, which came four to a serving.

After an exit from another restaurant in Aberdeen we decided to head to our standby - Chinatown. It usually is very good. We got seated at a very small table for two next to some fake ivy which my wife kept hitting. Ordered a set menu and this is where things started to go wrong. Shared starter....crispy wantons were cold, not crispy and pretty pathetic really; spring rolls were stodgy, cold and very tasteless. The sauce for the spare ribs was very runny and again pretty tasteless. Crispy duck was ok but then again there's not much you can do to make crispy duck bad. Main courses were Ok but not up to their previous standard. Rice and noodles were good. Overall the standard has dropped but it's still reasonable. Also wish the service was a bit less frantic. Oh and pretty sure there were cheap table cloths on there that last time we went...none now.

Good Chinese food. Crispy duck with pancakes really nice. Chinese chicken curry with egg fried rice was just what I needed. Staff in too much of a hurry to get you in, fed & out again. There’s a smell of damp about the place.

Thought we would enjoy a nice Sunday lunch on Mother’s Day. The restaurant was cold and dark. The food was not good. Beef was fatty and gristle. Menu did not describe the choices well. Had to return the beef dish as we could not eat it. The waiter was very good and brought us another dish and more rice. My first visit to this restaurant and I won’t be going back!

Being Fathers day my son took me to Chinatown restaurant on Dee Street for a tasty treat, I was amazed at the friendly welcome and the helpful staff in choosing the meal we started with mixed starters followed by Coconut Cream King Prawns and Blossom Duck accompanied with egg fried rice and fried noodles, the taste was delicious and cooked to perfection and well presented. a meal I would like to repeat again in the not to distant future.

Tried this last night as we couldn't be bothered cooking, what an experience!Tastefully decorated with a small seating area. Service was very efficient. We decided to go for a banquet and were surprised at the quantity of food for only two people. There were other people there but it didn't feel overcrowded.Staff were pleasant and provided a great service.We will certainly return again.

Since our old faithful Chinese takeaway has sadly closed town we thought we'd give Chinatown a try and we were not disappointed! We had shredded chicken strips, they were delicious. Szechuan spare ribs were the best I've had! Egg fried rice lovely too. Our only criticism would be the shredded chili beef was a little too sweet for our taste but still tasty all the same. Really good Chinese food, will definitely order again!

This was my first time at this restaurant and won't be my last. We had a room to ourselves as there was 18 adults and 9 children. The service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. We all enjoyed it . The starters were especially good.

Had a fantastic meal here with a group of friends. We went for set menu B which has fantastic choice at good value. No problem at all to swap one of the main dishes. Various starters to begin, followed by duck - too much that we couldn't finish it, then our main courses. Nothing to fault at all.

Chinatown is a very delicious restaurant specializing in Chinese food. Definitely go on a Sunday. The chef makes homemade noodles on Sunday and Monday. Dim Sum is delicious as is everything on the menu. Definitely a must when in Aberdeen. Right off Union Street....

Given the choice, and in Aberdeen there is plenty, I would not revisit. The food is tasteless and struggles to keep up with contemporary Chinese food.The place itself is totally dated and in bed of a revamp.... urgently.

Been looking for a decent Chinese restaurant for quite some time and finally found it! The food is very tasty, went for honey king prawns and was not dissapointed at all , also got really full as well only from the main course. Prices are quite low comparing to other restaurants. Very nice evening atmosphere... We will be coming back :)

Aberdeen's tackiest Chinese restaurant! Food took almost 2 hours to arrive on our table. Despite asking multiple times for our rancid food to be brought, we felt like we were begging. Rubbery chicken in the end, and beef very chewy. Won't be returning! Lesson learned! Book somewhere else on a Friday night in Aberdeen.

I have been here on a number of occasions and keep coming back because the quality and taste of the food here is fantastic.Tonight I had Battered King Prawn with Chillies to start and lemon chicken with fried rice to follow. As usual both dishes were very enjoyable. The desserts appear to be " bought in" but are still perfectly adequate. Service was excellent and I would consider the restaurant good value for money given it's prominent city centre location just off Union Street.Highly recommended and I will be sure to return. Went here on a Monday evening for dinner - place was empty just another couple of tables. Meal was standard Chinese, nothing special. Reasonably priced. Background music was loud and totally out of keeping. Service was ok. No desire to return.

Just back from living in Asia and took daughter for a birthday meal. The restaurant has a lovely bar area and really looks good inside. The service was very good. We had a banquet meal and were not disappointed. Food came out piping hot and well cooked and presented. Looks like an excellent place for business clients as well so would highly recommend.

Dined with a group of customers mid week. The place was almost empty with just one other table occupied. We ordered a mix of set menu and standard. The food and choice was excellent and the staff very attentive. Nothing as a downside here.

This restaurant has been a favourite place for my wife and I to eats for a lot of years. Danny and his staff are very helpful and will do their best to get you a table. The food is very good and helpings large. I will continue to be a regular there.

We ordered a banquet meal for two but an entire course was missed out and despite the staff knocking over a glass of wine which spilled onto the jacket of a customer at the next table, we were still charged the full amount.

Our usual chinese takeaway in Aberdeen is closed at the moment, so we took a dubious punt on this place after having not eaten here for 2/3 years. It did not disappoint! Delicious hot and fresh food which was reasonably priced. Only given 4* due to the fact that they don't deliver.

A very nice Chinese Meal.We had the banquet for two and it was very good with nicely sized portions for us so that it was possible to have all the courses without feeling huge by the end.The service was good, the staff polite, friendly and attentive and although the decor is a bit dated it does have a good atmosphere for dining.It is close to Union St. and the Dee street taxi rank so it is very convenient.We will definitely go back again - well worth a visit.
